On the morning of Thursday, April 17th, I stopped by Shadow Mountain Auto to see if they were able to take a look at my 2005 Kia Optima that had been overheating. They stated that they would be happy to, and they asked me how I heard about the shop initially. I told them I was referred by family members, as well as on local radio - Bumper to Bumper. They wanted to keep it overnight because they were busy and take a look at it on Friday - if not by Friday evening, then by Monday. I told him I needed to keep it running for at least one more year. I know visually it isn't the best looking vehicle, but it still runs well and gets me where I need to be. At this time, I also told him several times that the front driver and passenger locks do not work. I received a phone call late Friday and they informed me they had not had a chance to take a look at it yet, but they might be able to before they close. If not, then definitely by Monday morning. I received 2 texts over the weekend confirming an appointment on Monday morning. I did not hear from them on Monday or Tuesday. Tuesday night, on my way home from work I drove by and saw my vehicle backed in and not boxed in by other vehicles. On Wednesday afternoon, at approximately 3:30, since I still had not heard from them, I called to check on the progress. I was advised that my vehicle was "next up" to be brought in and looked at. At this time, I told them I needed my vehicle back because I couldn't go any longer without it as it had been a week. I asked them to leave the key in it because I would not be able to make it by closing time. I received no explanation as to why my vehicle was there for an  entire week and not even looked or why I was not contacted or updated as promised. They stated they would leave the key in the vehicle for me. I then received a phone call from them approximately 10 mins later saying that the front doors would not unlock or open and they did not know why. I reminded them of the locks not working in which they were unfazed. When I arrived that night, neither of the front doors would open on my vehicle so not only was I without a vehicle for a week, and it wasn't even looked at, but now my front doors will not open. Their attitude and demeanor was inconsiderate and it was very obvious they did not care to help keep this older vehicle running. I am disappointed in the service and attitude and the fact that no resolution was offered in the lack of attention/repair and now the new issue of the doors not operating. I was looking for a new mechanic shop, checked my nextdoor app for reviews. I saw a few of my neighbors highly recommend this place so we took my husband's work truck there for an AC repair. Graham was pleasant and responsive when making the appointment. He called as promised and explained what needed to be done. My husband was working so Graham took the extra time to explain to me what exactly was wrong with the AC and how they would be fixing it. I was very appreciative because I do not know much about AC repairs. I went ahead and approved the work and they had it done the same day for a very fair & reasonable price. Dropped vehicle off for inspection. Estimate for repair was $2,200. The estimate was completed very timely and staff seemed knowledgeable and courteous. I was shopping this work against the shop I typically go to to check how they compared. The shop I typically use completed the work for $1,250. I'm sure they do a great job, but the price difference is substantial so I am rating the experience a 2/5. I had to pay a $200 diagnostic fee to them and still got the work done for much less. I drove over a curb and scraped off the bottom plastic piece in the undercarriage of my car (embarrassing). Fortunately I did so right next to this auto shop. They told me they could replace the piece for $400, but frankly the piece was mostly unnecessary in this dry climate (appreciated the honesty). I told them just to cut it out. I was referred to this shop by a former employee who had only great things to say about them. I called to quote/schedule timing belt service labor for my truck. I was going to do it myself, but i got too busy and too hot outside. I spoke with Graham who told me they cannot use the OEM parts I had. I only use OEM parts and have never had a shop tell me off before. I know shops up-sell cheap parts all the time. Overhead sucks. My initial impression of this place was awesome but i was NOT thrilled when i discovered that the wiper replacement they said they had done was in fact not done at all, and the way i found out was by driving in the dumping rain in Flagstaff weeks later. Went to Shadow Mountain for AC service after recommended by a family member. They explained routine check which was fine, flush and reload ect, fine good first step.. Even though I explained the issues occurring they still "had" to do this first. They reported the coolant level being low and refilled, added die for leakage ect. They mentioned my schrader valve may be going so it could fluctuate and sent me on my way saying if it happens again they can replace the valve.... Why not offer to fix fully? I also asked for routine inspection as my family was about to road trip. Received a "ya, everything is fine" great way to generate extra revenue. Either way, hopped in my car and it did indeed have cool AC again. For about 1 week. Was to late, we were in route to California, as soon as we arrived I was blasting room temp to hot air. Ended up finding a highly rated mechanic in Carlsbad, who actually ran the diagnostic/error codes on my car (why didn't Shadow Mtn?) and immediately saw the issue. Replaced the part same day and actually have the coldest AC my car has ever had. 3 months later still no issues. Wouldn't recommend and doubt my family or relatives will return after this experience. P.S. My schrader valve was fine and had absolutely no issue, nor "swollen" o-rings. Wonder what else they missed. read more

2 things I found out today. 1. Yelp is my new consumer Bible. 2. Shadow Mountain Auto is my new 'toto' mechanic. Had to do 30k maint on one of my cars and did my cost estimate online. Expecting to pay $300+ from online information, I called Shadow Mtn and the guy told me around $200. Paid $140 when all done. Never in my life I paid less than what I expected on car repairs/maint. Another shop told me I need to replace my auto transmission oil at 30k, this people told me I didn't. I thought I need to replace my break shoes after I did my own 'half-ass' visual inspection, Shadow told me I didn't after they took a look at them. On oil changes, everyone else put a sticker on my windshield and said I needed to go back after 3000 miles, Shadow's says 5000 miles. These guys may not be the cheapest, but I know I will save money overall and never got any unnecessary service or repairs. Keep up the good work, Shadow. read more

You'll get the best service every time you come here. I've been coming for several years now and they go out of their way to answer questions and do extra things to make sure your car is taken care of. For example my boyfriend tried helping me by installing a brand new battery in my Infiniti M35, but it was loose and kept the car from starting. I brought it in to Shadow Mountain and they tightened and tested the battery and alternator - and didn't charge me a thing! They are also very honest about repairs and will never recommend something that doesn't need to be done. There have been times where the dealership "recommended" something be done to my car and then I brought it into Shadow Mountain and they said either it wasn't necessary or I still had X,000 miles before it needed to be done.
