Was quite pleased that the food and service has been improved (not that the previous restaurant in this spot was bad, we liked it and dined there several times). This visit was dinner. We had 2 appetizers/cold dishes: crushed cucumbers - a very subtle version of this dish, savory and ever so slightly spicy. Dry bean curd - more in your face flavor bomb, spicy and full umami. Subtlety of the cucumber hard to taste after this dish. 1 veggie: Peavines & mushrooms in broth - super flavorful greens cooked in chicken broth (not sure if they can make this version vegetarian). The best version of this dish that I've had in a while (in the Puget Sound) 1 noodle - Shanghai style noodles with seafood (I think). This one was ordered in Chinese with recommendation from our server. Whatever it was exactly may be a slight mystery... noodles seemed slightly yellow-curried, shrimp, egg, some cured pork, bell peppers. Whatever it's exactly called... it was exactly tasty. Huge portion that will probably cover us for lunch for a day or two. 2 meats - Thinly sliced roast duck with cucumbers in stock/sauce. This was a comp'ed dish from the kitchen. We didn't order it but appreciated it. Well roasted duck, not the BBQ duck, more like braised texture or oven roasted at a lower temp to fully cook the meat... I don't exactly know, but enjoyable. Had a bit of that duck funk that comes when the skin fat isn't fully rendered. Soy Sauce Chicken 1/2 order - this is like Hainan Chicken, but with a rosy bronzed skin from the chicken being seasoned with soy sauce before cooking. Really delicious and satisfying. Plenty for 2 people, especially with everything else we ordered. Finally, 1 dessert Sesame Balls - freshly made, hot at the table, exactly what you expect when that treat is exactly right. They had not been sitting around all dim sum service waiting for us to order them. Took some time to come out because they were made to order. Dig that! So yeah, we liked this new version of that other place. :) my partner had a long pleasant conversation with the server who closed out our tab. Friendly courteous service all around. Dinner was good. Family style dishes. Ordering was a challenge- the kiosk on the dinning tables you had to order in Chinese. You can browse through the menu in english but ordering was definitely a challenge. We got creative by taking photos of the menu items and tried typing the order in using chat gpt- that was also a fail We finally asked for help and a kind gentleman helped us to take our order. Important to know- Dim Sum is not served in the evening. It's only served in the day until a certain time. I was told on Saturdays they stop serving by 2:30 pm. No improvement from previous same restaurant. Yelp remote checked in, arrived, noone is at the storefront for you to check in with. A bunch of customers standing around unsure of what to do and who is in line or already waiting. That is the sense, feeling you get when you walk in. Waited 10 minutes for someone to appear. Then a woman walks in, 4 fingers in the air walking into restaurant and grabs who is seemingly the manager, they get seated before everyone waited. We waited 10 minutes patiently in the lobby and to have that happen I make a point with the manager that they just arrived and got seated, he gets irratated instead of being professional and shows me his phone that has a list and says her name that got seated and asked if I wanted him to call her from the phone to show proof it was them. Is that how you respond to customers? You should stay composed and explain and be apologetic rather then being defensive and realize there are people waiting in the lobby for someone to attend to them and for that to happen, know that people can get the wrong idea. No real apology, not real anything, though he did then seat us right after that. Sure, you're busy, sure, maybe understaffed. Thats on ownership and management. Don't vent that onto the customers. The food itself, its the exact same from previous restaurant. Actually, a tad over salted. The grouper was delicious though, well prepared, and fresh, for $70 it better be, and it delivered. I feel sorry for the guy or manager because he must be flustered at the situation he is in. It could have gotten way worse if I chose to escalate it, but I stayed cool mainly because I wanted my guests to eat, and he did seat us. We arrived on a Saturday at 12:20pm and waited an hour. -lotus wrapped sticky rice: small and meh. Flavored with soy and rice almost al dente. -chicken feet: large paw, tender, good flavor -Red bean purse: flaky, warm, flavorful. Would recommend. -steamed pork bun: fragrant bun, not a lot of filling. -rose scallop dumpling: like a shrimp dumpling with a scallop on top. It's good. -swan shaped duck pastry: must try. On the oily side from the duck. -daikon cake- not good. Cool, chewy feel from being stale. So much flour very little daikon. -sesame red bean ball: good. Our were very hot. The paste is sweet and smooth. -Dan Tat (egg custard cup): cold. Both if the pastry is soggy from sitting there. Sides were still flaky. The service was slow, it was painful to flag the down for refill of the tea pot. The restaurant look exactly the same as the last restaurant; Sun Sui Wah. They ran out of chairs and used metal folding chairs at some tables. Another underwhelming Bellevue Dim Sum place. They will go out of business soon. Sum Yee Kae replaced Sun Sui Wah in the same location. The local owner remains the same, but the restaurant is no longer associated with the BC, Canada Sun Sui Wah. Sun Sui Wah was great when it was on point, but it could be inconsistent. First, Sum Yee Kae is still in soft opening, so it's not 100% where they want it to be yet. And it shows. Service is fine, though nothing special. There are now tablets and (optionally) a QR code for phone ordering, which helps make dim sum service a little faster. But they still miss things (we had to point out two items we did not receive while there this time, so we could get them). Food was good, sometimes better than Sun Sui Wah's similar item, sometimes not. And when it was a "not equal," it was not great. Some dumplings (here's looking at you, shumai) had skins that were far too thick, especially on the bottom. More than half of the variety of dumplings we tried seemed oversteamed. When they got it right, the food was outstanding, but that was only about 25% of what we ordered. We'll give Sum Yee Kae another chance in a month or so. Hopefully, they work out the rough spots during the soft opening by then. read more

