This is my spot now for grabbing banh mi on the way home from work. My last visit I got 3 sandwiches for less than $22 w/ tax and tip. Which is about what I paid for Jack in the Box a few days prior to that. And no surprise, Sun Ta Tofu is waaaay better than Jack in the Box. The sandwiches are great. My favorite so far is the beef. It's a nicely seasoned ground beef patty of sorts. If you show up late in the day like me, don't count on the #1 banh mi (pork belly) being available. It sells out apparently. My one criticism? Lady at the register taking orders and making my sandwiches was coughing, coughing coughing. It kinda made me uncomfortable. A week later I stopped in again...still coughing. She was wearing a mask this time. A couple ahead of me was taking forever to figure out what they wanted. I was trying to get home to watch a hockey game. I left. I know I was being impatient, but I don't want to get sick either. I understand it's hard to find help. And if you're an owner, manager or other kind of boss, it's hard to let go and take time off, but I'd rather not have someone coughing making my food or in front of me taking my order. Stopped by Sun Ta Tofu for their grilled pork Vietnamese sandwich and left feeling like this place has potential but isn't quite there yet. The flavor was just okay, not bad but nothing that made me want to text my friends about it either. The real letdown was the bread. For a Vietnamese sandwich, the bread is everything, and this one felt stale and lacked that crucial crispiness that makes or breaks a banh mi. It's like getting a burger with a soggy bun, technically still food, but missing the soul of what makes it good. The service was solid and the atmosphere was pleasant enough, but when the foundation of your sandwich game isn't on point, it's hard to overlook. Fix the bread situation and bump up the flavor profile, and this could be a solid spot. Right now though, it's just mediocre with promise. Would I go back? Yet another place I wish I could have liked better, though I do like how it revitalized the place on MLK Way that stayed stagnant for a long time. I went here to get a banh mi with my mom since we both wanted to try it here. For the inside, there's a ton of food on tables and behind the counter, just like most Vietnamese delis here in Seattle. It's also very sleek and clean inside. My mom and I each got a grilled pork banh mi, and I have to say... I was conflicted with the overall taste. The baguette itself wasn't crispy and was instead kinda squishy. The grilled pork wasn't really grilled either, something I've been seeing a ton of Vietnamese delis do with their banh mi sandwiches nowadays. The meat itself was too thick, and wasn't as delectable; maybe there wasn't enough seasoning. The mayo inside the sandwich was also too overpowering, and there was a lot of it too. I love the concept here and just the fact that there's more Vietnamese delis closer to me, but their banh mi sandwiches didn't do it for me. I'll stick with some of my long-time favorites for the moment, and probably give some of their other foods a try in another visit. read more

We were looking for a place to buy tofu and soy milk and Sun Ta Tofu seemed to fit the bill! This place has an absolute plethora of Vietnamese delights throughout the store. There are tables packed with various prepared foods and snacks, and fridges with additional food, drinks, desserts, meats, pickles, etc. There's also a deli counter for banh mi, rice dishes, and noodle dishes. So much stuff to try, so little stomach space! Tofu ($5/lb) - All the seasoned tofu can be purchased by the pound for $5/lb. For sale today, they had larger slices of tofu embedded with wood ear and tofu including lemongrass and ginger. They then had smaller cubes with garlic and covered with jalapeno, giving a bit of spiciness, and more cubes tossed with ginger and lemongrass. And then two sizes of regular fried tofu. The person offered us samples of the smaller pieces since this was the first time there. After eating them, we were hooked and ended up getting about 1.5 pounds total between the larger pieces and the small lemongrass. This tofu is so snack-able, just eating one with fantastic lemongrass and ginger flavor makes me want to keep eating them. We ended up eating most of the tofu just by itself... Soy Milk, Non Sweet ($3.50) - This same soy milk can be bought from various Asian groceries stores in Seattle, but the soy milk here is served fresh and warm. I was wondering why they were just kept on the counter instead of in the fridge until I lifted the bottle up and felt the heat emanating from the liquid inside. Fantastic soy beany taste, freshly warm, yum. Also much cheaper than buying it from the grocery stores! Sun Ta Tofu is a bit of a trek to get to, but I will definitely be back for more! I have come here for a variety of Vietnamese fast food options such as their rice rolls, dessert options, and soy milk! I am such a big fan of their hot soy milk that comes sweetened, unsweetened and pandan flavored. They're all delicious options and I love stopping by to grab a jug to go! I also like their other to go options that are beautifully displayed in their store. Additionally I like how friendly and quick the workers are here. Had been waiting for this place to open they did a great job fixing up the run down strip mall that had been there previously. Nice bright space. my dad and I were back to his house after picking something up in the CD. We decided to give them a try. Wanted to get a variety of items to try so we ordered a grilled chicken banh mi, green bean tofu and Bahn Cuon believe there was ground pork mushrooms and onions, really enjoyed flavor of the filling of the Bahn Cuon. They tofu green dish was also delicious. The bahn mi has a kick and not from raw jalapeños that are usually on a banh mi maybe from the pickled veggies I personally like spicy but just a heads up. Service was friendly and quick. Proteins can be in a Bahn Mi, with nooles of rice. There also number of other items available alot like Thanh Son Tofu in Little Saigon, nice to have something in the south end of Seattle. read more

