Came in and was immediately presented by a girl with an attitude lol. She was literally picking her nails.. super disgusting! I was watching to see if she used gloves... and she did! But the food was ok nothing to rant and rave about. Got a number 2 and a number 17. Both croissants were overly toasted. It was HOTTTT in there July 2024. I think that's why she has an attitude lol. The place looked clean and it was quiet considering the neighborhood. All in all id go back if I'm in need of some food. read more

I'm not much of a donut person but I was craving a donut today. Randomly stopped into this place and boy was I surprised. Now the location is small and nothing fancy but the donuts!! Literally the best donuts that I've had. The donut holes literally melted in my mouth. The cake donut was so soft and low soft. I ordered one donut but the girl working the counter through in a few free donut holes! I'm glad she did because I'll definitely be back read more

The girl in the front is very ignorant. I walked in she had her back turned as she was cooking. She had very poor customer service. She took my order with her back turned. I asked her a question and she said she couldn't hear! Well... how could anyone hear if your back is turned and you're not properly addressing your customer! I let it go because I was in a rush. I placed my order... told her specifically what I wanted. The order was completely wrong! I called and let her know I told you exactly what I wanted. I even asked you before I left. All she could say was, "Oh my bad!" At that point, I just hung up the phone. Very tacky business! I would never go back. read more

OMG This has to be the worse donut EVER!! I stopped by after the car wash because I wanted a Fresh - not packaged - Donut. I decided to get my parents one also but they "just sold out" of the Bear Claw... ok... Glazed Twist for Dad Chocolate Twist for Me Apple Fritter for Mom I was going to wait until I got home but the donut looked so moist, I grabbed my Chocolate Twist while I was driving, took a bite and IMMEDIATELY noticed that it smelled like old GREASE which is not the smell you want as you put a DONUT in your mouth!!! Unfortunately my brain didn't notify my mouth in time and I took a bite - sigh - it was so gross!! There was no sweetness, no donut flavor, OLD GREASE. I can only assume the other donuts were cooked in the old grease well... $5.50 in the trash... How could they!? So nasty. Stay away! read more

I tried a breakfast sausage croissant sandwich from here and I unfortunately wasn't too impressed. I expected to get a sandwich with actual sausage in it but it turns out they use something similar to a hot dog weenie. I went online to check pictures and it seems to me that that was actually my mistake because if I look closely at their pictures it does look like a hot dog weenie on their advertisement, but at quick glance I thought it was sausage links. Sadly, I wasn't able to eat the meat portion of it because I'm pregnant and the doctor told me to stay away from anything deli meat so I took it out and ate the rest. The egg tasted really bland and the dressing/mayo that was used was very sweet. However the croissant itself was toasted nicely. I wouldn't get a breakfast sandwich from here again, but I'd come back to try their donuts or boba. read more

Lots of complainers. Must not like their own life to give such reviews. Stop in regularly and their doughnuts are fresh, limited as the day wears on. And started coming here as the place down the street you can smell cigerett odor on their doughnuts. Never had a bad one in many years. Never experienced one with old oil smell. And Covid did not take my smelling ability away. Get a sandwich or croissant meal and switch it up to try the different offerings. Always good and tasty. It seems that nasty people need to leave those nasty reviews. Sad comment on todays ethics and lack of character as they hide behind a keyboard. No one takes responsibility for their actions and order not off the menu but their imagination and then disappointed when the get what they ordered. Amazing. read more

We were headed to an Easter Brunch & didn't want to come empty handed so we spotted this place on the way in order to get a dozen donuts. Since it was a holiday there was only one worker and she was busy making some delicious looking sandwiches. But even so, she made time to greet us & let us know she'd be right with us as soon as she could. We got the mixed dozen and pretty much chose our favorite type of donuts, maple bars, chocolate bars and glazed. We also got an apple fritter for the host of the brunch we were headed to (ok, it's my mom and she absolutely LOVES apple fritters!). This place was an awesome find for us, with great products and friendly service. Looks like it's very much appreciated in the neighborhood too. read more

I normally come in to get a bagel with ham, egg, bacon and cheese. Today I decided, what the heck.... I'll just get it on a toasted regular sandwich bread. Price is $4.50 for both bagel or sandwich bread. I asked for bacon egg ham and cheese. And was charged 6,50 because of the way it was ordered, even though they have it posted as a #9...hmm, go figure. I asked why so much and was told because I asked for ham. Just for that simple reason I will not be coming back. I know it's only 2 dollars, but at least tell my why you're charging me that. I've been a loyal customer for the past 4 years and you lost me over 2 dollars.... read more

