The donut shop smelled burnt, like they recently burnt something. I got a regular glazed (my favorite), it was pretty good! The donut was messy though, the glaze kept falling off everywhere. Still pretty good!

Maple Bar is okay. 3 stars

Stumbled upon Winny's Donut House while walking from the medical buildings across the street. Was hoping to find a donut shop close by, and I got lucky to find them. Good friendly service with a smile. Felt very welcomed when I stepped into their shop. They were popular that Monday morning. There were a couple of tables to dine at, and they were all occupied by customers. I'm guessing they get a lot of regulars here. I had a craving for French Cruller donuts. Unfortunately, they had none. So, I settled on a Maple Bar and a Boston Creme donut. Maple Bar tasted alright. Custard Filled Chocolate was delicious. The first third of the donut I finished had no custard. After that, though, it was oozing with yummy custard filling!! Overall, it was a good first time experience. Recommend you stop by if you are in the area craving donuts.

Chocolate glazed donut. Wooo!

We needed our donut fix, stat! This was around the area so we checked this spot out. AMBIANCE: Parking: A pretty big parking plaza with some other eateries and a gym. We didn't find any issues here. Seating: Inside seating generally for pairs but due to the pandemic, all outside seating. Feels: Lakewood isn't a popping spot but this place seems like a local favorite. The spot itself is nothing too fancy. Just good visuals of food and drinks. Great to catch a quick break and chill or grab and go. FOOD: Chocolate Glazed Donut (Recommend) Delicious! Sweet, soft, and chewy. I appreciated this donut. A simple order that delivers. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Great! Friendly people and quick service. TL; DR OVERALL: 4.5 Stars. This is not a glamorous donut shop but a simple small owned grit and grind type of work. Great selections, reasonable prices, and delicious donuts. I dig this spot and wouldn't mind coming back here if I'm in the area. #SupportAPIBusinesses TIPS: * They make customized donuts!

4. Sausage Egg and Cheese Croissant

I got a sausage egg and cheese croissant with a Vietnamese iced coffee. Sooo good. And the owners were so friendly. Will def be back again.

Turkey bacon sandwich on a croissant. Super good.

Great donuts, super friendly staff, their fresh squeezed OJ, breakfast sandwiches, and croissants are really awesome!

Would probably give this place a 4.5, but I'll round up to a 5 because the character donuts are sooo cute! I thought this place would just have adorable donuts that are okay, but these donuts are delicious. They are light and fluffy, sweet, but not too sweet. The prices aren't too bad - half a dozen is $6, but the panda is an extra $0.80 and the unicorn donut is $2.50. I probably wouldn't get the unicorn again, but the panda is delicious and adorable. I also got an assortment of glaze (delicious), old fashioned maple (incredible), chocolate bar (good), and another donut I can't remember. In total, my half dozen box came out to $9.75. They no longer operate on an ATM system (although if your order is less than $7, they'll charge you an extra 0.75 for credit card/debit card transactions). The interior is clean, and they also provide a variety of coffee and blended ice drinks. Interestingly, they also have soups and sandwiches! Would definitely come here again - I get emotional just thinking about how cute the character donuts are. Everyone there is super nice and friendly - they have great customer service.

Whinny's new store front!

Winny's Donut House has moved only about 200 feet from their old location. Their NEW location is much cleaner and nicer than the old. I think the donuts and sandwiches have gotten even better...if that's possible. Don't waste your time and money spending four bucks at Starbucks, which is across the plaza fWinny's at their old location. Winny's coffee and pastries are SO MUCH better. I hope my review has been of some help to you. Have a great day! The landlord of this property is currently performing some major construction around all the businesses located in this plaza. Don't let that stop you from enjoying the great donuts, pastries and sandwiches that Whinny's has to offer.

Yummy!

Back again with these yummy donuts. Wasn't too busy but there were 2 people ahead of me.. 6am that's busy for me lol. Got half a dozen and coffee. The young man that works there is sweet. He said it gets busier later around 8 or 9. So get there early or you'll miss out!

Winny, you relentless temptress, I have driven by you so many times but resisted the urge to stop and sample your donutty goodness. But my willpower finally came to an end. I walked into this tiny donut shop and got an old fashioned, the bellwether I judge any old school donut shop by. It was fresh and delicious and passed the test. A small box I brought to work were enjoyed by everyone; the other donuts I tasted were quite good as well. Prices are okay - a bit under a dollar per donut (CASH ONLY) - and the women working here are all smiles.

I ordered several donuts and specifically asked the employee whether the specialty donuts counted toward a dozen. She told me that I would "just pay the difference," but never explained that ordering by the dozen would have actually been cheaper or that I was essentially paying for a dozen but only got 10 donuts. After I paid in cash and even tipped her, she casually told me, "Oh, you could've gotten two free donuts." I asked if I could still get the two donuts since I had already paid enough to qualify, and she responded, "maybe next time." That response was incredibly frustrating and honestly poor customer service. If I already paid enough to qualify for the dozen pricing, why wouldn't the employee explain it beforehand or simply honor it when I asked immediately afterward? Instead, I was told only after the transaction was complete, and then denied the items anyway. It felt misleading, unhelpful, and unnecessarily petty over two donuts. Small businesses survive on repeat local customers and goodwill, and this experience completely lost mine. There won't be a next time.

