The ambiance is perfect for a date although I wouldve liked for a sectioned off area since they are located so close to the door. The wind and snow made the seating area very cold. However the drinks they served us did eventually warm us to a comfortable temperature. The food was prepared perfectly and with the good portion size you are able to get full. Although I can never eat all my food in puble public so I was further please when J was able to reheat my ffod and it still tasted incredible. 8 out of 10 for sure. I gave them an 8 simply because i went for the devour menu and there were only two course actually bc the dessert was extra, we got it and it was good but still extra. read more

Not bad for a hotel restaurant. The menu was a decent size and the food was good. I had the salmon and shrimp with mashed potatoes and Brussel sprouts. Everything was solid except for the sprouts - way too much balsamic vinegar. Beer selection is OK, nothing overly great. Service was ok as well. My waitress was nice, but seemed a little distracted. They weren't busy, so food came out pretty quick. I would come back again. read more

I've been here a couple times while staying at the Renaissance and it's always been a pleasant experience. The wine menu seems to rotate with a generous selection of reds and whites. We recently had dinner here and everything was great! I ordered something completely out of left field-fish and chips- and joined the clean plate club. I was staying in the hotel so going to Grille 39 was a no brainer. The atmosphere is fine, it's a hotel bar and had two televisions showing sports. The bartenders were attentive and fast. Why my family loves this place: My grandma is hard of hearing and there's an amazing back room where our whole, large family can meet for a peaceful, Christmas meal together. It's large, so people can move around/switch seats to talk and the babies can run around without disturbing anyone. The lighting is dim and peaceful, and the service is always attentive. You can choose menu options for everyone ahead of time (which is what my grandma always does) and then we pick between those. This is a hotel restaurant but not your typical hotel restaurant. Very nice open atmosphere. It is situated in the lobby of the Renaissance hotel. The restaurant has a bar area that is open to the restaurant and lobby in which you can order from the restaurants full menu. The bar has multiple TV's which is nice if you are eating alone. I ordered the salmon. It came on a bed of spinach risotto and a side of vegetables. The salmon was fantastic and the spinach risotto was outstanding. What a pleasant surprise as I did not expect it from a hotel restaurant. The service was friendly and the price was reasonable if not a tad high. Very good food and nice, generic atmosphere. Our waitress was very nice, but when she opened the bottle of wine, she didn't poor a bit & ask us to taste it first. After she poured our glasses, she recorded the wine. It was a nice red. It should have been allowed to breathe. I just don't think she had been properly trained. I was blown away. The entrance is very pretty, modern with many water features. A very good band was playing, dance worthy. Service was low-key and to the point. As a brunch buffet goes, that's key for an enjoyable experience. Don't rush me but do rush away my unwanted dining ware. In terms of the meal, the crab claws were the stand out for me. Cleaned to the point of just enjoying a full bite of sweet crab with no sweat equity. Another highlight was the plethora and placing of condiments. You never had to look for a tasty sauce or compliment to any protein. My favourite was the horseradish cream sauce which was paired with the prime rib. My husband and I were headed out to dinner for our 17th anniversary. We decided to try to stay close to home. We used an app that gave us points for reserving and Grille 39 had a promotion going on to earn more points. The reviews and ratings looked good so I thought it would be worth it to try it out. I was a little hesitant because it was a restaurant in a suburban hotel. For some reason that sort of troubles me! Service was awful but the food redeemed this restaurant. Upon entry around 7 p.m. on a Saturday night, we immediately seated. Looking around there was hardly any other diners in the restaurant. This did make me quite nervous but thought, this means we will have excellent service. Wrong. Service started out great, we ordered our drinks, someone brought our drinks and we waited at least 15 minutes before we even were able to order. The new server told us she was helping the other guy out. Okay, fine. We ordered. 