Would have thought that based on where this restaurant is located the food would live to the expectation but it really failed. The most bland salad, yes a salad gone wrong as the lobster had no flavor and was chewy. The drinks very pricey and barely tasted the vodka/rum and while the view is great, the experience of the food took away from enjoying. The place is overrated for what they serve. Wish I would have gotten more for the value. Well I did, the beach and pool views, that was it!

The Hotel Del Coronado just south of San Diego has been a landmark in this area since 1888; and it's in amazing condition. With 80° weather (I left Chicago yesterday at 7°) this place has been a God Send for me not used to such severe winter weather. Meeting some friends here at The Del, the Sun Deck Restaurant hasn't changed a lick. Their menu is light, breezy and fun. I opted for their Sun Deck Bowl with herb quinoa, beluga lentil, romanesco, baby tomato, sweet potato, beets, yellow pepper, tarragon vinaigrette, ninja radish, pea tendril, olive oil, that was very good. Is it expensive here at The Del Coronado - Yes! But you're getting an amazing view of the Pacific Ocean, at its best, the cliffs of La Jolla to the north and the Tijuana promontory to the south; price is no object with these views. The service was excellent and this entire lunch was exceptional! Coming back to a place you visited as a child, a young adult, an adult and now a senior, gave me a cycle of life that one rarely gets. Thank you Hotel Del Coronado!

We shared a delicious wahoo fish sandwich. The fish was seasoned perfectly, and the fries were scrumptious! The pina colada was lovely as we watched the waves roll in from our table. The service was a bit slow, but the ambiance made up for it. Highly recommend.

Last time I enjoyed quality fun time at the Sun Deck was years back when I had a boyfriend who loved sun bathing there beer in hand. I had not been often but last Friday they converted the place into 'Moon Deck's to welcome the Artemis back. So I had to be there at the splashdown ! It was great to have the special cocktail for the occasion with the little astronaut and the atmosphere was amazing and exciting. Everything was packed and some people had paid $175 to reserve the sofa in front of the TV broadcasting the event, although everyone was able to be there for free, no cover and not obligations which is appreciated. Dogs were welcomed and, as usual at this bar terrace with views, I love the electric crowd, kids included, the views, the food and service. All great.

I have been here before. Today I just came for a beer. Service was quick and I was able to seat right away. I'm sure it's due to the time of day. The bartender was cordial and made great recommendations on beer. The ambiance here is always lively. I was hoping for a lot more Holiday decore around this part of Hotel Del but they fell short. The views are always a plus and although the prices are a bit high, they are not horrible.

My coworker and I were here for nursing conference. Having never been here, we wandered around and ended up stumbling onto the Sundeck. The seating area is located upstairs where you have a beautiful vantage point over the property and beach. Some tables merely have an umbrella. Others have nice soft cushions around table fire pits. I suppose I should have known that prices would be high here. The drinks clocked in for the price of a meal. And we ended up sharing two shrimp tostada tapas just to stave off our hunger. The shrimp was juicy was well cooked. The cojita added a nice contrasting saltiness. The bean paste, corn puree, and tomato relish added some nice zestiness to the dish without making it soggy. Our server was very attentive until it was time for the tab. Then she was nowhere to be found. But overall it was a good dining experience with a wonderful view, although overpriced for what it was.

Surprisingly good food and fast service! We stopped by because we were hungry and happened to be in the area -- and I'm so glad we did. As soon as we sat down, someone came right over with menus and let us know our server would be with us shortly. Enter Chris, our awesome server! I asked for a sweet drink recommendation, and he suggested the Hotel Del Colada -- their take on a piña colada. It was spot-on: sweet but not too sweet, creamy, and super refreshing. My boyfriend went with the "Some Like It Blond" beer, which he said was just okay. For food, we shared the San Diego Fish Sandwich, and wow -- it was a great choice! Big enough to share, perfectly crispy, and paired with hot, golden fries that hit the spot. The views here make it even better -- ocean on one side and the iconic Hotel del Coronado on the other. Perfect spot to relax, grab a drink, and enjoy some good food with a view.

