We WERE new customers to Sun Devil. Not anymore. I was told that we needed a new radiator, after spending $650.00, I was back every 2 weeks for it leaking. I got corporate involved. The situation was corrected. We also had the power steering pump replaced, well yesterday, it started to leak, brought it to our new repair home. To see the shote job that was done. Air cleaner Hose was shoved in there, clamps were not even positioned correctly. Couldn't figure out the AC problem Kept putting freon in. Our new repair home, fixed it for us. No muss, no Fuss. A/C stopped working so I took it in; I don't usually use Sun Devil but they were convenient and I've had a fair enough experience in the past. They said I needed a new compressor and clutch for just under $900. I took it to my regular mechanic who said I needed a $5 bolt. That's class. read more

I took my car in to have the hoses replaced. The mechanic only replaced two radiator hoses. I left and immediately had a Check Coolant Low light. Made a U Turn and went back to the shop. Was told it must be an air bubble. Two days later the light was back on. This time I was told by Craig Globokar (store Manager) that it must be the sensor. The next day the light was back so I went back in and was told by Craig Globokar it was the sensor again. Today, I returned to Sun Devil auto and was told by Mike that there was a leak in the heater hose. Evidently, the store manager, Craig Globokar, cannot find leaks or identify any major issues with cars. I was charged $358 to replace the hoses. I now have a major leak. The General Manager, Chris Doster, is very dishonorable man and completely lacking in integrity. When I brought this to his attention, he indicated that they would not refund my money for labor despite the mechanic's indirect admission of ineptitude. These shops charge $82 per hour, they are not worth $.05. read more

Have to update my review. Not a day or two after I picked up my car from Sun Devil Auto I started hearing a terrible noise from the front driver side of my car. Now I know they had mentioned my brakes were bad, but I hadn't heard as much as a squeak before and now I was hearing metal on metal after they worked on it. Thinking it may have been exacerbated by the spare tire, I took it in to another shop to have it looked at. They confirmed that my brakes were in fact bad, but their replacement package was $100+ cheaper than what SDA quoted me. I'm glad that they brought the issue to my attention, but I believe a better value can be found elsewhere. read more

Took my car in for a 70k mile check on Saturday. I had called in and spoken to Austin over the phone before dropping off the car and he was really friendly. When I dropped off the car, he asked me if there was anything I was concerned about in particular. I had noticed this loud crunching noise coming from my front right passenger wheel well but it had been happening for a while and I figured if there really was an issue, the techs would find it during the 70k inspection (why give ammo to be ripped off, right?). Austin then called me later saying they had found a substantial issue with the axle/wheel well area (as well as with an engine belt). The prices for the repairs weren't cheap but it seemed fair considering the area and the prices charged by the competition in comparison. Being a poor newlywed who has only a slight grasp on car mechanics, I really appreciated Austin taking the time to explain each and every issues/repair/cost to me. He never made me feel rushed and was very respectful and patient. It was still a bit painful paying for the repairs (when is it not??? :P) but the car drove and sounded great afterwards. Very slow turn around. I set an appointment for an oil change and back brake inspection, expecting to be out in a few hours. I was the first appointment in the morning, and didn't leave until 2:30 PM. Perhaps my frustration is influenced by my agenda items that day, but I missed out on some very important events because of it. I personally would try to find somewhere quicker. Note - The first come first serve policy was not clearly communicated to me. That is why I called in advanced and scheduled an appointment. I did express my urgency to leave as I showed up at around 10 AM. So there must have been miscommunication somewhere along the 4.5 hour wait period. I made an appointment on Tuesday for Friday at noon. I dropped off my car and told them I needed it done by 1. This should be doable as it was just in for an oil change. As I am leaving the building the man at the register told another employee your noon appointment is here. He said he is going to lunch and walked out. I should have known my car wouldn't be done in time. I came back from dropping it off at 12:45 and they were just taking my car in for the change. This review covers my experience prior to dropping my car off at this shop and after dropping it off and talking to the manager the FLW location, Mark. I made an appointment online and entered all my personal and car information. It appears there is an issue with their online appointment system as Mark did not see my car in the system when I called to followup at 7am. Not an issue for me, but it will piss off folks with higher expectations or needs. The key drop box had a pen in it, but the envelopes were empty. Why would I give 4 stars without even knowing the result? Simply because Mark answered the phone promptly and cheerfully at 7am. He was professional, kind and damn proud of his shop. He took time to explain that Sun Devil is a family shop in valley for 40 some years. With that kind of attitude and pride, I'm betting it's unlikely for things to go awry at this place. I had exactly 1-1/2 hrs to get my oil change before a happy hour for work - including the entire Executive team. I tried 5 locations and they were packed- and the employees were slugs! All telling me that it would take an 2 hours! (It's 110 degrees in AZ- in month of July) sooo- thankfully I drove down Frank Lloyd Wright- Sun Devil fit me right in- gave me a great rate- and said it would take 30-40 min. Update 8.20.19: Took my car to another shop expecting the same diagnosis, but what shouldn't have been a surprise... Sun Devil Auto got it wrong! Instead of paying $2000 (with a $200 discount... thanks Mark!), the other shop replaced the seals and recharged the system for $120 and I'm back on the road in car that is blowing ice cold with no issues for the compressor or system as a whole. Don't trust this shop or their mechanics. LOOK ELSEWHERE! I went in for an AC check and diagnosis. I spoke with the manager, Mark, on the phone. He gave me the spiel on Sun Devil auto's history and "auto shops don't make it long in this industry without a proven reputation." Convinced, I took my car in to be diagnosed. I was quoted at a 45 min- 1 hour for a follow up. I had to call back an hour and 45 min later to see the progress on the car. Once I came to pick up the car, the attitude of Mark and the employees had changed after I had told them I did not want to proceed on the recommended repairs. It turned from potential customer to mere indifference. No longer was I talking with the manager, he was too "preoccupied" on his computer to run through his quote with me. I recommend anyone that takes their car in to compare the cost of the parts versus rockauto.com it was almost 100% more than what I could find online. I was told they only used parts "they can guarantee, we don't use cheap Chinese parts", but the part numbers matched from the quote to what I found online. Additionally, I noticed a new sound that wasn't there when I dropped off the car. They told me they couldn't hear it, but it'd be quite hard in a full functioning repair shop versus outside in the parking lot to hear. Long story short they denied hearing a sound and I went on my way. I would not recommend Sun Devil Auto to anyone and recommend everyone to check the quote against prices online for parts before approving a repair. read more

