After my previous experience, I was comfortable going back. The dealer mentioned that my front brakes needed to be replaced and it would cost $209. I called Sun Devil and they had a $139 special. I took my SUV in and dropped it off. I got a call an hour later saying the drums needed to be replaced. It would now be $350. I told them that the dealer never mentioned anything wrong with the brakes just a few days ago. I told them not to do anything then. I got a call back from the manager saying I didn't have to replace the drums but it was recommended. I said just do the pads for $139 as I originally requested. They did but I think the Drums were an unnecessary upsell that most people would have no choice but to say okay. read more

I don't know what to think of this place. Had a windshield replaced. The rear view mirror fell off- no problem. They reapply the gule and metal piece used to anchor the rear view mirror- no problem. They tell me to wait til the next day to put the mirror back on- no problem. I wait til the next afternoon and it falls off again- no problem. I take it back in and they tell me I NEED TO FIX IT MYSELF- they tell me to go buy some windshield apoxy and do it myself- I was stunned. They were all so professional and helpful up to this point. Extremely impressed with both the prices and the quality of service that I had received at Sun Devil Auto. Made an appointment for my Jeep's first oil change since I bought the vehicle. I had just gotten my tires rotated two days before bringing it in, and was surprised and pleased to hear that they do free tire rotations with every service. Yay for me, now I don't have to go to two different places for two things that are so simple! Anyhow, the gentleman who helped me when I walked through the door was kind and pleasant, didn't try to sell me anything extra or push additional services or products on me (thank goodness, because we all know what happens to women when they walk through the doors of an automotive business), and was knowledgeable about my particular vehicle. The service itself took about 45 minutes from start to finish, which is comparable to other places, if not quicker. The cost was what really impressed me. I have taken my previous vehicles elsewhere, and been charged in upwards of $40 for an oil change, but Sun Devil Auto only charges around $22 (I think my Jeep requires an extra quart or something of that nature). After the cost of labor, misc. parts, etc. It came to around $28 after tax, which is very competitive. I also took advantage of the Yelp! check-in special to utilize an even further discount. I brought in my car to get the headlight fixed (the headlights are custom) and when I got home I checked the light to make sure it worked and it did not. I called and the manager Steve was very nice and told me I could bring it in so they could look at it. I brought it in and they said that I would need to purchase a whole new HID kit, so I purchase one from amazon and called them back and Steve fit me into his schedule the next day! I originally came in for an oil change a few months ago because of a referral from a family member and got it taken care of no problem for a cheap price. I figured this would be my new go-to place for my vehicles and today called around 8am and scheduled an appointment at 2pm. I show up at 2pm figuring it would be the same thing and I could drop off my vehicle and pick it up in an our like before and like I was told. I walked in and went to the front desk and told them I was there to drop off my truck for a 2pm appointment and the guy looked at me and goes we are busy today so I dont think i'll be able to get to it before 6pm. I then re-informed him that I had an appointment at 2pm and wasnt a walk in and that this was scheduled. He stated "We only really do oil changes as a courtesy and we dont charge labor on them only the price of the filter and oil." There was an awkward pause and he was basically telling me since they dont "make money" off of their oil changes they couldnt care less that I had an appointment they had people coming in for real issues they could make money off of so I was pushed aside. No offer to reschedule, no apology just a blank stare until I said ok and walked out. I actually have some work that needs to be done and my check engine light was on, so I was hoping they could diagnose that and give me a quote but hey if they want to lose out on the potential of making money off of the issues with my truck and my other vehicle along with my family members that refereed me thats fine by me. Wasted a lunch break, and also wasted my friends time who met me there to pick me up since I was going to leave my truck there for the hour appointment. Very disappointing and will not be back, along with making sure I will inform the others I know who go here. They dont value you unless they can use you to get more money out of you. I wouldnt have been upset at all if they had the decency to call me ahead of time and explain they are busy and that they could reschedule for later this week but the fact that they waited until I drove all the way there is what made me the most mad, especially when there were two employees behind the counter helping no one at the time I walked in. Overall its up to you whether you want to take the risk to get work done here, they may be in the mood to help you that day, or you may end up like me and think you have an appointment only to find out you wasted a trip over there. I dont like wasting my time so ill take my vehicles to a shop who at least knows when they can see me and get the work done. read more

