A Solid Bagel Stop in Lewes I've eaten at Surf Bagel before, so on the way home from a recent business trip I decided to stop again and grab breakfast to go. I ordered a sesame bagel with egg, cheese, and scrapple, along with a hash brown. The bagel was nicely toasted and very fresh, which is really what you hope for when you're stopping at a place that specializes in bagels. The sandwich itself was simple but very satisfying. Nothing over the top or crazy fancy, just a well made breakfast sandwich that hit the spot. The service was friendly and quick, and the place itself has a unique feel to it. Inside they sell quite a bit of Surf Bagel merchandise, which gives it a fun local vibe beyond just being a bagel counter. I included a few photos because the shop has a cool look to it. I stopped in around 9 in the morning and it was still pretty busy, even during the off season. That tells me this place probably gets packed during the summer months. Ordered gf bagel toasted breakfast sandwich. Bagel was still frozen and soggy. Unedible. Also, I feel like all their stuff just taste like seed oils like when you get the bacon or egg it's just smothered in oil. This location also needs to be remediated and renovated. read more

UPDATE: Surf Bagel reached out to discuss my complaint and they resolved the issue! i just purchased a breakfast sandwich at the lewes location (double egg and meat), drove home without checking and this is what I received. Seriously?!? if the restaurant is going to upcharge for the extras then the customer should receive what they paid for. Not the first time quality control seems to be an issue. Not your NewYork or Brooklyn bagel. It seems that every bagel tastes the same no matter what you choose. But, Surf has the monopoly on location and when you need a good fix, it's a decent place. Frankly, Duncan doughnut has a better everything bagel. For your own experiment, Acme, Giant and Weis have independent bakers making bagels which are less expensive and better tasting. read more

This is a great option for very good bagels near the Five Points intersection in Lewes! My wife and I shared the nova lox and cream cheese bagel (plain). One son had the breakfast burrito, and the other son had a steak and egg bagel (plain). Everyone was pleased with the bagels which had a nice texture overall. Parking can be a bit crazy on Sunday mornings when it's super-busy, so be sure to pack your patience. Love coming to Surf Bagel anytime we are in town. They have the best bagels and burritos! I usually get the bacon egg and cheese bagel, lox and cream cheese with capers or the beach burrito. The beach burrito has avocado, spinach, egg and cheese. It's a big portion. Sometimes I can save half a bagel for another meal. The kids like the chocolate chip bagel. I love Surf Bagel, it's the closest I've come to a bagel since back home. Coffee is always good! I usually get and everything bagel with vegetable cream cheese, very good. My husband and I stopped in to get bagel breakfast sandwiches and coffee on a cold rainy morning and we enjoyed our meal. The bagels were freshly made and our sandwiches were made to order. I had a sausage, egg and cheese on Egg bagel which was hearty and satisfying. We enjoyed our breakfast at one of the booths inside Surf Bagel and we were plenty entertained watching patrons come and go. Most people dashed in to pick up their call ahead orders and others placed an order to go. In addition to bagels, Surf Bagels also offers breakfast burritos, deli sandwiches and smoothies. For a bagel shop and deli, the menu has quite a bit of variety. I look forward to trying more items on my next visit. read more

Stopped in here with my family for a weekend bagel breakfast during the off-season (early November). There was no line but still a plethora of offerings -- bagels, bagel sandwiches, freshly squeezed juices, and other baked goods. It was hard to decide between a sweet or savory bagel, as well as what type of coffee to order (because there were so many options). The bagels we ordered were fresh with the perfect chew. The cream cheese to bagel ratio was spot on. We noticed a bunch of adorable merchandise available for purchase and ample room for seating both indoors and outdoors. First off...if you are looking for your typical NY bagel deli...this is not it. That is why NY is NY and Delaware is Delaware. It's a different culture and environment. If you are expecting a NY deli, it's not Surf's fault. It's yours. You have to accept where you are. You won't find a NY steakhouse in Delaware, either. That said, the bagels here are extremely good and their food is excellent. I do wish they offered omelettes, however. What really makes Surf five stars for me is the staff. They are all incredible--friendly, engaging, welcoming and will always do whatever necessary to make customers happy. You can't (and shouldn't) expect any more from a bagel shop.