After going in for an oil change and being promised a tire rotation with filled tires, Sun Devil Auto failed to simply do their job or please me. They didn't have to mention "taking care of me" when consciously knowing they were not going to rotate or fill my tires. I knew exactly each tire psi prior to going in and each tire was the same number in the same location. I do not recommend going there due to poor service, false advertising, and weak management; in which management did not fix the issue or ensure that it would never happen again. A little while ago I came here asking for an alternator replacement after being assured by another shop that mine was shot. Maybe the worst repair shop in the valley. I took my car in to get the cooling system repaired but now two years later the water pump is failing again. I took my car in on Friday and was told they would have a answer for me on Monday. Monday came I didn't hear from them so I called on Tuesday to find out what's going on and was told they still haven't looked at my car because the mechanic was out sick and they got behind. I get a call this morning from Sam and was told my car still is t ready because it's the mechanics off day so they do t have anyone to work on my car. What type of repair shop only had one mechanic? When I expressed my frustration with my car being there since Friday and today is Wednesday with nothing done I was told I can just come pick up my car and take it somewhere else. (Great customer service). Normally I would just go to a better repair shop but since the failing part is covered under their warranty I would have to pay again out of pocket so that's not really a option for me Sam. Recently, I got a warning light on my dash alerting me that there was a problem with the braking system. Oh boy. Fortunately, the excellent staff at Sun Devil auto solved the problem by carefully inspecting every element of the system. The master cylinder had a leak inside to the booster, and both items had to be replaced. Mark, the manager, Jason, and the technician himself assured me that I was in good hands. I picked up the car, and honestly, it drove like a new car! They even reset the vehicle computer for me. The price was very competitive. My oil change was very reasonable, too. They made a recommendation to get new struts soon, so I'll be back. I trust them completely. For years now, this location has provided me with no anxiety, just peace of mind. **AVOID AT ALL COSTS** My car was serviced Mid November. My review is about a month delayed. * I had my car serviced there in November of 2016. Sun Devil did the lifetime warranty on my front brakes. November 2018, I brought my car to the dealership (which is where I get all my work done, for a good reason) to be inspected before a thanksgiving trip. My rear brakes were due for changing so I figured I would take my car to sun devil auto to have all my brake work done in one place and have a lifetime warranty on both axels. I called and initially spoke with Mark over the phone and scheduled an appointment for the next day. I got to Sun Devil the following day and turned the keys over to Matt. I was initially going to stay in the lobby but was able to sneak out for some lunch. Prior to me leaving for lunch I was being sold on "How great sun devil auto is, how all the mechanics are certified, how much cheaper they are compared to the dealer, and how they have been family owned and operated for 25 years." I'll admit, I was sold on using sun devil as my primary mechanic due to the customer service, price of the work and timely repair. While at lunch, I got a call saying my car was done, cruised back to Sun Devil, paid and got in my car. I was extremely satisfied with the service until I got in my car. I drive a manual and use the e brake to park my car instead of leaving it in first gear. I realized that the e brake would not engage AT ALL. Prior to leaving my car with sun devil auto, I had ZERO problems with the E-brake. I got out of my car, walked in, and politely told them what was going on. Matt grabbed the keys and they pulled It back into the shop. About 45 minutes later Matt came back in and told me my rear brake calipers were shot and proceeded to quote me on a $600 install. At that point I was furious, so I took back the keys and drove my car across the street to right Honda to get it diagnosed. Long story short, instead for threading the calipers they took an impact to it and destroyed the thread. I was quoted $700 for the repair from right Honda and was willing to pay it for the peace of mind that the work would have been done properly (I should have, it would have saved me 5 hours). After getting the report I called sun devil to see what we could do to get this issue addressed. I was told to bring the car back to sun devil auto and they would take a look. After Sun Devil took a look at the calipers with (consideration of the diagnosis from Right Honda) I was told that it is physically impossible for someone to do that (even though the thread was trashed, and mechanic shops have dozens of impacts laying around). Anyways, after expressing frustration about Sun Devil auto being another one of the Jiffy Lubes, FireStones, PepBoys, Etc, of the world, Matt worked with me on getting the price down to just the price of the parts. I was completely okay with this arrangement. Finally, at 5:30, my car was good to go with new rear brakes and new e brake calipers. Got in my car and believe it or not THE E BRAKE STILL DIDN'T WORK. I was absolutely baffled that the mechanic working on my car DIDN'T CHECK TO SEE IF IT WAS PROPERLY INSTALLED WHEN HE WAS DONE!!!!!!! I walked back in and they get it back up on the jack, come to find out the caliper that was installed on the left wheel was defective. I then scheduled to come back in the next day at 11:00 to get the rest of the work done. The next day I show up, turn over my keys and the work begins. About an hour into the work I'm told they ordered the wrong part and the right one will be here in about 30 minutes. About an hour after that my car was finished and the E Brake FINALLY worked. The purpose of me bringing my car to sun devil auto was to make sure my car was READY for a road trip. The reason I had called the day prior to make an appointment was because I had I lot of things to do before I left. I sept a total of 10 hours at the shop which was not the in and out plan I had. Also, I went from expecting to pay $250 to a total of $600 before a week-long trip. It would have been $1,000 if Matt hadn't given me a deal. COME ON!!!!! So, on top of having to pay an unexpected $350, I am also now driving a car that I am worried the work wasn't properly done on. Great. The last thing I needed was my rear brakes failing while going downhill or my ebrake failing while parked on a slope. The thing that absolutely frustrates me the most is the fact that their "certified mechanics" didn't check their work when it was done. It makes me question what other type of work they are doing that isn't properly being checked once installed. Sun Devil auto, I'm sure you will post some sort of response justification on why exactly you weren't at fault. Please do not contact me unless you are planning on refunding my calipers and the inspection cost from right Honda. read more

