Probably the best vegan food we have ever tried. We got the Buffalo ranch chicken sandwich, chicken tenders, fish tacos, jalapeño poppers and grits. For dessert, we tried their peach cobbler. My sister and I were hungry and decided to go get food somewhere so she decides SVE but to our disbelief my sister couldn't find the page so I searched it and turns out she blocked my sister, for who knows why ?? We decided to go anyways bc my sis loves her food so the time was 4pm & SVE closes at 5pm. We got there at 4:30 and the outside sign said closed but I already walked in to ask if they were still taking orders and the girl at the counter asked the chefs and she said yes they'll accept our orders. Her attitude the ENTIRE time was incredibly rude and disgusting, she didn't want to service us at all and served as the front face of the company which definitely set the tone for everything set to follow. I tried to order the impossible niyah which is just bread and meat, so to my surprise they said no!! I was really hoping to get that but since I hungrily drove to SVE and made it on time to order, I ordered same as sis. 4 minutes later I realized I really wanted the niyah so I shouldn't compensate just bc I couldn't order that and it was almost closing so I thought it'd be less work for them, I didn't want Nikki's special so I asked to cancel one of the orders; the girl got an attitude, went to ask Nikki and she rudely said no the food was already made (within 4min..?) . It was just crazy to me bc she was standing there chatting it up the entire time, when she PERSONALLY told me [on fb] that she doesn't mind getting in the kitchen and preparing food herself. The food was good, I didn't end up finishing it but it does comes with a lot. This whole event was a waste of time but I'm actually fortunate to come to the conclusion to no longer even try supporting this business anymore. To support my claim even further I can't help but to lowkey think of Ms. Nikki as a scammer. What is the point of putting prices on the menu when you're gonna add personal tax and ring up a totally different price, THEN add taxes on top of that!! Most people typically follow up with a tip. That explains why it's pricier to eat here. The sunrise breakfast, the cheesy grits w/ shrimp, and the niyah are the only things I can seem to find enjoyable here. The Nikki special is alright and taste bests when you mix it all together, I was most excited about the Mac and cheese but it tastes like Daiya which I find gross so the yams taste the best out of the 3 sided meal. I was expecting baked mac per the Instagram story pic but when I got it tasted like stove top mac. The French fries are a disgrace to the tongue, I'd rather eat a moldy orange!!! Considering the fries once tasted better than the whole sandwich, to me asking for crispy fries and they were literally uncooked and had less shape than spaghetti cooked pasta. Let me not get started on the smoothies!!! $10 for that?? You have GOT to be kidding me! My sis & I got the Hulk, It had no real taste, it felt like they dumped everything in the blender with no regard to pairing flavors or caring for taste because health wise the smoothie sounds like it does something but I couldn't taste any of the ingredients such as pineapple or strawberries; if anything we tasted the banana from the last smoothie made. read more

Honestly, I can't recommend the food here based on the items I and my companion purchased, because they were not great, however, I believe that the extensive menu no doubt has many great vegan items. It is my belief also that the menu is too extensive and ambition is good, but sometimes you need to limit your offerings to the fewer items that you can perfect. The peach cobbler could have been better but it needs to cook in the oven longer (at least 60 minutes) so that it isn't too doughy. The shrimp po' boy was good and that really isn't the restaurant's fault. Konjac which is used as a shrimp alternative has the texture of shrimp but is generally not very tasty. The other items also were far from perfect and considering the many choices on the menu, I would surmise that some choices are very good and others lacking. Trim the menu to the best items and perfect some others. read more

My experience was pleasant - the restaurant was clean and inviting, and the staff were all friendly. I tried the "Incredible Niyah" but I don't have pictures because I wolfed it downnnn. This vegan hoagie can compete with any Buffalo hood spot (yes, hood spot because until now they've had the best hoagies. Debate me!). The fish sandwich and fries were delicious. Yes it tasted like an actual fried fish sandwich and the fries were hand cut. The menu is more creative than many vegan restaurants out there. I came to Sunshine with high hopes, but left disappointed. There were several enticing food options and the service was initially friendly. We ordered a po boy, order of street tacos, nacho app, and two juices. The total was $70. We sat on the patio, which was clean. We became very frustrated when the food took 40 minutes to come out. When it did, the fries were missing from the po boy plate. I double checked the menu and it clearly states it comes with fries. When my husband asked for the fries, they refused to give them to him without a receipt. We had literally just been served the food a moment ago and discarded the plastic bag which had the receipt in it. We felt this was unacceptably poor customer service and ended up without the fries we paid for. Having always gotten take out, I would just warn others that the fries will not be at their peak when you get them home. I really did not want to do this-- but I have been dwelling on it for the last few days and figured I would share my experience. I have had SVE on my "must-try" list for a long time, yet at the same time nothing quite piqued my interest. Reviews seemed hit or miss, or quite frankly, biased. My dad wanted to treat an employee to lunch this past Friday, who is Jamaican and familiar with vegan foods. I got to tag along since Dad chose this place with me in mind. Upon entering, only his employee was greeted. I am not going to play any cards here, but the whole time we were treated coldly. My dad tried telling the owner how he was excited to come here since I'm vegan and such, but she was pretty passive the whole encounter. Dad and I shared the buffalo ranch chicken sandwich (made with oyster mushrooms) & some cookies, while his employee got the "Nikki's Special". We came around 12:30/1 and it really wasn't busy. I don't know how many online orders they get though, so that is a relevant factor. Over 45 minutes later we got the food. This isn't fine dining/fully sit-down restaurant either, so I found this a bit long. I understand staffing shortages and online orders, but this seems to be a common complaint pre-COVID. The food was lukewarm, which was an initial disappointment. The flavor of the sandwich was fine, but everything is completely over sauced and messy, but not in a good way. Sure, you could order sauces on the side. But they shouldn't be served in a way that makes the bun soggy and the whole sandwich a floppy mess. There should be a baseline for all the dishes, as with any other place. His employee said the mac and cheese noodles were overdone, the yams sickeningly sweet, and the collard greens tasted spoiled. We snacked on the cookies while we waited, and we enjoyed those. But for these prices, it was a letdown. Yes, vegan food can be more expensive. However, the prices here are frankly gouged. Some things seem really cheap, while others have prices that don't quite add up. Maybe we would do take-out, but I honestly was not impressed. I always had mixed feelings about coming here in general, and our experience just confirmed that. We wanted to support local and vegan, but sometimes they can't all be winners. I think in this case, the lower reviews are more relevant to the overall business, and it is a shame. read more

If my review was based on food alone it would be a 5, much like if my review was based on everything else it would be 1...so meet in the middle. Full disclosure I am a meat eater so use that as you will when I assess the food but I do dabble in all cuisine including vegan. We placed an order at 11am for 1pm pickup only to arrive and have to wait 30 minutes, no acknowledgement throughout the wait until I asked for an update and even then the customer service was a bit lacking. No sorry, thank you for your patience, just sent me on my way. Since I was on lunch from work you can imagine this did not thrill me. Additionally prices on the menu are not what the actual price is, if ordering online the app prices are accurate but not on any of the menus - example: buffalo chicken is posted for $14.00 but actual costs $14.56. Not sure if this is built in sales tax due to the strange amount but they charge tax too. Ok enough complaining, onto the food - if all that prior hadn't occurred and I was judging food alone? Great! I got the buffalo ranch sandwich with fries, if I didn't know ahead of time it was oyster mushrooms I would have just assumed I was eating chicken! Great flavor and filling.
