A lowkey gem in Milford with good food and a great location. Breakfast (served all day by the way!) was very good and filling. The caramel macchiato was amazing and had a "fall candle" type of flavor to it which I loved. Service was prompt and attentive. Great location along a meandering river that winds its way through Milford on its way to the Delaware River. In nice weather the outdoor covered deck would be an ideal place to enjoy a leisurely breakfast or lunch. On a rainy day like we had, eating indoors was the only practical option. The choices are fairly traditional egg, pancake and waffle plates in the morning, with their "American Breakfast," the most popular and filling. My son went for that and he couldn't finish the two eggs, meat, home fries and waffle that were brought to him on multiple dishes. He was totally sated. I went with one of their DIY 3 egg omelets (scrapple, cheddar, onion, pepper with the hash browns thrown in), and rye toast. It was quite the load, and beyond my capacity to consume completely. It needed a little kick in the pants, so several shakes of Texas Pete's hot sauce was applied. Filling for sure, but still not all that tasty, and I remembered why scrapple is not a favorite of mine-just a little textural and slightly off flavor that I had forgotten in the long interregnum between samplings. Ironic that we had three table side visits from staff inquiring about our satisfaction, yet they never offered to refill our coffee mugs. How does that happen? So, although the house was warm, clean and friendly, the display of form over function was noticed and not designed to bring us back for another visit. 3.5 Stars read more

On a recent trip to Maryland and Delaware, we knew we would be driving through Milford early in the morning, so we checked out Yelp to see if there was a good place to grab breakfast. We saw River Lights Cafe and decided it would be a good start to the little drive we had that day. We really enjoyed our quick stop here. The service was good, and very quick, and the breakfast we great! I personally had the Huevos Rancheros which was wonderful! My wife had a breakfast sandwich that she really enjoyed as well. Definitely worth a stop for breakfast, and I think ti would be an ever better spot when it is a bit warmer outside as they have a very nice little outdoor seating area right by the river. Unfortunately, I paid over $14 for a bacon egg and cheese sandwich with extra bacon. I was told the extra bacon made it significanly more. We drove from about an hour away to pick up some items from a Marketplace deal and asked the local seller for a lunch spot suggestion. The highest praise, of several suggestions, was for River Lights Cafe. "The food is good, and the people are very nice." We are so grateful for his suggestion as this was a spectacular find. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming; if the weather had been nicer, we might have sat outside, but with a window seat, we were very happy. The tacos are as authentic as any we've had, and my Cuban panini, although not fully authentic as experienced with my South Florida roots, was delicious, with roast pork, ham, swiss cheese, pickles and mustard (I think they sneak a little mayo in there too, and I'm okay with that!). Bonus, the side of pasta salad was outstanding. We didn't sample, but the baked goods looked awesome as well. The service was also excellent, with Jessica guiding us well and making us feel special, as did all the staff. We've already decided on an hour drive for breakfast (that is supposed to be equally brilliant if not moreso) very soon! A gem that Milford should be proud of! read more

Drive by often and never stopped. Cute location on the water. Inside dining is small but works. We both had paninis. Loved my chicken one and it came with tangy pasta salad and chips. The only thing was the ice tea was bottled. Server was nice but don't recall being checked on. read more

This place was open today Saturday although the hours on Yelp don't indicate that. We were passing through and spotted this place. It is a lovely setting and there was a cool breeze this morning by the river. Super great and friendly service. My breakfast of eggs, home fries, turkey bacon and toast was yummmm! I wouldn't recommend the waffles as they use pancake batter which makes it heavier and more dense than the Belgian style waffle we prefer. Highly recommended. read more