The only downside to this place in my experience was the service, the food took a while for it to come and was separated from each other for quite some time. Water was not refilled appropriately. Saturday morning dimsum. For a party of 6, we waited about 1 hour. I'd recommend joining through Yelp before you get there bc their waiting area can get really crowded. The interior looks pretty much exactly the same as from before they rebranded. Service was really fast and good as well. For food, we got a variety of dishes. Standout for me was the royal swan with roast duck. The pastry was super flaky and the filling was flavorful. Really yummy. Other items like the lotus leaf wrapped sticky rice, bbq pork buns, and Chinese broccoli were okay. I was disappointed by the salted egg custard buns. Filling was good, but the bun part at the bottom was really dense. Bean curd was okay, though I don't prefer the oyster sauce. The steamed rice rolls had a weird chemical-y aftertaste? Sum Yee Kae did not hit the mark for me unfortunately :( their wait times are extremely long on a weekend so make sure to add your name to yelp waitlist in advance. Their dimsum dishes tasted mediocre and very very pricy. The space is great for large groups and feels really grand but dim sum was just so sad for some reason. Maybe they are still working out a couple things after the rebrand. I'd recommend to look for other spots for dim sum. read more

We also ordered a dim sum dish as well which ended up arriving much later after the duck. I realized we were not offered the two course set for the Peking duck once we were done with the dish and am a little disappointed by that. We placed a few dim sum items to-go orders which also took a long time to process and was disorganized as well as multiple servers were servicing all the tables. Overall the flavor was good but service seemed lacking, with some grace that it was a busy service. The logistics of this place are bordering on failing. We ordered ~15 items, got one shrimp ball order and the second and third ones we ordered came ~45min and 55min after the first after chasing them down. Ordered tea service, never got any. Had to chase them down for hot sauce, they brought one small condiment plate (with no utensil to share) for a party of six. Chased them down for soy sauce and more hot sauce. We were charged $3 for chilies. Had to chase them down for a missing fish dumpling and a second milk tea we had ordered. Had to carefully manage the bill and explain that we did not get several items. It was an almost two hour experience that really should have taken one. Even with the billing stress, I found the lack of sauce to start and the small offerings of sauce the most frustrating. The haw gow and milk tea were good, everything else was meh. The chow mein seemed undercooked and the rice rolls were thick and didn't have the smooth delicate bite that is so characteristic of rice rolls. The menu is way smaller than Sun suh wah and the tablet ordering/logistics of the new place are shockingly bad. Actually hard to think about this place without getting sad bc everyone is clearly working hard but nevertheless the service wasn't there. read more

Most of what we ordered were good, the cucumber, herbal chicken soup, steamed rock fish, the black pepper wagyu beef and the water spinach were very good, especially the steamed fish (very fresh). The crispy pork was not as crispy as it could be. The sweet and sour pork was a little bit disappointing. It did not have a lot of flavor. Lastly, the venue was very nice. I had really high hopes for this place and I really want it to like it. Some positives first though. I do like the iPad ordering system, it makes it easy to look at pictures of what you want without waiting for a dim sum cart to go around. The decoration reminds me of an Asian wedding dining hall. The service was a mixed bag. The server was putting things on our table a little bit harshly so sauce would splatter all over the table. Otherwise we didn't have too many complaints. Now for the disappointing stuff. There were no condiments and sauces on the table. Which is unfortunate because a lot of the dishes we had could have used a little extra flavor. The xiu mai appeared to have been cooking or sitting in the warmer a bit too long. They were a bit dried out and the shrimp on top was a bit shriveled up. On the opposite end of the spectrum, our tripe and our rice rolls could have used more time In the steamer. The tripe wasn't tender and the rice rolls were still a bit hard and had that undercooked rice paper texture. The shrimp paste with the crab maw was quite bland so the missing condiments on the table could have helped the dish liven up a bit. The fried shrimp paste with crab claw was decent though. I was excited to try the braised beef short ribs, but my excitement died down once I saw the ribs were mostly fat. The swan and durian pastries were the best things we had but we probably won't come back here just for those two things. I really wanted to like this place but I left with full of regret :( read more

Perhaps I had too high of an expectation from the looks off its interior or the location used to be a well known dim sum place in Vancouver, it was a big disappointment. The food range from mediocre at best to quite bad. The soup dumplings came in aluminum foil cups (?!) and half of them were already split open with no soup inside. The sit fried noodles were blend and frankly I could have done it better. The only dish that was memorable was the egg tart. It was freshly baked with a perfect flaky crust. Not only was the food forgettable, it was also expensive. Came out to be $145 for the four of us. I wish the new owner good luck and I will not be coming back. read more