Sun Deck - Hotel del Coronado Review Beautiful view and a very iconic spot, but definitely very touristy. Expect big crowds if you go. We ordered two cheeseburgers at $32 each, and honestly, I was expecting something amazing for that price. Unfortunately, it was very disappointing. The meat was greasy and had a strange texture--it actually felt off in my mouth after just a few bites. I was really hungry and still couldn't finish it. For comparison, even In-N-Out tastes much better and is probably higher quality. When I asked the waitress, she seemed surprised to learn the meat might have been frozen. Overall, the food felt like overpriced junk. I wouldn't recommend eating here. Save your money and go somewhere else for food--but definitely come for the view and maybe just have a drink.

I had lunch with my family here while our room was being readied and I have to admit it was good ( expensive just because it's resort dining and the view) and satisfying! We had the Del burger double cheese and fries and my wife had the shrimp tostadas while my mother in law got the fish sandwich. The portions are pretty large and be sure to snag a table with an umbrella for shade - I was surprised there weren't that many shaded tables for a large resort ( same for the pool area) but it was sufficient Pro tip the kids burger is cheaper with one less meat patty but enough for a kid up to 13 years old - anything to save you money ! The service was great the two times I ate there and everyone was nice and cordial - didn't have to wait that long - I added photos of the tacos from the taco shack as a bonus review and tbh I would skip it - for $12 you get a smallish taco just not worth it you will will be hungry! Love Hotel Del for so many things but for cheaper food definitely check out the local restaurants for better bargains

The location and view is stunning - absolutely a 5, Food is fairly mediocre and overpriced.- I'd rate it a 3, so 4 overall. I ordered the Wahoo fish sandwich ($30). The server gave it to me, I bit into it, and realized it was the burger ($32). When they came back out with the fish sandwich, I asked if I could swap, but they said no because I had already taken a bite. Oh well. Was not great, especially for $32, cheese tasted like fake American cheese, and the lettuce was shredded iceberg like you would get in a cafeteria. It also only came with ketchup and 1000 Island dressing, no mustard, had to ask for that. I was doing Dry February, so tried two of their mocktails - strawberry lemonade (too sweet), and the grapefruit Mojito, which I asked them to make with just a dash of simple syrup, not too sweet, and it was very good. Overall, it is a gorgeous location and view, and worth a stop to enjoy the view and beautiful San Diego.

First time to Coronado , and stopped in this place . The hotel look was super awesome ! Loved the super colonial interiors and the overall look . It is very very expensive though. There was a bar inside but we decided to sit outside , bear the pool . The waiter was a bit slow but made sure he took care of us . They had flew varieties of beer and IPAs . Got hazy ipa and it was good . It was very expensive though .had to spend 14$ for an ipa and we spent about 50$ for 3 of us , one drink each ! Absolutely expensive : the overall ambience was ok though. Nice view of beach and pool . 3 stars

    The watermelon skewers are incredible!

The Sun Deck also serves the pool where are utilize their services for five days this past June. Note, the pool is a vintage rectangle which has been there forever and suits the remodeled vintage hotel perfectly! Classic chaise lounges abound. All the food we had from the salads to the chips and salsa were good! My wife is a light eater and they let her order the kid's menu stuff which was very accommodating.... Drinks all week were good but because they were at the pool were served in plastic.. Overall, a fantastic place to spend hours and hours of your day ....

From the spooky, dark, skulls old school ambiance and decor, to the experience of not ordering from a menu, everything about it made it feel unique and curated making it feel like a true individualized experience. As mentioned, there are no menus. We sat at the bar, the bartender makes casual conversation with you regarding the types of drinks you enjoy. He curated something for both my husband and I based on what we shared we enjoyed. The drinks were delicious. The entry was very cool! It felt as if you were entering a hidden spot - which you do. When you enter the restaurant, you let the hostess know you're there for the Noble Experience. She let us know to head to the wall with the kegs (which is actually a door). You enter and there's a small waiting area where you're greeted by another hostess. This place is a 20/10. We can't wait to return on our next visit to SD.

