Being a long time Sequim resident the Sunshine Cafe holds a spot deep in my heart. Since the early 1970's I have been enjoying breakfasts and lunches at the Sunshine Cafe. Today Al and Diane are the owners and cook up an honest meal for each guest. Gigi who has been with the cafe since it open is still sassy as ever. New owners and the restaurant just opened up. It was fantastic!!! Breakfast and brunch menu, but all with a gourmet twist. I had 6 oz sirloin with 2 poached eggs in a chipotle sauce and "waffle edges." Great taste, large portions. My husband had the pancakes with maple bacon chips and sausage. I took my mom here for lunch for her birthday. She lives in Sequim but had never been to the Sunshine Cafe. The food is really, really good and the portions are enormous. The homemade clam chowder is probably the best clam chowder I've ever had. The sweet potato fries were also excellent. I don't think the prices are as reasonable as the other reviewers have said. We ordered two sandwich entrees, a pop, a tea, and a side of sweet potato fries to share, and with the tip it came to $40. That's pretty steep for lunch for two in my opinion; that's why my rating is four stars instead of five. Also, beware of the hours. They close at 3:00. We didn't realize this and arrived at about 2:45, and when I realized they closed at 3:00 I felt bad. They didn't give us any trouble about it though. read more

My family and I stopped in for lunch and the atmosphere was absolutely wonderful. The menu has so many different choices. When the food came you could tell that the cooks took great pride in their dishes. Everything was fresh, homemade and tasted excellent. Visited my brother who lives in town last week so me and my girlfriend decided to see what's around the small town of Sequim and noticed the Sunshine Cafe on the way to get some food. So we decided to stop in the next morning to try it out. We were excited because we love trying new places but this one disappointed. We walked in and it was kind of awkward.. Nobody greeted us and we weren't sure if we should just sit at a table or wait, so we waited a couple minutes until someone came. The girl was nice, but after being seated they gave us water and then we waited about 20-25 minutes before they asked what we would like to eat. This time we had a different lady. It seemed that the two younger girls and the one older lady all worked together and didn't have designated tables to serve. The older lady who took our order wasn't very engaging, it was more like "watcha guys want" and that was it. We then waited about 30 more minutes before we got our food. It didn't help that they only had one cook. When we got our food, it looked good and I was going to town on it, but my girlfriend found a hair mixed in with her hash browns, and as I was almost finished I ended up finding one as well. I was pretty angry at that. We told the younger girl and she was nice about it and then she proceeded to tell the older lady. She tried to play it off and say she doesn't see any hair but made sure to show her where it was. I'm usually not the type to complain, ever... but nobody wants hair in their food whether it's a big piece of hair or little piece.. lol. She gave us our food for free but we still left a few bucks as we aren't the type to just want to eat for free. Living in Vegas all my life I know how a Restaurant should be. Very nice, clean and cheerful environment. Good service. The chicken fried steak was cooked well and the gravy was delicious. There is nice music quietly playing in the background. There is quite a few tables of customers. The kitchen staff seemed content and efficiently busy. The hash browns were homemade and cooked to a golden color. The eggs were perfectly cooked. Great breakfast/lunch joint in Sequim. Eating out with celiacs is a pain in the ass but this restaurant does so well! Their GF options are clearly marked AND they have easy substitutions. I got their cordon bleu sammy and subbed out the breaded chicken for grilled (only because gluten...not for anything other reason #AntiDiet) and is was FAB. Go for the sweet potato fries dipped in ranch and you'll be happy. The environment is cute and the staff are efficient! read more

The new owners of Sunshine Cafe have developed a delicious menu. My husband and I have been here twice for breakfast and the food is delicious. I especially like the French toast with bananas. Staff are friendly and quick with a coffee refill. The cafe is small so plan on coming early do you don't have to worry about a wait. Parking is readily available too if you come early. Delicious! My husband had the sunshine omelette which was stuffed with ham, mushrooms, onions, tomatoes and cheese. I had sausages and eggs delicious sausages. We both commented on the hash browns which were crisp on the outside and creamy below. Will go back! read more

