Excellent experience with Ben as our server and an all around adept restaurant crew. We started with bread, olives and cheese. Second course, their butternut squash soup (with pomegranate seeds? interesting). We then did a series of tapas, including the Brussels sprouts, beets, and mushroom dishes. By this point I was quite full, but desert had to be had. We asked for Ben's recommendation and as he was sharing his favorite everyone in the kitchen was yelling out "bread pudding!" We could not say no, and we were glad we didn't. Each of these courses was paired with a beverage. I started with an old fashioned, which was of the best old fashioned's I've ever had. Then moved on to wine, since this is one of their specialties. There were five different pairings, generous half pours: pinot noir, rose (best I've ever had), a bold red blend (syrah, grenache, and another), and two delicious ports--red and white--with the bread pudding). A fun tour. The vibe is cozy-hip. They had what sounded like OUR Mayer Hawthorne pandora station playing. We were swaying to all tunes. Make reservations or try your chance at luck. Service was great. The soup was really good as well. We were disappointed in how dry and tough the beef was in the braised beef dish. Sadly, it seemed like the beef was reheated. The chocolate tort for dessert was spot on. read more

This place seriously needs to fix its front of house. Mountain town service is often lackluster, because everybody would rather be out getting after it, but at New York prices and average food, this sort of service really tanks the experience. read more

Mind-blowing experience. The food at the Sunflower is sourced as locally as possible, and has so much thought, love and passion behind it, you'll taste it in every single bite. GO ahead and lick your plates, we did!! Seriously, the vibe, the staff, the atmosphere, the food, are all five stars. Incredible dining experience. We travel and eat around the world for work, and this place is definitely in the top ten. We always recommend this place to friends and family and they only rave about their experiences. Creative farm-to-table establishment in the middle of Crested Butte. This is not just a breakfast and brunch place. We visited with another couple for dinner in mid-January and enjoyed several selections from a lovely tapas-style menu. There are also 4-5 large plate entrees. The "barnyard" meatballs were delicious wish a touch of heat. Best dish was the striped bass entree, creatively presented with a tasty slaw. Try this place, it's great. read more

Favorite breakfast spot in CB. We love the sunflower for dinner and were so excited to hear about the breakfast & lunch offering! The menu is well done, with a thoughtful variety of food options (without going over the top) we really love the toasts and the grilled cheese (so good!). We ate there on the weekend and had to wait in line (to be expected at any breakfast place it seems) but the garden out back was totally worth the wait. My husband and I each had breakfast cocktails that were delicious. We also learned from our server that they bake all the bread in-house - it was SO good! Highly recommend giving this new little spot a chance, enjoy a cocktail and maybe a tartine and you won't regret it! read more

You can just look at the food and tell there is something special here. We have been slowly working our way through the menu. The house bread is soft and chewy with a good crisp crust, the bacon is huge and out of this world, o.j. Fresh squeezed...everything is awesome. This is a review of the BRUNCH/LUNCH at Sunflower. The DINNER restaurant is owned by another couple and it is always amazing. We arrived on a busy day and didn't expect things to go fast (they never do at Sunflower in the mornings). But, we didn't expect a very rude server. After waiting for a table for 30 minutes, we waited 10 minutes for menus (I finally got up and got them myself) and then waited 35 minutes for a avocado toast that was on bread that wasn't toasted with a cold poached egg on top. The table next to us left because their food never came (I suspect said waitress never put the order in as they waited over an hour). Discussion around our table was that if you have the sever with green hair (it's really cool) then she will take forever to get menus, silverware (we got our own) and your food will take forever. She got very rude and said "I don't make the food!" And slammed our plates down on the table. The nice woman next to us said "I've never had a cold poached egg before." read more

Our dinner at The Sunflower was by far the best meal we had in Crested Butte. Not only was the food top notch so was the service and ambiance. I was given a gift certificate by my cousin in Chicago. She knew we were going to CB on a hiking trip. We live in SC. She called the restaurant and talked to Natalie the owner and arranged to have the gift sent to her in Chgo and then sent it on to me. When we arrived in CB we went to the restaurant to make a reservation. Natalie just so happened to be at the front desk and when I said I wanted to make the reservation and I had a gift card from my cousin she knew right away who I was, my name and my cousins name. She was so sweet. When we arrived on the night of the reservation she gave us the best table in the house - on the balcony overlooking the kitchen. What a surprise it was to see Natalie as the chef. She saw us and immediately acknowledged us in such a warm and friendly way that it made us feel really good. We got to watch her in action. Every plate that came out of her kitchen was beautiful. Our dinner was delicious. We had a starter, a salad and two small plates. These small plates were larger than most restaurants regular size dinners. The food was absolutely outstandingly delicious. Oof I wanted to give this place a good review! I had such high hopes! However, it is very overpriced and the food strives to be fancy, but falls way short. If they didn't have decent service, I would have given it two stars. The food was that bad. The only things done well here were the nibblers, like olives and cheese, which did not have to be cooked. First off, cocktails were $20! $20?! Standard price is $12-14, even at other places in CB, so that was ridiculous. Then the small plates...$25! A standard small plate tapa is $8-14. These were not even good! We tried the ono (Hawaiian fish)...very dry and tough, not flaky at all. and zero flavor. Served with sprouts and lentils that were also not tasty and overpowered by the red onion flavor. Then we had a red pepper & feta stuffed ravioli in a brown butter sauce. I didn't taste brown butter at all. It should be sweet & savory. I just tasted butter. And the stuffing was overpowered by the red pepper and did not pair well with the sauce. Two small plates, two cocktails, and three nibblers was $115. Ridiculous! Truthfully this place needs to learn how to choose better sides to pair with dishes, how to pair complementary flavors, how to cook fish, and to charge reasonable prices for food. Overhyped and way too expensive! Look elsewhere for a nice dinner in CB! read more

Dinner was delicious, though overpriced (both for what was served and where it was served). Absolutely amazing. Long, long list of locally sourced food and a daily menu created with whatever they are getting fresh. Small space inside but back patio is very comfortable with heat lamps and blankets if the nights get chilly. Service was wonderful. Very helpful with suggestions. Three of us shared a mushroom risotto (wonder and creamy), pork belly and grits (again wonderful) and a seared tuna that was phenomenal. Sesame seeds and 2 different sauces that were tasty and fresh.