Before I get started on the hundreds of amazing things to say about this place, let's start off with one "annoying" thing. It was hard to find. There were absolutely no signs in the hotel pointing you to where the restaurants would be. We also asked several hotel staff members and got even more confused. Once we found the little strip of several restaurants, we accidentally walked right past it thinking it was apart of the NoBu restaurant. Now that I know where it is, I'll know exactly where to go. Let's talk about all the GOOD! The view was beautiful. There were lots of kids playing on the grass in front of the restaurant but the way they set up the place, it wasn't loud at all and cute to see. The staff members were on top of their game. Nothing went unnoticed! They all worked as a team. The Knowledge about the restaurant, the food, and the drinks was very impressive. Even if you couldn't decide, they would happily guide you to make the right choices. - I want to give a shoutout to Mark our waiter. He was an absolute delight. He was witty, knowledgeable, lead us in the right direction, and spoiled us for our birthday celebration dinner. He made the experience 10x better. About the food...I'm still thinking about the delicious food they served and it's been weeks since I was there. I want to put extra attention on the halibut ceviche, WOW! That needs to be a staple is you visit, it's a must try. Also please don't ever take this off the menu! I would solely travel out here just for the alone and buy 5 at a time (yes it was that good). The sauce they put it in makes my mouth water just thinking about it. Everything here is very unique and worth it. There wasn't one bad food item at all. Plus the drinks, were so smooth. If for whatever reason you wanted to alter your drink (like someone at my party did) they were happy to accommodate and then they also executed perfectly. It is a little bit on the pricier side, but once you experience the service, the extra care, and the delicious food you can confidently say it's worth it. I hope more people experience this place, they deserve more than five stars.

With all the hype on the menu and the creativity in the design, I will say that Breakfast this morning was fair to poor We ordered the melon and Stracciatella... for the amount of money we paid for this dish. You could've at least given us some heirloom melon instead of the basic unripened, honeydew and cantaloupe with a bit of salt, shaved, mint, and strata, right out of the package. Poorly done. Also, your Baklava French toast, This had nothing to do with baklava because you candied a few pistachios and put an anglaise on the bottom of the plate. Then topped it with some strawberry marmalade. Which again has nothing to do with baklava. Perhaps you could've put some kataifi Filo on there and given it the real crunch that it deserved. Again for the price we paid. This was also poorly done. Enjoyed your pitaquillas they were flavorful and unique and creative, but I'll tell you overall this meal did not meet the price whatsoever. Once again we pay for the seat and the view and not the food. While our server was a gentlemen, his knowledge and education of the menu definitely was a good reflection of his seasoned training, but he did not carry throughout the service. He was pretty distant for long periods of time such as almost 15 minutes before we were even greeted and then long periods of time throughout our meal and even looking for him again to get our check once the manager was sent to go retrieve him. With an establishment this large, and such high standards. I expect much more. Hotel Del you got a lot to learn and so does your management in allowing a menu of this caliber to be sold at these prices at such a landmark establishment ***** $49 to have my vehicle parked whaaaat, and the Valet asked me how long I'm gonna be here. Lol you just parked a $111,000 EV Hummer. Leave me alone. It's none of your business. As long as I'm spending $200 to $300 and having some meals, I'll stay here as long as I want. Just park my car ...lol i'm walking on the beach too. You can find me there.!

