I've been on the search for a yummy açaí bowl to combat this summer heatwave and I was just in luck as I read that Granny's Donuts serves up some popular açaí. I made my way after my morning run to grab a bowl for my mom and I. I also grabbed a few donuts for my little brothers as requested. Here's the verdict: As I walked in the establishment I was immediately greeted by the friendly staff. Throughout my visit they were extremely sweet and friendly, I definitely appreciated the A1 customer service! The establishment was clean and up-kept. There were a few guests enjoying their pastries when I arrived which tells me that this happens to be a somewhat popular donut joint in the area. Apart from the two açaí bowls I ordered 2 chocolate sprinkle and 1 chocolate sprinkle glazed donut. My total came out to about $29 and some change which kind of took me back at first until I realized each bowl was $9.99. Fair price for the açaí but as I attempted to do the math in my head I realized the prices for the donuts seemed to be a little steep here compared to my local donut shop where I'm paying about $1-1.50 for a pastry. Either way the donuts did seem pretty fluffy and delectable so I'll see to judge the worthiness of the price point on my next visit. As far as the açaí bowl, goodness! The portion was huge compared to other establishments and I loved how the açaí wasn't overly sweet or melted fast either; it was just perfect! Besides blueberry they also offer strawberry and mango açaí as well! It's safe to say I've definitely found my latest foodie obsession which is the blueberry açaí bowl from Granny's Donuts! I can't speak for the other items on the menu but I definitely recommend this spot to anyone in search of a yummy açaí bowl!

Fresh, fluffy donuts during the early mornings. Owners are always polite and quick with their service. Parking lot in front of store is small and narrow. There's a larger lot further back. 50 cent charge for cards.

    Mango acai bowl. 4.5/5

Love Granny's! For one, it's CLEAN. Good customer service & the donuts are bomb! I don't eat them often, but when I do, I'm never unsatisfied. Today I got a mango acai bowl. 4.5/5. I think they used frozen blueberries & I didn't like the taste or texture too much. Overall the bowl was delish! They mixed the mango in the acai. However, the acai is a lighter color than what I'm used to so I'll ask about it next time. They also have breakfast sandwiches, fresh juices & other snacks.

Solid old school donut shop. Service was quick and friendly. Donuts were all old-school delish! Loved that they had 2 sizes of Apple Fritters. I paid about $16 for 2 specialty and 5/6 other donuts.

    Good crossiants

Good food and service. Not a long wait. Drinks and sandwiches made fresh. 10/10 Recommend

First impressions: walking into here smells like a dream... sugar and deep fried yumminess. I've been coming here since I was a pre-teen (I'm in my mid 30s now) where my family would stop by every Sunday after church. It's the same sweet family that greeted us with smiles and questions about our family every week. The epitome of family owned and operated and well known in the neighborhood Food: the best donuts ever and super fair pricing. I come here for amazing, well made donuts without all the frills. I know there's fancy donate places that sell $6 donuts... but this is where I go when I want familiar and comfy donuts. The glazed yeast donuts are my favorite. Sooo much better than Krispy Kreme because it's not too sweet so you can literally eat like 4 of them in a row. I also love the sugar yeast donuts. The French crueller are so soft and light with the perfect amount of icing. Maple bars are distinct in flavor (some donuts all taste the same regardless of icing flavor/color). Cream filled and raspberry filled glazed are also good... Apple bear claws are HUGE! Conclusion: Basically, I have tried every donut they have and can confidently recommend them all. They also have coffee, hot chocolate and other baked goods like croissants. Come support an amazing local, family owned spot!

Do you see what I see?

ALWAYS A 5 Star. These donuts are a little taste of heaven especially the glaze twist. It literally is the most soft and airy donut I have ever eaten. A must have every time I'm in town from Connecticut. I wish we had one!!!!

It's weird because I didn't think bad of the donuts themselves and could stand to eat them. Actual coffee and donuts are 3/5, though. Not bad but not great either. (The flavors are very, very mild.) Definitely overpriced for what you get (or maybe the mom and pop places are underpriced? And we need more whimsy in this world. Maybe that's all that matters. They definitely need a better menu system, though. 0/5 for the menu system because sharing single little laminated sheets with everyone in line is kinda ridiculous lol. (I have decision paralysis... And you don't even get access to the limited edition menu until you're at the front!) Am I dumb or do they not even have a menu on their website? It's also kinda crazy because everything else in the store is thoughtfully designed and placed but their menus are little laminated sheets resting flat on top of the donut display. Please fix that.