This has been my first experience at Sun Devil Auto, I was referred here from a friend after I went somewhere else and had a terrible experience. Matt was the guy at the front who ended up helping me when I came in for my appointment. The whole staff was fun, friendly, and professional! I am not a car person and I always hate taking my car in because I feel like they are going to take advantage of me not knowing enough about the car. With SDA I felt totally different! I was comfortable leaving my car in their hands. I was expecting it to take forever (per usual on a Saturday) but instead they surprised me with a phone call shortly after I dropped the car off! Matt was able to explain everything that my car needed in a way that I was able to understand instead of just throwing out a bunch of car terms. I never felt pressured like they were just trying to up-sell me. This was one of the best experiences I have had at an auto shop. I dropped my car off on Saturday morning after having an oil change at Jiffy Lube and finding out that I had an oil leak. I also stated that the right hand side of my car would make a clicking/tapping sound near the air conditioner. They asked if I wanted to have that fixed as well and I said "well quote me on it and I will let you know based on how much it costs". I received a phone call a couple hours later informing me that the total cost of the repairs would be around $1100 and I approved the costs. I now regret doing that without first taking it to another mechanic to verify the issues and cost, but it's too late now. They told me that it would take 7 hours to complete my vehicle, so it should have been done that day (Saturday). I never heard from them by the end of business day, called on Sunday only to find out that they were closed. Monday morning I called and the man who answered the phone wasn't sure what exactly was going on and said that he would check with the technician and call me back. One hour later I received a phone call and they let me know that they had a delay getting a part on Saturday, but that it was now in their possession and that the vehicle would be completed that day, Monday. One hour before close of business, I still had not received a phone call, so I called them again to see if my car was still on track to be completed in that last hour. They told me that they thought they had called when they completed my car, and that it was ready to be picked up (I never received a phone call). I go inside to pay for the repairs but can't pick up the vehicle yet because I have my husbands car, so once he gets out of work he drops me off. Upon getting in my vehicle, I see a wire and lightbulb hanging on the floor, and the clicking/tapping noise was coming from both sides of the vehicle and was much louder and more prevalent than when I had dropped it off three days prior. It also didn't stop after turning the vehicle off. I didnt even make it out of the parking lot before pulling back in and telling them that the issue wasn't fixed. The man at the desk told me that he would take the key and that he only knew about the oil leak issue, not the actuator so I would have to call in the morning at 7AM when they open. They wrote a note on my intake form that the actuator needed to be looked at and that they were to include that repair in my quote. I have work today and was glad to hear that they opened before I head in, at 8AM so that they would have one hour to hopefully fix the problem, only to be informed that they don't open for repairs until 8 AM, when the techinicians get there. All in all this has been a terrible terrible experience, lack of communication and clarity, problems not being fixed and my car being worse off after spending $1300. I won't be using this company again. Update: Called this morning (Tuesday) and told the man who answered everything that was going on and he asked when I could bring the car in. They have my key and the car is sitting in the parking lot, again poor communication between the staff. He stated that he saw the note about the actuator but it never got onto the work order??? read more

After a simple oil change I discovered a pool of oil under my car. I took it in to a different mechanic who informed me Sun Devil Auto had left my oil plug lose. Their mistake and incompetence could have cost me thousands of dollars in engine repairs had I not discovered the problem when I did. When I had a vibration in my wheel they also told me I had leaking power steering fluid and would need a very expensive repair. I took it to the dealer for a second opinion and it turned out to be a suspension part and there was no power steering leak anywhere. They were accommodating and let me pick it up the next day, no questions asked. The fact that they didn't try to find extra issues to charge me with or push me to spend money was a welcome relief. He's unlike any car mechanic I have ever dealt with. I had transmission work done on my car through them. When I took the car to them he told me that there was something wrong with transmission that needed to be checked. The warranty had expired a week earlier, without even informing me he made the transmission shop fix it without costing me a penny. Later, he told me in a matter of fact way about my warranty. Having had many bad experiences in the past related to my car in the past; I was amazed at what a nice person he was. I don't know much about cars, so usually feel both overwhelmed and taken advantage of by an auto shop. Steve at Sun Devil Auto gave me my faith back. Took my car to the dealership cause sounded terrible and turns out had a broken exhaust. Dealership was going to charge me $700 to weld it and to replace the part would be $3300. I called Steve because my sister recommended him and he said to bring it in so he could take a look; he didn't charge me to check out he car (I paid $100 at the dealership). He couldn't fix it, but called another place nearby that could. The cost to fix the car was $60. I will never take my car back to the dealership again and will always go to Sun Devil. I didn't want to share my experience because they did make it right. But I need to let the public know what happened to me and how aware you should me when it comes to your automobile issues. I went in for a routine oil change and when the tech was done he informed me that my serpentine belt was completely destroyed and if I didn't fix this immediately I could potentially die in a car accident. I was worried, so planned to come back and get this fixed. Their total was going to be $130 and it was a little steep for me. I called around and had another mechanic replace it for me, lone behold my serpentine belt was completely okay and still has another year or more left on it. Please be aware if they tell you there is an issue with your car, ASK to look at this particular issue. Very upsetting that a local mechanic could take advantage so