Brick chicken with fresh greens and butter noodles
    Jamie S.

We enjoyed our meal here. The skirt steak was cooked nicely but it was cut on the grain which makes it chewy. I had to look at each piece in order to cut it against the grain so it would be tender. It definitely was tasty though. Hubby's brick chicken was crispy on the outside, but was slightly overcooked so that it was drier on the inside. Brick chicken is designed to be cooked so that it is crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. They missed the mark on that, but it was still tasty. The butter noodles were perfectly cooked and made a great accompaniment to our dishes. The asparagus also added to the overall flavor combination. We have dined here before and really enjoyed the experience. This time the menu choices didn't appeal to us as much but that's just our taste. We sat on the patio the last time and this time we sat inside. The acoustics were so that we often had a hard time hearing each other as the table next to us had six people who were talking loudly (and having a great time...good on them). It's a small area, so it's difficult to avoid this issue. Overall, we would go back but would advise perusing the online menu and considering dining al fresco if the weather is right and you want to enjoy conversations.

    Squid Ink pasta

Someone is a genius. This menu is fire. Food was excellent. Squid ink pasta was very good. Let's talk about griddled feta. What?! I could eat that daily! Service was great. Restaurant was a fun environment. One more thing...fried angel food cake is better than you could even imagine. Wowza!

Easily the best restaurant in Gunnison. High quality, local food, great cocktails, and amazing service. We love it every time we go.

This is about as good as it gets in Gunnison, and that's saying quite a bit because there are…read moreseveral very nice restaurants here. The wine list is very nice, and you won't break the bank -- especially at happy hour, with two dollars off each glass of wine between 5 and 7 PM. We had the House Malbec, from Mendoza, Argentina, and it had a delicious flavor and aroma. It was a full bodied and smooth, dark red offering. For an appetizer, we had the Shishati grilled peppers with pesto/cilantro sauce, and they were just fantastic. They are mild, nicely grilled, and beautifully presented. It is served as an appetizer, but please be warned, one out of every nine peppers is exceedingly hot. We had about 12 peppers, and all of them were mild, so we beat the odds! I've had hamburgers all over the world, and I can honestly say I have not had a better cheeseburger than I got right here from the menu at Blackstock. It's in a traditional bun, lightly toasted, with tempura, onion, cracked pepper, mayo, Tabasco, candied and smoked bacon, and it is served with Hand-cut fries. You can add guacamole for a dollar, or blue cheese or Gruyere cheese for another dollar. But I did not add a thing; it was perfect as it came out of the kitchen for me! You will be asked how you want your hamburger cooked, and I chose medium. It could not have been better! It's on the menu at a very fair $21 including your hand-cut fries. My lovely dinner-date had the petite filet mignon, a 5-ounce offering of spectacular steak, served with goat cheese, potato croquettes, asparagus, stewed shallots, served with a Cabernet Demi glaze at $45. It was a large serving, I believe bigger than 5 ounces, because we are taking half of it home in a to-go box! Again, the food was spectacular... really good. We will finish with the flourless chocolate torte, serve with whipped cream and Amarina dark cherries at $11. If I was a betting man, I'd say you're gonna love this place! Take a few pictures, do what I did, and leave a review, because more people need to know the quality of food coming out of this little storefront on a busy street in Gunnison! And if you ask for Danielle, be advised, he's a great server and you will get exactly what you need! He's very attentive, and charming.

We stopped by on Saturday around 6 PM and the manager was so kind to help us put a larger table together. We only waited about 10 minutes. Our server was so sweet. I don't remember her name, but she was extremely knowledgeable about all the cocktails -- and there are many. It's one thing to memorize the ingredients, but quite another to understand flavor, profiles, textures, substitutions, etc. she really knows her stuff and was great at making recommendations. We tried a number of different cocktails, including the Headhunter, Xanadu, London press, lemon ginger NA, and poco loco. Personally, I had the headhunter and Poco Loco. The headhunter was yummy, but not special enough to order again. The Poco Loco, however, was unique and delicious with the habanero infusion so present and the foamy top giving it a melt in your mouth texture. It's pretty warm in there as they have no AC and no fans to circulate the air and it is still summer, plus drinking makes you hotter, so we were a little sweaty, but This is of course, a very temporary feeling as the area does not stay this hot for long. Absolutely can't wait to come back

My wife and I ate dinner here recently. We probably didn't look the part as we were mostly in town…read moreto hike the next day, but we are seasoned diners. Let's start with the very good. The gazpacho was top notch, fresh and had bright color and flavor. My wife's filet was cooked perfectly with great texture on outside and tender on the inside. I ordered the Colorado lamb sirloin. It was hard to cut through...was it the slightly tough texture or the non-serrated knife (asked for serrated, restaurant did not have)? I think a little of both. I ordered the chimichurrie to go with the lamb. It came in a cute white ceramic vessel shaped a little like an hourglass with an narrow waist and flared bottom and top. At the top, you could see bright green liquid oil without any of the obvious other chunky ingredients of chimichurri. Ahh, you might think that the next step would be to stir it with a small spoon (often paired with the traditional small ramekin of chimichurri)... alas, no small utensils, just our dinnerware. Not only that, but I generously thought that this fine establishment fully intended to present this as their new twist on chimichurri. Not wanting to complain, I sheepishly drizzled the green oil onto my lamb and made the best of it. Only on my last bites of lamb did I discover belatedly that the dressing had separated and discovered the bright greens and garlic layered densely at the bottom. Two take home messages. Future diners: remember to shake the chimi! Elk Ave Prime: if you are going to charge $7 for a sauce, improve your execution so your customers can fully appreciate your culinary skills.
