I had crashed by bike when commuting up to the city for work, where I bent my handlebars and destroyed the mount to the gear shifter on the back wheel. The bike was in really bad shape. Going to Bicycle Express was an amazing experience from very knowledgable owners who were happy to fix up my bike, and really were as price conscious to a normal buyer compared to going somewhere like REI, who'd charge out the wazoo for labor costs. Interestingly enough, on a wednesday afternoon in downtown San Jose area, there are very very few bike shops open or even in the area. Absolutely amazing. Bought a used expensive baby jogger from marketplace, with the only thing being wrong was one tire unable to inflate and after looking through bike shops, I found a perfect one. Only 10 bucks while everyone else 20 labor... my 12 inch tire tube was less than 10 min to fix, lady at front desk even threw up Elmo to try and please my one year old daughter while we were browsing the bikes while waiting. These guys know bikes. Like, KNOW-know bikes. I took in my rig, which was just about falling apart, and asked them to do whatever it takes to make it a smooth, solid ride. As promised, they called a week later and said they would have it done "for tonight's ride" meaning the Bike Party test ride. (1) How cool that they knew about it? And, (2) I told them not to rush - but they said it wouldn't be any problem, and I was able to pick it up. I just did the Tamale ride and WOW - this bike was better than new! And, one of the guys was on the ride and I was thrilled to let him know how thrilled I was. I want to highlight that comparable work at other bike shops cost me 2X what Bicycle Express charged, and the quality of work was far above anything I've experienced - and I've been to a few bike shops! Amazing and fast service! Reasonable prices and nice guys. I dropped off my bike for a tune up and during the quick consultation, my bike needed more than the basic tune up. It has been neglected so I was told I needed new tires, got new tubes because I'm overdue for new ones, changed my rear brakes, new handle bar taping and my chain looks brand new! Fast, fairly-priced service! Stopped by right before closing to get a flat tire fixed. Replaced one inner tube for $16, and the team helped with a free check for loose bolts and rerouted my brake lines after realizing that I had put the bike together myself. BE via Bicycle Express is a very small local shop on E Williams, Is a pit stop for me every couple months for adjustments and maintenance for my bikes. I pass through Downtown often so its convenient for those that do the same. I like how they have a pump and tool pole for any customers to use, whenever really. A solid spot with quick turn around haven't had wait no more than half an hour (30) on the kinds of small jobs done on my bike. I think the shop is run by a family trio/team of Dad, Mom, Son and mechanics? Jessica!! lol. No diss or anything, but this place does not off give off a yuppie/upscale or trendy feel, but that's whats awesome about it. Definitely has an 80's 90's charm. I found this gem online messaged them on instagram they responded fairly quickly. Took in both of my bikes for a tune up and threw on some new grip tape --paid about 70 for each tune up and 30 for the new tape/service fee. Overall was very pleased with how communicative and fast they took to complete the service-- they took about 2 days!! where some other places totally over charge and take 2 weeks just to get your bike back. My only note I would consider is I wish they offered an additional cleaning or detail! I would've totally paid. They wiped down both of my bikes which I appreciated but after sitting all winter they definitely had alot of dust and dirt and needed a good clean. read more

I have a 30-year-old Kästle mountain bike, a relic from days of yore. I wanted wider handlebars and a stem that would work with them. However, the original quill stem was of an obsolete diameter (I think 28.6 mm). Amazingly, Bicycle Express found what it told me was the lone manufacturer that still makes these stems. It installed it and the handlebars in four days. It also discovered that a cable and a cantilever-brake hanger needed replacement. All of this for a very reasonable price. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly. I go to The Trail Head on Stevens Creek Blvd. for complex suspension service on my modern Ibis Ripleys, but for many things I rely on Bicycle Express, and happily so. read more

I'd give this shop 10 stars if I could. I have been on a knee scooter for 3 weeks due to corrective foot surgery. The scooter was making a sound like a dying goose for at least 2 weeks. I rolled into this small local shop and was immediately greeted like a friend of the family. They didn't hesitate to take a look and 7 mins later, they cured the dying goose. I didn't get the young woman's name but she was extremely helpful. Ask many questions to figure out the right bike for me to purchase. Explained throughly about the bike and its features, and with the Dblock the history behind it. Her coworker, an older gentleman with a long gray beard, had an amazing personality and made you feel like family. I am very positive they have a bunch of returning customers. The man told some jokes and even talked to me about some other things non bike related. Didn't want to spend as much as I did but I couldn't pass up the service they offered. Free one year warranty, a discount on the U guard and threw in a free T-shirt. We live in Oakland but don't mind coming back here for anything for our bike. Nikko, a kind younger gentleman, giving what he deems will best fit my needs and wants for my street bike while accommodating my want to stay within a budget of my desire. Left my bike there for a tune-up (not something I was aware you're able to do, and the cheap price $50.00) and told all the. Ew parts I wish installed on it will be correctly mounted and the bike tested and ready for me to pick up and USE come Tuesday morning. I am known to be hard-headed and hard to please, these two at this family owned bike shop that I happenstance to come across has impressed and persuaded me to bring any, if not all, my bicycling needs to their fine establishment. The ONLY bicycle shop I go to. The one time I go elsewhere for a simple tire change and the alignment is messed with. The other shop forgot to add a part on my bike tire, which became very wobbly. Took it to Bicycle Express, thanked them for the help and apologized for going somewhere else. Haha! I wouldn't recommend this bike shop. Took my bike there for a tune up which isn't cheap 70$+. Wasn't even tuned properly. From the first ride. Shifting caused my chain to derail and there's a slight kink you can feel and hear during some of the gears. Yes, even my derailleur can't stop the chain. It's that far off. I fear getting out of the saddle, as I know the chain is waiting to pop loose and jam causing a nasty accident. Go to another bike shop. It's not worth your time, money, and effort. Most important of all your SAFETY. Sure, I could take it back for a free retune. But that would mean more time and effort. I'll have to settle with writing a review instead. And have another shop do it right. I literally paid for the job to be done right the first time. Get someone who can tune your bike properly! Hopefully this review will help you save your precious time, money, and frustration. Look out and be safe. I wouldn't trust this shop handling my bike again. Sorry, not sorry. read more

The woman who I spoke to was super nice who made great suggestions on what type of bike I should get (city or mountain). They also provide you maintenance for your bikes such as tune up and repairs. I work as a Vet Tech at a nearby Animal Hospital. Some a**hole decided to put a bike chain link around his cats neck when the cat was a kitten. Now that the cat was full grown, the bike chain was causing so much damage. Nearly choking the cat. The team down at Bicycle Express were nice enough to let us borrow a chain link removing tool. Do not come here. Waited almost an hour for an inner tube and patch kit while while there were roughly 6 workers not doing anything but talking and hanging out. Could have been in an out of here in 10 minutes. 2 workers were helping two different customers and during this time I overheard them trying to overcharge for service and offering services with unrealistic claims that the part they are mainting will break. If you are unknowledgeable about bikes they will capitalize on this and overcharge you. Be wary about coming here. Only convience is that it is the only bike shop in a small vicinity. I have worked at bike shops, and have been going to bike shops for 15 years and this bike shop is not for the biking culture and will overcharge you for services that are unnecessary. read more