So so so grossed out right now! I thought i found a cool new spot for boba and croissants, but i was so wrong. Today was the 4th time i came here and i can say i will not go back! The first 3 times, i had a wonderful experience. The lady (who i assume is the owner) is so nice and friendly and i thought the food was delicious and cheap! I went to get a ham and cheese croissant with jalapeños and after a few bites....bam! A ROACH!!! Not on top of it. Baked right into it! I am so DISGUSTED and DISAPPOINTED. I tried to call the shop right after it happened to complain and at least get my money back for the food that went straight into the trash, but no one answered. Therefore i am writing this review in hopes that they come across it and to warn other customers. It seems like a nice little shop, but their health code is definitely not up to par. Docking a single star just because of the service I got a few days ago. I'm asking if I want the combo with the ham and cheese croissant and I ask what is the combo like. I just get given the point at a poster to a part I didn't immediately see and no words. Took me a few seconds to see that it was chips and combo and I said no. I get maybe the combo at donut stores is always going to be chips and drink but it's rude to just point when you can just say "chips and drink". Total came out to be $4 and it was 50 cents extra charge because I paid with card. The sandwich was really good I would have to admit for the price. I like buttery croissants. And they had fruit cups which I would like to try the next time I'm there. read more

I came by after work on a weekday. On my visit there was a small family enjoying their donuts and drinks at the tables, and a man waiting for his sandwich - to us this was a great sign as it seemed like a regular spot for locals. There were still a few donuts in the case, but not all the choices were there - given the hour. We opted for a ham and cheese croissant warmed up, and a donut with strawberry icing. We also enjoyed some avocado shakes - which were pleasantly fresh - after seeing her cut the avocados fresh she told us that she makes all her smoothies with real fruit. read more

I love love love this place my go to breakfast spot when im working in Long Beach.. Customer service is amazing so efficient and always hot food... I order Sausage sand with just cheese and jalapenos with cup of ice they know my order before I order.. always smiles and family vibes... I've seen them handle so many rude ppl with same amazing customer service... Definitely recommend donuts too and smoothies. read more

Wow.....I have no idea how this place gets 4 stars. I ordered two ham and cheese rolls, a maple bar, and a chocolate bar. The ham and cheese were so soggy and over nuked they were barely edible. Both the maple bar and chocolate bar were one bite bars then into the trash they went. A total waste of money. Find another option if you can. read more

So I came here and got a GREEN APPLE smoothie and she gave me green tea smoothie it taste just like milk and then she refused to make me another one unless I paid again telling me that I said green tea and what's posted online is not in the store my daughter got a donut and it taste like it's been sitting forever. I came here and ordered a caramel boba and it tasted like nothing... they don't put enough flavoring in it and it's really sad because it must be under New Management because I came here a couple years ago and it was great but now they're just being cheap on there ingredients ... And they have no refund policy so they could just mess up your drink and they won't make you another one and you definitely won't get your money back. So disappointing never coming here again. read more

Only place within a 5 mile radius of my house that has decent boba. It isn't the cheapest, but it definitely hits the sweet spot. Most of their boba drinks come in the smoothie form. I LOVED my taro boba smoothie. It is pretty sweet, but unless you're diabetic and watching your glucose levels, I'd say it's worth the $3 something I paid for it. The owners and the guy working there are also super sweet. My sister and I made a boba run one night, and called right before closing. They told us they would wait for us! How nice is that? read more

The reason why I give this place 5 stars is because THEY ALWAYS HAVE FRENCH CRULLERS!! Honestly, I HATE donuts-- I'll only eat donuts if it's a French Cruller or Krispy Kreme. I'm always the one who buys their whole stock of Crullers after 2pm.... Guilty of all charges, you guys probably hate me now! And it doesn't hurt that they always give me a few extra donuts in addition to the dozen that I already buy. That made me sound really fat! Their boba drinks are really yummy, but can get pricey if you buy more than 1 drink. I suggest paying in cash because it's $0.50 or $1 to use your card, which is a lot if your total is only $3. read more

