This was our second time coming here and we so want to love it but have left somewhat disappointed both times. The corn dogs were slightly burnt (in our opinion) but the flavor was very good, we would order again. However I think the chips are a miss....just serve them without them and charge a little less in my opinion, they aren't needed. We liked both sauces. The potatoes we originally ordered with the fried egg but the server forgot (she was very apologetic) and got one out to us after a few mins. The egg honestly did nothing to the dish. We wish the potatoes were crispier for sure but the garlic aoli was good. However, we prob wouldn't order it again. The masa cakes were good, I would order again but nothing mind blowing. Overall it was just ok. I think what kind of set our decision to probably not return is the fact that a table near us had asked the server something (we aren't exactly sure what) and she took their dish back and then proceeded to talk crap about them in the server/kitchen area. My husband said the table didn't hear her but I don't know how they didn't as she was talking very loudly about how "my tables are so annoying today! The things people ask for are crazy" (etc) and it made me really uncomfortable. I used to be a server and can understand frustrations with customers but it was unprofessional to talk crap about them when other customers can hear. read more

What an unexpected treat. We were headed to the brewery across the way that was closed for maintenance, when we looked up and thought let's try it. Well Kate took care of us and it was clear she has thought through the menu. We enjoyed the marinated goat cheese and the zucchini blossom cakes as well as the unique take on chili relleno (with nasturtium!) before diving into the grilled octopus that rivaled the same dish we've had many times in in Portugal. Do you know what I hate? When I arrange childcare and then I go on an extremely rare night out with my husband, only to eat food of uninspired quality which fills my belly, but leaves me upset about how much I spent for a Cracker Barrel-esque experience. For these reasons, and for the fact that this has been my experience in the past, oh, 10 times I've tried, I had given up. This morning, my husband suggested that we eat at a restaurant alone, together. Now, maybe your life is much more exciting than mine, but this is pretty out there for a weekday night for our family. I reluctantly agreed and we went to 1880 for dinner. As soon as we walked in the door, the beautiful hostess/server, Val, gave us an award-winning smile and seated us promptly. We started ordering food and drinks and out comes one fantastic thing after another. We had the grilled feta and the masa pockets for starters. The feta was, as all the other reviewers have mentioned, wonderful . But the MASA pockets. THE MASA POCKETS!!! These things tasted like Jackie Chan kicked a bag of Fritos in the face, sprinkled fairy dust and unicorn horns on it, and then put it on a plate for me. It came two to an order and I think I could've eaten 77. Unbelievably delicious. So I'm thinking, maybe this is gonna go OK. Then we shared a toro smash burger and a squid ink pasta. The burger had to be the best burger I have ever eaten in my life and, y'all, I eat a lot of burgers. I am a burger aficionado. I'm one of those crazy people that drives across the country to eat at top-rated burger joints. Anyway, that burger truly has ruined burgers for me (I promptly told all my young'ns that I've got to take them to eat the best burger I've ever eaten- pronto). And the squid ink pasta, wow. It had so much going on that I felt like it was the equivalent of leopard print and pearls. I have no idea how this is all working together, but somehow it's magic. All in all, I want to thank l Val and the whole staff at 1880. You all have restored my faith in restaurants. We'll be back- save us a table. read more

We enjoyed our meal here. The skirt steak was cooked nicely but it was cut on the grain which makes it chewy. I had to look at each piece in order to cut it against the grain so it would be tender. It definitely was tasty though. Hubby's brick chicken was crispy on the outside, but was slightly overcooked so that it was drier on the inside. Brick chicken is designed to be cooked so that it is crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. They missed the mark on that, but it was still tasty. The butter noodles were perfectly cooked and made a great accompaniment to our dishes. The asparagus also added to the overall flavor combination. We have dined here before and really enjoyed the experience. This time the menu choices didn't appeal to us as much but that's just our taste. We sat on the patio the last time and this time we sat inside. The acoustics were so that we often had a hard time hearing each other as the table next to us had six people who were talking loudly (and having a great time...good on them). It's a small area, so it's difficult to avoid this issue. Overall, we would go back but would advise perusing the online menu and considering dining al fresco if the weather is right and you want to enjoy conversations. read more

We had a wonderful dinner here last night! It was my first time in - we loved the space when it was twisted fork - but love this tapas menu even more! If you like bone marrow - order it earlier on while you're deciding on the rest of your order (it's amazing - highly recommend). We had the bacon wrapped dates (three to an order) which were delicious. Next to come out was the masa cakes - which had Mahon cheese, chorizo and bacon - they are very thin but pack quite a flavor punch! The drunken pork was also quite tasty (three to an order) and came with a bunch of avocado on top. The steak and cheese is a must order - it comes open-face style on a piece of texas toast - and a big knife to cut it with (surprisingly easy to divide up between the group once you cut into pieces). It was so good, we ordered a second one (would also note there were 6 of us). The shrimp was also good. The grilled octopus was delicious - and comes with a garlic aioli and smashed potatoes. We also had the roasted beets which were really good (great flavor). The last savory dish we ordered was the smashed burger - it was delicious! Also worth mentioning is the wine list - we had a bottle of priorat which was great. For dessert we had the angel food cake, the basque cheesecake and the banana pudding - the pudding was my favorite (think old school vanilla wafers, whipped cream and pudding!) our server was also wonderful - checked on us multiple times as we added on more food! We will definitely be back to try more of the menu! read more
