Omg !! What happened? Celebrities used to visit this restaurant? So sad !! I've been around for a while but havent visited this restaurant for 10 yrs. I paid a visit today... what happened to the truly unique speciality quisine of this restaurant. I ordered take out , tasted like spageetios from from childhood, yuk ! Horrible ! Sorry new owners you disgrace the true detectable italien cooking that used to be here. WHAT A SHAME! An update from a year ago. Dollar for dollar, this place is great. Came with a party of 7 last weekend. We opted for the outdoor dining. Everyone raved. Portions are huge, and the specials (we all had a various special) were delicious. The eggplant appetizer was also huge and lights out. The service is friendly and attentive. Outdoor ambiance isn't the best, but given the location right on a street, that's to be expected. Not one of us had a problem with it. They definitely should be on your places to check out. read more

We've taken out and ate in.....the food is very good but the Palermo pie is awesome! It's a different kind of pie...it's a square/thin crust pie....the sauce is so good....haven't tried a regular pie because we just love the Palermo pie. It's worth a try.....it reminds me of how my Italian aunt made her pie. read more

I'm afraid after Saturday night we will not be back. I think when they first opened they were very good however it has become inconsistent and sometimes downright awful. One of the 3 appetizers we got, the mussels were turning bad. We told them and they said sorry but they still charged us for inedible food. Oh, how it saddens me to write this review. Whenever I visit my sister in Garfield, NJ, I have to go to the great mom and pop Italian joints over anywhere else. The place we loved changed hands and the new owner doesn't have the gift that the old man had. My sister mentioned this new place La Sicila so we gave it a shot. We went on a Thursday night. The owner isn't very personable, he just stood there looking like what do these people want? The waitress was prompt and friendly. I ordered Ziti Bolongnese with a side of Meatballs and Sausage: I have to try both to know if I found home or not. The Ziti was overcooked, but acceptable because the sauce (or gravy as my grandparents called it) was wonderful. The meatballs were good, not like homemade, but good and the sausage was very good, they had a hint of rosemary which was not expected, but quite delicious. My sister had a bowl of Pasta Fagioli which was quite bland and a side salad. It's a BYOB place, so fortunately across the street you can buy beer and wine. I was very happy and the price was reasonable. Two nights later, I needed another fix, so we went back. No sign of the owner that I recall, but a different waitress who was also prompt and friendly came and sat us. This time we decided to try the Pizza. We both like meat, so we tried the meat lovers which includes sausage, meatball, and pepperoni. My sister ordered a cup of lentil soup. The bread and soup came and the lentil soup was awesome. We never tasted any as good. The pie took a long time and when it came we were blown away at the presentation. The pizza looked exactly like they went to the supermarket, bought a frozen pizza and then proceeded to forget it was in the oven. The crust was super thin and super dried out, like cardboard. There was very little cheese and instead of slices of meat, it was a sprinkling of ground up meat which was probably the left overs of the day ground up. There was very little sauce so imagine a bad supermarket pizza. I ate the topping and a few bites as I was hungry and suffering in disbelief of what was happening to my NJ mom and pop experience which I look forward to. I have not been to NJ in four years. My sister choked down a slice and the whole time I was saying this has to go back and she was saying no, lets just eat it and not make any waves. Well, this is not how to go out dining. I don't spend money to be upset and hungry! I asked for the waitress, I explained the situation. She asked if we would like to order something else, but by this time they had all the chairs in the front room up on the tables and I sure didn't want to force them to stay late just for us. I said "don't worry about it," this happens, we loved the food the other night and we will come again. She comes back with the bill and says, "I am sorry, but I have to charge you for the two slices!" That threw me to the floor. The manager has a new business, we are back a second time in three days, we leave a good tip and we don't complain unless there is a reason to do so. Instead of taking the pizza off the bill, he wants $5 or $6 bucks for one and a half slices when we came to eat a whole 16 inch pizza and are going home hungry and disappointed! I would have been fine with paying for the small cup of soup and the bread, since we did enjoy that, but the pizza! If I owned the place, I would have taken the $8 bill (+6 pizza) and said, next time the pizza is one me. Not here, we are some kind of restaurant scam artists who come order a full pizza so we can eat two slices and not pay. WOW. I gave the waitress $5 and out the door we went. So, to the owners of La Sicilia, look at my reviews. I eat out a lot and maybe review 10% of the places I go when I remember. I remember the best and the worst. My sister and her daughter and friends would have become regular customers for years and years to come (assuming you stay in business). This would have been a five star review. Instead, you go for the fast $6. I had 14,902 readers of my reviews in the last 90 days. People check Yelp and respect a good reviewer. They don't want to eat burned or improperly prepared food. They have about 50 other choices nearby. This is the power of Yelp. read more

The food was excellent the service polite and timely. The atmosphere is casual, friendly, like a family dinner. We shared calamari, & a house thin crust square pizza with an obviously housemade sauce. The salad was all fresh greens, onions, & tomatoes. For an entree I had stuffed flounder & homemade fettuccine in a light brown sauce. It melted in my mouth. I would recommend it to any one who wants a very good meal in a friendly family atmosphere. read more

