When I went in today. I needed to service my bike after year's of not riding. I'm recovering from a number of leg and lower body injuries and have not been able to ride for a couple of years. I dropped them off and took a look around since it's been awhile. I saw this E-bike with a passenger carrier for two small or one adult and thought I could convert it to carry my large 50+ pound dog. While looking around, two very young children walked up and said "that's a cool bike" I replied "Yes it is", "did you show it to your Dad?"..... They ran over grabbed their dad and made him take them for a test ride! That was, great to see! That was an awesome bike, I hope they convinced their Dad to get it! My Trek Madone was due for a drive train overhaul now that another winter is behind us and I have some big rides coming up. There was only one place to go and only one bike technician that I needed to see. Dalton did and excellent job on my bike, advising me on a couple smaller items to also check on. Even the small touches are appreciated like using silicon tape on a bar wrap job vs. using cheap electrical tape that melts in the summer sun. Horrible experience from summit bicycles I've been a loyal customer for about 10 years but what is happening at summit bicycles is bordering on ridiculous. I ordered a bike in April 2025 but they reported that that the bike was listed in error by Summit and canceled the order on me (without letting me know). I again ordered another bike online .. on sale on 8/20 and the order went through. Contacted Mike at the summit bicycle store a few days ago in San Jose who surprisingly said it might be 50/50 I get the bike. Cos their inventory in the store is all jacked up. But no contact from anyone . I had to contact summit again on my own. and then apparently, I learned from Leonardo that the store had gone ahead and canceled the order. No one bothered to contact me or updates me. I have also heard from employees mentioned that summit often sells bikes even though they may not be in inventory. Is this even a thing?. No word, no follow up and no apology from the store. nothing in writing or no offer on another bike???? No contact from summit bicycles. I've lost the opportunity to buy bikes on sale elsewhere. I put off buying other sale bikes as I have been a loyal customer and expected a good deal from summit. I think the inventory management and customer service here could be improved. Even folks (not one but most of who I interacted with ) who work for the company roll their eyes in frustration. I've even had folks tell me it doesn't make a difference to them if I don't buy from summit again? Cos it doesn't affect them, and they don't care. YESTERDAY : The man with long hair, long goatee, taller is the reason for the review. Unnecessarily raised voice at my step father in front of others, embarrassing him. Showing off his knowledge it seemed like. We left genuinely confused as to what the mans issue was (My step-father is a super sweet man). To keep the peace, what I am trained to do for my job which will be undisclosed, I acted as if I would come back for purchase. Not happening. It's all about respect. My family member asked a super simple question in a soft respectful tone "we don't know bikes, would this be close to 29 inches or 26 inches? we-" every sentence we said was cut off. What he replied with fast, rude, loud, in front of other customers that just entered "No that makes no sense. thats wrong." I attempted to ask "what is "wrong"?" but I got cut off when he said its "700 by 1.5". Those numbers mean absolutely nothing to me. Again, I too kept reiterating we know NOTHING of bikes. We are beginners. We tried to explain that theres no need for voice raising and again we got cut off "You asked a WRONG question im giving you a RIGHT answer". I asked 3 times for a dumb amount of time to FINALLY get an answer "700mm". He was friendly enough with me but an absolute so-and-so to my loved one. For context, I had gotten robbed while on duty, on patrol. So already, I personally was already in a stern state. But remained friendly. The elder white man saw my face, pure white hair, he came from the back where the tools are towards the end of the convo, right where he was talking down to an innocent mans innocent question. We made a split second eye contact. He went to do something else. Just a note to verify the story more so. (they can check cameras to confirm validity if they want). My face was angry. Visibly very angry. My voice was calm. He was jittery, fast talking, interrupted literally every single sentence we TRIED to get out . I could have easily talked over him, but that would be foolish and theres no point in arguing with someone like that. Truly I do not understand businesses like this. I don't know if it is lack of customer service training or if they get away with speaking to others like how he spoke to us for so long. It was very condescending with absolutely no humility on his part. OUR UNIQUE PERSONAL EXPERIENCE was bad, he was more concerned with showing off with what he knew. We quickly understood that and decided to let him talk his talk. I have no idea what set him off, but I did not like the vibe I got in that instance. i left my bike at my ex's house and of course what an ass he was and left my bike outside and it got rusty and uglyee!! Then I was like looking to buy a brand new hello kitty bike to replace this old one i had. Of course u cant buy this bike anywhere!! its not even sold online. So i called several places and they told me that they could not paint the bike or fixed it. and then I found Summit Bicycles on yelp of course and they said bring my bike in. Dalton he is a god send!!! Serious!! He restored my bike, polished, change tires, new basket, added my bell, added a new light, change my handle bars. he definitely restored my no longer can buy Hello Kitty Bike!! Thank u soooo much u dont know how appreciative i am and lucky to find Dalton!!! He said he worked on the bike himself. I think i dropped it off sometime this year, and i purposely told him take his time and i didnt want to rush him at all..but today finally i picked up my bike!!! In 42 years of cycling, maybe 120,000 miles, I have never had a crank fall off a bicycle. But on the first ride after drive train maintenance from this shop, that is what happened. I've had minor issues with previous service, but this is major, and I am doing future service at Chain Reaction, where I bought my Trek bicycles. To be fair, minor service -- tire mounting, fixing a loose chain ring -- has been fine, and I think Dalton and the old guy (don't know the name) are good mechanics, but I'm guessing there must be people working here who are very much not good mechanics. I'm not Eric Cartman, hovering between 1 and 5 stars, so 2 stars for competent minor service and sales, but I am taking my business elsewhere. read more