easily. WOMEN BEWARE! I took my car to the Sun Devil Auto at 8919 E. San Victor in Scottsdale and they told my I needed at least $2500.00 worth of repairs, when another honest shop repaired it for $126.00!!! The facts are as follows: I am a single woman in her sixties on a fixed income. I took my car into Sun Devil Auto on October 5, 2018 for regular maintenance. I also told them to check the alignment because I had smacked a curb on the passenger side while driving. They later called me and said the frame was damaged along with the radiator core support, and it would cost a minimum of $2500.00 to repair, and maybe more depending on what else they found. I had them repeat it because I was so shocked. They told me I might want to check with my insurance company regarding payment. I had them do the regular maintenance and picked up the car. I asked if it was driveable and they said yes, but not for long distances. I then took the car to Back to Basics, the auto shop that I used when I worked downtown at the Attorney General's office. I asked them just to check the frame because I had smacked it on a curb. They later called me up and said I had bent a small piece of metal that I didn't need, and everything else they could put back in place for $126.00. When I picked up the car, I asked whether it would be readily apparent if the frame and radiator core support had been damaged. They said it would be. I then told them what Sun Devil Auto had said and what they attempted to charge me and they were shocked as well. I went to Sun Devil Auto based on the glowing reviews I read here, so I wanted to warn people that they are not an honest shop. Please get a second opinion on any serious repairs they say need to be done!! read more

From the first time I called and explained the issue I was having with my Ford Escape, Matt was great at making me feel that they were going to take care of me. He was personable and great at explaining what they were going to do. The next day after the technician looked over the issue, he called and explained what they found and how they wanted to do one thing to test and see if it would fix the issue without doing the big expensive job. They were quick at getting it done and my car back to me in working condition! With the great experience I had there, I plan on going the extra few miles to go to this location instead of any of the other closer to my house auto shops in the future. The worst place I have been to, they deserve 0 stars! I took in my car for an oil change about 2 mnths ago. After waiting 4 hours to get my car back, I got a phone call from them saying that my car needs all these repairs and parts and that it is very important I take care of them now. I had my car thoroughly inspected a week prior and there was nothing wrong with it! They were very pushy and basically told me they would order the parts for me and do the repair there - I said absolutely not! A week after a picked up my car, my AC stopped working. I took it to the dealership and they said there were no leaks and it looks like someone drained my freon - there is not much to say here anymore. Save your money and go somewhere else. To reply to the comment below I will just say that my review stands as it is, and a manager contacting me because they received 0 stars and wanting to discuss the situation with me won't refund the $500 worth of repairs they have caused! I had my car towed to Sun Devil after it died on me for the third time. By the time it made it to Sun Devil it started fine and they were unable to find the cause. They test drove it multiple times but could not replicate the issue and it was unclear what could be causing it. Since they were unable to find the cause they didn't charge me anything. A week later the check engine light came on so I took it back in hopes they could now locate the cause. They ran the codes and found what they believed to be the issue. Since my car is fairly new they were not able to perform one of the pieces of the repair (resetting the computer). Rather than try and do part of it they suggested it would be best to take it to the Ford dealership and again charged me nothing. A lot of shops would have taken full advantage of the situation and charged me as much as possible, but they made sure to do what was best for the situation. I've never written a review on a site like this in my life but after the way the guys at Sun Devil Auto in Scottsdale handled my business with them, it's the absolute least I could do. Took my wife's Infiniti G35 in due to several issues and they diagnosed and fixed the problems we could afford to fix. On the things we couldn't afford to fix? As opposed to your typical scare tactic upsell that you'd get at other places, they gave her extensive advice on how to avoid making the problem worse. After her car was done, I was ready to hand over the keys to my own car (had an issue with a wiper blade motor). They asked me to describe the problem a bit further and as I did, they determined that it was caused by nothing more than a loose screw... then one of the mechanics (Jim) came out to check my car while in the parking lot, showed me the problem and how easy of a fix it was and even went as far as to insist on running over to the bay and getting a wrench to fix it for me! Problem solved! For the first time in my life I watched a mechanic turn down business and put the best interest of the customer first.. well knowing that they'd get nothing in return for it. Now that's integrity at it's finest. This is obviously just a quick and vague review but I'd HIGHLY recommend that you go to Sun Devil Auto in Scottsdale before bringing your car anywhere else. The managers are just all around great guys as well as the mechanics! These guys know cars like the back of their hands and they do an incredible job of using easy to understand language as well as metaphors that would help even the clueless novice know what's going on with their car. Clean environment, good vibe, no pressure, VERY professional.. could go on much longer but you get the point. Great people, great service, pricing is BETTER than any other place I called for a quote on and most important, they're genuine and honest.. which is what I think we ALL look for mainly in a mechanic.