Avocado smoothie taste crap and expensive too!!! This ruined the Avocado in me! didn't finish my smoothie. I threw it away. If i could give 0 star, I would. And oh! I thought I would try this place out based on the few very good reviews it received. It's a nice try, but ultimate no-go for me. I tried the cafe milk tea boba (probably should've tried the Thai tea boba). Powder, powder, everywhere! Waaaaaaay too sweet. So sweet, I can't tell whether the boba is good or if its tangy. After dumping 1/3, drinking some full strength and making a 1:1 water mix of the rest, it was still too sweet. But better. It turns out the boba IS good, when not overshadowed. And the price? CAN be beat where I'm from. $3.49 for a ice blended boba! I damn near fell out over that. The place I normally go for boba is 2.00 for a regular, and during happy hour you get a dollar off! Dolphin Bay Cafe has a 2 for $3 special allllllll day. I can't justify coming back here just for the drinks. The donuts, on the other hand, are good. When I'm in town I might go back for a donut. But my quest for the best, most consistent boba drink, continues. read more

Their ham/turkey and cheese croissant is huge and delicious. I like to drop by here right before I hop on the freeway for work in the morning. A very convenient location. Customer service is also great. It is always the same lady every morning who is very sweet. I have yet to try their drink/boba but I will soon; actually, maybe tomorrow morning. 4 stars for food and service. read more

I always get the ham and cheese croissant and iced coffee here and it's the best they make everything fresh daily! They have every kind of donuts available and are the most buttery tasty donuts I have tried definitely better than Krispy cream. The customer service Here is amazing and everybody that works here is very friendly !!! I definitely recommend not only that it is very sanitary and they follow all covid regulations! read more

The number of different beautiful baked goods to choose from makes you want to just spend all your money in this place to try them all. The service we had was also 10/10. The person we had was so kind and helpful. She was patient answering all of our questions and giving suggestions. She even found out it was my first time there and gave us a free sample. We got 3 cronuts, a ham & cheese croissant, a black sesame Vietnamese coffee, and a regular Vietnamese coffee. Everything was insanely good. I will say Vietnamese coffee is typically strong and sweet. It's nice here because you can control your sweet level, they have a whole sliding scale so as to make your coffee just right. I honestly cannot say enough good things about this place! Definitely when you have a chance check it out.

Clearly, Sweet Retreat has been doing something right, as it's been a Pacific Coast Highway favorite for a decade. Over the years, it has garnered recognition from plenty of local news outlets, from Eater LA to LAist. The cramped strip mall is more eye-catching for its reptile supply store rather than its donut shop. Inside the shop, the expansive, donut-themed cartoon mural to the right immediately makes a statement. Houseplants are plentiful across the otherwise undecorated, whitewashed walls. Donuts are organized on trays by price, with the charge doodled directly onto the glass with a white marker. Ambient noise from the television is drowned out by chattering customers and the buzzing coffee machine. During the summer months, the AC-less shop feels tropically balmy. My partner and I arrived at Sweet Retreat late one Sunday morning, and the shop still boasted a steady stream of customers. By the time of our visit, the remaining selection was regrettably slim -- beyond the standard fare, the most unique donuts sported either candy coating or tropical frosting. We opted for a hibiscus-frosted raised donut and an apple fritter. The former had an excellent donut base, and the hibiscus frosting was floral and tropical (albiet I would have enjoyed a more punchy flavor). Meanwhile, the apple fritter fell on the cinnamon-y side, heavily doused in glaze so that each bite (even the edges) melted in your mouth; Sweet Retreat's rendition was one of my favorites in Greater LA. Our Vietnamese iced coffee was strong and sugary, but nothing more memorable than peer coffeeshops. The service was efficient, and our two donuts cost a reasonable $5 (even frill-free mom-and-pop shops charge in this range nowadays). The selection was sorely lacking, but Sweet Retreat more than made up for that with its high quality and reasonable prices. This bakery may not warrant a dedicated trip out of the way, but it is sure to deliver a satisfying treat if you're already in the neighborhood.

The entrance had cardboard on the ground laid out like some sort of Oscar the Grouch red carpet. There were two people sitting at the middle two tables with portable shopping carts filled with assorted belongings. The interior matched the rest of neighborhood with random stuff laid out on counter tops, and a general dirty feeling that made me consider whether I wanted to buy food here, but I was already inside. There was a single woman working the counter. She was polite and matter of fact. I had promised my kids donuts, so I ordered my box to go. While she used appropriate tongs to put them in the box, she didn't bother to fully close or seal the box. Just looking to get out of there as quickly as possible, I headed immediately back to my car but was followed by an unknown man shouting at me asking if I could spare a dollar. I quickly fidgeted for my keys and pulled the door closed and locked it behind me. This was at 9am. I cannot imagine this place late at night.
