This was our third time at Sullivan's Steakhouse and they are never a disappointment! We had John as our server and he was fantastic. He suggested the beef Wellington bites as well as the Sea Bass and I enjoyed both of them. My boyfriend wasn't a fan of the Wellington bites though, but he enjoyed his salmon entree and the asparagus were cooked perfectly. We came on a Monday night so the vibe was intimate and chill. I used to love Sullivan's Steakhouse. I've dined at the Indianapolis and Anchorage locations and always enjoyed the service, food, and atmosphere. Unfortunately, this last visit was memorable for all the wrong reasons. I did reach out to corporate first and received no response, so here we are. My girlfriend and I stopped in on a Saturday night. I accidentally made the reservation for the wrong evening, so we "upgraded" to the bar area. The live music was so impressively loud that conversation became a nostalgic memory. If you're looking to communicate solely through hand gestures and facial expressions, this is your spot. Our waiter, who appeared far more committed to socializing behind the bar than serving tables, eventually made his way over. Since we had ample time to review the entire menu while waiting, we placed our full order at once. The oysters arrived about 20 minutes later--partially. Apparently, the rest of the tray decided not to join them that evening. We made do. Our steaks arrived nearly an hour later, thoughtfully prepared both overcooked and stone cold. It's a rare culinary achievement to manage both at once. The sides did not accompany the meal, presumably on their own scenic route through the kitchen. When they finally appeared, we had already finished our steaks, and they were still undercooked. Dessert was decent, and to his credit, the waiter was apologetic. I understand it was a busy Saturday night. However, "busy" typically explains a delay -- not missing items, cold food, and inconsistent cooking. For the price point, I expected a fine dining experience. Instead, it felt more like Applebee's with a live band and higher prices. Life is too short to overpay for bad food and inattentive service. I'm writing this review to remind myself that the filet mignon always turns out better here than the cowboy ribeye. We've been going to Sullivan's for years at Xmas, and the food consistency is the same across both of the locations I've dined at (Indianapolis & Naperville). In general I like ribeyes better than filets, but not here. The filet is consistently better. The brussels sprouts here are below average too. The best side item are the mushrooms. I like the wedge salad too. We tried a bunch of drinks this trip. The $20 smoked Reposado & Mezcal was good and had the smoky flavor I like, but too much ice. The $20 New Old Fashioned was better. My favorite appetizer here is the $17 cheesesteak egg rolls. I could eat those all day. For dessert the $13 Banana Bread Pudding is always one of our favorites. Great place for a family meal. Unfortunately, this was a very bad experience. I am here now on Christmas. When we arrived, we could see how busy they were, so we knew we were in for an experience. We had a 6:15 reservation. We were told they were running 15-20 mins behind. It was Christmas, so we opted to grab a drink at the bar and wait. My barrel aged vieux carre smelled like meat or meat blood. I did not feel I could complain because of how busy they were. We did not get sat until 7:05 for our 6:15 resy. Our server, who was very friendly, did not get to us until 7:40. We ordered another round of drinks and an appetizer, as we were very hungry. The drinks did not arrive until about 8:00. The appetizer around 8:30. We ordered our entrees around 8:00. They arrived at 9:10. The steak we ordered was overdone. There was a char on it and it was definitely burned. Although, again we did not feel we could complain. Also, we ordered the mushrooms, and were not told they were out of them until right before our meal came. All in all, this was not the Christmas dinner we wanted or expected. When you are spending $250 on dinner for two, you have a certain expectations. I think the thing that is hardest to understand is we were never offered an explanation as to why things were so late and we were never offered anything as an apology. I am not sure if we will come back, which is tough because this place has been special to us. People around us were complaining about it all. My wife and I went there for my birthday hoping to have a good dinner. We'll it was a miserable experience. We got there at 7:30, after sitting there for 15 minutes the waiter came. We ordered our drinks and appetizers which took 20 minutes to receive. When we received our, we ordered our dinner, 45 minutes later the waiter comes to the table telling me that they did not have any more sweet potato casserole, so I ordered something else, 20 minutes later we received our dinner; mind you, we