What a lovely, cozy, unique experience!! We went here on a slightly rainy evening and were seated outside. Their patio is very cute and we were protected from the rain by a large umbrella and kept warm by the blankets they kindly provide at the table. Our group ordered almost everything and passed it around the table so everyone could have a taste. With such unique and delicious dishes this was a great way to sample everything! The stand outs were the: Small plates - Burrata and Broccolini Plates - The Pork chop was the best I've ever had! Every single thing we put in our mouths were fantastic! We shared a bowl of eggplant-based soup, an apple-cabbage salad, fresh burrata with squash, beef tenderloin, a chocolate-orange torte, and two cocktails: suit up (omg so good!) and an old fashion (super smooth). Extremely Disappointing and Uncomfortable Experience My husband and I visited Sunflower with another couple on a Saturday evening a few weeks ago for dinner and drinks. We were seated in the back, enclosed outdoor section, where only one other table was occupied. Our server was friendly at first and explained a bit about the restaurant after learning it was our first time there. My husband and I decided to keep it simple -- just water and the sweet corn soup -- while our friends ordered alcoholic drinks and a charcuterie board. The moment we ordered, the server's attitude noticeably changed. She told us, "You need to try the Sunflower Experience," which we politely declined. A short while later, after the other table had left and we were the only ones seated in that area, a man approached our table and said, verbatim, "We're not feeling your vibe -- this is not that type of establishment. We'll need you to leave." At first, we thought he was joking. When we realized he wasn't, we were shocked and left immediately. It was humiliating, confusing, and frankly, unacceptable. I can't say for certain why we were asked to leave, but my friend and I had been speaking Spanish earlier in the evening, and it's hard not to wonder if that played a role. Regardless of the reason, no guests should ever be treated this way. We came expecting to enjoy a nice evening with friends -- instead, we left feeling disrespected, unwelcome and discriminated. read more

Went with a group of 4 of us in town for a guys weekend ski trip. Just AMAZING farm to table, multiple amazing dishes, server Ben was so good, personable and we'd go back anytime. This is my all time favorite restaurant in CB. Their menu is constantly changing depending on the seasonality of local farms. My favorite dish is their bolognese. And make sure you order dessert! Their carmel pot is out of this world. It's scrumptious! Make reservations early. They have indoor and outdoor seating. Going on a date night? 8/29/25. LOUD! Plan on shouting your conversation! Went to this restaurant with great expectations after reading reviews to celebrate our anniversary. Service was very good. Our waiter was pleasant, knowledgeable, and offered guidance about the menu. The food was very good , and beautifully presented. What could have been a wonderful evening was ruined by extremely loud unpleasant music! The table next to ours had 8 young ladies that requested the music be turned down, but said the staff "Blew them off". Then we requested the music be turned down, and they turned it down a little. and the guests actually clapped. At the end of our meal I told our waiter how much we enjoyed the food and service. I said it could have been a much better experience if we could have carried on a conversation. He said that was their "vibe", and that it helped keep the staff "pumped". That's a pizza joint "vibe" not a farm to table restaurant that you pay good money for. read more

Great ambiance but was absolutely taken advantage of here. Our server, after asking if it was our first time in, advised us that the menu is FAMILY STYLE. The food was good. The server was good. The owner Chris, is the rudest restaurant owner I have ever encountered. We showed up for our reservation with friends who have come to this restaurant for the past 6 years. We rode bikes (as you should in CB) and had roadies with us. We were seated for our reservation and the owner rudely grabed our drinks out of our hands and discarded them. After spending $500 for dinner we walked to our bikes to go to the next place and Chris ran out after us to scold us again for having drinks with us when we arrived. I tried to explain the situation and he aggressively stuck his hand 3 inches from my face. To be honest I thought he was going to hit me. While I think the place has charm, the food is good (although crazy expensive for what they serve), I'll never be back and be sure to tell everyone I know not to spend money with such a rude and disconnected restauranteur. read more

Not the best experience. We actually changed our reservations and sat at a small table in the cold rain, because we heard such amazing things about sunflower and it's food. Sitting down we ordered A few appetizers and a main course. We ordered a pasta dish and when it came out it was OK. Then the main dish came out which was a braised beef dish, my husband and I each took a bite of it and quietly spit it out, it was so tough it was inedible. This is an excellent restaurant! One of the best meals and experiences we have ever had. I saw 2 reviews with a single star and they were laughable and flat out incorrect. Ignore them. The place is a small cute and cozy environment, elegant in the crested butte way. Our seating was at 6:15. Servers and kitchen staff dressed in quirky attire, made the place even more memorable. But the food was the star attraction. Small plates with a variety of flavors and textures. And not that small either. My wife and I shared 3 plus the Nibbles and a cup of soup and that was sufficient. Nibbles by the way, not as the one reviewer lied and said $6 for 4 olives. Shame on you. 14 olives and 4 types and great. The seared tuna with eggplant sauces and chips and "handles" was amazing. The duck, great. Butternut squash risotto was sweet and perfectly cooked. And the soup, corn cilantro cream was great too. Presentation was beautiful and brought out by passionate kitchen staff who explained each dish. Truly a great dinner. read more

