Located in the quaint Bixby Knolls neighborhood of Long Beach, street parking was plentiful right outside the restaurant. We came around noon on Saturday, and thankfully despite their busy brunch rush we were seated immediately. Even though all of their seating is outdoors, tables are shaded by overhanging canopy and just added to the cute southern Italian bistro vibes of the place. The menu had a solid selection of both brunch and lunch items - I loved the Burrata di Campagna, which was flavorful with just the right amount of tart from the heirloom tomatoes. For my main meal I had to go with the Casarecce - one of their pastas that's made fresh in house daily. The braided pasta was wonderfully textured and soaked up all the pesto sauce without being overly oily, a perfect meal for a hot summer day. We finished our meal with a Nutella Croissant, from their artisan bakery that also makes their bread fresh every day. Perhaps I am a little biased, but the laminated dough was perfectly light and flaky, encasing a very generous filling of hazelnut chocolate cream. Our check at the end of the meal even came with a custom drawn postcard by one of the Nonna Mercato service staff - another present to add on to what was already a gift of a meal!

It's shocking to see a restaurant that claims to be part of the community show absolutely no compassion when a family is dealing with an emergency. Charging someone after acknowledging a cancellation under those circumstances is unacceptable. This place clearly lacks the heart and humanity that a neighborhood business should have. I spoke with the restaurant manager Patrick after calling multiple times to speak with someone and he basically said he is not willing to refund the charge because they order food ahead of time. The food here is great but the service I received is awful.

Our favorite is the chocolate concha. It is crisp, fresh, and has the slightest sourdough flavor. I tried the dona one time and while it was great. It was just too much for me. Literally, we had to bring it home. I would suggest splitting this because of its size and it has a lot of almond and jam so it's hefty. I also tried their jamon which was sooooo good. I would get this again. For drinks we have tried their Atole, Dulce de Leche and Horchata with Cold Brew. My new favorite is the Horchata. It is so well complimented by the cold brew and it's so smooth and not too sweet. My husband also liked the taste he tried but he went with my now second favorite the Dulce de Leche. What I love about this place is that everything is balanced. Its not too much of anything just perfect. The concha isn't too sweet. It's balanced by the sourdough which is complex. The coffees which anywhere else would be a sugar bomb are just right. The sugar highlights the brilliance of whatever it is paired with whether that is bread or coffee.

I don't think the mini pie made it home lol. Today (#4 visit) I was craving the raspberry dream and wanted to try the apple pie. My current ranking of pie I've tried is: 1. Raspberry dream, 2. salted caramel, 3. White chocolate raspberry (cutie pie), 4. marionberry (nicely tart, full of berries but a bit dry, went well with ice cream), 5. whiskey peach (too much crust, not enough peach, not very peachy). The shop has some seating but I only saw one group seated once. I always took my pies home to enjoy. There is plenty of street parking (metered, 15 min free), and here is a parking structure around the back of the block (2 hours free).

On the positive side, the service was friendly, and the shop had a cozy atmosphere with board games available for customers to enjoy. Seating inside is limited, and parking can be a bit of a challenge.

I stopped in for a coffee and a side of bacon, and my total was almost $20. For such a simple order, that's hard to justify. I understand food costs have increased, but the pricing feels excessive compared to other local restaurants that serve quality food at much more reasonable prices. My biggest concern, however, is the impact the business has had on our neighborhood. Since Zuzu's Petals opened, we've noticed a significant increase in litter, much of it appearing to be food and drink packaging from the restaurant. Weekend traffic on the sidewalks has become overwhelming, customers often park in alleyways or in unsafe locations, and it has made our neighborhood much more difficult to navigate. We brought these concerns to an employee, but were told there wasn't much they could do. If this business truly wants to be part of the community, I hope they take more responsibility for the impact they're having on the surrounding neighborhood. Encouraging customers to park responsibly, helping keep the area clean, and offering more reasonably priced menu options would go a long way toward building goodwill with the people who actually live here. I always want local businesses to succeed, but right now I can't recommend Zuzu's Petals based on both my experience and the ongoing issues it's created for nearby residents. Also beach cleaning isn't cleaning our neighborhood. That's no support to our neighborhood. Maybe have a neighborhood clean up day instead.

FYI for anyone who doesn't like mayo--it doesn't say it on the menu (unless I totally missed it) but I think there was some mayo spread on the croissant. Just ask for it without it if needed! This parking lot can be sort of small and when it's really busy may be hard to park in, but there's a lot of street parking on the big cross streets if you're willing to walk a couple minutes.

Walking through the parking lot to the entrance along Long Beach Boulevard, it was easy to notice that the area was kept clean - both the parking lot and the drive-thru are spotless. Upon entering the front door we were greeted at the counter with a friendly 'how can I help you.' There were a few people on the inside picking up and finishing up their orders. Classic donut shop ambiance. Everything was clean and the display cases were filled with products. I was pretty sure I knew what I wanted, but I asked what their most popular items were. I noticed like most of the donut shops I've been to, they have a classic croissant ham and cheese as well as a great selection of freshly made donuts. My favorite is an apple fritter. We ordered coffee, a couple of croissants, ham and cheese and two apple fritters to go. As she was carefully packing our box to go she asked if we would like to try the cake glazed donut. What a nice surprise! They were fresh and still warm. As we were leaving there were some people coming in the door to pick up phone orders. There were a few people there for the peace and quiet with something to drink and a pastry. There is also a drive-up window that is very convenient along Long Beach Boulevard. Just look for the big donut! What a great experience and a cute place to discover near my appointments! I look forward to coming back and enjoying the friendly and helpful service as well as the clean and cozy donut shop atmosphere.

Just look for a giant donut that says Angel Food Donuts! I think it's cooler than Randy's famous giant donut and the donuts are way better than Randy's. They have a drive trough. You order on one side of the building and drive around the building to to opposite side to pick up and pay for your donuts. I went inside. It's a great, mom and pop donut shop that's been around for a long time. The prices are very reasonable and you can't go wrong with any donut you order. I am a donut aficionado and I think a donut must be worth both the price and the calories. Yes on both for Angel Food Donuts! The coffee is perfect donut shop coffee. There are a few tables if you want to eat inside. They also sell ham and cheese croissants that look pretty good. Also, all kinds of croissants and coffee drinks, tea, soft drinks. etc. I'm not 100% positive, but I think it's cash only. I paid cash anyway but I did see a sign that said cash only. Have your emergency cash donut money ready just in case!! The owners are super nice and charming. Please support this wonderful independent business!
