Scalding-hot cappuccino and a digestif of amaretto... the only decent part of the night.
    Thomas A.

My parents adored this place decades ago but when I was a little runt I was more impressed with their wine-bottles-as-candle-holders-on-every-table than the actual food. (Nowadays those little works of art are lining the walls and not each table.) Cut to more modern times and this is the second time I brought my own family here now. (The first visit was a major disappointment... note to self: don't bother with their linguine with clam sauce ever again.) Welp. I stuck with seafood once again and... it was another swing and a miss. I went with what I assume is their 'signature dish' - "Scampi, Angelo" (how odd of a name, right?) - which consists of six shrimp, three slices of lemon, in a breadcrumb-olive oil sauce (think Clams Oreganata). Over $20 for just that. The Mrs. went with their flounder-and-cherry-tomatoes. It's just that at almost $30. One kid went with their steak (just shy of $40) that not only was it incorrectly cooked (the waiter knew and took it back to give it a blast in the broiler) but way too much fat. (That came with a basic salad and some steak fries on the side.) Another kid went with their sausage-and-steak-fries dish. He was probably the only one to kinda-sorta enjoy his meal. (Oddly this was the biggest portion of food and the cheapest, clocking in at under $20.) Our waiter and the staff were like helicopter parents that never seemed to leave but they were incredibly sweet and (too) attentive. By far the most expensive restaurant in town and a huge letdown after getting that check and wondering, "For... that?!" I'm thrilled that Angelo's has been going strong since Marco Polo first met Kublai Khan and hope it's still doing it's old-school-Sunday-gravy far into the future when we've colonized Mars but... me and the rest of the family said that was our last time visiting.

We went expecting an old-school italian restaurant and that is just what Angelo's is. Everything was perfect. The service, the atmosphere, the food, and the wine. Everything on the menu is an italian classic-no bells or whistles- but it was all delicious. My table got a lot to share so we were able to taste a lot of the menu, and nobody was dissappointed with a single item. It is hard to find a good meatball at a restaurant, but Angelos' were perfect. And the calamari we had may have been the best. The Scampi D'Angelo was the only item on the menu that included the restaurant's name and it lived up to the title. It comes in a sizzling boat of buttery breadcrumbs that are almost addicting. It's only been a day since our visit and Inalready want to go back! Definitely worth the trip.

Personally, this is the best of the best. I have been coming here for over 25 years. The best meatballs you will ever have in a restaurant. You CANNOT beat the Veal Milanese sautéed peppers and onions. The service is excellent, and the ambiance is wonderful. From start to finish, you will be extremely satisfied with this timeless classic in Lyndhurst.

Don't drive by! Old school in all the best ways: classic decor, Sinatra for ambiance, solid bar, delicious Italian cuisine from the bread to salad to pasta and meatballs, and I'm a meatball snob!! I can't wait to return to Angelo's. Next time I'll add dessert!

Angelo's first and foremost is the best Italian restaurant in northern New Jersey and the red sauce is great.

Where is there a menu online that is readable me? Facebook shows a blank page.

Thanks, Dona. We recently found out that Facebook has hidden our menu page due to one of its random design changes. But we added it back as a post and pinned it to the top of the posts. Also, this link should take you directly to the post that shows…

Is there a parking? Lot? Valet?

We have our own parking lot directly behind the restaurant and additional parking on Friday evenings, and Saturdays and Sundays in the large parking lot at the other end of our block.

    Is this casual or dressy?

To start: there's a small parking lot in the back but otherwise appears to be street parking. Both of our cars found spots in the lot since we got there a touch before 5pm. When we got in there, there was only 1 table of two people occupied but we were asked if we had a reservation which we didn't have. Admittedly, it was a bit of a last minute decision to go out so it completely slipped my mind to look to see if I would be able to reserve something but it was before 5pm so I'm surprised we were met with such resistance. Luckily, they were able to take us with warning we would need to be out by 6:45. For reference we left at 6 since we only got entrees. The place itself is somewhat small and has a little covered patio which saw had some tables. It's no frills and the menu wasn't all that extensive. I swear there is more of a menu on their Slice app for takeout ordering. Bread was placed on the table as well as a water pitcher. To be honest, I didn't think the bread had much flavor and my husband and parents agreed. We were pretty hungry so we did finish it (even when bread isn't great, it's still good in my book) but we weren't offered any more than the first basket. All of our entrees came with salad which were typical pizzeria salads-not bad, not amazing. My mom and I both ordered the Chicken Avellino (chicken breast sautéed with chopped red onion, red peppers, sliced hot cherry peppers, shitake mushrooms in a white wine sauce with a touch of plum tomatoes) which came with roasted potatoes. I'm not the biggest fan of spicy but I thought I could just take off the sliced hot cherry peppers and be okay. Wow was I wrong because the entire dish had a kick to it. Even my mom who gravitates towards spicy food admitted it was hot. That said, the quality of the chicken was phenomenal. It was thin sliced and very good. My husband very much enjoyed his Scaloppini Marsala and my dad liked the Pollo Francese but did wish the sauce was a touch thicker. I will say I think the quality of the food served is very good but the portions are not plentiful. I'm guilty of always taking home and making another meal or two out of what I get out somewhere but all 4 of us cleared our plates. At a $30 price point I just wish there were larger portions.

We started off with the fried calamari, caprese, burrata and the brushetta. The caprese was refreshing. Mozzarella and tomatoes were fresh. Roasted peppers on top were the perfect size. The calamari was a little chewy to me, the burrata could've been creamier and the variation of the brushetta wasn't my style. I like mine with just tomatoes, garlic, and basil. There was just a little unnecessary extra to it. For dinner, I got the chicken parm. It was EXCELLENT. Didn't even need a knife. You could cut it with your fork. Sauce was very good and the cheese was excellent quality. For dessert, I went with the ricotta cheesecake. Desserts were homemade. Cheesecake was creamy with ricotta mixed into the cake. Appetizers fell short in my opinion, but the main course and dessert brought the meal back strong.

Came here for mother's day this year and was happy to see there was more spacing between tables for a 7pm reservation. Staff always remembers us and greets us warmly. Holiday menu today, but still plenty of options- more than most places offer. Finished with a limoncello cake slice, warmed brownie with vanilla ice cream, cappuccinos, and an espresso.
