Took my car to the dealership to diagnosis a faulty switch that was causing my headlights to go out. The dealership kept it a week only to inform me that it was a burned out bulb. I drove it off the lot and got a 1/4 mile and it was repeating the same issue. I emailed them videos of us driving with no lights. They couldn't get me back in for 4 days and once "diagnosed" it would take 2-3 days for the parts to come in. Called John Jay and spoke with Mike, he got me in right away, dropped the car off at 7:30, got a call at 10:30 with diagnosis and cost, by 3:30 my car was ready. And guess what?? Very professional! My old aunt had abandoned her 2001 Eldorado in her garage for over 18 months, and needed some TLC. Most importantly, they fix the problem with minimal drama and you can trust the repair. I had wasted thousands of dollars on two other shops trying to diagnose my Honda Pilot mysteriously shutting off and not starting. All with no fix. That resulted in a ton of frustration, wasted money, and wasted time on our part. JJA had it nailed the first day and even kept it another day to test and ensure. Pros: 1. Quality of work: Supreme. Top Shelf. This is the only shop, in Arizona, where I have not had to bring back a car because they botched something. They've worked on "regular" and "performance" cars for me. They have done everything from simple wheel alignments to check engine light-induced repairs to full-scale brake replacements. My last job for them involved replacing my mustang's GT's entire factory braking system (rotor discs, calipers, pads, etc) to Brembos. I do not trust any other shop in the phoenix metro area with the serious stuff. 2. Trustworthy: This is also rare. I've gone to other shops who have claimed I needed this or that, for thousands of dollars, only to come to John Jay and be told "No buddy, you don't need that". 3. Scheduling: They always do their best to fit you in and get to working on your car, whether it's a $70 routine job or $650 repair. No triaging over here. They also allow you to drop your car off the day before. Cons (somewhat): 1. Pricing: Labor price can be on the higher end but you truly get what you pay for. Other shops will charge 2/3rds of the price but you'll be going back and forth with that other shop after they botch a few things (I have stories for days). 2. Communication: It's hard to get in touch with them if you email or reach out via yelp. You won't really hear from them unless you call. read more

Since moving to Arizona I have had some lackluster experiences with other auto shops that left a bad taste in my mouth. After coming to John Jay Automotive, I can say that I plan on coming here for all of my auto needs now. I wanted my car to be checked out and see what preventative maintenance was recommended since it was getting up there in mileage. Scheduling an appointment was easy. You can call or submit a request online. The morning I dropped off my car, everyone I encountered was super nice. I got a call a few hours later letting me know what they found and what they recommended I get done. I appreciated several things about this interaction: First, I was not pressured into agreeing to any work. Each recommended action was described to me and priced out separately so I could get a feel for what went into the proposed total cost. The guy I spoke to on the phone told me to think about my budget and let them know so they could recommend the most critical services if necessary. Additionally, There were several items mentioned that I could keep an eye on, but was told that I did not need to worry about fixing at this time. I can't remember any other auto place that is as straightforward and actually provided practical recommended actions! I went ahead with all of the maintenance they recommended and the price point was extremely reasonable in my opinion. I've been quoted much more for the exact same services in the past and felt less confident with the service team. After picking up my vehicle, it drove like a dream and I have had no issues. They did a car computer diagnosis to determine what was wrong with my car in terms of the check engine light coming on. There was no charge for the diagnostics, and the honest opinion of what I should do was something I was very grateful for. They suggested it was nothing serious and that I should just replace the gas cap. Which I did. A week has gone by and the check engine light has not returned. If something else does go wrong with my car I will definitely check these guys out first. read more

I brought our SUV in to have the suspension looked at because it wasn't riding the same as when we first bought it 6 years ago. The diagnosis was: your struts are bad and needed to be replaced. They presented the repair quote and had the parts available. I was able to schedule the very next day and it took them only 5 hours to complete the work.