My husband and I decided to try this café. We called ahead to see if they made homemade hash browns and yes they do! The experience was amazing and the ambiance was wonderful. The new owner Tristen has remodeled the entire inside! They serve cocktails and local beer on tap. The poached eggs were cooked to perfection and the hash browns amazing. The people were very nice. The prices were high, in my opinion, for what it was. In addition three of us had soup or something like it, and we were asked if we wanted a corn muffin which we did. Then we were charged five dollars for each one! True, they were big. But they weren't that good, and I wish that the server would've told us that they would be charging us an extra five dollars when she asked us if we wanted one. I, for one, would've said no. Once upon a time, The Sunshine Cafe was owned and operated by people who 'cared' deeply about their customers - their community ... Since being sold - the whole 'small town' feeling is gone. The warmth and kindness - the genuine good thoughts and well wishes are all but long forgotten. Sadly, during the pandemic, there have been many businesses that took a financial beating - by having to cut hours drastically while laying off employees or worse, having to close their doors indefinitely. The State of Washington 'mandated' a requirement to wear masks - EVERYONE - not just a chosen few - EVERYONE. Unfortunately, Sunshine Cafe (owners & employees) have decided NOT to comply with said mandate nor are they requiring their customers to wear face coverings. Not that it will make any difference at this juncture - but they have been reported numerous times and still do as they please. I and several of my friends will never step foot in there again. I didn't think to take a picture because a hamburger is a hamburger. Or so I thought. This was the best bacon cheeseburger we've ever had. The bacon and cheese were grilled and covered the generous patty and topped with a good slice of tomato and red onion with a leafy lettuce leaf topping it all. I'll try to say something good first: Server was friendly. But no mask - and no mask on cook or others in kitchen. We should have let that be enough and left. $23 for two sausage egg McMuffin equivalents with hash browns and 1 small OJ. My husband asked for his egg over very hard. We both got our eggs cooked to crispy. The sausage patty looked like it had been deep fried. So dried out there wasn't a bit of softness to it. The English muffin was just shy of burned. I love the Sunshine Cafe! The ladies are always friendly and the food is fantastic! The last time I was in I was faced with a conundrum.... Corned beef gash or chicken fried steak. So I posed it to the waitress and asked if the steak was made in house or is it a "Toaster pastry" like so many places like to try to call homemade? I also asked if the hash was indeed made fresh of does it come from a can... both valid questions as I can open a can at home. She suggested the hash and I was not disappointed. DEFINITELY not from a can and actually quite good!! I do have to say it was one of the top 5 for hash I've ever had. Plenty of perfectly seasoned meat and just the right amount of taters. This time I went in for the chicken fried steak and it was just that.. steak! Not from a freezer, a real breaded steak and not a tiny one either. The gravy was seasoned well and had the sausage flavor that it's supposed to have. I also got the biscuit since a gravy meal deserves a gravy kind of bread.. also appears to be made in house and was pretty darn good. I typically get to steal a piece of moms french toast since she's a light eater. It's darn tasty and always cooked just right! Oh and yay... Coke not Pepsi! The pricing is on par with any other breakfast joint. Some are higher and some are lower but I can tell you if you spend less.... you'll get less. Just a helpful tip. I'd give it 0 stars if I could. We waited 10 minutes to be seated when there was 2 table sitting empty right in front of us. After another 10 minutes, of being ignored, we left. Not even a cup of coffee was offered and they were not busy. You'd think after 35 years of being in business they'd have it figured out by now. This morning we stopped for breakfast at Sunshine Cafe. We have dined there many times over the years. This AM was the worst and we will never again patronize Sunshine until or unless the owners apologize and promise to help their customers in menu selections and never to gouge others again going forward. This AM we were charged $6.00 each for 2 concrete textured pancakes, another $6.00 for a skinny piece of ham and $3.50 for 1 cup of good coffee with 1 refill. An outrageous $21.50 + tax for a very so-so breakfast! The arrogance and far less from accommodating waitress was indeed the capper for us. The moral of this bad experience is that the customer should be enormously thorough and aware of price-gouging with reading their menu and subsequent Q&A of the waitress before ordering. Is it difficult to get potatoes to Sequim? Onions? Is there some sort of blockade or giant troll on Hwy 101 that makes getting food to this diner a costly or risky expedition? If not, there's absolutely no excuse for the prices, which are ridiculously high for this very average diner food. I had a very average and rather thin French dip. This comes with either a small side salad or a side of fries. $12. I had the side salad, which did come with a good bleu cheese dressing, then added a side of very ordinary French fries. For $5. Imagine paying $5 for a box of nothing-special fries at the drive-thru. The menu warns that their portions are so large, they understand if you want to split your plate with your dining companion. $2 to split a plate, or double what I've ever seen at any other restaurant. I LOLd when I saw my middling, thin, $12 sandwich, and the side salad that took me all of four bites to eat. Large portions, eh? For a six-year-old, maybe. Check total, with just water to drink, was $18.48. At the Apogee in Renton, near where I used to live, the exact same order costs $13. read more

Well, let me put the record straight, I am not that crazy about this place. There, its done. The food is nothing special and the service is fine (but not that you would notice if you wen't thinking about yelping the place). The downtown location is pretty cool and the place is clean as a whistle but the story darkens from there... First off, I of corse have my usual complaint about the hours of service (this is a universal problem in Sequim). 7am is closer to my lunch time the breakfast so I waited a half hour for them to open and they wouldn't even let me order of the lunch menu! Second, I am reading a lot of reviews raving about the huge portions of food, this perplexes me because after eating two full orders I was still wanting more. Third, the food is really um... I will just say not good. It tasted like it had been freshly picked form the selves of Costco. And lastly, the price was rather high for a Cafe that leaves you still hungry and and with a lackluster taste experience. Bottom line: not the worst in town but just not worth coming back again and again. read more