15 more minutes go by and nobody has come back to refill our drinks. At this point, you also expect your salads to be out. At this point, my husband and I were discussing how maybe we should have went to Prime 47 as the prices are similar but we know what kind of service we will get - excellent! So 30 minutes in and we were out of drinks and not a person in sight. Finally, I had enough so I approached the hostess stand where two people were idly standing. I was told a unexpected big party came in after us and that was consuming our server's time. Wrong answer to me. At this point, I am a little annoyed and didn't order another drink. Normal special dinner like this, I would probably have 2-3 cocktails. I will say after mentioning the slow service to the hostess stand, we saw people walking by our table every 3-4 minutes...so at this point maybe a little too special service! ;) Eventually our salads came out, which were huge and we were told the reason why it took so long was they had to cut more lettuce. Okay, just tell me you apologize for the delay, I don't need the excuses! The salads were great but we barely had time to enjoy the salads before our food arrived. Again, service needs some adjustments. The food, though, completely redeemed any ill will there was towards our service. My husband's steak was excellent and prepared exactly how he ordered. My sea bass was perfectly cooked and the lemon caper sauce was delicious. We didn't realize the sides were sort of family style, so we both ordered garlic mashed potatoes and we could have easily shared the one portion between the two of us. My son ordered a black angus burger and he said it was excellent as well. Then there was the truffle mac & cheese. The portion was huge, which we found out later when we got our bill why - they had given us the entree sized order instead of the side order. This was taken care of as well. Being a Yelp user, when we checked in at the restaurant, we received a free dessert with a entree purchase so we took advantage of this offer and order the recommended Apple Cobbler dessert. It is one of the made in the restaurant desserts. It was a large portion - don't order this alone and was excellent! Overall the food was excellent but the service we received prior to me pointing out that we were being ignore was unacceptable - hence the 4 stars. Celebrate Mom at Grille 39. My wife has always been interested in checking out this hidden restaurant in the Renaissance Hotel. The Mother's Day brunch was enough to put the wondering aside and confirm all the hype. The brunch is all you can eat seafood, breakfast, Chinese, pasta, meat carving stations, cheese spread, and dessert mountain all for $39.95 per person. I was more than impressed. Gigantic shrimp, mussels, crab claws that have been prepped and ready to eat, salmon, pork loin, pasta, made-to-order omelettes.... And the pastry chef on top of a raised platform making bananas foster surrounded by chocolate, mini pies, cheesecake..... Amazing. The staff was incredible. A used plate from the buffet sat on the table no more than 2 minutes. A waiter dumped several glasses of water on my back. A clean-up crew was there quickly. The manager offered to dry clean my shirt and gave us a free round of wine. They went out of the way to ensure we left completely happy. And, we did. I had to ask the front desk twice if the restaurant was open. I should have taken this as as sign. The food is below average. The 'chopped' salad was a basic iceberg lettuce house salad, nothing chopped about it. The sea bass fish was extremely greasy -- I could not stomach it. My friend and I used Yelp to find a place for cocktails in Carmel the other night and decided on this place. I struggled to find the entrance since the GPS brought me straight to the Renaissance hotel. I wasn't expecting a hotel restaurant (should have read the reviews better!), but I was tired and decided to go in anyway. It was very bland. I tried a pear vodka drink that was watered down and uninspired. My truffle "fries" were large chunks of baked potatoes. Mac & cheese tasted pretty formulaic. My husband and I recently went here for dinner on a Saturday evening. If I could give this 4.5 stars, I would. Service - 5 Stars We were able to sit down right away, it wasn't busy at all. Our server was very friendly and seemed knowledgeable. He brought out water and bread right away. Our food also came very quickly. I went to Grill 39 after my daughters Baby Dedication, we had a party of about 22 people. We couldn't find a place that was nice enough to celebrate. Not only did Grill 39 accommodate us but they also allowed us to utilize the buffet a little longer. My family was satisfied and everyone was so happy. Also, big shout out to Suma who assisted me in gathering everyone and making sure we were comfortable, I will NEVER forget your hospitality and it is greatly appreciated. Food was fantastic. I had the scallops with a cauliflower mash and broccolini. Loved every bite. Unfortunately, the service at the bar was lacking. I would recommend not eating at the bar if you won't be drinking. I assume that's why I sat with an empty glass for most of the night. This was my first stay at this hotel, and I was not sure at all what the restaurant would be like, but WOW - I was really impressed with what I had for dinner. The hotel was sparsely populated that week, and the restaurant looked almost deserted at 6 PM; I had to wait longer than I liked to get someone to seat me and take my drink order. The bar was quite slow to get my glass of wine to me, but the waitress was quite charming and provided good service through the evening. I ordered a petite filet and a couple of sides. I was quite happy with the way they prepared the food, and it was delicious. The dessert menu was a bit lackluster and what I ordered was just OK. I think I should have selected the apple crisp instead. All in all, this is a really good hotel restaurant. If I lived in the area, I probably would have made it a regular stop. read more

