BE CAREFUL bringing your bike here unless you want to deal with arrogant management and terrible customer service. My 80-year-old father came here THREE different times for the same flat tire issue. The front staff, especially Wilson, were respectful and tried to take care of him by applying a small $12 courtesy discount for being a returning customer. Then service manager "Dylan" stepped in and removed the discount because the bike "isn't a mountain bike" and this is a "performance shop." Let that sink in. An 80-year-old senior citizen, returning multiple times for the SAME issue, gets treated differently because his bike supposedly isn't good enough for their shop. That tells you everything you need to know about this business. The employees seem decent, but management clearly values squeezing every dollar out of customers more than basic human decency, loyalty, or respect for seniors. If they're willing to embarrass and nickel-and-dime an elderly customer over $12, imagine how they'll treat everyone else once they already have your business. There are plenty of bike shops in the Bay Area that actually appreciate customers. This is not one of them. We will never return and strongly recommend others think twice before spending money here. read more

Our register employee, Wilson, was very nice and initially gave him a discount on the service. However, the SERVICE MANAGER, DYLAN, stepped in and completely reversed the discount. I wish there was a way to give this shop 100 stars - they deserve it! I've been mountain biking for about 30 years, and am repeatedly blown away by what a great shop Lars runs here. They are incredibly well informed, patient when I am persnickety, and do a great job remembering customers from one visit to the next - I'm always greeted with a friendly hello as I enter. The products in store are well curated - these folks stock the parts they ride and race on themselves. Whether it's little tools, pads or clothes, or the new new drivetrain - they have everything (and have ridden it to provide a useful recommendation) Most importantly - I have watched them treat *everybody* the way they treat the "regulars" - it doesn't matter if you're there to spend $10 or $10,000. I watched once as the shop owner himself painstakingly explained subtle details of how their brakes worked to someone who clearly had no idea what they were doing, helping them understand their options instead of just slapping an expensive repair bill on the bike and moving on. That customer left understanding what they had signed up for, why it was necessary, and confident their bike would be safe when it was done being repaired. The service team does an outstanding job getting your bike rolling well. I am a pretty handy person, even worked as a bike mechanic long ago, and yet when I brought my bike to them to bail me out of an issue when I didn't have time to deal with it myself, they returned it to me in better shape than I've maintained it myself - it rode like a dream. They also went above and beyond when I had a brake seal fail the night before a race, and got me ready to rock in time. Huge props to Shane and Dylan! read more

AMAZING store: EMPLOYEES and inventory. Just bought a Specialized Turbo Kenevo SL Carbon...extremely knowledgeable and helpful staff, complete inventory, helped match my needs with great products. Our guy Cooper was knowledgeable, informative, professional and along all the other team members, they had a great attitude. The inside of the shop was pristine, and appeared as if it was in Mammoth or another alpine locale. The terms "no" or "I'm not sure" were simply not in their vocabulary. They made my experience way above my expectations; especially after driving almost 3 hours from the central coast. They have set the bar very high for the rest of the industry. read more

Short version: Staff were unhelpful. Wouldn't even look at my bike. Long version: I wore through my rear tyre (see photo). Checked online and this bike shop had a replacement in stock. As I work a five minute ride away, I rode down shortly after they opened. One thing about my bike is slightly outside the norm - my rear wheel is secured with a pitlock for security, but this can be opened with a $11 tool that home depot stock (I know as I've done this myself). When the service dept heard this, they said they wouldn't even look at it. I took my money elsewhere and replaced my tyre myself later that evening. This was "I went here because it's five minutes away for convenience. Happy to pay extra for the convenience". And if I'd had a good experience, I'd be back for all sorts of minor services I could do myself, but would happy to pay to have someone else do. After this experience, I won't bother again. I'll continue to buy parts elsewhere and either service myself or go to a bike shop with a "let's see what we can do" attitude. read more

First look at my bike. Yeah, it's that turquoise and purple monstrosity you see in the photo below. But, notice how everything is pretty well themed in terms of color. Even if it's an arguably obnoxious color theme. Well I went to get a tubeless conversion with these guys, which involved the installation of a Cushcore insert. All fine and dandy, except the fact that the Cushcores come with bright green valve stems. Definitely does not fit with the whole color scheme. Would I have cared? Well, I probably wouldn't have put in the effort to swap out the valve stem myself. However, an employee here, Cooper, took it upon himself to pause the install and upgrade me to Muck off Black valve stems (at no additional cost), just so the color scheme would not be ruined. I didn't ask, it was something he saw and took the initiative to do. It's this type of service that ensures that I come back to Trailhead. read more