Love this Italian restaurant in both Garfield and Belleville. The soup is delicious as are the entrees. My favorite is the flounder in portabello mushroom gravy. The fish is always fresh. The fettuccine San Remo is incredible. And their bread is calorie worthy. Always a pleasure to eat here. read more

This is a cozy little Italian restaurant with great prices. I've been here for lunch and dinner several times and the service was always good along with the meal. It's a great place to come with friends and chat over a meal. The front of the restaurant is a bar area and behind that area is the restaurant seating. I think you will like it. read more

I'm a big fan of LaSicilia's in Belleville. Have now been to their Garfield location 3 times so far and their menu, recipe and prices are the same as their Belleville location (of course, owned by the same family). We always bring some BYOB and have Palermo pizza slices cut up into strips and/or a soup for appetizer. Some times my wife gets the Tripe dish and she says its probably one of the best tripe dishes around (thou I cant say since I don't care for tripe!) My go to entree is usually any one of their Francese dishes. They have yet to disappoint, low key relaxing place, reasonable prices, good,consistent food quality and the portions are generous (yup, we always end up bringing some food home). The street location is not the greatest, but they do have plenty of parking right in front. Only negative is that its Cash Only, so hit the ATM first, then come here with friends or family to relax and have a good time in their main dining room. read more

Ordered dinner last night and it was very good. Nice fresh salad comes with every entree. (very nice and fresh). The shrimp francese was a great size portion with the perfect blend of wine and lemon. The only complaint I have is they pre-cooked the pasta. It was really over cooked. The sauce was very good though. read more

I stopped in with my family. Reasonable prices but we all agreed food wasn't good. I didn't even finish my eggplant rollitini dish the eggplant tasted foul to me. One thing we could agree on was that the sauce was excellent which in turn made the pizza great and the pasta alone with sauce great. It wasn't busy at all, but the waitress wasn't all that attentive. It wasn't until we receive the check and she cleaned the table that she realized i didn't eat much. Normally most servers will stop in at least once maybe 5 to 10 minutes after you received your food to ask "is everything okay?". I see the other great reviews and I wonder if maybe I just caught them on a bad day? Not sure, but I am not from the area so it's unlikely I will return. read more

We gave this place a try 2 times...but unfortunately we will not be back...first time, we ordered their pizza for delivery...YUCK...now I like thin pizza but this was like almost no pizza...couldn't even pick it up. We tossed it out..and in our house, we NEVER toss out pizza. Last night, we went for dinner at the restaurant this time...and that basically sealed the fate of this place...first of all...service? HORRIBLE! took them over a half hour to just bring the menu...then they bring butter...no bread...we had to go get the waitress to finally get our food order in...after placing the order with her...we're waiting for our food and the other waitress comes over..asking to take our order..that at this time, it should've been coming out...chicken piccata..so salty my fiance didn't even eat his dinner...I had the flounder Marechiara and the mussels and clams were so overcooked they weren't edible..the flounder had so much oregano on it that was all I could taste...it cost us $60 with one soda each and we ended up tossing the entire meal...not to mention...we didn't even order appetizers and it took them from start to finish almost 3 hours to get us in, take our order and bring us our dinner...since we hardly ate it, we were done with eating in about 15 minutes....should've realized I wouldn't get a good italian meal here when the menu stated Tomato BRUSKETTA...lol..Will NOT go back. read more

Watch out for this place! Half the workers don't know the prices and charge you whatever they want when you pay with card, has happened to me with takeout and delivery both times they charged me more than they should have! When I called to ask them they didn't have an answer were just mumbling with no explanation, great food, horrible customer service! read more

If I could give them zero stars I would. Ordered food and took over an hour and half for delivery. I fell asleep and they claim they called? How about ringing the doorbell and making a real attempt? I called the next morning and they would not refund my money or bring my order. By the way their food has gone downhill. I kept thinking that maybe it was "just this time" that we received horrible food but my last 3 orders were horrible. They have lost my business! Happened to be passing by and stopped in for a pizza--never been here before. We ordered a salad which was decent and good size for two. They gave us bread which wasn't hot or crispy--a no no in my book. It was one of those 90+ degree days and they had 1 small a.c. unit which didn't cool off the place at all--it was stifling. After waiting for 45 mins. I asked where the pizza was. I was told they had a large order and got busy. After a few minutes our pizza came out but we ended up taking it home since I was ready to keel over from the heat in there. Looks like new owners and I wish them luck, but I won't be going back. I should have gotten an apology and a free pizza for that unpleasant visit but didn't. read more

My husband & I used to go to La Sicilia in Belleville. All was great EXCEPT that there was no parking lot & it was treacherous crossing Washington Ave., if you had to park across the street. We were so excited to discover that they opened a new restaurant in Garfield ! So far, we have brought several friends & family with us! The food is excellent, the waitresses are pleasant & accommodating, and the prices are moderate! We love the pitchers of water that they place on the tables. The bread, eggplant parmigiana, gnocchi, cavetelli with broccoli & Palermo pizza is wonderful! The last time we were there, they presented us with an appetizer sized sampling of the Palermo pie! Such a pleasant addition to our meal! Have never had eggplant parmigiana that is as good as here! THE BEST!!! When I read the 1 star ratings it is so very difficult for us to understand what went wrong for these other customers. read more
