The Hubs and I decided to do a little staycation in Coronado Bay for our birthday last year, and let me tell you.. we can't resist a hotel bar. Located at the Loews Coronado Bay Resort, you will find the lounge right at the center of the lobby. You'll find seating at the bar, or there is a comfy lounge area with cozy chairs / couches and plenty of TV's to enjoy local San Diego sports, as well as a great view of the city skyline while you're seated outside by the fire pit. The menu has plenty of food and drink options for both dinner and happy hour. While the HH menu may be a bit limited, you're still sure to find something to enjoy - A Burger, Hummus & Pita, or Fries, as well as a few more options. The dinner menu is where it's at - Shareable's, Flatbreads, Salads, Steaks, Chicken Sammies, Desserts and a Kid's menu for those traveling with little ones. I opted for local Craft Beer to drink {a good IPA, of course}, while The Hubs opted for the delicious Old Fashioned. For dinner on our first night, we decided to share the Cay's Double Cheeseburger - topped with Smoked Bacon, Cheddar, Lettuce, Tomato and a House-Made Dressing {w/ Raw Onions on the side for me} and a side of Parmesan & Garlic Truffle Fries. This is the perfect combo and satisfied every craving. Whether we were at the bar for dinner or simply drinks, we were tended to by Elijah, who was absolutely wonderful. He was beyond friendly, always had a smile on his face and engaged patrons in the most mindful manner. When he overheard us mentioning our birthday, he caught us on our way out to dinner and told us to stop by the bar when we returned - We swung by for a nightcap and he surprised us with a complimentary dessert - A warm Brownie with a Bourbon Caramel Glaze and Vanilla Ice Cream. Located directly through the resort's reception area, this waterfront restaurant boasts one of its best features right out the gate: spacious patios with sweeping views of the bay, including a view of the Coronado Bridge. The setting is undeniably beautiful and relaxing, making it an appealing choice for a leisurely lunch or sunset dinner. We arrived shortly after opening and were seated promptly. Unfortunately, the service after that point was noticeably slow. The menu offered a good variety (see my pics of two menu pages), and we opted for the Fish and Chips along with the Greek Salad. The Fish and Chips arrived with a crisp, light batter encasing tender white fish. It was paired with a spicy remoulade that added a little zing. However, my request for malt vinegar took quite a while to be fulfilled, and as shown in my photo, it arrived in only a small dish -- not ideal for such a classic pairing. The fries were average, though the garlic parmesan sprinkle was a nice touch. The Greek Salad, pictured, was very basic in presentation but fresh. The lemon oregano vinaigrette was good, but not particularly memorable. A point to note: the grilled chicken you see on top of the salad was an additional $12 - something to consider if you're watching costs. While we enjoyed a few drinks with our meals, the final bill totaled $150, including tip, for lunch for two. We ate at the Cays lounge twice. One time at night upon arrival. And a second time for lunch. Late night- ordered spicy honey pizza and prawn cocktail. Food tastes good. The server was just okay because we had to ask for utensils. The bartender was nice when he provided me with a to go box for my leftover pizza. He was hospitable in also informing me that I can request a microwave to warm up my food. Fun vibe. Everyone here was watching the Padres game so it was cool. Lunch bites- decided to eat outside. Since the menu was exactly the same, I asked if I can order the turkey club which says only available for late night bites. They accommodated and I was happy with my meal. Many seating options outside - tables or sofas. They even have music speakers outside playing music while you enjoy the view. If you wanted to eat on the sofa with the fire in front of you, that's an option too. It's a bit pricey, but you're at a resort far away from everything so it's expected. read more

Came here a couple times while staying at the resort. Located right off the lobby, you can sit at the bar, inside lounge area, or outside. There are tables outside on the upper level and some couches on the lower level. You're harder to see on the lower level so you may have to alert servers that you're there, especially at night when it's dark. We had the Caesar salad, burger, fish and chips, and truffle fries. The burger and fries were tasty and the fish and salad were fine. The views and ambience were really nice. The service was friendly and helpful. Average size prices and portions for a resort in this area. $10 parking if you are just staying a couple of hours and not overnight. read more

