I am so sad that I wasn't the first to review Sunny Donuts. It took me this long because I didn't know what it was called. This place is right across from my place, which is one of the only reasons that I went over there and the fact that they have boba. Their Thai Tea boba is delicious. I have heard boba can be gross, but there's is delicious, whenever I have a hankering I go here. They have tasty fresh donuts that are made every morning. What's even better is that they have that pink like donut that you have probably seen on the Simpson's. Its actually very good and I convinced someone this morning to try one. Go here, you won't be sorry, they are very nice. The reason they get 4 stars is that there is a minimum $5 purchase for credit card usage and a .50 cent charge when you DO use a cc. Sunny Donuts is currently the best local spot to get boba around the Wrigley/California Heights area. With the old House of Boba on Pacific gone and the Boba Tea House on Willow on the West Side sucking really hard, this has been my go-to for my boba cravings. The boba here is well cooked - very tender and the signature tapioca chew without the hard, chalky core. The donuts here are pretty good. Not the best I've ever had, but not the worst by any stretch. The daily special will score you a dozen donuts for an honest $4.99. If there's any gripe I have with this place, it's how overly-sweet the boba-standard milk tea is. It's a bit odd, considering it's probably the most popular drink and because it's never really been a problem with any other drink I've ordered. If by chance you do order it, ask for it a bit less sweetened/watered down, or go for another option like the Thai iced tea instead. What I think enhances the quality of this spot and separates it from most others is the warm, hospitable female owner that you'll see here most days. Much like the goodies she has to offer, she's very sweet and gives you the great customer service that makes every trip a pleasant one. read more

This place is a little gem. I come here mainly for the ice blended boba drinks, but occasionally get the donuts too, which were good. The boba drinks are incredibly affordable ($~3.00-3.50), and the boba is always warm and chewy, despite being in an ice blended drink. I come here often enough and order the same thing that the nice lady that works here recognizes the drink I always get (regular size thai tea ice blended boba w/o whipped cream). Haven't been a 'regular' at a place that often, but its great to sip on one of their drinks while I drive my commute to LA. read more

I have always loved this donut shop for their Thai Iced tea over ice but today things changed due to the owners non-friendly ways. I stop in this morning on my way to church and ask for the famous Thai Ice Tea with a Egg/Cheese Croissant. The Lady brings up a Thai Ice Smoothie with my breakfast croissant. I look so confused and kindly asked if she still made the original Thai Ice Tea over ice that I usually get, she snaps back and says you ask for #7. I explained, No I asked for a Thai Ice Tea, the original way that you always make it like at the restaurants over ice, she got really upset and said this is what you asked for and I explained no I plainly said Thai Ice Tea w Boba, I never mentioned smoothie or #7. She said this time I make over for you but next time you need to say Thai Ice Tea not smoothie #7. I let her know, no problem I won't return if this is your reaction to me requesting the item I asked for. It's sad that after all these months of visiting she would be so inconsiderate to my request. I never even knew they had a Thai Tea smoothie because I never order off of the smoothie menu. Usually a business will acknowledge the error and kindly correct it, but this was not the case. I think the service in this shopping center is going downhill, it's not the same like it use to be like back in 2008 when I first moved in the area. My family and I love going to mom & pop shops to help local businesses so we decided to get some breakfast sandwiches and drinks today. There was no one in the store. My daughter placed her order and they never asked if anyone else in our party wanted anything. A few people came in after us and they took their orders ignoring my husband and son who were standing at the counter. My daughter told them that we were all together and they still continued to ignore us. We ended up walking out and going to Streelcraft down the street. Horrible customer service. It was one of the best taro bobas I've ever had and I have had LOTS of them! I also picked up a boston cream donut which was delicious.... But my main thing was the boba - surprisingly better than the "specialty" boba shops out there, seriously. Glad I stumbled into this place by accident. best thai tea! i've lived around this area for almost a year and i would usually drive to 7th street in LB for Cha for tea, but not any more! well, not for thai tea....they have thai tea with boba for $3, i usually pay around $4-5 for the same size in Cha for tea. unfortunately, their taro milk tea is way too sweet, hence, one less star. i work at 6:30am and when i pass by the store at 5:30am, they were open :) read more