For $8 you can get a solid lunch plate that has steamed rice rolls, fried tofu and a bit of sliced cucumbers and jalapeños. The menu is slightly confusing and their english might be limited, but all you gotta ask for is a lunch plate and point at what you want, lol. Haven't tried anything else, but I don't plan to. If you really like the rice rolls and tofu you also have the option to order it by the pound. read more

New spot in Hillman City across the street from Q Bakery, my go to spot for Bahn mi. I tried the grilled pork Bahn mi and fried egg Bahn mi on this trip. Grilled pork Bahn mi had an excellent filling to bread ratio, with generous portions of meat and veggies. The egg bahnmi felt lacking, with way more mayo on the bread than needed. Pricing seemed competitive. I can't comment on the bread as I had my sandwich several hours later when the bread had become soggy. The place is very clean and spacious but is a to-go establishment with no seating. Unlike Q bakery which is staffed almost entirely by Vietnamese women, Sun Ta was staffed primarily by those who did not look ethnically Vietnamese. I will need to come back to try their tofu dishes. First time eating here. Had Vietnamese mini crepes. Really good. Lots of them, twelve in all. I took six home. And their Vietnamese salted coffee? Addictive! Service? Well there was one young lady that didn't seem very happy. Maybe she had a bad experience before we got there. I don't know. But she just wasn't friendly. Hope she gets a good nights sleep. The other young lady that waited on us was very nice. The open setting of the restaurant is refreshing and surprisingly quiet. It's airy and the large bright windows flood the room with light. Really recommend this place for tofu and tofu bahn mi. We have tried some of the meat bahn mi options and they are good, but it's the fresh tofu that is the star here. Excellent value for the price! They tend to include a lot of jalepeno which I usually take off, and I like to add some hoisin sauce since they don't add much sauce to the sandwiches. read more

I wanted to like this place. They spent many months remodeling the dump-y corner lot, and the resulting building is very nicely done. There are big light-filled windows all along the front. The indoor decor is tastefully done with attractive decorations and cool material choices. The menu is nicely presented with a number of choices of protein that can be accompanied by either le rice, noodle, or made up on bread as banh mi. The concept is good. We ordered a tofu noodle combo and a tofu sandwich. They looked good with a pile of fresh veggies. The flavor wasn't there though. The bread was bland and squishy, not the nice baguette with crispy crust. The noodles were decent but the lemongrass tofu could be more flavorful. Overall, the location is attraction, the staff is friendly, the menu looks good, but the flavor could be better. All the same, I'm glad they are here as an open business here is way better than the eye-sore empty store front was here previously. read more

Sadly had a very poor experience here mainly due to the language barrier and service. I tried ordering tofu from the cashier and she kept trying to give us noodles or a banh mi. From much back and forth, she started yelling at me, and I told her to forget about the tofu. I also ordered a grilled pork banh mi with no cilantro. She understood that and it was on the receipt about the no cilantro. However, when I got home it looks like there was extra cilantro on it! I have never seen so much cilantro on a banh mi. Also, the bread was stale and pork was shredded, so I think I didn't get the right sandwich. I don't think I will return. Q bakery and Tony's across the street is much better. read more

We dropped by today, curious to see this bakery (Sun Ta Tofu & Bakery), and wanting to support a new business. The service was good. The shop is bright, spacious, clean. No seating available. Lots of Vietnamese-type desserts and drinks, different types of tofu, lunches (such as noodles with pork and vegetables), and sandwiches made to order. This place's banh mi is better than Thanh son. Selection not as big but you don't get the large crowed so service is quick. I don't usually care about customer service at delis and Asian establishments in general but the lady working went out of her way to make sure I got everything I needed. Really wanted to like this place since it's new and clean. Ordered 3 different banh mi and I was disappointed. Ordered the tofu thinking it was going to be amazing, considering they had so many to choose from. The banh mi came out cold and lack in flavor, the least they could have done was heat up the bread. This place needs some improvements for sure. I had hard time communicating with them. I was asked how much of the tofu i wanted, i told them a pound was good. They gave me about a half pound over and even threw some more in once i told them that was enough. Same thing happened with the eggplant and tofu dish and to which the eggplant and tofu dish was nothing to really write about. The fried tofu options are incredible! I bought several pounds of plain fried tofu, and a pound of the lemongrass chili pepper tofu and it was all delicious. We also ordered a tofu banh mi. They didn't warm up the bread, which I would have liked, but the sandwich was huge and the fillings were generous and tasty. 10/10 would order again. The grocery selection is good, with items like preserved starberry, tropical fruit juices, house-prepared Vietnamese snacks and desserts, Vietnamese yogurt, etc. Sun Ta Tofu is a really nice addition to the Hillman City shopping scene:) read more
