Some cases are due to the combination of little issues such as slightly loose derailleur hanger, not tight enough qr, misplaced cassette spacer, slightly bent hanger and so on. With my limited knowledge, I thought my bike with some minor hassle is not fixable. I found Nathan's cycling service shop by accident and wanted to try out. He is such a calm and knowledgeable person. After he heard some issues I have had, he started overall fixes here and there. What a difference! Similar example I can use is that (although I have not tried myself) people benefit from good bike fit may feel this way. You thought you did the right things but only an expert can take you to the last mile. That's what I have experienced with Nathan's service. This is one of the places where I paid more than he asked because 1. I valued his expertise more than he valued himself and 2. He shared his knowledge which I may not be able to get from just watching YouTube clips. Try yourself and be pleased.

However, I looked up "bike repairs" and found Mike's Bikes of Stanford Research Park. After visiting the website to request service, a fellow Yelper mentioned that this shop welcomes walk-ins. Since it isn't far from my home in Palo Alto, I took it to the shop. As the name suggests, the shop is located right in the heart of the Stanford Research Park. It's located in the eastern corner of the building (with a Coupa Cafe coffee shop located inside). The building is located on Porter Dr. (where it meets and becomes Hanover St.) and intersects with Hillview Ave. There is ample parking located behind the building. If you've ever been to a Mike's Bikes (such as their large location on Middlefield Rd. in Mountain View), you usually find a large assortment of bikes for sale. This does sell some pretty amazing assortment of items (and some bikes); however, this is primarily a bike repair shop. The staff is very helpful. They are VERY honest and really know quite a bit about bicycles. Customer service is surprisingly good compared with most of the other bike shops in Palo Alto. Despite not having used their service request via the website (or phone), they were able to take the bike and fix the flat within 20 minutes. The price was a great value too. While waiting, I was able to visit the Coupa Cafe (in the same building) and enjoy a pastry and drink. The repair was completed before I could even finish my coffee. I highly recommend this shop! It's a fantastic bike repair shop (which also sells items) that is just a bit off the beaten trail but gladly away from the traffic and hustle and bustle of Stanford, El Camino Real, Middlefield or University Avenue. ***** Five stars!