I was happily surprised to see that they carried some traditional donuts as well as the frosted themed ones! I found that this shop was related to Simones donuts which is a great business! They even do cookie tins and caramels. A couple of the special edition donuts looked so decadent and flavorful but more like a dessert that I commented. He then brought out for me one that was a brand new item and it sounded perfect- a sugar donut topped with strawberry mascarpone encircling a pandan center and I had to get it. He even let me have my themed matcha donut without the fancy little emblem for $1 less! So nice. Those, with a biscoff donut and a logo pin completed my purchase. The pandan topping was sweet but the mascarpone was reminiscent of a strawberry yogurt and the flavors blended perfectly. The other donuts were huge, fluffy and perfectly textured. I would have liked a stronger biscoff and matcha strawberry flavor in those crumbles but at least they were not sweet! Just delicious. The prices are fairly high but I will definitely stop by occasionally to see what delicious creations they are whipping up and get myself a treat!

The cramped strip mall is more eye-catching for its reptile supply store rather than its donut shop. Inside the shop, the expansive, donut-themed cartoon mural to the right immediately makes a statement. Houseplants are plentiful across the otherwise undecorated, whitewashed walls. Donuts are organized on trays by price, with the charge doodled directly onto the glass with a white marker. Ambient noise from the television is drowned out by chattering customers and the buzzing coffee machine. During the summer months, the AC-less shop feels tropically balmy. My partner and I arrived at Sweet Retreat late one Sunday morning, and the shop still boasted a steady stream of customers. By the time of our visit, the remaining selection was regrettably slim -- beyond the standard fare, the most unique donuts sported either candy coating or tropical frosting. We opted for a hibiscus-frosted raised donut and an apple fritter. The former had an excellent donut base, and the hibiscus frosting was floral and tropical (albiet I would have enjoyed a more punchy flavor). Meanwhile, the apple fritter fell on the cinnamon-y side, heavily doused in glaze so that each bite (even the edges) melted in your mouth; Sweet Retreat's rendition was one of my favorites in Greater LA. Our Vietnamese iced coffee was strong and sugary, but nothing more memorable than peer coffeeshops. The service was efficient, and our two donuts cost a reasonable $5 (even frill-free mom-and-pop shops charge in this range nowadays). The selection was sorely lacking, but Sweet Retreat more than made up for that with its high quality and reasonable prices. This bakery may not warrant a dedicated trip out of the way, but it is sure to deliver a satisfying treat if you're already in the neighborhood.

I left this place running for my car…read more The location is in a rough area of town, so while the donuts were edible, I felt compelled to issue a quick heads up warning for any unsuspecting newcomers. As I entered the parking lot I witnessed a lady hanging out of the window of a car missing a rear bumper, cursing at a minivan that looked like it had recently been involved in a series of hit-and-run crimes. I'm unclear what occurred before I got there, but kept my head down and quickly parked and scurried inside. The entrance had cardboard on the ground laid out like some sort of Oscar the Grouch red carpet. There were two people sitting at the middle two tables with portable shopping carts filled with assorted belongings. The interior matched the rest of neighborhood with random stuff laid out on counter tops, and a general dirty feeling that made me consider whether I wanted to buy food here, but I was already inside. There was a single woman working the counter. She was polite and matter of fact. I had promised my kids donuts, so I ordered my box to go. While she used appropriate tongs to put them in the box, she didn't bother to fully close or seal the box. Just looking to get out of there as quickly as possible, I headed immediately back to my car but was followed by an unknown man shouting at me asking if I could spare a dollar. I quickly fidgeted for my keys and pulled the door closed and locked it behind me. This was at 9am. I cannot imagine this place late at night. The donuts were basic and not overly sweet, more of a fried bread. My kids ate a few bites of each but it wasn't worth the stress of getting them.

Donuts were good and didn't taste day old as she filled the boxes when I got there.