HANGING OUT IN THE CAYS (3.8 stars) After taking the 22' Hurricane Powerboat out on the water for some spins, we decided to continue drinking and get something to eat around the Coronado Cays and found ourselves at the resort. Fancy resort lounge wasn't our main pick of a restaurant but since we were at the Cays already why the heck not! The menu had offerings we all liked and we were fine with eating there regardless of inflated resort lounge prices. ENDLESS SUMMER ($15) - Summer citrus vodka, Lillet Blanc, mint, sparkling lime & yuzu, grapefruit, aromatics & botanicals from our garden. Lol our entire table ordered an endless summer because we didn't want our summer to end. It was so freshening! HIGHLY RECOMMEND HAMBURGER ($12) - I ordered from the kids meal section because I in general eat small portions and hate ordering large portions and food going to waste. The meal did come with fries. Basically, it's The Cays burger minus all the burger fixings and half the price but portion was mosdef generous to be a kids meal. When it came out I was surprised and satisfied. It was a kids meal so obviously no medium rare meat. The bun was lightly toasted and good fluff and texture. It was a basic burger and I had requested to add some lettuce, it wasn't the most amazing burger ever but it was fair! The fries were perfectly crispy. RECOMMEND. JUMBO SHRIMP COCKTAIL ($22) - Spicy cocktail sauce, lemon. Pricy for 5 pieces of jumbo prawns. But the prawns were super good! I considered ordering another order but was already full. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Honestly, some people overlook hotel lounges because they are pricy. But in Metropolitan cities I've lived in I found comfort hanging out at hotel lounges - if that be eating, drinking, or just shooting the ish with friends or colleagues. Cays Lounge is located in the Loews Coronado Bay Hotel and sits in the middle of the lobby...actually, you see Cays Lounge before you see the front desk. I have visited the hotel a few times and always stop by Cays Lounge for cocktails, lunch or dinner...or a combination of two out of the three. My most recent visit found us bellied up to the bar both nights of our stay for pre-dinner and post-dinner cocktails, and in between this we found ourselves having a quick lunch in the lounge area of Cays Lounge. Drink wise, they are a full service bar with a house created cocktail menu, beers, wines, specialty spirits and even cigars. I usually go with a classic Gin and Tonic, and it has never once failed me! On the food side of things, I had the Grilled Chicken Club with Fries, and honestly I was impressed! The chicken was thick and nicely seasoned and you top anything with bacon and it is hard to complain about. My peers got the pizza and poke, separately of course, and both were excellent! Outside of the actual bar and interior lounge space, there is an amazing outdoor dining and lounge space right outside the bar area. There are standard tables, lounge seating and even fire pits. And the view isn't too shabby either! Overall, Cays is a great hotel bar and lounge...one that I will continue to visit each time I pop into Loews Coronado! read more

This lounge in the main lobby of the Loews Coronado resort was fantastic. Great service, beautifully decorated for the holidays (massive gingerbread house), and amazing cocktails. My favorite part of relaxing in the lounge after a long day was the amazing musician that played keyboard and sang beautifully. They have live music Saturday. Didn't want to leave.. so good! They had a massive tv where my happy husband was able to watch college football while sipping his old fashioned. This resort is located a few miles from downtown Coronado so it is really isolated which makes it important to have a good lounge/bar area since leaving the hotel Is a hassle. read more

This is a very nice bar inside the lobby at Loews in Coronado. We always get special attention here, but this time it was provided by Scott. He's just so mellow and interesting. He is friendly and professional and just nice to chat with. We also always seem to meet other really nice folks who are also staying at Loews. The drinks are great as is the food. My favorite part is that my dog can join me in the bar. I can't recommend this place any higher, especially if you just want a low key - convivial experience. read more

Great hotel restaurant and excellent customer service. The front desk and staff are all super friendly and great you as you walk by. You can place your to go order using an app or website, make sure to ask for it. It really helps out if your in a rush to check out and can set up your pick up time. Replace pokes and sashimis (which no one really likes) with something popular like nachos or pizza. You are a large Groupon type banquet hotel, so act like one! Very spacious lounge w/ much to offer. Situated immediately by the checkin/ reservations counter- you can help yourself to the many sofas, chairs, or bar stools. There are quite a few electrical outlets to plug in your devices! Contemporary decor- nothing too bougie or white leather chic. There's a wall length tv playing sports (I'm not a fan, but, I'm sure you can ask the bartender to switch to a different game if need be). Gorgeous view of Coronado Bay & warm inviting gas fueled fireplace. There's a bar serving beers on tap, bottled, wine, & hard liquor. A limited menu for quick bites- but, not all finger foods, might I add! I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich w/o bun. It did come w/ a side of shoestring fries which were cooked to perfection. The chicken breast was accommodated w/ wild sautéed mushrooms, smoked provolone, and truffle aioli! Spinach leaves were tucked inside the lettuce wrap! Very filling and delicious. I could've hung out here all day and night. The views are lovely, and the lounge furniture makes for a leisurely visit. I highly recommend the basil ginger martini. Service was so spot on! There aren't too many food options, but the mushroom flatbread was decent. Firepits at night also add to the cozy ambience. read more