I don't normally post reviews but I am hoping that management takes a look at this. For the second time now I've visited Sun Devil Auto on Frank Lloyd Wright and received ZERO service! The first time I showed up was for a simple AC recharge. They open at 7:00 in the morning and I arrived around 7:15 or so. When I spoke to the gentleman about what I was there for he quickly replied that he can't do an AC recharge till 8:00. The reason he couldn't provide the service is because "my guy doesn't come in till 8:00". Although, there were several open slots and plenty of folks standing around. It seems a little out there that you can't provide a simple service during normal business hours. Again this morning I stopped in for a simple oil change and tire rotation. I was there about 7:30 and the guy at the counter said he could get me in today without an appointment and wouldn't be able to do so till the next day at 3:00 pm. I commented that he has 4 open bays but he quickly replied that because they are full service that I needed to make an appointment. As I left I watched the guy go back to the other 3 or 4 guys standing around doing what appeared to be nothing or maybe smoking cigarettes. When I got back to my office their website didn't say anything about being required to make an appointment. Dear Management: I showed up early. I live on the other side of town and decided upon your shop because it was close to my office. If you open at 7:00 per your business hours posted your business should also staffed accordingly to provide the services you advertise. I firmly believe there was plenty of staff to get my car a quick oil change and tire rotation. I can understand if other appointments were made. But for as many folks that were standing around doing nothing they could have all worked together to squeeze me in and get the job done before any other appointments arrived. I've used these guys the past couple of years but will be switching. On my last visit, the technician left with my tire lock and the manager refused to have him drive 5 minutes back to work, making me come back another day instead to pick it up later. Several other instances of techs not topping off fluids as promised in oil changes. They take a full hour to change your oil as well. The managers are typically friendly, but there's zero supervision/accountability over the tech guys in the back doing the actual work. read more