I want to leave a #thankyouthursday note for Summit! I ALMOST got stranded recently because I had to fix my bike on a ride. I was out adventuring! LOL. I don't like that feeling especially when it's c19-pandemic close to night time, what was I thinking?..... I squeezed in before closing time and had to wait in for 6 feet apart distance and the mechanics had there shop open too! They let people into the store in small groups to shop and also to the back by the blue shimano sign? to talk with the mechanics! I really appreciate that because some bike shops at this time won't let people in and do curb side shopping. Visited the San Jose Summit bike store on Thursday, October 24th, and was disappointed with my experience. I called ahead of time for some carbon wheels and was told they had them but when I showed up ten minutes later they were the wrong model. To make matters worse after the salesman put both the front and rear rims on the glass counter so I could look at them, he accidentally knocked one of them off; He was hastily reaching for the tag in between the spokes and ended up pushing the carbon rim off the counter which sent it rocketing towards the ground, first bouncing off my broken toe before crashing into the floor. When I informed him of my broken toe, I wasn't given an apology for the incident and was just kinda shrugged off. I picked up the wheel and handed it to him, and he barely looked it over before declaring it was fine. Although, I was able to see that there was now a very clear ding on the side of the carbon rim, which was a shame. Afterwords, the worker continued to try and sell me the wheels as if it never fell. Honestly, from the moment I walked into the store, I felt as if the salesman was not willing to work with me and just wanted a quick sale. He didn't know the difference in the higher end wheel models and even told me that I would have to look up the warranty myself online since he didn't know. He was rude and impatient and kept insisting I was losing out on a great deal on the banged up wheels. He begrudgingly helped me call other store locations for the wheels I wanted, and was able to find one. However, he was basically pushing me to purchase them immediately and give my credit card details to the other store location through the phone and he didn't even ask the other store if they would just hold it for me, insisting all the wheels would be sold out if I didn't buy them quick enough. The whole thing just left a bad taste in my mouth. I did ask if he would give me a discount on the rim he'd banged up, and he firmly declined and even told me, "how do you know the other stores didn't drop their rims too?" Another thing that bothered me is that I know he's gonna sell it to another customer for full price when he's the one that damaged it, mind you, it costs over $700 for just one of the one rims on sale. I just ended up leaving the store after that, completely frustrated and feeling as if I wasted my time. That said, after I left, I called both the Los Gatos and Burlingame Summit Bike stores myself and both of them provided excellent customer service from the phone. Anthony from Burlingame was especially kind and knowledgeable, even offering his apologies for my experience at the San Jose location and was more than willing to hold the wheelset for me till the next day so I could come pick them up. If anyone is interested in excellent, professional customer service, and are willing to drive a little further, the Burlingame Summit Bike store is amazing. Shout out the Brandon Tahminjian who helped me the next day at Burlingame. You're the best! In conclusion, skip the San Jose location and go to either Los Gatos or Burlingame. They are both amazing and you can't go wrong with either. Thank you. read more

