    "Double sesh"
    Audrey S.

We went during our Covid-versary celebration! Decided to drive to San Diego for a road trip! First off this is located inside the Hotel Del Coronado which is a beautiful place even just to walk around, so that's what we basically did... There was a line when we got there but come to find out the line was moving pretty fast so we decided to fall in line. You scan the menu on your phone from the sign they had so at least you can decide what you want while we wait in line. The tacos are pretty good, we got the shrimp taco. We also got the double sesh drink served in a pineapple and it was gorgeous! I guess they made too much so they gave us the rest in cups! So that was cool, we finished our pineapple and took our 2 extra drinks and walked around the beautiful campus of the hotel! I would come back here for sure!

This place is probably one of the best kept secret spots on the coast. Its right on the boardwalk in front of hotel Del. They recently renamed this place the beach shack and it litteraly is a shack they have a tiny bar seating area but more seating is available across the walk right on the beach. You cant beat the location to sit down and enjoy a beverage or 2. Martin was pouring some good drinks and the tacos were on point. It wasnt cheep but you cant put a price on that sunset location. We had a great time people watching ,eating and sipping on whiskey. Ohh its a full bar with some local breweries on tap so thats nice. They dont have set hours but they do close when the sun goes down, so plan on arrival well before sundown and you will be just fine.I will be coming back for sure very soon.

Way overpriced for a little shack on the beach when you can bring your own food and sit in the same spot for much cheaper. We got one beer ($10), one small margarita ($20) and two SMALL tacos and the bill was $45 before tip. There is no waiters or waitresses. The Margarita was fine but nothing special. The tacos were also good but just good. Not great and definitely not worth the price but I guess the location is pretty good. I recommend just bringing your own food and sitting in the beach chairs or on a towel next to the shack.

This bar was perfect to end our 22 nd wedding anniversary! Got the ordered the double sesh it was yummy and served in a pineapple!

It's a little on the spendy side but seriously so amazing. Best tacos I've had in a long time and the drinks are pretty good too.

This is a great place for a mid afternoon snack and a glass of wine or beer by the ocean. Fun location at the Hotel Del, out on the beach, watching the waves come in. It's a relatively expensive bar with a short list of great tacos. I would recommend this for a mid afternoon snack before dinner.

Beach shack. Marlyn the bartender was very unprofessional and rude to paying customers

The bartender named Martin was very rude and unprofessional, yelled at paying customers to step back and put mask over nose.. and proceeded to say "can you not read the sign and step back and fully put your mask on" ridiculous. Short guy with white shirt on. I was here last weekend as well and the weekend before and he did not seem like he wanted to serve us while displaying a bad attitude. I will not be buying drinks from this establishment again. Very unprofessional. I hope the owner instills some good characteristics in this individual.

    Great drink maker

We didn't really have any preference for seating, we were sat in their outdoor dining / patio and it was a vibe. A really really chill SD night kind of vibe. We decided to share a variety of oysters, the crispy calamari (delicious and loved the bed of arugula), greek fries (tzatziki and feta), patatas bravas, Greek style grilled chicken, and buttered pasta for the kids. Unfortunately, our most recent visit was one of the strangest and most disappointing restaurant experiences we have had in a long time. We brought a guest visiting from out of town and were honestly embarrassed by how poor the experience was from start to finish. The restaurant was only about one quarter full on a weekday evening, yet service was shockingly slow and disorganized. It started with our server fumbling through reservation lists trying to find our name, then acting annoyed when we ordered specific cocktails. At one point, he even asked if we were "old enough to drink," which came off as rude and bizarre. The first round of drinks took around 20 minutes and arrived poorly made. We then waited another 40 minutes just to place entree orders, despite barely seeing our server after appetizers arrived. Ordering a second round somehow went even worse. The server rolled his eyes, made annoyed noises, and acted inconvenienced that we were ordering more drinks at a restaurant charging premium prices. One drink, a dirty martini, took about 30 minutes and arrived with a greasy film on top from bleu cheese olives sitting in it far too long. We asked for a manager, who apologized but then asked whether we wanted sweet or dry vermouth in a dirty martini, which did not inspire much confidence. The remake came back not dirty at all and had to be remade again. After nearly two hours, our entrees finally arrived. The plates were dropped on the table without a word. The chicken and fish were passable, but the sides were awful. Cold, lifeless, and completely forgettable. The broccolini was especially bad. We complained again, and the manager offered to comp the bill. Even then, it took another long wait just to close out. I eventually handed the server $100 cash because we simply wanted to leave and still tip something despite the experience. He then shoved the check open in my face and said, "There's your bill." What made this so disappointing is that we used to love this place. It was somewhere we proudly brought visitors. Instead, we left apologizing to our guest for how uncomfortable and confusing the entire night was. We do not care about free food or comps. We care about receiving a decent dining experience at a restaurant charging $30 cocktails and premium entree prices. Serea has declined dramatically, and management needs to take a hard look at both service standards and overall execution. Do better.

