Roy's Auto is one of the most overrated repair places in Phoenix! I've taken my car there on a few occasions and tried to use them on other and continually find that they have all the disadvantages of going to a dealership and none of the advantages. I've always understood that the advantages of using an independent repair shop should be price (dealership work is always pricey) and flexibility - a willingness to work with your situation. I've always been disappointed with Roy's prices, which are usually about the same as dealership quotes. And, unlike dealerships who can usually turn around most problems on the same day, parts availability notwithstanding, I constantly find Roy's can't do your job until some other day. On some occasions, I've been led to believe they could get the job done same day only to be disappointed when they called and said, "Sorry, we can't get to it today - too busy!" They're just not worth consulting. Find a better independent shop! read more

local customer looking for shop to trust and these guys did great and losing trust when they cant fix AC issue. This started with $1000 repair to replace a resistor, 3 1/2 months later have no AC on the same system. I go back and get the system checked 2 labor plus vacuum recharge and only replacing Schrader valves another $500 charge. 3 months later, not blowing cold again not under warranty and recommend a $1600 repair. Checked with actual mechanic and found valves were bad and system leaked. The system has been good since, not sure exactly what's going on with ownership or shop office but when I called them to tell them this they think it's funny. Also if you're ok with getting the interior head liner dirty from hand prints and owner says he "checked it" go to Roy's. read more

I bought a battery from Roy's with a 3 year warranty. My battery was failing due to cranking amps within the 2 year mark. I went to Roy's to get a replacement battery with no avail. Dave claimed that my terminals were bad and would not give me a new battery until I replaced the terminals. I had been to both Auto Zone and O'Reilly's and they both said that my terminals were fine. Needless to say, having to have been jumped several times, I went to Costco for a new battery. My car starts just fine now every time. My ex also works there. Coincidence, I think not! Would not recommend them to my worst enemy! read more

Took my 2014 Ram truck to them AFTER I already had major problems and repairs thru Brake Master; Midas and Sun Devil Auto in Mesa. My starter failed (or at least I couldn't start the engine". Roy's Auto took a look, and replaced the starter with a rebuilt unit (I didn't know it was rebuilt". That failed 48 hours later. They paid to have it towed across the street and replaced it with a OEM new unit. But determined the engine compression was Bad, and the engine Blown! I don't blame them, and they did what they said they would do. This DriveTime Glendale LEMON of a truck is a piece of crap, and should never have been sold. I should never have purchased it in the first place. That's on ME. I trusted the wrong people, and it cost me $10,000 in repairs. Should have gone to a Dodge Ram dealer in the first place. Sorry I didn't and sorrier I didn't run from DriveTime. NEVER AGAIN! read more