ask for our steak to be medium. Well, they brought it out to us, burnt and well done. So they took the steak back and we just decided to pay for what we ate and drink since we had been waiting for so long. We told a waiter to get a manager before he took the food back 20 minutes later the Asst. Manager showed up with our dinner again. Mind you, we told the waiter to get a manager because we decided not to wait any longer. We talked to the Asst. Manager about our complaints about the time it took for us to get our food. When she set the second steak in front of me, it was black and a little bit over medium, well, so she decided to take it off the bill and give us the meal, which we still was not going to eat again it was not prepared properly. What has happened to Sullivans? We have been regular customers there for all the years they have been in Indy. We've noticed on each trip in the past few months that the quality of dining has declined drastically. It seems the number of customers has declined as well. It used to be difficult sometimes to get a decent reservation but now there are many more empty tables than ever before. The food is decent but not the standard it used to be. The service has drastically declined. Lately we have had to ask numerous times for refills or additional orders. The cocktails are inconsistent and serving sizes of food are also inconsistent. We are sad to see this decline after so many years of being customers. A large price increase does also not help but that can be overlooked when service and food are fantastic. Went for our 29th anniversary of the day we met. We stared with Beef Wellington Bites. They were really good. Husband said a bit too much mushroom but I loved them. We each got a Caesar Salad. His entree was an 8 oz Steak. It looked really good and had no complaints. Four cheese potatoes were good but I wish the chunks were cut smaller. Some weren't quite fully cooked. My entree was crab cakes. I didn't love them. They were too wet. I would have preferred them to have been firmer and more crispy on the outside. We got a free dessert of Bananas Foster Bread Pudding. Yesterday I took my wife to this restaurant for our 31st wedding anniversary. Our server, Henry, was excellent! Our food, however, was quite disappointing. I ordered a 22 oz Cowboy cut, medium, and my wife ordered a small filet, medium well, along with a wedge and some mushrooms. Unfortunately, the filet was cooked a near perfect medium, and my Cowboy Cut was well done. It is quite disappointing to have a bad experience on your over three decades anniversary, but even more disappointing to pay nearly $80 for a steak ($270 for the whole meal) requested to be cooked medium and it arrive well done. This is hardly the hallmark of a high-end steakhouse. Furthermore, the server noted he would talk to the manager, but this did not appear to happen so no manager came over.. While I was not looking for a handout, it would've been nice to at least have had an apology from someone in mgmt acknowledging the error. Not certain I'll be back at this juncture. read more

The food was phenomenal - down to every detail. And the drinks were so good. Very expensive, but well worth it. I took one star off because we felt like just another table to our server. I appreciate when servers take the time to talk with us and explain specials, menu items, and their recommendations to us. We felt in the way. Everything we had gone here years, ago and hadn't been back and went again and realized why. Saw their reviews. And quickly skeptical there was a reason why we hadn't returned to the steakhouse for the price that you pay. The service was horrible. We waited a half hour for drinks , steak with medium rare instead of medium for the price you pay this is unacceptable. Those reviews should be 4.5 or five not 2 to 5. I don't recommend this. Unfortunately, the last two visits at Sullivan's haven't been good. Both visits have been reservations with large groups, in which, Sullivan's is extremely accommodating, but the service has been very slow and subpar. The most recent visit was for 16 to celebrate a birthday during Devour. The restaurant was not busy when we first arrived at 3:00pm Sunday. We were in our own private dining space which we liked. We had 2 waitresses, but there were still long waits in between courses and checks. The wrong food was given to the wrong seat numerous times. Under or overcooked steaks had to be sent back due to them not meeting the request. Some parties opted to order off the Devour menu. After all orders were taken, we were notified they were out of salmon. Approximately, 6 had ordered the salmon. They did allow us to substitute the salmon for a crab cake. I tried the seafood bisque as my appetizer. It was very good with a spicy kick. When they brought out the crab cake, they did not bring out the side of spinach that initially came with the salmon, we had to request it. After desserts were sorted out, we had a long wait for the individual checks, only for them to be incorrect and inconsistent with the gratuity. Some had 20-29% gratuity charges although the order subtotals were the same. We ordered at 3:50pm after waiting for everyone to arrive and look over the menu. We didn't leave until at 7:00pm due to long waits and check/card mix up. The overall experience was not worth the money or time spent. read more