Finance/Purchasing was easy and enjoyable with Cooper know the ins and outs of the Synchrony system and Mojo keeping me excited about my new rig. Can't say enough good things about Lars' shop. My wife and I recently purchased two Specialized Levo SL MTBs and could not be more pleased. Got a great deal (in two different transactions) and made a few custom mods to dial these bikes in. Great Service: I use Trail Head exclusively for any service that I don't do myself. They do good work and stand behind it. Let's put it this way: I live near three good bike shops in Los Gatos but I take my bikes to Cupertino. Great crew: I've found everyone there to be friendly and helpful and always willing to bat around ideas regarding current MTB bike tech. I took my kid's Trek bike to fix a flat, and for a possible tune up. Matt helped me with it, and told me that it didn't seem like it needs a tune up because of its condition. He replaced the damaged tube, and I was in and out in about 15 minutes! People there were super friendly, and the store was super clean and inviting. Highly recommended! read more

Trail head cyclery made me feel like they did not want to help or talk to me after selling me my bike. I understand that with buying a bike from a bike shop you can expect strong, after sale customer service. I did not experience that at Trail head cyclery the two instances I had to go to them on bike issues shortly after purchasing my bike. I purchased a turbo levo from trailhead. A 10k bike pre-tax (irrelevant for customer service expectation, but just for context). 1-2 weeks after riding the bike, I noticed the carbon wheels were starting to make noises. I checked the tension of the spokes and noticed that the spokes were de-tensioned by 50% posing a reliability concern. I went to the trailhead and dealt with the owner. He noticed I just purchased the bike. He demonstrated little to no empathy and wasn't even sure if this would be a warranty matter. He said the earliest he could get me in for the work is 2 weeks out. That was unacceptable in my eyes as I just purchased the bike and had an issue. This is a 30min job.. After pushback, he caved in and was able to turn the wheels around in a couple days. He mentioned that I wouldn't be charged, as you would expect for this situation. I go to pickup the wheels and they are looking to charge me for service which their service fees are outrageous. After pushing back on them again, they cover the service as they should for warranty work. Shortly after this warranty issue, I also experienced a motor issue. Similarly, I go into the store, and receive no empathy on the issue with my brand new bike. The first thing that comes out of the technician's mouth is that you will need to schedule an appointment for this (after talking to them on the phone about having a look) and that there will be a diagnostic fee for the warranty and service fees related to the warranty work. This is unacceptable and also unethical business practice of THC. Specialized warranty contract reads that the consumer does not pay for any labor or diagnostic fees associated with a warranty. Specialized pays the bike shop and THC is double dipping with these charges. They claim that the payment received from Specialized doesn't cover the shop hours, that is not my problem, and other bike shops have no problem following the Specialized warranty contract. After going through the warranty process anyways with THC, they were unsuccessful with getting my warranty approved making this a waste of my time. Everyone else I talked to besides THC (including other shop owners) mentioned this is a warranty claim. I figured I would stop wasting my time with THC and went to a bike shop in Santa Cruz to do the warranty work. I went to the bike shop and they were apologetic with the issues I faced. They looked at my bike right there and then and filed the claim. It took about a week for them to get the warranty completed and was super painless. They charged me nothing and were happy that I could go ride my bike again. I will not return to THC for a bike purchase or service. I cannot recommend them to a friend and I suggest you consider a bike shop that does a better job with after sale customer service. read more

Good shop, high prices. Back when this shop was in San Jose I did get some bad advice from their mechanic regarding replacing a wheel when really it was a derailleur hanger that needed adjustment (Another mechanic (Ford if you know then you know...) figured it out). Over the last 15 years I have purchased 3 bikes from this shop. The last two were via specialized website. On one of the new bikes (a rear bolt was loose) and it came off causing the tire to rub the frame on its maiden journey. I'm not sure this can be blamed on the shop, but they do state that they take everything apart when the bike comes in and put it together again as part of the "pro build". I did get quoted one thing, for service and then got charged something different when I went to pay. Didn't complain just paid it. I would say this shop is pretty solid on the whole, but on the pricier side. read more