A gal took over his tables but she didn't tell us she was the new server so we kept looking for him as we didn't want to bother her with the fact that our drinks didn't come, the order of strawberries were missing, and we wanted a refill of our waters. You're probably wondering why I'm still giving 5 stars. lol Not enough restaurants have unique, fun, and delicious items on the menu. This place was also busy so I like to give some grace for that. The French onion soup was excellent. The French dip was so fun with the tableside cheese. They have 2 different menus, one for breakfast and the other for dinner and you can't combine them so pay attention to what time you make resis (which is highly recommended to do).

It was very nice and fun to people watch while eating brunch. It was a little noisy being seated so close to your neighbors. Was expecting to be wowed by service, taste, etc... and just wasn't. Medium burger was raw on one side?? not sure how that could even happen unless it was frozen or something? The short rib was good but again not amazing. We had the fancy Hot Chocolate Croissant with fresh creme and strawberries. The Croissant was a little touch to eat... had to use a knife to cut through it. I'd pass on the croissant next time and stick with the hot chocolate, strawberries, and creme. The service started super slow, almost twenty minutes before anyone acknowledged we were seated (had to ask for server). Once the server arrived it was fast and friendly. Manager did swing by to check in on us but by then we were boxed up and walking out the door.

The food is good I guess. The wagyu taco had a nice flavor and the greens with the sauce made it work. I don't think it's actually wagyu, but the word is pretty much meaningless at this point. For the crust, I found it to be way too chewy rather than light and flaky. I couldn't even cut it with my spoon anymore and had to pick up a long thing of crust and pull it apart with my teeth. I will allow that the gravy and other contents are bland and generic since if it had as much flavor as I actually want, other customers will be complaining about it. But the crust I cannot forgive. Overall it was not bad though. Surprisingly, my favorite item was the brussels sprouts. Even with all the seasoning and cheese, I found the flavor to be well balanced. Even after most of the plate, I noticed I didn't find it too salty. I really like the menus in the crappy brown folders. (5/5) Our waitress: Kelly, was a sweetheart, informative, mindful on consistent check-in's for refills, drinks, going over steps of the menu (e.g. - small bites, entrees, dessert, didn't feel rushed or too pushy, and considerate on time, and promptness). The waiter that came by mid-video to do the torch component of the butters we added on to our meats was great, I love that it's table side because it enhances the experience to the ambiance and you can squeeze a little video in. If you do go for your birthday, as I did, they provide you with a dessert outside of their choices, however, we did overindulge a bit. Overall, I had a phenomenal experience for my birthday dinner, the music/ambiance was great, service was great, and the food quality for both the meat choices we got, sides (caesar salad, broccoli, and macaroni) we're all SO yummy! I yelled, "MOTHER!" by accident and then he did truly leave me hahaha. He resurfaced a few minutes later, and then we walked in. It was 5:15 at the time, so 15 minutes after opening. I had NO IDEA how popular this spot was, nor anything about its nation-wide reputation. I actually didn't know that until two days ago when a Yelp-friend at home here in Richmond, Virginia, exclaimed excitedly when I told her we stopped in. The host who greeted us was kind, informed us there had been a line to get in that day, but that they had one barrel left; we jumped on it of course. It was happy hour, so the first cocktail I ordered was dirt cheap at $9. It was the Imperial Hawaiian with gin, rum, lemon, pineapple, and orgeat. I really shouldn't have ordered a second drink after that one, but I did have the classic Saturn later on in the night and it was absurdly good! Definitely my favorite of the two. At one point, there were rumbling sounds and subtle vibrations through the chairs, which made the whole experience feel interactive and different from your typical bar. The drinks were creative and fun (one of my friends even kept the drink garnish as a collectible), and the staff was friendly and welcoming throughout. It's definitely more about the ambiance and experience than anything else. I'd come back again--especially around the holidays to see how they switch up the decor.