We did breakfast here twice, as well as our anniversary dinner one night. The service was phenominal each and every time. Everyone had a smile on at all times, and they were extremely, genuinely polite. Our waiters and waitresses went out of their way to help at every turn. When the restaurant didn't have a record of the free breakfast with our room, the waiter simply took our word for it and gave us the vouchers for the two days. That's no small favor as breakfast is about $17pp otherwise because of the very nice, fresh spread they put out including fresh, fluffy pancakes, hashbrowns with veggies, eggs with toppings, steel cut oatmeal, etc. As I mentioned, we had an anniversary dinner at 39 Grill as well, and again the service was top notch. The food was unexpectedly great (I say that only because the reviews are mixed) as well. To start, we had a couple of wonderful cocktails, a perfectly encrusted shrimp appetizer, and I had the bass, my wife had a duck, and they surprised us with complimentary cheesecake for dessert. The restaurant isn't cheap, but Yelping other choices in the area, it seemed to be reasonable. Caramel seems to be an affluent suburb so the dining prices don't deviate from my Chicago norms much. Even if I don't stay at the Renaissance again, I may still stop by Grille 39 for a bite. read more

I just love the scallops, spinach risotto and cauliflower au gratin is so good that I've had it several times. The NY strip has garlic on top and is to die for. This is definitely a hidden gem. The full bar is also a plus and the bartenders are fantastic. I just love Crystal and Joey. On the weekends they have live music and the atmosphere matches the service and meals. read more

Tried both sit down at the hotel restaurant and room service. Both are pretty good, Appetizers: The buffalo wing lollipops are really good. They have just enough flavor, but not so spicy you cant feel your mouth. Really no complains. The burger was a little underwhelming. Extra avocados was literally a slice of avocado :( The Ahi Tuna burger was pretty good though! The bread was kinda sweat and the tuna was alright. The Ahi Tuna Salad was probably my meal of all. WOW - did not expect to find this level of fresh seafood and service in Indy! A friend and I were checking out the place as a possible convention site for 2015. There was a 20 coupon in the discover indy 'zoo" book and it was accepted without question. Service was outstanding and the food (I had salmon and friend had mammoth scallops) exceptional with innovative sides and a delicious rosemary flatbread in the complimentary bread basket. We plan to return tomorrow to try the luncheon menu and explore the common areas to be used for meeting room and vendor areas. There even appears to be a small encosed private dining room within the main area, It is such a well appointed hotel with such a wonderful ambience that I hope it is within the convention budget! The service was poor, but because of our large group were charged the 20 percent tip rate. Our water glasses were never filled up even though they were all empty. We were staying at Spring Hill Suites and Katie, at the front desk suggested Grille 39, located in the Renaissance Hotel just down the street. It was a great suggestion. We had Valentine's dinner here. The fixed menu is $65 pp for 3 courses, but they were kind enough to provide the children's menu for our 8 yr old. I had the scallop and pork belly app with pea risotto. Definitely the best course for me. Scallop was perfect, pork belly was nicely rendered but under seasoned and the risotto was very tasty. My husband had the oysters Rockefeller, he said he wouldn't order them again. The oyster was still connected to the abductor muscle and hard to eat. We both had the crab stuffed sea bass for our entree. Sea bass is my favorite, so I was really excited. Unfortunately, the big clump of cold mashed potatoes, the skinny, dried out asparagus and the watery lemon beurre blanc really took away from the fish. The fish was a nice portion and cooked nicely, but the crab stuffing had a very distinct banana flavor and everything was cold. Very disappointing. The desserts were just not good. The chocolate lava cake was very dry and bitter, just completely missing sweetness. The blood orange panna cotta was flavorless and had too much gelatin. And the automatic 20% gratuity was unnecessary. Not somewhere we will visit again. My son's french fries had the best-seasoning of the meal. read more

Friends rave about this restaurant located inside the Renaissance hotel so we gave it a try for a birthday dinner. The service was outstanding; friendly, attentive and capable. Unfortunately this restaurant is set up more for casual than fine dining. Most of the restaurant is open to the lobby or the bar. This is problematic on weekends because the hotel has recently decided to compete in the youth sports teams market so it is overrun with kids. I'm continually a fan of Grille 39. I really just think it became one of my "go to" places when I first moved to Carmel 4 years ago and it stays in my normally ever rotating restaurant fixes. I love the apple crisp dessert with ice cream on the side, served piping hot with a balance of sweet apples and crunch that I sometimes go WAY out of my way to have. I love the salmon and the mashed potatoes. I also am a huge fan of the blue cheese wedge salad with steak. SOOOO good. I mean, this place is a really well kept secret. Every time I mention it, people haven't been and didn't know it was there. Obviously it's inside of a hotel which I think is why it stays so under the radar. It's always easy to book a last minute group. Most recently the semi-private room WAS booked and instead of making us pay for the private space, they just gave it to us b/c we had more than 10 coming. It was an unexpected surprise and one we all truly appreciated as we threw it together last minute. It's always appreciated when a restaurant will go out of its way to make you feel welcome and comfortable. Service is always good. They are super laid back and chill most of the time and I often see the same servers all the time which means, low turnover. Love that. Give it a go. You may be pleasantly surprised. It's usually pretty quiet so a great place to have a glass of wine, unwind and talk or go alone and appreciate the food with barkeep as your new friend. My family and I made a reservation for their Easter bunch. When we arrived the food looked great, live music, ambiance seemed wonderful. We were greeted and promptly taken down a hall and in to a conference room that was set up as overflow seating with two 8' tables pushed together making an 8x8 squares. We were 3. The table legs prevented you from sitting on the ends so that left us side by side and a table for 12. When we asked to be reseated it took an inordinate amount time to have Jeremy the acting manager tell us we could not be accommodated. Totally understand busy Easter bunch. Completely unacceptable that they took our reservation without an acknowledgement that we were going to be in overflow seating. At $40 per person I would have expected more.
