A buddy of mine and I are long-time competitive and recreational cyclists, back in the area for the weekend and decided to stop by for a quick adjustment on one of our bikes. Really, all we needed was a quick and simple tightening of the bottom bracket (we didn't have the correct tool on-hand). Right away, the guy who attended to us came across as a bit of a snob and spoke to us in a condescending and sarcastic manner. He told us it would cost $15 to tighten our bottom bracket. When we questioned the cost, he rudely told us that the tool costs $30, so that $15 was a fair and reasonable price (and this is for a one-time use which takes like less than a minute, by the way...). He started making weird comments on my friend's frameset and began to ask some strange questions (like some kind of an interrogation), all while acting like he knew more about the bike and its components than he clearly did. It was disgustingly offensive and awkward, and my friend and I couldn't stop exchanging uncomfortable looks. The dude (who was also wearing sunglasses indoors the whole time, lol?) then started changing the service price, bumping it up to $20, then $30, then $40, and then saying he'll cut us a deal and do it for $30. Clearly, this guy is pretty used to scamming oblivious newcomers and likes to act like some kind of bike mechanic wizard. His attitude was absolutely disgusting and we immediately could tell that he was full of horse shit. We decided to just leave and order the correct tool ourselves from Amazon (which ended up costing less than $20 with Prime). The other employees present seemed pretty cool, but this guy clearly enjoys acting like a douchebag and taking advantage of novice customers... What a disgraceful and appalling injustice to the cycling community! Until management does something about this guy, do yourselves a favor and TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE. read more

Covid19. Let's start with that. I understand the effect this pandemic has caused. Coming into this purchase I was ready for delays. I called into this store to ask about a Trek. Recner L. helped me with this. He was informative about the product. I thanked him and told him I would order it online and wait for it. He then tells me that he had one in their warehouse and would have it to me in two days. So I agreed to buy it from him. One day later he calls me and tells me they pulled a similar bike. The bike I wanted had the same ID number that a lower model had. They didn't have the one I wanted. Then he offers me a similar but more expensive model...I would have bought it but they didn't have the color I wanted. Then he asked me if I wanted to cancel. I told him sure I'll just order it online. He offers to do it for me, takes down my card number etc and tells me I'll have it by APR21-22. I called to check the status of my purchase. Mind you the other reps who were helping me were extremely professional. Thank you guys! They told me the bike wouldn't be ready for several more days. Basically, I don't like being lied to! integrity. That's all I want from a store after they have taken my money and given me promises. I've yet to received my bike so as of now 1 star. Update called in myself today about my bike, April 23 2020. I spoke to Michael the store manager. He now tells me that it's not their fault that my bike isn't there still. Now the date of arrival will be somewhere in July! Are you kidding me? 4 days to two weeks, and now 3 months? I get what's going on(Covid19) but don't sell people things you don't have! Don't take your customer's money and then lie to them! On top of all that no one even bothered to inform me of this drastic change! While I am explaining to him my frustration this prick is being condescending and then apologizes for it. I wanted to sympathize for him. Thing is...your the fucken manager. Be professional! They pay you to do a job so do it or get lost! He offers me a free bike rental until July. Thing is I don't need your hand outs! Just tell me you couldn't get the bike, instead of making me check-in for a bike I already paid for and haven't received! This place is a shit show. I really wanted to give a fuck about these people. You're lucky you pricks still have jobs during this pandemic, and you can't even do your jobs! I will make sure all source of social media, friends and family know about your professionalism here! Was having issues with shifting and lost my battery key for my Rail. Took it in and DULTON helped me. He made me feel very comfortable. Had to drill out my old lock and installed a new cable and housing. On his test ride he had herd other noises and lubed some suspension parts. Long story short my bike runs like it did when i bought it. Turn around time was great and the prices were more then fair. Talk about a great experience from start to finish. read more

Paid $30 for the shop to swap out bike tires. Brought the bike home and found out later in the evening the front tire is flat. Now I am going to have to spend money and time to replace the inner tube. Swapping out tire is a simple job and the mechanic couldn't even do it right. I took my bike in for a fit. The tech Joseph, was extremely knowledgeable and worked with me for over an hour and a half fitting me to my bike. He changed my seat placement, seat height, adjusted my cleats, and changed the handlebar stem. Spent a lot of time measuring to ensure the changes were putting me within optimal margins. Jumped on my bike yesterday, and there was a big difference in my performance. Great job! read more

So, we bought a bike here. The brake failed under warranty, and brought it in six weeks ago. Shimano wanted to see it. Cool. That's fine. But we haven't heard a peep since. And yeah, we get it, things are delayed due to covid, but they have some bs phone system where you can't even talk to a real person. You can leave a message and they'll "get back to you". So now you have to resort to actually driving down and talking to the tech to ask if they've called shimano to check on the status. Only to have them say, "oh no, we didn't call, we'll call tomorrow" It's absolutely ridiculous. Save yourself the hassle and go somewhere else. read more