Actual coffee and donuts are 3/5, though. Not bad but not great either. (The flavors are very, very mild.) Definitely overpriced for what you get (or maybe the mom and pop places are underpriced? Much to think about). Anyways, I don't trust donut shops that can't even nail their basics lol. My friend bit into his chocolate donut and immediately made the saddest face I've ever seen. Not in a ratatouille way, but like... the taste and texture disturbed him somehow. I still recommend this place because it's cute and whimsical and supports artists. Kids will love this place! And we need more whimsy in this world. Maybe that's all that matters. They definitely need a better menu system, though. 0/5 for the menu system because sharing single little laminated sheets with everyone in line is kinda ridiculous lol. (I have decision paralysis... And you don't even get access to the limited edition menu until you're at the front!) Am I dumb or do they not even have a menu on their website? It's also kinda crazy because everything else in the store is thoughtfully designed and placed but their menus are little laminated sheets resting flat on top of the donut display. Please fix that.

And I appreciate that it's not at the expense of the quality of the donut. Their biscoff crumb donut is so satisfying and non-greasy, just how I always wanted my donuts to be. I also have been here during their Animal Crossing event, where you can buy cute stationary from artists, and a fundraiser for immigrant rights. I loooove how they also engage the community and use their platform for good. This place is a wonderful gem of the Long Beach community.

A very welcoming vibe upon entry, we were greeted by a friendly couple who answered our questions about popular drink flavors. Tons of board games, books and wonderfully mellow music helps make the experience feel comforting and inviting. Our drinks were prepared quickly and shouted at the coffee bar for pickup. The presentation was great, but the flavors, out of this world! The Cinnamon Dulce Latte was OUTSTANDING. So good, in fact, that my girlfriend stole it from me! Not to worry, her Blueberry Lavender Latte was also top-notch, with a smooth, not-to-sweet flavor combination. At Long Beach's Sweet Retreat Donuts, that meant limited-edition experimental donut varieties (mostly with tropical flavor profiles), as well as a reliable vegan donut lineup. Clearly, Sweet Retreat has been doing something right, as it's been a Pacific Coast Highway favorite for a decade. Over the years, it has garnered recognition from plenty of local news outlets, from Eater LA to LAist. The cramped strip mall is more eye-catching for its reptile supply store rather than its donut shop. Inside the shop, the expansive, donut-themed cartoon mural to the right immediately makes a statement. Houseplants are plentiful across the otherwise undecorated, whitewashed walls. Donuts are organized on trays by price, with the charge doodled directly onto the glass with a white marker. Ambient noise from the television is drowned out by chattering customers and the buzzing coffee machine. During the summer months, the AC-less shop feels tropically balmy. My partner and I arrived at Sweet Retreat late one Sunday morning, and the shop still boasted a steady stream of customers. By the time of our visit, the remaining selection was regrettably slim -- beyond the standard fare, the most unique donuts sported either candy coating or tropical frosting. We opted for a hibiscus-frosted raised donut and an apple fritter. The former had an excellent donut base, and the hibiscus frosting was floral and tropical (albiet I would have enjoyed a more punchy flavor). Meanwhile, the apple fritter fell on the cinnamon-y side, heavily doused in glaze so that each bite (even the edges) melted in your mouth; Sweet Retreat's rendition was one of my favorites in Greater LA. Our Vietnamese iced coffee was strong and sugary, but nothing more memorable than peer coffeeshops. The service was efficient, and our two donuts cost a reasonable $5 (even frill-free mom-and-pop shops charge in this range nowadays). The selection was sorely lacking, but Sweet Retreat more than made up for that with its high quality and reasonable prices. This bakery may not warrant a dedicated trip out of the way, but it is sure to deliver a satisfying treat if you're already in the neighborhood.

As I entered the parking lot I witnessed a lady hanging out of the window of a car missing a rear bumper, cursing at a minivan that looked like it had recently been involved in a series of hit-and-run crimes. I'm unclear what occurred before I got there, but kept my head down and quickly parked and scurried inside. The entrance had cardboard on the ground laid out like some sort of Oscar the Grouch red carpet. There were two people sitting at the middle two tables with portable shopping carts filled with assorted belongings. The interior matched the rest of neighborhood with random stuff laid out on counter tops, and a general dirty feeling that made me consider whether I wanted to buy food here, but I was already inside. There was a single woman working the counter. She was polite and matter of fact. I had promised my kids donuts, so I ordered my box to go. While she used appropriate tongs to put them in the box, she didn't bother to fully close or seal the box. Just looking to get out of there as quickly as possible, I headed immediately back to my car but was followed by an unknown man shouting at me asking if I could spare a dollar. I quickly fidgeted for my keys and pulled the door closed and locked it behind me. This was at 9am. I cannot imagine this place late at night. The donuts were basic and not overly sweet, more of a fried bread. My kids ate a few bites of each but it wasn't worth the stress of getting them.
