Thank God for outdoor dining! I know I know, this pandemic has been hard, especially being unable to do normal things such as dining out. Suprema is the first restaurant I decided to try since the governor allowed outdoor dining, and boy was I blown away. The staff was warm, friendly, and attentive from start to finish! Prior to the appetizer we had bread brought to us by our waitress, and it was warm & fresh. For an appetizer we ordered the shrimp & calamari and it was hands down one of the best seafood apps I've ever had. Not only was the seafood fresh, but it was perfectly breaded, cooked, and flavorful. I had the Rigatoni in vodka sauce with added chicken cutlet and my company had the chicken parm with spaghetti. Both pastas were well cooked (Not under or over, just right) and the sauces were well balanced. To put it into perspective, not one rigatoni was left on my plate. It was absolutely delicious. For those not local to the area, the restaurant is BYOB, as Rutherford is a "dry town." I ended my meal with a cappuccino, which was excellent as well. I thought the crystalized sugar stick was an amazing functional and esthetic touch. I will certainly be returning back. We did have reservations (even though they wrote down the wrong time) and they sat us immediately. The decor in the restaurant is very nice and totally with the times. Their outdoor seating was amazing. It was so beautiful I assumed that everything else about the place would be perfect too. That was superficial of me. I sat down and ordered an americano. When I started to learn more about the place I realized we weren't going to be a fit, short term or long term. We just didn't see eye to eye on some big things. They didn't have any breakfast options and it was 10:30am. They opened at 10, so I just assumed they were going to have breakfast options, who's eating lunch at 10am? This place could be ideal for people eating breakfast at 5 in the morning and then looking for a nice lunch spot at 10am. I'm not one of those people. I don't think there are many of those people. I was the only customer at Suprema. I saw one other guy walk in when I was sitting outside, it was the mailman. I ended up having my americano here, while I researched other places. Best Vodka Chicken Parm I've ever eaten! The place is so nice, first of all. It was decked out for Christmas with a huge tree and beautiful lights and decor. I told the girl behind the counter, who was incredibly nice and helpful, that it was my first time there and that I was undecided. I mentioned I'd been given recommendations for the chicken parm, vodka parm, and eggplant parm. She said they're all great but that the vodka parm is probably the most popular of the three. So glad I made that choice. Imagine a classic chicken parm, on fresh soft (but not too soft) bread, great melted mozzarella, and rich vodka sauce. Plus extra vodka sauce on the side. Every bite was better and better. The only knock is the price. Granted it's more restaurant/cafe than it is a deli, but $15+ felt a little steep. Well worth it though. Quality has slipped the past few months as salads are smaller and go light on the toppings while they were much better only a few months ago.The food was decent and a little expensive at $13 for a small sandwich but now $17 for a small sandwich, is very overpriced. I had lunch with my coworkers and we were admiring the decor, the space, the attention to detail, and of course our food. I had the Puglia sandwich ($11): grilled sweet italian sausage, sauteed broccoli rabe, melted mozzarella and carmelized onions with a touch of chili flakes and extra virgin olive oil. The Milano ($11): bell and evans breaded chicken cutlet, homemade mozzarella, arugula, fresh tomato with a balsamic vinaigrette was delicious! I tried the rice balls, which were great. I can't express how much I love Supremas food. The restaurant itself is a little deceiving. You walk in and it almost feels like a fancy deli...do not make this turn you around. Sit down and eat. Trust me. The menu is small and they usually have a few specials. For the apps, start with the rice balls. Your welcome, for recommending the most amazing rice ball you will ever have. I am also a huge fan of the calamari, which I rarely say but the calamari also comes with shrimp. For the entrees...my husband is Italian and we usually judge an Italian restaurant by its chicken parm. We RARELY get anything else from here besides the chicken parm because it is THAT good. My little tip...chicken parm comes over pasta. Get the pasta on the side and ask for it with pesto. Out of this world. For the desserts, I'm not a dessert person typically...but they display the cakes and while you are eating dinner you are just trying to convince yourself that you shouldn't have dessert but they look so good that you need to! I had the coconut cake last week and it was amazing. Now for the ambiance...the small restaurant allows you to feel part of the family. The owner walks around and takes orders, delivers food, whole 9 yards. You would never think he was the owner because of how involved he is. There are very few tables so make sure you call for a reservation. It's very rare that I highly recommend an Italian restaurant, but you will love this place. I think I either dine in for lunch or order delivery from here through DoorDash once a week, which is saying a lot because I'm pretty picky about my sandwiches. The bread that they use and the quality of their ingredients, along with getting the right ratio and proportion for their sandwiches really reeled me in for more. They definitely never skimp out on their ingredients. So far, I've tried the Toscana (which has become my older sister's favorite), the Sicilia, the Napoli, and the Puglia. My favorite is the Milano sandwich, where the chicken cutlet is fried and hammered down to bite-sized perfection. The mozzarella is always so soft, fresh, flavorful, and delicious. My husband usually orders the salads and after stealing a couple of bites here and there, I think that they're fantastic. Personally, I'll always pick their hearty sandwiches over their salads because I never eat salads (haha). We have yet to try their rice balls or pastas, but have been dying to. Service is consistently fairly quick and every single worker I've encountered has been incredibly friendly, super genuine and down-to-earth. The decor is very rustic and the whole restaurant/deli style space is always spotless and clean. It's a very refreshing and bright atmosphere that surprises you; from the outside, you can't really tell because it's in such a cluttered area. The portions became smaller and the prices became bigger (yes I know that restaurants have raised their prices). We needed gluten free options so started off with potato skins. One small potato cut in half - each half topped with cheese and bacon, $13 for one potato. One dinner was salmon. Small piece to say the least. Barely any spinach and mashed potato. Plate was pretty empty. The sole was a palm sized piece with, again, barely any spinach. Most of this sole dish was loaded with buttery, soupy potatoes on the bottom that I didn't touch. Went here for an early lunch and got there right around opening time. I went with my girlfriend and as we walked in we were immediately greeted and seated. We got to choose wherever we wanted since no one was there so we sat in the booth table. The white balsamic dressing was delicious when combined with the strong taste of the littered Gorgonzola pieces. The apple chunks and pecans helped too making the whole dish feel so fresh.