The service was excellent so that's all I'm going off of. The menu did look pretty fire though, so I'd be willing to give it another shot cause for all intents and purposes, the other people in the restaurant seemed to be really enjoying the food! But anyways... I'm a skillet cookie connoisseur. Any place that has a skillet cookie, I'm going there SOLEY to order it. If I ever get married, instead of having cake, my guests will be having skillet cookies for dessert instead. Some might say I love skillet cookies even more than Scottie Scheffler. My love for skillet cookies runs deeper than the Mariana trench and I've been to more than (at least) 11 restaurants to exclusively try them out. With that out of the way... I'm horrified to report this is the worst skillet cookie I've ever had in my entire life. It somehow felt overcooked, yet undercooked at the same time. It was also like they cooked it at an angle. Because it awkwardly occupied 3/4ths of the skillet. It had the consistency of a cake but the taste of a cookie? It was like they couldn't decide whether or not they wanted to make a cake or a cookie. So instead, they decided to half bake something that was in between. I couldn't believe it. It was also completely lacking in the chocolate chip department. All in all, this skillet cookie had a worse performance than Michael Jordan during his high school varsity tryouts. I'll admit it too... I completely lied to the waitress when she came over and asked me how the cookie was. Instead of telling her the truth, I gave her two thumbs up and said, " it's good!".... It was not good. It was terrible! I'm a coward.

Parking is a nightmare good luck finding parking within a mile of the restaurant. Pros: atmosphere, drinks, service Cons: food wasn't great for the price, restaurant was small and crowded, no parking Service: All of our servers were friendly and very accommodating. Gave us some knowledge on the menu and recommended cocktails based on our preference. I had spilled my drink and they were quick to make me another one. Food: I had intended to get the prime ribeye cap steak but they ran out for the night around 8pm. I shared the steak sampler which came with four different cuts of steak and 4 sauces. I ordered medium and it was cooked medium/medium rare which was fine with me, it also had a good sear, almost burnt though. Out of the four steaks, we only liked two based off flavor and tenderness. The other two were more tough and gamey. None of the sauces really stood out but the bordelaise and horseradish were good. For our sides we got fries, roasted broccoli, and the grilled wedge salad. Fries were average. The roasted broccoli had really good flavor, I expected the broccoli to be al dente but it was cooked to mush and drenched in sauce. The grilled wedge salad was decent, there was a slightly bitter taste to it. I know it says grilled wedge but the experience of biting into the salad and it being both hot and cold was not pleasant. Cocktails: I tried the Honey Ryder and New Wave. These were recommended as the more fruity/sweet cocktails. You can definitely taste the alcohol but it's only 2oz so it's not too strong. Ambience: 10/10 I got seated downstairs by the bar. Only thing about downstairs is that it's too dark to take photos unless you use flash. Overall, I agree with the other reviews saying to go just for drinks and appetizers. I would go again just to sit upstairs and get drinks and take pictures. We left unsatisfied and ended up getting in-n-out after.

My brother found this place several years ago on his visits to SD. It's now become a regular spot…read morewhenever we are in town. Most recently we were there for an event and as always, they were nothing short of exceptional! The drinks are always fantastic but what really elevates this place is the staff. They always have the best attitude, they are so accommodating, and you can tell they want you to enjoy your experience in every way. During our most recent visit, Lamar really went above and beyond to ensure our group was able to all be together for an event. I'm so very grateful for his assistance and wanted to say thank you again for everything! This place is an absolute must each time we visit, and I would highly recommend adding it to your list to try!

Staff was also not very attentive to guests' needs, rather just going through the motions. For instance, they noted "standing room only" and that they would eventually seat our party of two. They walked us to an exact spot on the floor to stand and view the menu in the dark (we used our phone flashlights, but it wasn't easy while carrying our belongings too), and they instructed us not to order at the bar in this colorful but dimly lit tiki lounge. We essentially ordered from staff who took our order in the middle of the floor, then we had to hold our drinks, some that came with additional shot glasses, in full hands, as we were never seated. We did find a barrel to set our drinks on later, but their process and expectations for guests was just really weird and impractical. The theme and decor of the setting was lovely, with moments of a lightning and thunder effect that made the experience more immersive. But we were not impressed by the sticky menus and sticky floor, nor the lack of service and minimal help from staff while there. We made the most of our time at False Idol regardless of their shortcomings. The bombay sling and enigma de muerte were pretty decent in quality and flavor, so it's safe to say the drinks aren't the problem here. And though we probably won't return, it was cool for a one-time experience.