Needed to purchase a new bike after mine broke. Went to a few bike shops and road some bikes but it wasn't until I went to Trail Head Cyclery that I began to learn about how to choose the right bike. They were so patient in explaining my options and made sure that I was able to stay in my budget and get the best bike possible. They have a wonderful program where you can rent different bikes and use the $$ toward your bike purchase. I was able to eliminate certain bikes by actually trying them out on the trails. Worked mainly with Cooper and a bit with the owner. All SUPER knowledgeable and I am so happy with my new machine. read more

I ordered a S Works Levo Gen 4 last week from Trail Head Cyclery. Today I picked up the bike my sales person was Jericho. Jericho was professional and had an excellent knowledge of the Specialized product and of the Levo Gen 4's electronics. Jericho walked me through the mechanical aspects of the bike and then he walked me through the electronics and how to operate the bike display control panel. This took some time and I NEVER felt rushed through the instructions and he was patient and completely addressed all my questions. I felt very at home while at Trail Head Cyclery Connor also provided assistance and I also spoke briefly with the service tech and another employee whose name I didn't get made me feel welcome and the overall experience was pleasant. I came upon Trail Head Cyclery by random chance at a demonstration event they were hosting in the Santa Teresa Coyote Park a couple of weeks ago and test road a couple of bikes a S Works Levo Gen 4 and a S Works Levo SL. Prior to this I didn't know anything about Trail Head. I stopped in last Sunday briefly for the first time to check the place out but today I spent way more time in the store and as I have pointed out above had nothing but a great experience with Trail Head and all of the great people working there! I'm compelled to inform and balance out these positive reviews with my experience. I had Trailhead overhaul my mountain bike for approximately $800. Price was outrageous yet I thought - well let's get it in tip top shape. Over the months following this I realized they didn't service the shocks which they said we didn't want the service to be too expensive. Then the breaks didn't last either. I just accepted this but then I realized the hubs are shot- were not part of this massive overhaul either. What set me over to edge to post a review was how the breaks where not flushed - fluid is black and said -basic - work was not performed. I was ripped off by this shop. This zoo of a store with so many customers and fees so high why would anyone bother....but when work is performed poorly and not even done as they said it would and after paying $800....they get a negative review. There are other shops to go to....avoid this one. read more

They attempted to charge me for labor for warranty work on my specialized ebike. I took my bike here because my motor needed to be replaced under warranty. The tech spent 5 minutes looking at my bike and confirmed it did need a new motor. They quoted me $250ish dollars in labor to replace it. I asked why I was being charged since it was under warranty and they told me "that's how it works". When I declined and asked for my bike back, they tried to charge me a diagnostic fee. There was no mention of this when I came in. I looked up the warranty info and it clearly states that all warranty work should be done "at no cost to the customer". I phoned specialized support and asked why I was being asked to pay for labor at THC. They sided with me and told me they shouldn't have tried to charge for labor. I got in touch with THC after this to let them know what specialized had said. I received an email from Lars stating that they could do the work at no cost if I could wait for their soonest appointment (2 weeks away). He also offered an expedited option if I was willing to pay a fee. Really Lars? If you truly cared about my experience in the shop you would have waived the $50 express fee to make things right. He also alluded to the fact that specialized does not compensate them enough for warranty work which is really none of my business as a consumer. The entire tone of his email came off as "I'm sorry I got caught" rather than "I'm sorry you had a poor experience" I avoid this place if at all possible. I bought a new Levo recently and if Trail Head handled this better, I probably would have given them my business. read more

I've been going to Trail Head for years. Best crew and many have been with Trail Head for a long time. I think it's a testament to the family atmosphere. Always helpful, always great to hang out with. I recently purchased a new E-bike from Trail Head. Alex helped me get set up for some demos and with some helpful information from both Alex & Lars, and Cooper, I settled on a Specialized Turbo Levo. What a great bike. Basically their tech lied about several things related to a warranty I brought my Levo in for. He didn't realize I work in the bike industry and I let him just go on with the BS. The kid (Adam, maybe Ethan? - short dude big head, beard?) wanted to tell me about my chain being dry, how I should keep up on my AXS firmware upgrades on and on with the BS, just a joke. After this tech power tripping (not sure why) I took my bike and drove straight to another shop where they on the spot did the work in 10 minutes that the trail Head tech informed would take 2 hours of labor (no bike in rack guy was just chatting starring at his phone). The other shop accepted my bike for warranty no problem which Trail head tech informed I would need to leave my bike for 2 weeks for review or some BS like that. Never going back to Trail Head Cyclery for service or anything really just cant trust the kids they leave in charge. read more