Our reservation was at 6:15 PM. We arrived early at 6:00 and were seated promptly. That's about where the positive experience ended. On our server's suggestion, we placed our appetizer and entrée order immediately so the kitchen could "time it properly." Forty-five minutes later, our appetizer finally arrived -- Oysters Rockefeller -- except there were no oysters. Just a pile of spinach, breadcrumbs, and what looked like undercooked chunks of canned meat. I ate three before realizing there was literally no oyster in the shell. When I pointed it out, the server said she was "so embarrassed" and asked if we wanted a new one. Yes, obviously. It then took another 45 minutes for the replacement to arrive. After that, another 30-minute wait for salads. Meanwhile, the table next to us was seated over an hour after we arrived. They ordered, received their food, ate, paid, and left before we even received our main course. It took nearly THREE HOURS to get our entrées. When my sea bass finally arrived, it was cold and poorly presented -- sitting on waterlogged cabbage with wilted herbs thrown on top. It was, without exaggeration, the worst seafood dish I've ever been served at a "high-end" steakhouse. The manager eventually stopped by. I told him directly that the experience had been horrible. For a three-hour wait, he offered us... a salad. We asked for a glass of wine instead. That took another 30-45 minutes to arrive, and came just as we were preparing to leave. In total, we spent FOUR hours there. We saw our waitress maybe four times. There was no urgency, no ownership, and no meaningful apology. They comped the appetizer (that came without oysters) and one small glass of wine. Our bill was close to 300$. The night before, I had better service and food at Texas Roadhouse for $30. This was hands down one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. Based on what we observed, we weren't the only table having issues. We will not be returning. read more

We had a 4:45 reservation for Valentine's Day and arrived 7 minutes late, but I called ahead to let them know. When we walked in, we weren't greeted and stood at the front for several minutes before anyone acknowledged us. We were seated in the "fire side room," which was cold and had worn, broken-down chairs. The overall vibe felt neglected, especially for a holiday reservation. Our server didn't come to the table for 25 minutes. At that point, we ordered everything at once -- drinks, appetizers, salads, and entrees -- just to try to keep things moving. We didn't even receive water until about 35 minutes after being seated. Our appetizers and salads came out together. We ordered a wedge salad, and it arrived as plain iceberg lettuce with tomatoes and ranch dressing -- no blue cheese crumbles, no bacon, nothing close to what a wedge should be. We still didn't have our drinks at that point. An hour and a half after being seated, our steaks finally arrived. Our drinks showed up at the same time. Three of the four drinks were incorrect. After finishing our steaks, our sides came out -- long after the main course. The food was lukewarm, and the plates, silverware, and glasses were foggy and unappetizing. By then, we asked to speak with the manager. He apologized and said corporate had overbooked for Valentine's Day. He told us he would correct all the drinks, bring fresh ones, and refill our water (all of our glasses were empty). He also stated that our appetizers and drinks would be comped. He never returned. Only one corrected drink eventually came out -- after all the food was gone. No other drinks were fixed. We never received water refills. And nothing was comped as promised. Meanwhile, tables seated 30 minutes after us were finishing and leaving well before we did. Every guest in the restaurant looked frustrated and confused. This was, without exaggeration, the worst restaurant experience I've ever had. It felt surreal -- like we were on a hidden camera show. Valentine's Day is not a surprise event on the calendar. Overbooking is not an excuse for poor service, cold food, unfulfilled promises, and a manager who disappears. Truly disappointing from a steakhouse with this reputation. read more