It was a busy day, and we had to wait a few minutes before our order was taken, but the staff (including the cook, who was visible from our seats at the counter) was friendly and accommodating, and the food came up quickly. We were in the area for the Olympic Game Farm and went here based on the high rating from Yelp!. The place is easy to find and very small. There is about 10 table and a bar area seating 5 people. After ordering our drinks the watress ask us if we wanted entertainment for our children. Which she then brought out a couple coloring books and crayons. The atmosphere was that of a local cafe and very homely. The family ordered 1/2 egg salad sandwich w/ curley fries ($5.95), gold miner sandwich w/ sweet potato fries ($9.25) and toast ($1.50). The warm food was all served hot and all was very fresh. The portions were big enough that all of us didn't eat everything. If you are ever in the area this is a highly recommended location to stop for a great meal. The price for all food, drink and tip was $26. read more

Short version: The blurb at the bottom of the menu says that you'll want to share their "generous portions". I left still hungry. Street parking only. Service was good, coffee was OK and I never had to ask for a refill. I ordered the corned beef hash breakfast, hoping that I would have a big breakfast to help me get through my busy day. I was wrong. The food covered a little more than half of the platter it was delivered on. The only way I'd share this amount of food is if I brought someone with me that hadn't eaten in four days, and even then it would have been tough. If you're gonna tell folks that your portions are big, and serve this amount of food, you should be prosecuted for fraud. I'd rather pay a little more and not have to go home and eat a sandwich two hours later because I'm still hungry. If you want to serve senior citizen sized portions, have a senior citizens menu with separate pricing, and let folks that work hard for a living have the food they need to start their day, and charge accordingly. If you get it right, your business will be busy. Get it wrong, and you'll know it. Until their portions get bigger, I'm not going back. Don't come here if you're really hungry. read more

I've been there twice, and have not been disappointed either time. Breakfast is my favorite meal, though, so I may be biased. Friendly staff, hot coffee that keeps coming, and tasty, filling meals. I like when breakfast places that have lots of choices with the meals allow substitutions: they let me switch the bacon for an extra egg since I don't eat meat. Real blueberries on my French toast too! I think from now on whenever we travel through or to Sequim, we make sure it's around breakfast time so we can eat at the Sunshine Cafe. My only complaint: my most recent trip in August was on a weekday, and we had our dog with us, and I was sad to see they didn't have tables outside so pup had to sit in the car. I dunno if this was because it was a weekday, or because we got there too early, or because they thought it was too chilly outside? But anyway, I'm *sure* they would have accommodated if we had asked but I was with company who doesn't like to make a fuss of things ;) read more

Terrific cafe with fast, very friendly service. It's fairly expected offerings in terms of menu and quality, but the standouts are the fresh ground coffee and fresh baked pecan rolls, and pancakes with smiley faces cooked in. I'm generally not too critical on these reviews however I feel like the reviews I read were not for the place I went to today. Service was great and I had great expectations as the place was packed and the reviews on here were so good. I ordered the egg sandwich with tomato slices substituting the meat options as I don't eat meat. It comes with a side of hash browns. I was so surprised how bland my meal was, as I am a person who never adds salt to anything and often find things are too salty. I added salt and that still didn't help the situation. I added ketchup to the hashbrowns but then gave up on them completely. Unfortunately I never want to complain or send food back because I too work in a cafe and I know how hard the cooks try. I was starving from just heading home from a camping trip that I ate most of the food anyway. When we arrived everyone at their tables had food so I was surprised how long it took to receive our dishes. We waited at least 40 minutes for our food after we ordered and didn't see other dishes going out in the meantime. Maybe the cook took a break? I'm hoping this was just an "off day" and that simple bland food that takes so long to prepare is not truly what people consider "feel good" "just like grandmas" food. Went to this place recently since I was in the area visiting a lavender farm. There were rave reviews on Yelp so I decided to try it out. I ordered the Monte Cristo (a grilled cheese, turkey and ham sandwich made with French Toast bread) with sweet potato fries. Loved it! No complaints on service either, they were very attentive. Cocktails were the best part of our meal. Now the rest. We ordered chicken wings and while the hot sauce was delicious, the wings were so dry, almost jerky like, well overcooked. We ordered burgers for our dinner. I ordered mine medium as well as my friend. They both came out well done and bone dry. The bread was very dry as well.. The salad was good, dressing refreshing, but would suggest they use a different bowl to serve it in, as I gave up eating it when every fork full landed on the table, or perhaps better silverware that will pierce the salad. LOVE this place for breakfast and would love to see breakfast all day because dinner doesn't cut it. Left hungry. Didn't take leftovers. Got a small discount on uneaten food.