Mike greeted me with a hello as I was checking out the merchandise. Looking at the Trek Madone being displayed made me want to compete in Triathlons again, I sure do miss those days. Well, more time for leisurely and scenic rides at this point in my life. This store came about the original concept store from where Aqui's on Capitol Expressway sits now. Fully stocked store with a great variety of bikes for different skill levels and terrains. Plenty of helmets, several shoes, a not so vast selection of clothing, numerous accessories, and much more. Grabed a few novelty bottles for the gorillaz. On check out, I was eyeing a pair of Shokz! Gave it a try from their display n was amazed by the clarity n functionality, was ready to pull that trigger but was undecided to either go with waterproof or noise canceling. Will def come back and chat it up with Mike and perhaps drop some coin on upgraded components and / or Shokz. Parking may be a challenge for closer access. Highly recommend. read more

Summit has been very good to me. I cannot tell you how many times I have taken my bikes in here for repairs or maintenance. I have always been pleased with the outcome and the pricing. Been taking my bikes here for over 10 years and hope it to remains that way. In the past I have tried other bike shops, but I have had better results with Summit, not to mention they work on all bikes, analog or e-bike. That isn't the case with many other bike shops where I have been told. "I am not an authorized repair shop for your bike." I would like to give a huge shoutout to Dalton one of Summits lead techs. He is always enthusiastic, tells it like it is and does his best to do what is needed to get you up running and back out there. The employee answered my questions, helped me with a basic fit, and even gave me a small discount. I've visited occasionally and bought a few items since then. The following experience was the trigger for this review. I dropped off my bicycle for service on a recent Friday and got it back 10 days later. I understand that they're busy in the summer seasons, but what frustrated me was that the service representatives continued to give me bad estimates for when they'd finish service. When I dropped off my bicycle, they gave me an initial estimate of 3 to 4 days. When I called on day 4, they pushed the service out a few days. When I called on day 9, they pushed the estimated date again! If I knew up front that service would take 10 days or even a week, then I would not have left my bicycle for service. None of the service representatives acknowledged this. They did not seem to care about either. Aside from this experience, interactions with this store have been average. Unless you're interested in a bicycle, the employees will give minimum help. The in-store and online purchase experience is also average. read more

Absolute trash service. I only pop up here on Yelp as the people's hero when some business screws up royally. So here we go.. I was here the other day to pickup a few accessories. So I get in line, with both hands full of merchandise and also had a question about service. So I was asked to move to the tech line. OK. Let me do that while no one does anything. There I was, standing in the tech line, hands full with hundreds worth of merchandise. And what do I get? An aggressive and threatening response from the tech. He went off yelling about I'd have to drop the bike off on a different day. Huh? You yell at customers bro? Is that how this new store works? Did the sign say, "Dead Customer Storage" out front? I must've missed it. Cause it felt like Dead Customer Storage standing there trying to get service setup. Mind you, I also bought a bike from this shop years ago when they were on Capital Expressway. They sold me on the lifetime tuneups. Service was OK back then. Clearly it's gone down a few hundred levels. If you like getting yelled at, please come to this store. If you like spending hundreds of dollars then getting treated like trash, this is the place for you. read more

The staff here is rude and it probably trickles down from their president, Ian. Many times I've been to the store and many times it seemed as if they just wanted me out as soon as possible. We purchased my son's bike from them yesterday. They do negotiate, so don't feel you need to pay full ticket price.