They are out of the mushrooms, risotto and lobster for the au gratin potatoes. Steak had more gristle than you'd expect for a wagyu piece of beef. Crab fried rice is 30% lettuce and cold. 2/10. After about an hour we asked for bread, which was given to us; however, by that time we were starved and just ready to call it a night. One of our steaks was cooked rare when we specified medium rare and the other one was extremely buttery you couldn't even really enjoy the steak. Restaurants get busy, and with the great things I've heard of this place I'm not surprise with how packed it was. Despite this, with paying over $300 all together the restaurant did not live up to the expectations and standards for someone to pay that much for the service and quality of food we received. The bisque was so creamy and perfect. My filet mignon was so tender and delicious, although the salt was too much. We also had a side of crab fried rice and it was FIRE. It's a fine dining experience, especially with the 'Sure Thing' special which is almost an afterthought with a mention (no detail) embedded in a menu touting large steaks at $51-$90+ and a la carte apps, sides and desserts and easily $100 plus per person without beverages. For $49 per person, the 'Sure Thing' separate menu is a combo of an appetizer (Lobster & Shrimp Bisque is sublime) and perfect with the soft & crunchy bread loaf served with soft butter, a choice of 6oz Filet, a Prime 8 oz NY Strip or Salmon. Tami had her usual Filet cooked to medium rare - very tender. I chose the more flavorful NY Strip. Again, it was Prime tender at medium though I ordered medium rare. Still super flavorful and tender and served with a bourbon peppercorn sauce. Both steaks were served with the rich and peppered house mashed potatoes. Dessert choice is also included from 3-4 options. Tami is an over of all things Cheesecake - and like this one very much. I'm a total sucker for bread pudding and found the Bananas Foster Bread Pudding to be very tasty though a bit of a disappointment as it was neither warmed (not even room temp) nor flaming as 'Bananas Foster' suggests. A decent 'Wines by the Glass' list at good prices completes the evening. You can easily enjoy the American huge servings Steakhouse experience without breaking the bank for $75-$80 per person including a glass of good wine each. Our waitress had no etiquette or professionalism. The manager was so overwhelmed I felt bad for him putting out fires all night. He explained that they're were many new hires and he was very apologetic. It was my wife's birthday. We have not been to this restaurant since 1997-98 at that time it was so quiet it was dark it was the food was just amazing had Valley parking it was just beautiful so I thought I would surprise my wife after all these years, go and go back to Sullivan's so I called made a reservation asked about the valet parking for this past Saturday night they said absolutely we get there there is no valet parking our reservation is for 7:00 p.m. we get seated at 7:30 we sit there for 30 minutes we get four dinner rolls two out of the refrigerator the other two were very warm then our waiter finally shows up takes our order about an hour or so later our food comes out we are unable to talk to each other without yelling the entire time since it was so loud in there. So we get our food I cut into my steak it is lukewarm on the outside and it's cold on the inside my mashed potatoes for cold on the outside and even colder on the inside my stuffed shrimp was lukewarm at best so I sent that back and while that was being worked on my wife got into her steak and put her finger down into it and it was about 40°. Her mashed potatoes were also very cold so when the waiter came back with my food we had to send her food back. So we finally get her food back the waiter comes back and says everything will be taken care of and then about 5 minutes later a manager came by and said oh we're just taking off the drinks we were fine with that I mean it's a $300 bill it really wasn't about the money it was about Sullivan's completely ruining a surprise birthday that I had planned for my wife that had just beating breast cancer and this was something very very important to me to have this be something memorable in a good way. I had not gone to this restaurant in years. My 1st experience was great. BUT the service, both in the bar and restaurant was lacking. The waitress mixed up the order and acted like it was our fault. She was hardly present - had to get up to find someone to help us twice. She delivered the bill before we were even finished with dinner. The food was mediocre and the cost high. I was so disappointed and embarrassed as this was a celebration for my foster grandchild's senior send off to college. The restroom floors were dirty and the walls scratched/marked. I finally visited Sullivan's for an early Christmas party so we had the majority of the restaurant to ourselves. Our waitstaff were wonderful and we had a fixed menu to choose from which was a choice of lobster bisque or salad, steak, chicken or salmon, mashed potatoes, and cheesecake for dessert. I feel like everything that I had was delicious, although a sauce or something to accompany the salmon would have helped. It was not dry, just needed something to go along with it. If regular service is this good, I wouldn't mind coming back for a normal dinner. Pricing is what you'd expect for a steakhouse. read more