My first yelp review but felt it was needed. The second bike I've bought from them (13k ebike) and about 6 months having it I started having drivetrain problems. over th course of about a month of back and forth driving (I live an hour away), I was told by them multiple times that my derailleur was out of adjustment, hanger was bent multiple times , chain stretched, rear cassette worn, bad cable. I did everything they asked and still felt something was wrong. Although I'm no bike mechanic I felt there was something wrong with the motor itself. Finally got tired of them guessing what was wrong on my drivetrain so I ended up just replacing every component related to shifting, That's right, new derailleur, hanger, chain, cassette, chain ring, hub, and shifter. Took bike to them them The very next day and once again they said my hanger was bent. Then said my chain did not have any lube on it(brand new chain ) And then said my rear suspension was out of adjustment. I let them do what they felt was needed. Then realized they checked and set my rear suspension locked! Still no change. They didn't seem very sure about putting a warranty claim for me but finally they called shimano. I don't know if a claim was ever put in by them but this is what they finally said. I either buy a new motor, which is ridiculous because it should be under warranty. Or keep riding the bike the way it is until my motor dies. One mechanic said it was normal how my shifting is and the other contradicted hI'm saying it wasn't. Decided to take my bike to another shop in San Jose. About 4 months later i. Was finally able to get my motor warrantied by a bike shop I didn't buy the bike from or any parts from. Sorry for the long post but this has been an extremely frustrating ordeal. imagine not being able to ride your bike for months that you've bought for 13k and put in another 5k, plus all they travel time back and forth trying to fix the problem. Beware of hidden fees. I have a warranty claim that the bike manufacturer will cover. THC tells me to come on in, not stating they will charge extra fees. NOT all bike shops do this. Don't fall for it. They are getting paid by the manufacturer and double dipping by charging the folks who had the misfortune of getting a defective bike. Way to to kick someone while they are down. Today while biking my handlebar came loose (that's what you get when you buy a cheapo target bike) and I needed to emergency fix the handlebars in order to make it to work and then make it home after work. Luckily, Trail Head Cyclery was on the way and open. I came in asked if they could fix my handlebar and then fixed it within minutes. When I asked how much they said it was fine. Hands down the best shop in the area. Has been for more than 20 years. I challenge anyone to find someone more knowledgeable than Lars about the local trails, riding community, and bikes to go with it. I was lucky to work at this shop as a Grom in the late 90's, and I owe a lot of my mechanical mastery to those formidable years wrenching in the back. I still think about those days every time I lay out tools to work on the family fleet. Moved away many years ago, but I know I'll be treated like family every time I step into the shop. read more

Great customer service. I had a blocked tire valve, causing a slow lead in my tire. As I hustled from Sunnyvale Caltrain to work in Cupertino, made a pit stop at a gas station to grab some air. Googled the nearest bike shop and this popped up. They changed the tube in my tire for $25 each. The shop is mainly set up for mountain bikes, however they fix all types of bikes. One of the guys offered me water, he noticed how gross and sweaty I was from making my way there. Very kind gesture. read more

Probably one of my favorite bike shop in SJ. The first time I coming here was just asking them question about a full suspension bike I want and see what build I should get. There employee was nice and answer all my question. Also help me by telling me what a good build for my budget. Only bad thing is every time I am planning to get any kind of bike road, hardtail, or fs bike they never have my size so I just have to go to another store. Hope I better luck next time when I am looking to get a new bike again. But I do get most of my bike accessories stuff here. Was looking at a few places locally for a cruiser style bike and I have to say most place are limited on certain bikes (based on Covid) and as a result are high on prices and short on patience. The man that helped me (wish I remember his name), was very chill and informative (even though they don't carry cruisers). He gave me some places to consider, not only for a bike but for a hitch for my ride. Most places wouldn't tell me anything outside of their stock or business.