We ate here and had such a wonderful experience. The venue is beautiful, intimate and cozy. Our server was attentive, helpful with recommendations and very kind. The food was phenomenal. We had a party of four and opted to try almost everything on the small plate menu, plus desserts. It was wonderful to split everything and each dish was better than the rest. Favorites were the meatballs and anchovies. Lastly, we forgot a package for our daughter at the end of dinner when it was under the table and we left it. I contacted the restaurant and asked if they could help ship it to us (it was nostalgic for my husband and I) and they not only found it, but shipped it to us. Sunflower was our favorite meal of our trip. The owners are fantastic. From the moment we arrived, we felt very welcome. They were casual and fun. To say we loved this meal would be an understatement. Their mission is to use food from local farmers, which they highlight on their menu. It is I'm sure very difficult at times, but their commitment is there. The food is bright and beautiful and they cook the meals to highlight the natural flavors of the food. They change their menu to reflect what is in season and what they are able to percure from their farmers. Notably their two soups were just perfect (they gave us a cup of each) and their beets, risotto, black cod and romanesco were all delicious. We had three desserts and they all were fresh and light. The patrons next to us had a salad that just looked beautiful. Chris was so fun in helping us try a few different cordials with our desserts and to offer a half glass of a particular wine by the glass. He also recommended an amazing bottle that wasn't based on price, but instead based on our preferences. The wine list was very complete. This is how we should be eating folks....whole foods, unadulterated food that supports local farmers. I so wish I had gone earlier in the trip because I think I may have eaten here every night if I could've snagged more reservations. The food is well prepared farm to table fare and that gets them a second star as most of dishes we had were well prepared and only a couple were lackluster like the undercooked fish and the pasta. We waited 2 months for a reservation that you have to do by text. Unfortunately the $150 per person price plus the random add on CC fee and the minimum $40 pp tip simply don't justify the price that they actively try to obscure by bringing you more food than you want. The capstone was the owner being an ass to my 80 year old mother as we were leaving. You're better off pretty much anywhere else in town as both Elk Avenue Prime and Soupçon offer similar premium experience at a better value. Take your $200 - $250 per person for a nice meal elsewhere. read more

Ridiculously overpriced and totally mediocre food. Two entree choices: fish & meat; each nearly 70$. The fish we ordered was raw in the middle / poorly prepared. The farm to table schtick is way overblown. The 'white anchovies' are obviously not local, 6$ for 5 olives, totally plain gouda, ... and nearly everything aside from the entrees would / could easily be purchased at Whole Foods. Oh, and after spending 360$ for a family of 4, the restaurant tacked on a 10$ credit card fee. Nice touch. There are much better dining options in Crested Butte. read more

i'm picky about salads but i loved theirs! mushrooms surprised me too, the polenta they were served was an amazing touch. sea bass was cooked perfectly and paired well with grits. unfortunately, the steak was underwhelming and bland. our server was sweet but sometimes couldn't identify what ingredients were inside our dish and even sat down to have wine with other customers while she was still serving our table. maybe that's part of the small town vibes that i'm not used to but just sharing my experience! read more

We've always treated the evening as "prix fixe" and just handed the menus back to our server and said, "please bring us what you think looks great (along w wine pairings). They've never failed to disappoint. They are now a formal "prix fixe" restaurant and it fits for Sunflower. Make a reservation (I'd call a couple of weeks in advance), forget about "picking your food", and put yourself in their hands (though ensuring you're served the bolognese is a good idea). The food was delicious and the service was good. The meal did not feel rushed at all and we thoroughly enjoyed everything we ordered. My boyfriend and I had never eaten here before and the waiter helped us navigate how much to order. We started with the homemade bread, olives, and chorizo. We then ordered the kale salad, avocado and cucumber tartare, and the strip steak. The steak was by far our favorite course and just a beautiful piece of meat. The Sunflower is one of my favorite stops in Crested Butte. Dinners here are always spot on, but we LOVE this place for lunch. Hands down the best sandwich in Colorado! We came here in the summer when brunch was under new ownership and it was sooooo good we had to come back. Such fresh salads and sandwiches and breakfast toasts (tartines as they call them). It's pretty much run and operated by all women which is so so cool. It's not everyday you see that! The ladies make all the sourdough bread in house and fresh baked loaves are available for sale as well. They changed the menu a bit since summer, including this rosemary pomegranate wine spritzer that I fell in love with. I also had a spicy hot chocolate which you could tell was homemade and mostly melted real chocolate - straight to my hips! The turkey avocado sandwich was perfect and it was so nice after my first day of skiing. My niece tried the PB and J and my nephew had their sourdough chocolate chip waffles. YES - they have CHOCOLATE CHIP WAFFLES! Technically on the kid's menu but my server Julia said it's for kids and adults of all ages. So great local farm fresh food, great and fast service (we got our food in 10-15 minutes when they were packed). A fantastic farm-to-table eatery that did not disappoint. Small open kitchen that puts out an impressive level of food for being just two people. A tight-knit crew where the chefs and wait staff work really well together. The shrimp in a white wine garlic sauce with grilled bread was loaded with flavor. The house-made sausage was well done and paired with braised cabbage, barley, and a delicious sage emulsion. Bolognese, roasted beets, and winter salad were also great. We were there for an hour and a half and never felt rushed. Although the restaurant is small you can tell that they know how long people usually take and plan accordingly. We were seated at 630 and I didn't notice another party come in for a table until around 730. read more