I have taken my Bike to the Santa Clara location and received horrible customer service with kids that worked there with no knowledge and communication whatsoever only because it's close to my house and also have taken my bike to other locations with bad communication and over priced services. Since I purchased my bike at Summit I came in for a regular tune up and I addressed little issues I had. (Dalton) who I have never met before completely went out of his way to take time and listen to note any issues down. I was completely shocked because he treated me more like a person and not a customer. I can't imagine how busy he must get from time to time only because he's great at what he and his coworkers do to provide such excellent service. This location has my most respect out of all other locations by far! Summer time is most likely the busiest and I recommend emailing instead of calling so it makes their day easier to complete most customer requests. You guys rock and thank you for all you! This was my first time at summit bicycles. I had to get an estimate to submit to the insurance company for my bike that was damaged in an accident. I picked this place because it was close to my home. But was a little skeptical after reading some reviews, so had another place in mind as a backup in case this place doesn't work out. To my surprise, it was a great experience . They keep the entrance locked to control the crowd, and they let me in without any delay as there were only very few people inside. Dalton was very helpful. He checked out the bike, and gave gave me a write up to submit to the insurance company . It's not the closest Summit Bicycles location to where I live or work but I don't mind the drive to go here because the staff is super helpful, even on the phone. Mykle, in particular, has helped me with picking the right parts for my Trek bike. He goes above and beyond to help his customers. Most recently I had issues with a new chain I bought online and Mykle took the time to understand what was going on when I called the store and helped me find the perfect alternative in terms of price and quality. In the past, he helped me with getting my first set of cleats while taking the time to explain the differences between road and Mtn bike options which can be confusing for first time buyers. I will never shop here again. I knew very little about buying a new bicycle and about cycling in general. I went this shop hoping they would help me and possibly educate me on the right bike to buy. I was still on the fence, it was a lot of money. One day I called and they told me a price over the phone, once I got there it was different price! (about $450 more) Maybe the mistake of a new employee? Not sure, but still upset. I should have ran at that point, but I still ended up buying a high end bike from them. I asked them if my bike came with any accessories, parts, manuals or stuff? They said no, I asked again "anything at all" they answered me with a "NO". I later found out they tried to keep several items that came with my bike, probably $75-100 worth of items. That really pissed me off! I went there and demanded the items... wouldn't you know it, they suddenly appeared. Well, most of them. Never, ever, ever again will I shop here. I'll take my business and my money else where. Unreliable. Inept. Lacking integrity. This is a poorly run business that knows little about customer service. Ordered and prepaid for a high end rack so I could cart the family bikes up to Tahoe and give my son his first bike ride. Was assured via email that rack would be transferred to the Palo Alto store and assembled well in advance of when I actually needed it. A week went by, I called and no one could figure it out...where was the rack. Turns out they sold it to another customer because it was "not tagged correctly". I know enough about bike culture to know it was purposefully sold to another customer. This was no mistake. They then did nothing to help me or make it right. Not a thing. Did I mention that I had to call them 4 times and write as many emails in an attempt to get to the bottom of this. This is a very poorly run business. read more

One of the worst experiences I have ever had with a company. We called and asked if they had a certain bike rack in stock. We were told yes. We ordered the bike rack from them and never got it. We called and emailed. Finally got a response after two weeks of waiting. We were told the bike rack was out of stock and on back-order until August. We were offered a different bike rack that was $200 more. I asked a question regarding the hitch on the other bike rack and never got a response back. That was five days ago. After three more emails asking for a response I finally got one and was told our order was being cancelled. We originally ordered the rack on 7/7/2020 and were told it would ship right away. After three weeks of waiting they are now cancelling our order. The WORST customer service ever. Do NOT deal with this company. read more

I came here around noon today to just look around. Somehow, I ended up with a bike on the way out. Well, it is actually going to be shipped out since I didn't want the one that they had in the store. Anyways, when I first arrive, I was greeted by Felicia. She asked if I had any questions and when I found the bike that I wanted, I was able to take it to the back to try it out. I ended up really liking that bike (the Trek FX Seven 3). It was perfect for me. Obviously, I didn't know too much about bikes so Felicia and the store manager, Michael were both extremely helpful. They were really nice and answered all the questions that I had. They gave me all the possible options and when I didn't know what it was. They went to find something similar so that I can see what it is like. Overall, I really like this place and their service. I mean, I obviously didn't know much about bikes. Wish I could give 0 stars. I was confused between Marlin 5 & 6. I was told to take the 5 since 6 was not available in my color. I was told I can return within a week if Im not satisfied and they would upgrade to a 6 for no cost. Turns out I'm being charged even though it's only been 12 days and two rides cause the tires are worn out. In 2 rides the tires are worn out. That says more about thw quality of bikes they sell than anything. Basically the salesman only care about making as much money from you as possible. Do your research before going here. I called to asked if they worked on recumbent trikes before and the guy on the phone said he had so I took it in to replace a rear derailleur. Came back 15 min to find out he clearly didn't know what he was doing with the trike. Now I'll have to take the it to a trike shop which I should have done to begin with. Waste of my time and money. Update: Took my trike to a trike shop and they fixed it quickly and easily (chain length was obviously not the problem). They warned me never to take a trike to a normal bike shop again because they won't know how to figure it out if they have never assembled a trike before. Lesson learned. read more

They tagged a bike for me at another store. I got a receipt. The bike was to be shipped to the Curtner store. At that point, I stopped looking for a bike. After almost a week, I left a couple voice messages wondering status. They never called back. I went to the store to get update. The bike apparently was never tagged or put on hold. The bike was sold. Not to me. Then, they told me they put an email in for another bike, and they would call me. They never did. Granted, bike sales are booming now. .... I went here to fix my bike break housing. I was talking to the tech person to understand pricing and what different options I have. But there was another employee that walk up and crack an awakened joke. It was annoying because it kind of dismissed my question. I had to ask again. I do not know anything about bike and hope to understand. Mainly to gauge what the best option I want to go about fixing my bike. Overall, I did get my bike fixed, and working fine. The service took about 2 days which is reasonable if they have a lot of bikes to fix. The prices are on the pricey side for repair. read more

After attempting a ride today and being in pain I decided to go to the new location to see if there was anything we could do. Who wants to ride a bike and be in pain? I am so glad I came here. Randall and a young gal with glasses, sorry I don't remember your name but you were really sweet helped me. They have a good bike mechanic named Joe there as well. I spent less than an hour there and got the situation all worked out. If you are in need of a bike or accessories don't bother with the other Summit/Trek stores just head straight here.
