Came here for mother's day this year and was happy to see there was more spacing between tables for a 7pm reservation. Staff always remembers us and greets us warmly. Started with asparagus salad, which is my absolute fave, and clams oreganata. Ordered tilapia francese with shrimp served with veggies and their awesome red potatoes on the side, fettuccine bolognese, pasta di giorno (fresh pappardelle, shrimp, scallops, asparagus, shiitake mushrooms, tomato, with vodka sauce), and pasta Gelone (rotini, chicken chunks, shiitakes, and vodka sauce). Holiday menu today, but still plenty of options- more than most places offer. Finished with a limoncello cake slice, warmed brownie with vanilla ice cream, cappuccinos, and an espresso. Portions were huge and could easily feed 2 people per dish and came out and remained piping hot! It's BYOB, but if you forget, the Liquor Shed is right up the street. If they ever have tripe on their specials for the night, absolutely go for it and I saw others ordering osso bucco and the meat was enormous! The mussels are always a great option as well! TLDR: a great Italian spot located in Lyndhurst serving affordable and fresh food. Highly recommend coming here for dinners, dates, events, etc. Came here on a Sunday night around 7 and it was busy. You could tell that this is THE spot for all the OG residents and you can tell that they are loyal to this place. I can see why as I was pleasantly surprised as to the quality of the food. The restaurant is very simple. It doesn't overwhelm you with too many decorations and really helps show how long it has been around. Not saying it dingy but saying that it shows its tenure in Lyndhurst (in a good way) Caesar salad: one order is big enough for two people. Salad is crisp, croutons are perfectly sized and dressing is light. You do not feel extremely thirsty or overwhelmed from the cheese here. 5/5 Calamari: although not crispy like other places (which is the way I like it) it was still very good. The calamari was fresh and not overly battered and it was a very generous portion. If you like your calamari extremely crispy, you will not like this place. If you like your calamari with a little batter, you will love this place: 4/5 Penne vodka: not to toot my own horn but I don't think their vodka sauce is as good as mine.... BUT still one of the better sauces I've had out at a restaurant. Once again, generous portions and fresh. 4/5 Filet mignon and shrimp (ordered medium rare): the filet mignon was extremely soft and tender. It came in an amazing gravy with a side of vegetables doused with a generous portion of garlic. I devoured everything, even the gravy and wished I had more. 5/5 Tiramisu: their tiramisu is on the sweeter side and you don't taste much coffee. If that's the way you like it, you will love it. I came here on a Tuesday afternoon for a repast get together. This place had a nice setup. It was a BYOB, so we brought plenty of alcohol for the group. The staff were very friendly, helping serve the wines and beers. We started off with penne with vodka sauce. This was delicious. One of my favorite meals to order out is penne with vodka sauce. And this dish did not disappoint. Next up, was a side salad. This salad was flavorful and hit the spot. Always nice to eat some mixed greens between meals. For the main meals, we tried the salmon and the chicken francese. Both of these dishes were very good. I enjoyed the chicken more between the two. The lemon sauce was just right. Great for parties, plenty of parking, and outstanding staff who know the menu and offer recommendations upon request. We shared two appetizers, both off the specials menu. One was a salad that was quite possibly one of the best we've ever tried, with shrimp, avocado, asparagus, and beans in a lemon dressing that was amazing. Chris, the owner was so nice and accommodating from start to finish and Ceasar provided beyond excellent service! The private room as well as the bathrooms were spotless. We chose Gelone for our son's First Communion celebration dinner. They are a BYOB establishment with a nice, large parking lot right next door. We had reservations and our table was ready to go when we got there. Service was absolutely impeccable. To start off with, we got a few orders of fried calamari, a burrata, brushetta and Cesar salad. Appetizers were excellent. Calamari was fresh; not that annoying, chewy variation. Burrata was nice and creamy inside but not too sloppy if that makes sense. There were quite a few of us, so I'll stick to my dinner. I got the the red snapper over broccoli rabe. The snapper was out of this world and I'm a massive fan of broccoli rabe, so it was a massive home run for me. For dessert, I got the Tiramisu and a cappuccino. Price was extremely affordable. Had a fantastic experience here celebrating my grandmother for her birthday. She's a regular here and they treat her like royalty, so service is pretty spot on. The early bird special from 4-6 is a great deal for $30, the choices are vast and include an appetizer, entree and dessert. The stuffed mushrooms were the best I've ever had and I am VERY picky with my vodka sauce but they nailed it here. The calamari is also solid as well as their marinara. I had the chicken Marsala and while the sauce was lacking flavor the chicken itself was cooked perfectly and the vegetables were seasoned and not served rock hard like some restaurants tend to do. my family has been coming here for years and yesterday, Easter Sunday is why. we had the best of everything, from appetizers to dessert, everything was spot on. we had reservations for the 6:00 seating, and this was after the staff had a very busy afternoon. youd think maybe you might get less attention or youd feel that at this point they were exhausted from the day, NOT A CHANCE. ! i work in the