Lots of lag time with pages downloading, and when you compose messages and emails of any kind, it only allows you to type o n e l e t t e r a t a t i m e...Anyone who has owned a PC long enough recognizes the symptoms, and what they mean. Corruption. Infection. VIRUSES. About two weeks ago, mine started doing it, and I knew that if I didn't do something about it, I was in for some serious trouble. I have had my laptop for less than a year, although I tend to do a lot of Yelping, Facebooking, 'Tumblr'-ing, shopping, and uhm..."shopping" on it. (Yeah...let's call that "shopping"...) Anyway, my partner, Bear, had found this little shop off West Sahara called Supertech, when his Mac went out on him. The owner/head tech, Lem Aligaen, not only found there was nothing wrong, but didn't even charge him more than the basic $25 just to do an overall check. (It turned out to be a browser bug, not a hardware glitch.) But you know me, folks...I gotta do stuff "the HARD way". So before I finally took my 'baby' in to see Lem at Bear's recommendation, first I tried to use one of those services that's advertised on TV all the time, for 'cleaning your PC.' I got the runaround, got to waste time talking to people whose first language was definitely NOT English, to put it delicately, and then I was subjected to PowerPoint-based "scare tactics",which outlined that it would cost at LEAST $399 to cleanse my hard drive of electronic diseases, PLUS I would have to send my PC to GEORGIA, on my own dime, where the repairs would take a MINIMUM of twelve days to perform. I hung up on those suckers, tout suite! And when Bear mentioned Lem and Supertech, I didn't have to think about it more than two seconds. If's quite a jaunt by bus if you have no wheels, and it sits back off the road, in the middle of a bunch of other shops where you wouldn't think to find a computer repair place. But Lem was friendly and knowledgable. And FAST! When he asked me when I needed it back, I said I wouldn't mind picking it up on the following Monday or Tuesday (I dropped it off on a Wednesday), which Lem agreed was enough time. He called me to let me know it was ready that FRIDAY. And did it cost me $399? Nope. Ninety bucks. And yes, you're reading that right. So if you have PC troubles, bypass the hassles I went through - and that includes going to see "the 'GEEK SQUAD'". Go see Lem first. I was in the middle of a critical work project during the recent 3-day holiday weekend when, in the middle of a sentence, the computer just blinked off. Nothing I did had any effect. It was a nightmare. None of my work was backed up yet and this project had a hard deadline of Monday morning. I called 5 companies requesting emergency service and only Supertech called me back. Supertech computer fixed my laptop's cracked screen. Lem gave me a fixed priced based of what available screen on the market. I was quoted about $300 but it went lower when he found a cheaper screen. What can I say? Lem saved my laptop again! The first time it was the hard drive, I thought the thing was a goner but he had it up and running like new in days. As a photographer, having my laptop available at ALL times is critical. Just earlier this week I come to find out someone spilled water all over the table my laptop was on and it seems to have sat in it overnight. It would only make the turn on sound and shut off. Excellent computer shop! Had a problem with my daughter's laptop battery not charging. Took it in, and the gentleman (Gene, I think) spent a good 15-20 minutes checking it out and found an a/c adapter that would charge the battery. Told me the battery and jack are OK, just needs a new charger. I asked what I owed him for his time and he said: Nah, it's fine. So I went back a few weeks later and donated a bunch of a/c adapters I had from different laptops I had bought at auction. This time Lem was there, I told him the story and asked if I would give them a Yelp review. I said I already had, but when I checked my account it seems I didn't. Doggone CRS... Lem the computer tech I met when I walked into the store for the first time was very professional. I brought in a Lenovo Thinkpad that I bought from a pawn shop. It had a lot of issues. I brought it to Lem because the most recent problem I'd ran into was that it wouldn't turn on and I had some very important data on it. I had brought it to another computer tech first and he couldn't fix it. So I brought it to Lem thinking the laptop just couldn't be saved. I asked him if he could just get the files I had on it and download them onto a flash drive. He said that wouldn't be a problem. Well to my surprise he suggested that he could possibly get the laptop to work like normal. I said go right ahead. Low and behold he was able to fix it and he did it quickly. It works even better than it did when it crashed. Thanks Lem! I HIGHLY recommend anyone that is having issues with their computer or laptop to seek him it out. He's great. Lem just made me a custom computer that has twice as much storage as my old computer that ended up being over loaded and slow and losing things on my Outlook (contacts, sent file etc..). This new computer is so fast I cant keep up, well yes I can keep up, that is what I needed, a computer that can keep up with me..lol.. and that is what i got.
