This was not my first time at Sunflour but it was definitely my most disappointing time. I had a free birthday pastry reward that I needed to use. I was in the area and decided to stop by about 30 min before closing. When I entered, it was empty except for me and the employees. There were two people working behind the counter, most likely to close up for the day. Neither one of them acknowledged me coming in or asked if I had any questions as I was looking in the case. After asking a clarifying question to determine what was included in the reward, I opted for the lemon meringue bar (probably not the exact name). I got it to go. It was good and not too sweet. Again, it was definitely not the best customer service experience. But based on previous visits, I'll give them another try in the future and hope that this was just an off-day. read more

I was in the area during lunchtime and gave Sunflour Baking Co a try. It is set up counter service style, so you can grab a seat or get your order to go. They have a good amount of sandwich choices with a choice of bread too. Sandwiches are good sized and tasty. I was expecting some sort of side for the price they charge, but just a pickle spear comes with your order. Maybe a side of chips, Mac salad, slaw? Place is cute inside with sunflowers and bright decor. The pastry case looked amazing. Maybe a stop in for a muffin or cinnamon roll next time instead. Sunflour is a good place to get some work done, meet up with a friend for coffee and a croissant (they were enormous!) or a quick lunch. This place was busy on a Saturday morning after our dance class. I felt the service was quite slow to be a bakery with so many staff. It was nice inside and my daughter enjoyed looking at everything. But the line moved slow. I purchased chocolate chip cookies, cinnamon roll, and #4 on cheese biscuit. I know everyone raved about the #4 and the cheddar biscuit but mine was quite burnt. They were out of the biscuits themselves but I would try them again but take them home and cook my own sandwich with real eggs and real meat. The microwave bacon and eggs shouldn't have taken that long to slap on a biscuit. The chocolate chip cookies alone would keep me coming back for sure. read more

I was casually driving around with my pup looking for a fun, dog-friendly lunch spot. This bakery was the perfect solution. I started my meal with a Taiwanese Oolong called "Iron Goddess of Mercy" which I absolutely picked because of the name. The tea was earthy and energizing, and I would come back for the tea alone. I also ordered a special Prosciutto and Sun Dried Tomato sandwich on their Rosemary Bread. I loved the arugula and cheese, but the prosciutto was cut so thick that the sandwich was difficult to bite through and falling apart. I was expecting it to be a bit more delicate, so I'll plan to try another sandwich next time. The best part about this bakery was the dog-friendly atmosphere. There was plenty of parking and outdoor seating, and we enjoyed sitting outside in the shade on a sunny day. I ordered the Black Friday sandwich which was turkey, brie and cranberry apple chutney on sourdough 10/10. The others ordered The Club. The BLT. The turkey avocado and lastly the chicken salad. Everything was fantastic and I would have given a five star review except for one thing...EVERYTHING is extra. At the prices they charge for the sandwiches they should at least get a bag of chips. They do not. It's extra!!! Sandwiches come with no sides at all. The tea is also unsweetened and they add simple syrup if you want sweet tea so if it's not sweet enough you need to ask for another shot of syrup. Since I'm currently on a gluten free diet I stopped in Sunflour to try a couple of their gluten free options--a chocolate donut with sprinkles and a sweet potato muffin. The sweet potato muffin is divine! It has nuts and cranberries and shredded carrots, I believe, in it. Delicious!! The texture is perfect and I would not know it was gluten free if you didn't tell me. The chocolate donut was okay, but I think I detect coconut flavor so perhaps it was made using coconut flour?? Not sure, but it's okay. It's a very deep tasting chocolate, like dark, dark, chocolate. A friend of mine surprised me with one of their chocolate chip gluten free cookies and it was incredibly delicious!! It was the reason I visited today. I wish they had some savory gluten free items because their savory offerings look delicious, but I didn't see any gluten free. Love Sunflour, first time at this location. Recently moved to Harrisburg and trying to support local. They are open for eat in as well as take out. Although I only saw customers eating at tables outside of the bakery. Very clean inside. All employees wore masks. Easy to socially distance. Madison served me and was wonderful! I chose a cupcake that I thought was cookies and cream and she took the time to confirm the flavor which turned out to be mocha. Thanks Madison! I would have been so mad. I got a slice of strawberry cake (delicious and huge, my husband and I shared it and still had some left over) the brownie trifle, the blondie cupcake, and blueberry muffin. The ambiance is picture-perfect for a cafe with the right cafe music and smell of mornings and roasted coffee. Drinks (7/10): Pretty standard selection of drinks. I've had the chai latte