food industry myself, so I understand how taxing a holiday can be. I believe the universe works in mysterious ways. We drove into town looking for a good dinner before hitting NYC in the morning. After calling 5+ places that were packed with 2 hour long waits, I had almost lost hope of having a nice dinner out. Then we called Gelone and we're ecstatic that they had a table open! And truthfully I don't know how they did because this was by far one of the best Italian restaurants I have ever dined in! Starting off with the burrata (my all time favorite appetizer that I get anywhere I can), I loved how light the balsamic was. It complimented the cheese without overpowering it. I could have had more honey with it, but that's just a personal preference. Next we ordered our entrees. I got the Farfalle sicilliane, which my god this plate was obscenely enormous in the best of ways. I gorged myself on it and it looked like i had eaten practically nothing. Many restaurants skimp on the ricotta with pasta dishes, but the ricotta to pasta ratio here was absolutely spot on. Ricotta was well within every bite! My partner ordered the pollo alla chris, and while I loved my entree, his was truly on another level. Absolutely god tier food. The chicken was so easy to cut through that you didn't even need a knife, and each bite was so full of flavor from the mozzarella and vodka sauce. This was such a phenomenal dish, I couldn't help but steal many bites! On top of this, fantastic wait staff who were very attentive. Came here on a Friday night and we had a great time! The service was superb. Eddie and I believe Salvatore were our waiters and they both were so amazing and friendly. They made you feel comfortable and happy. We got the caprese appetizer which was quite tasty and fresh. It came with peppers. I got the scuglio seafood entree. It had a nice variety of mussels, clams, shrimp, and i asked for whole wheat pasta which they were able to give to me. I ate it all, besides some of the pasta. For dessert, we got the tiramisu (THEE BEST EVER). It is a must have! I dont care how full you are- its sooooo good. This place is BYOB so we were able to have some wine and beer with our meal. I haven't been to Gelone in years. In fact, the last time I was there I probably had enough hair spray in my hair to cover all of Bergen County. I had the opportunity to visit Gelone for a work dinner the other day and I was thankful for it. We started with salads instead of hot appetizers. Some of my fellow diners chose the green bean salad, which was a hit. Myself and a few others opted for the avocado salad (one of the specials of the night). It was one of the best salads I've ever had...avocado, chopped asparagus, shrimp, tomato, and mozz tossed in a light lemon-infused dressing. Portions were large...almost entrée-size. Our entrées were amazing as well. I ordered the chicken with mixed mushrooms in a port wine sauce. It was accompanied by potatoes, green beans, and carrots. My biggest complaint with restaurants are the vegetable "sides". They tend to look pathetic and not worthy of consumption. The vegetables at Gelone? Amazing. They took great care in preparing them instead of just throwing them together and throwing them on the plate. The carrots had a delicious, sweet glaze that was simply phenomenal. The entrees among my fellow diners ranged from salmon to pasta to escarole and beans. Everyone was pleased with their choices and almost all of us had leftovers for lunch the next day. Right on! We ordered a piece of chocolate cake for the table, but unfortunately it was dry and it tasted as if it was in the fridge for several days. Tsk-tsk. One of my fellow diners accidentally spilled her entire glass of red wine on the cake. Believe me, it was a blessing in disguise. The servers were attentive without hovering. It was the middle of the week so it wasn't too busy. We closed the place down at 10:00 PM (why do I feel like I am always the last one to leave???) Fake Advertising on their menu and very rude owner. They claim to have a fixed menu on their website that can be ordered from 4:00-6:00pm. No where does it say you can not order certain things listed to go. Earlier this week when I called to place my order... I was able to what ever I wanted from the menu... then I call again and the owner says the manager made a mistake and sold it to you. He states that I was lucky. How was I was lucky when I'm only reading what their menu says and placing an order. Then he goes on to say that they will not sell me what it states on their website... because they will loose money. And they can not change their website because all that cost money. So they rather have misleading info for their customers. They will not sell you the following choices taken straight from their menu. - the mussels with tomato sauce, garlic and basil - old-fashioned style pasta and bean soup - bruschetta - escarole and bean Soup - eggplant rollatine So rude... not nice! And to top it off.... I have been a customer for over 22 years as their food is amazing. The problem wasn't the food... it's the owner and his customer service over the phone! What a great place I have been meaning to write a review for a long time.. it's a BYOB so remember to bring your wine. I celebrated one of my birthdays there and we had a great time. We even brought our own dessert and they were very accommodating. We were there for a couple hours. We did not feel rushed. Everything was delicious and fresh. The waiters really know how to make you feel welcome. The decor is nice. Everybody comes with their meal I will be back. When my parents were here, they had a decent meal with us. The food at Gelone's is always phenomenal. Every single time. The stuffed mushrooms, you have to get them, whatever variation is the special, not to be missed.
