Butter pecan cake - light, moist and lick-the-plate good.

Casual eatery with straightforward menu. This is comfort food. Pick your meat (changes daily - but there's always chicken, catfish and Momma burger), and pick 2 sides. Save room for dessert!! We ordered fried chicken and catfish and between four people, we tried the beans, okra, greens, buttered corn, fruit salad, rice and gravy and cabbage. You have to ask for cornbread. Do it. The food is like crashing a church supper on steroids. The catfish is flaky and fresh and evenly coated and fried. The chicken was juicy and not too much batter. The okra was light, addictive and not slimy... fresh. The beans are southern Texas yummy with jalepeno and beef. This was my favorite and was sold out..we had a smaller serving than usual and I coulda doubled up on those. All of it was just what you need after...well... anything. After waking up... running errands...visiting friends. Don't count out the fruit salad, tho. It comes with a crunchy granola with a drinkable custard sauce that you could almost have as dessert. Don't. Get dessert. This place sells out. So...we missed the Ooey, gooey butter cake. We opted for cinnamon roll and butter pecan cake. Served warm, it was hard to split, but dang, we were all stuffed at this point. Healthy serving sizes and sweet tea round out the home-cooked offerings. They had kids' meals and a connect four and outside eating area. Overall, we loved everything. It's solid comfort food made very well and not overdone.

Absolutely delicious food! The ribs are fall-off-the-bone tender, onion rings were just like I like them, the Navy Beans were sooo good! Be careful of the bones, but they add such great taste! The manager is attentive and able to answer questions.

    Banana pudding

The food was great, I got a catfish plate and it was good portions and taste. I also got the banana pudding, probably the best banana pudding I've ever had. Friendly staff and fast service

Didn't get a chance to take pictures of the food because we all devoured it, it smelled and looked so good. We came in for the catfish and all of us ended up ordering an extra serving of it a piece it was so good. We're traveling and would consider ourselves foodies and have tried several different southern soul joints, and this place hands down had some of the best catfish and greens we've had. Unfortunately they were out of the Mac n cheese and the ooey gooey butter cake (which both we were really looking forward to ). But that just gave us room to eat more fish lol. They don't have a sign up outside so it's a bit hard to spot when you first get there but well worth the effort. The staff and owner were lovely and overall it was an exceptional experience. We'd definitely be back if we lived closer and weren't just passing through.

ALOHA... Hawaiian FOODIES IN DA HOUSE. Tried this place for the first time. Busy place. We had the fried pork steak and meatloaf. Sides were corn on the cob, fried okra, mashed potatoes and mac n cheese. Fried pork steak was a winner. Fried okra OMG... best ever. Homemade mashed potatoes with meatloaf and gravy... Yum!!! Everything home cooked and tasty. Next time we'll try the catfish (which looked amazing) and fried chicken. Needless to say, we'll be back. Owned and operated by some very nice folk.

10 thumbs up. We all agreed. This place is amazing!! We tried three types of meats, five sides, and two desserts. It was all good!! We were all in love with the Ooey Gooey Butter Cake! I forgot to get a photo before it was gone!

Seat yourself, a waitress quickly stopped by with menus and took a drink order. The menu is pretty big and includes breakfast and a kids menu. I ordered hot tea and am so happy to have received a cup of tea with a pot of tea back-up! Yes, all the tea please. The lemons on the side added to my tea joy. It's the small things. My SO ordered himself an open faced roastbeef sandwich. This is shredded roast on top of a sweet roll smothered in gravy with a side of mashed potato. He certainly ate it like it was tasty. (I did confirm - it is tasty.) I went with an a la carte breakfast of two eggs and one pancake. The pancake had a slightly sweet taste and is fluffy. The eggs were cooked perfectly 'over easy'. You can tell they are cooked as eggs should be over a low heat - no scorch marks on the outer edge. Bathrooms are in the back left corner and are cleanest where it matters most. Diaper station in the ladies room. During our visit many of the guests knew each other and chatted amongst themselves. All the staff we came in contact with were friendly. They kept a close eye on all the guests making sure everyone had everything they needed. All together a good stop.

And the music..low, warm Motown drifting out the door like an invitation you'd be a fool to refuse. That's how you find Mama G's. Parking was a minor hassle. Worth it. Inside, the soul of the place hits you immediately. Family portraits line the walls:real people, real smiles, real history. The woman at the counter greets you not like a customer, but like a nephew who's finally come home for the holiday. That's not trained hospitality. That's heritage. We waited fifteen minutes. Got seated by the bathroom with a view of the road. Not ideal. But you know what? I didn't care. Because the smell coming out of that kitchen was already forgiving every small inconvenience. The menu reads like a dare. Everything "spiced correctly," they boast. No timidity here. So I went big. The Stuffed Turkey Leg: a smoked behemoth of a thing, piled high with greens, mac and cheese, sweet potatoes, all crowned with cornbread crumbs. Thanksgiving on a plate. A chaotic, glorious, soulful mess. The collard greens hit first. Earthy, slow-cooked, righteous. Then the mac and cheese, creamy and clinging to the turkey meat like it belonged there. The yams? Sweet, soft, perfect punctuation. And the spices??; they danced. Bold but not brutal. I could handle it. My four-year-old, however, disagreed. The mac was "too spicy" for her young tongue. Fair criticism. Take the kid to a park next time. This food is for grown-ups! My fiancée went with the Fried Wings. Hand-breaded, Mama G's own seasoning, fresh from the fryer. The kind of fry that crackles when you bite in..extra crispy on the outside, impossibly tender within. She needed dipping sauce to cool the heat. She didn't complain once. In a city full of bland, safe restaurant food, she was grateful for something that actually tasted alive. The staff? Warm. Genuine. Our waitress heard our compliments and brought us a free side of spicy cabbage just to show off what else the kitchen could do. That's confidence. That's family. Mama G's is not a restaurant. It's a relative's house where you happen to pay at the end. It's a taste of the South, a taste of something real, a taste of lovely.

Fried pork chop is another great choice. Really good outside fry on the chop. The is cooked nice and still juicy. Meatloaf is a really good taste. A pretty dense meatloaf, that can seem a bit dryer texture. Make no mistake, it's still really good. If you like fried chicken livers...they are cooked good and a good fry taste. All the sides have been so very good. The okra, cheesy potatoes, cabbage, corn bread and the green beans. They are delivering that great southern style sides. Oh, did I say they have good sized portions? You won't dare go way hungry at this place.