and enjoyed it. Tasted like a typical chai and the chai flavor wasn't too overpowering. Today, I got the seasonal Salted Maple latte and it had a bold pretzel-like salty-sweet blend, but it was a little too salty for me. Food (8/10). They have a pretty good variety of breakfast and lunch items (moreso than many other cafes). I haven't had anything bad here, but it's not anything outstanding. I had the Sunny's Special Sandwich today (eggs, sausage, spinach) on Rosemary Sourdough. All of the individual components were well seasoned, but my bread was a little overtoasted and too chewy. That wasn't a dealbreaker though and I still enjoyed my meal. Overall (9/10): Super cute cafe in a quiet spot in Harrisburg. I love that there's so many windows to let in all the sunlight! They always have the cutest decor and they update it seasonally. Sunflour is definitely one of my go-to work spots and I look forward to coming again. I have been wanting to try Sunflour since I moved here and luckily we finally did. I tried the Avocado melt and added turkey to it on multigrain bread. It was toasted like a panini and the bread was crispy on the outside yet lightly toasted in the middle. The sandwich was so good! The roasted turkey added to the sandwich complimented the goat cheese and pesto. When I order this again, I will definitely add bacon because it was missing that saltiness. My husband ordered the number 4, egg, bacon and cheddar on their famous cheddar biscuit. Now we know why the cheddar biscuit is so famous because WOW! It was soft yet had crispy edges and cheesy; just a big flavor bomb! Not pictured was the dirty mocha coffee, but it was missing out on the mocha flavor. First off, I just love the environment. It's a great place to meet up with friends but they also have a good space to work. I enjoy working at coffee shops, so I'll be back here to do that. Next, the food is delicious and there is a lot of selection. I didn't realize how wide a selection they would have and they had a lot of vegan and gluten free dessert options, so this will be a reason for me to go back! I have been trying to accommodate more of this into my life and had no idea this was a place I could go. I had beer cheese soup (not gluten free or vegan), but it was very delicious. The best part is their tea is fresh, loose tea. You find this in very few places around Charlotte, but this is usually the best type of tea. They had a large selection of flavors, too. Overall, I sum up Sunflour as a quaint, local coffee shop with a wide variety of quality food and drink. If you haven't stopped by you should. My boyfriend and I decided to try Sunflour Baking Company, the Harrisburg location, and I am so glad we did. I think it's important to shop and eat at local businesses during this time. We ordered the Avocado BLT, the Roast Beast sandwich and a caramel latte with almond milk. The latte was incredible. I'm lactose intolerant so it was nice to see that they had almond and oat milk for me to choose from. They have a lot of coffee options and all of them look incredibly delicious. The Roast Beast sandwich had so much meat on it! It was loaded! My boyfriend said it was absolutely delicious, he especially liked the horseradish sauce that came with it. The Avocado BLT was also delicious. Most places only give you a sliver of avocado, not sunflour. This sandwich had a LARGE amount of avocado. You could tell the ingredients were fresh. I've been a Sunflour regular for YEARS and I have to say- their pastries are out of this world. AMAZING! I love the sandwiches but their gluten free key lime pie absolutely takes the cake. Nothing better. I don't personally get the coffee there but couldn't recommend the pastries and sandwiches more. Their homemade rosemary sourdough is one of the very few I can tolerate. All of the pastries are incredible. My favorite sandwiches are the ham & Gruyère as well as the kickin' chicken. The breakfast sandwiches are unmatched! I really want to like this place more but I can't and I don't. The quality of food is just not there, let alone the fact that the ordering process is excruciatingly long. Avoid coming here on a weekend morning between the hours of around 9:30 a.m. to noon. Between the crowds and people new to Sunflour and its menu/goods, you will not get out of there under 10 minutes. Also, if you're ordering something for yourself and another, you will not get out of there spending less than $10. The prices are the main thing that bugs me about Sunflour. What they serve is not at all worth the amount they charge. The baked goods, cakes/cupcakes are not fresh-tasting at all. They very clearly are prepared early in the day and then proceed to sit out in the case all day. I find the croissants (chocolate & original) to be the best thing they offer. The coffee is all right. They sell all of the other specialty coffee drinks and you will have to wait if you order one. The speed of service is another thing that bothers me. The cashiers usually pull double duty of ringing up customers and making beverages/plating food. However, there doesn't seem to be much pep in their steps in doing any of those tasks. Common sense should tell you that if there's a line, maybe move a little faster? If you are in the mood for a croissant, definitely stop here but make it in during the non-peak hours. read more