Food and Service was Amazing here's why! Made reservations for me and my girlfriend's 2nd anniversary together around this place and it defiantly lived up to the expectation. Server we had (Beth) was very friendly and welcoming about it being our first time at Sullivan's and even had a hand written card congratulating our 2 years. Beth had recommended us some popular appetizers the egg rolls and even gave us a non alcoholic drink to toast too. I will say the appetizers did take a little longer than had expected but other than that the food was great, and the steaks were phenomenal. We will be back again and defiantly recommend this place to anyone wanting a fine-dining experience for your partner. read more

My fiancé and I will wait here for Valentine's Day eve because apparently you have to book Valentine's Day a year in advance just about or at least six months according to some other steakhouses in the area. The food was absolutely amazing. The executive waiter that served us was top-tier. Quite literally the best service I've ever received and on top of how busy they were it was absolutely top-notch. Later found out that the reason it was so good is because our server actually worked for the great Gordon Ramsay!!! After finding that out the service made a lot more sense because to be with greatness you have to be great and he truly was the best server I've ever had. Being that this is not the nicest restaurant that I've ever been to, I have experienced high-level service in this tops every experience I've ever had. Now onto the food. I will say that I was a little disappointed with the salad and the soup. The soup being lobster bisque, and the salad being the Caesar salad. It was recommended that we split the salad so we did and out came for maybe five pieces of romaine lettuce with some Parmesan light sauce and about four or five croutons. As I said, we had amazing service, so I honestly thought that he was joking when he handed it to us because the salad was quite expensive for what it was. I'd read it about a five out of 10. Now the lobster bisque, I was so disappointed, and I would say that it tasted like they forgot to put cream in it. It didn't taste fully cooked. It was pretty cold in the middle or maybe not cold but it wasn't really warm at all. I don't know it's hard to describe, but I was so disappointed because it just didn't taste good taste very tomatoey and not creamy the way that it's supposed to be. Now onto the stuff that I've personally enjoyed with my fiancé. Now I loved the beef Wellington bites, but my fiancé didn't like it, I think it was a texture issue, but I loved it the sauce that it came with was great. We both liked the bread that was complementary. My fiancé loved the pineapple shake and drink, but did not like the love bug drink that was a special for Valentine's Day. We decided on the $199 meal for two which includes one Australian Wagyu tomahawk and two freshwater lobster tail. It would normally come with wine, but I don't drink so it would've been a waste to buy the wine as well so we settled for what ended up being $139 for the meat without the wine. As pictured it was amazing. I will say that I requested the steak to be cooked medium, and I would say that about half of it was between medium, rare and rare and the other half was medium to medium well. I understand they were busy, so it was probably had to do with them rushing but it was still really really good. Just the way more raw than I like to eat it. I'm not a big complainer at restaurants. I just leave it for the reviews so if I would've told our waiter that he would've brought us a new one, but that's too expensive of a cut to have them send out another one. The lobster tail was pretty average. I wouldn't say there's anything special about the lobster tail other than the way the butter was delivered. Our waiter brought over two candles with would look to be oil in a small bowl above it and it actually ended up being our butter for the lobster tails and it was really good. Overall, I had a great experience. The total ended up being right at $199 and after tax and ended up being around $217 and after the $75 tip, the grand total ended up being $292 and some change. I think it's important to know how much it was because in the future when people look back at how much it cost in 2025 I think it'll be interesting to see how much things changed one way or another. My grandparents used to go to Sullivans all the time and for Christmas almost every year we would give them gift cards and the amount was typically around $200 and that's about what it cost. My fiancé and I had to have a huge dinner so things haven't changed too much in the past 10 years. read more