This is it. Owner was there and the staff was superb. I like the vibe of this place - not a "fast food" place but not a "diner", either. Very clean and reasonably priced considering the portions you get. We came here twice and my buddy's daughter raved about the pancakes. She's 5 and hard to please, so that must mean something! We came here for breakfast twice - the second time seemed a bit off (different chef) but otherwise was good. They also have lunch food as well, although we weren't in town during that time. Not impressed with lunch. Perhaps breakfast is their strong suit? We came late, only one other 2-top occupied in this small dining room (seats just over 20 at 10 tables). There was debate between the server seating us and the manager (not in English, but I understand Spanish) about whether we could sit at the 3-top next to the window because "it's supposed to be for 3 people." We sat down anyway. We ordered a cheeseburger, chicken quesadilla, and a chicken taco. The fries served with were excellent. The burger was large and good. The other food was bland (nothing served to accompany the taco of chicken, lettuce and tomato with a slice of lime, or with the quesadilla--no salsa, no sour cream, nada). read more

I had an enjoyable breakfast at the river lights cafe. The wait staff was excellent. It's a cute little cafe along a quiet river. I had the American breakfast comprised of two poached eggs, English muffin, waffle, hoe fry potatoes, sausage and ham. The poached eggs were perfect. The sausage was also delicious. The ham was sliced sandwich thin. The potatoes were too salty for my taste, but if you salt, or add salt to your food before tasting it you won't be disappointed. The waffle was too cakey for my taste. I washed it down with some hot tea with honey. I'm not going to write this place off quite yet as the staff and location are awesome. We wanted to sit on the patio but it was raining and the patio was wet. Our server pushed tables together by the window so we could still enjoy the beautiful river view from inside. The staff is wonderful and very accommodating. We all enjoyed our food. I got the huevos rancherous. It was delicious. Perfectly cooked poached eggs, warm, house made tortillas, tasty beans and a really good sauce made my breakfast special. River Lights has crepes too, but we didn't try them. If you are looking for a friendly restaurant with delicious food and a killer view, River Lights is a must try. read more

My husband, baby, and I stopped in here for the first time to grab some brunch today. It is a small establishment, but very cute and cozy! We tried a variety of items and everything was delicious! I got the heuvos rancheros and they were incredible; the corn tortillas were specifically noteworthy as they were fresh, warm, and amazing, though the entire dish really hit the spot. Upon our arrival, we were seated promptly and quickly greeted by the owner who welcomed us in as she hadn't seen us there before. The services was timely and courteous, couldn't ask for more really. This place has a lot of things going for it. Breakfast all day. Pleasant, if not slightly inattentive, servers. Generous portions of good food. The agua fresca served was especially delicious and not something I'd guess a cafe in Milford, DE would offer. Plus, a gorgeous view of the river. If only they had brewed tea that day. When I lived in Delaware, this was one of my favorite places to eat. It overlooks the lake, and you get to enjoy your peaceful surrounds with their outside seating. The food was always good. My favorite was their breakfast menu. The service was great, and the owners were nice. It is a bit in the pricier side. read more

Went in for take out breakfast. Took a long time to order, even though I was the only one trying to order. A waitress was doing some sort of register report and they ignored me. Finally took my order and I paid. The cooks were doing a great job. The other staff all stood around asking questions of each other like it was their first day open. Managers were rude. One asked if I was ready to order. I told him I had already ordered and believed my order was up. He told me to go sit down "over there" and someone would bring it to me. They did--10 minutes later. Nobody working there wore masks. In fact I was the only one in the building with a mask. Staff wore gloves...the same gloves to handle food, money, clean tables. I think they believe the purpose of wearing gloves is so they won't have to wash their hands so often. In short... Service is poor, prices our outrageous (see photo below of a $10.50 breakfast), food is mediocre, and they just don't seem to care. Go somewhere else. read more

A small restaurant with a great view and wonderful food. Ordered huevos rancheros and a Cuban panini. Both were fresh and delicious. The eggs, chorizo, refined beans, tortillas and even salsa verde were very fresh and tasty. The Cuban had nice ham and cheese on a fresh roll that was nicely pressed and seared.