The food menu is underwhelming, small in size and mostly unhealthy. The food I ordered was good, but only because of the spice of the peppers (cherry peppers and habanero jack) and the chicken. The presence of white potato fries and and white ciabatta bread was disappointing. There was no chance to upgrade to a sweet potato fry or wheat baguette etc... Service was also slow. You seat yourself, but then the time it takes for a server to locate you on the patio is a bit too long. We sat there wondering if we missed a hostess somewhere and if anyone would ever come over. Once a server came she promptly took our order. Another person brought the food out to us. He was clueless as to table numbers and wandered all over the entire patio with our food even offering our two entree plates to a group of three women that were standing up! While we did most of our onsite dining at Crown Landing, we did make a couple of stops (one for lunch, one for drinks) to Cays Lounge, which is also in the lobby of the Loews Coronado Bay. The server we had for lunch was friendly, but overly attentive (he came over and asked how we were doing once we had our food way too frequently), while the bartender serving us drinks dismissed my order of a listed beer on the menu and gave me something else on tap instead...basically two different extremes, both of which weren't great. Given the cool temperatures while we were there, we stayed inside both times, but I would recommend sticking with the carpeted area near the giant TV and faux fireplace, as the bar seating and (especially) the loose tables to the left get a lot of draft from the lobby entrance. The layout may work better when it's warmer outside, but it's not ideal during winter afternoons and evenings. As for the food and drink, it's a step down from Crown Landing for sure - the beer selection is on par and might be a tad better, but the cocktail list is more basic (i.e. sticks with the familiar drinks) and doesn't have the same quality to the ingredients or mixing...definitely feels like a very average cocktail preparation. The food is also a bit wanting; I did the burger here and found the patty to be uninspiring and bland, while the mix of house sauce and tomato jam offered a discordant mix of the sweet and savory. The fries were a bit crispy on the outside but lacked depth (as well as salt), and the house salad was decently-sized but standard otherwise. Perhaps the lounge area works better when it's better weather, and one can take in the sunset from the patio seating by the fire pits. Based on what we did experience, though, I would stick with getting food at either Silver Strand Exchange (if looking for something casual and more on-the-go) or Crown Landing, which is more formal dining but still pretty casual - as well as much better food and drink. read more

We decided to go check out this hotel and ended up getting a drink at this bar. The view is out of this world (downtown sd and Coronado bridge/bay view). My hubby got a old fashion which was perfectly made and I got a titos mule which was strong and delish. We sat at one of the tables inside but you can sit outside on the outdoor patio. Lobster roll was the first I've ever had but was very good. Carnitas potato skins were cooked perfect and very flavorful. Service was good and prices reasonable. Beautiful view from the outside seating area with shade, sun, and umbrellas for daytime. Nighttime offers fireplaces and a great place to stop for a late night snack or drink. read more

Wow. The service here was horrid. I was here for work and stayed an extra day to enjoy the island. Since the folks in the cafe and store were really helpful, I wanted to try out the place for breakfast with a few other friends in the hotel. First, we needed to move tables to accommodate another couple. While that should be a relatively easy thing since there were other open tables, that took 10 minutes. Our new waiter acted with a pretty sour attitude for the rest of the meal. Not only was he not helpful, but it was obvious he didn't want to be there. Therefore, we didn't want to be there. The food was great and I just wish the service matched at least the food quality. read more

I already left a review for the Loews hotel itself. The restaurant/bar lounge in the lobby that has a balcony as well needs a review. The atmosphere and balcony are very nice. The food sucks. For a resort that should be 4 or 5 stars they seem to really lack behind. The ceviche and crab cakes were both marginal at best. The presentation was fine but the taste was somewhat gross. Both had a artificial or chemical taste to them. Maybe not the freshest ingredients or items from a can, not sure. We both thought it should have been so much better. Even the mimosa was average at best. We had breakfast the day before at hash house a go go downtown and their mimosa was 10 times better. I don't even like mimosa's as it's not my drink of choice. Either way, don't waste your money here. Go into downtown or eat somewhere on the island. read more

We keep a boat in their marina, so we are there a lot.The place has been recently redone, remodeled,new menu, new chef, etc. etc. We decided to give it one more try.......... It is so much better, we ate here a few days ago and it is actually quite good, and you can bring your own wine, no extra charge ! They are starting a weekend prime rib buffet - we will be trying that next. The prior reviews were spot on for last year, and accurate.