I've been using Roy's Auto for quite a few years now. They are the best! I've got an older car that I love (a 2001 Cadillac Deville) and I really want to keep it, which they totally understand and have expressed that they will help me do that. I've compared exact same services that I've gotten from other auto repair shops and their costs beat everyone else. One example is that I've had to have my front & passenger windows fixed through the years, as they come off the track, Roy's charge for this is WELL-BELOW any place I've had this done. There are other exact services I have done and they always undercut the costs. They are friendly (just ask for Dave!) and very prompt and professional. Several years ago, I had been using this business for my car repairs for a number of years. I had an issue with my car running warmer than normal (not overheating) and I took it there to find out what was wrong before it got bad enough that it would overheat. The technician diagnosed THREE problems being the coolant fan motor (makes sense), the coolant reservoir (due to an alleged leak) and coolant (because it ran slightly warmer than normal), while the thermostat and radiator cap should also be replaced claiming they should be replaced when the other work was done. Because of a long time using this shop, I trusted their diagnosis, but it bugged me how three things could go wrong at the same time, especially the coolant reservoir (I never noticed coolant below the car after it was parked) and coolant needing to be replaced when the car only ran warm without overheating (had a tough time believing it was that fragile). When I picked up my car, I retrieved the coolant reservoir and took it home to confirm myself if it was leaking. I confirmed it was not leaking first on my kitchen counter and then reinstalling on my car and subsequently returned to complain to the owner Kerry, who I had developed a professional relationship with over the years as he usually covered the front desk. He didn't seem concerned at all that I had verified his tech lied to me, but did refund me for the cost of the reservoir and labor of replacing it, but was reluctant to refund me for the radiator cap that was only replaced because the reservoir was recommended to be replaced and wouldn't have been replaced if an accurate diagnosis was made. An owner of a local auto shop I met around this time said coolant does not need to be replaced because the car runs slightly warmer than normal, but Kerry wasn't concerned about this contradiction after proving the false diagnosis on the reservoir. I called Roy's Auto yesterday to see if they could replace a lug nut on my 2007 FJ CRUISER which was stripped when Costco rotated my tires. And also wanted two rear shocks replaced which I had. I'm older so trusting is always a factor when I take my car into a new auto repair shop. I did check out all there reviews on Yelp the night before. My last auto repair shop i was going to also was trustworthy. But way to far to go when my car needed emergency care. They treated me right and fair and told me how it is , even took me to the back where my car was and showed me the problems as it was up on the lift. Thanks to David, Cody and the technician who did the work on my 2015 F-250. Transmission filter/gasket/fluid exchange and coolant flush and fill. David even told me the filter could go longer (Ford has a great tranny filter in there), but I asked him to change it anyway. Their labor rate is good and their parts mark-ups reasonable from this visit's experience. This was my first time in at the shop- one highly recommended by my very particular neighbor. They work on his '67 Stingray. They got the job done on time and everything checks out fine. I will be back for more service jobs. Thanks for being professionals. I had an engine change on the 1996 Explorer by John. It was cost effective, Roy's remained within the estimate and the results were excellent. There have been absolutely no issues since the change, the car runs like new, not a leak in the garage and milage is what Ford advertised for a new car. I was referred to bring my vehicle to Roy's Auto by a college professor and I'm so glad I did. As a woman, I often feel uncomfortable dealing with mechanics because of the concern that they'll over charge for services. I did not get this feeling at all with this mechanic shop. When I came here to get a quote for front breaks and rotors, David helped me. The quote they gave me was 50% less than what I had been given at another service vehicle. I came back a couple of days later and David treated me really nice. They checked what needed to be done with the breaks, and quoted me a really fair price. Plus, they did a good job on the break work. I also got a $10 gift card because I get 5% back as a AAA member. I must also add, their waiting area, feels so homey and clean and comfortable I felt like I was waiting inside someone's home with a comfy leather couch, and a nice living room with TV. The restroom is also very clean. My dog even loved the couch and snored herself to sleep while we were waiting for the car. Overall, I feel really good coming here to get my vehicle fixed and I will definitely come back for my next oil change and other work needed to be done on my car. Let me tell you...it DOES NOT MATTER that a business is 'family owned'. You can still get ripped off by a 'family owned' business. Unless you want to 'empty your pocket book' or drain your bank account, make sure you get a SECOND OPINION from another auto repair shop before you go with what David wants you to do at Roy's Auto! Any quote of $300.00 or more, I would get a second opinion. Will tell you why. Several months ago my A/C quit working. I took car to Roy's (as it was suggested to me by local business owner) to find out why a/c quit working. David at Roy's told me to my face that the a/c compressor quit working that it was no good. I had replaced a/c compressor in my suburban three years ago at another auto shop. Roy's quoted me a 'screaming deal' to have replaced. Told David at Roy's I would like to check with shop that replaced the original compressor. Well...a/c compressor had NOTHING wrong with it. It turned out to be a hose leak. Had repaired at other shop and freon recharged for minimal amount. Saved myself probably $1,000 by having second opinion. How can an auto mechanic shop make a boo boo like that??? THEN...second bad call by Roy's Auto. David told me I had NO back brakes and that I had a very bad safety issue! He did not know that I had JUST had them replaced at another auto repair shop just ONE month before. He wanted to charge me $400.00!!! The other shop that did the rear brakes only charged me $175.00. So...I am not saying they do not know how to fix vehicles....I am telling you that David will tell you things that need to be done to your vehicle that do not need to be done. It happened to me and he knew I was not working (furloughed) due to the pandemic. read more

We came here to have a 4Runner checked out before we purchased the used vehicle and there's a reason this place has 4.5 stars on yelp. Aside from the wonderful service and integrity of the guys at the shop, the front office is so much cleaner than most repair shops and super comfortable couches and a large waiting room will make anyone's wait enjoyable. I cannot stress enough how great the mechanics are and don't over charge or try to upsell on unnecessary repairs. The first thing you will notice is the spic and span waiting area. Go in the shop. Extremely well organized. You could eat a meal off the floor. Observe the mechanics. They all seem happy to work here. We take both or our cars to Roy's with complete confidence that they will be in good hands. Two examples of their honesty . . . Mitsubishi Dealer (all three of them) recommended that the timing belt be replaced immediately on Cathy's 70,000 mile, 2007 Endeavor at a cost between $300 - $500+ (the cost for the same work varied at each dealership). Roy's estimate was $00.00. The belt was in great condition and is rated to last 100,000 miles. The dual air in my 2004 Expedition broke. Dealer repair estimate was approximately $1,100 to fix. Roy's did it for less than $500. Need I say more? read more
