I can always count on Kona Grill for a great late night destination with amazing happy hour pricing! The food is really good. The staff is friendly and helpful. They even give bottled water and snacks to delivery drivers. How cool is that? Love the sushi and cheeseburger with house made chips! A very good assortment of appetizers and cocktails as well. It's a pretty place to eat at Clay Terrace and enjoy the patio when the weather permits. It is also one of the few restaurants in Carmel open late on weeknights which is very much appreciated! read more

Oh, Mondays are all day happy hour on some food. Let's go with something familiar of $9 BBQ chicken flatbread. Let's try the $6 macadamia chicken but surprisingly the appetizer does not come with sweet chili green beans and the nuts are in the breading. Now, to meet my dollars to spend, let's try the $9 (6) chicken dumplings but came with no veggies so pricey. Lastly, $3 chicken satay but should have asked for Thai peanut sauce on the side as I did not like the taste so I took half of my takeout dish to my co-worker. Server was excellent. Kona Grill - I recommend that your Happy Hour menu be more detailed as dishes are not half the size. I tried new pricey dishes, but your sister restaurant food appeals to me more. read more

Honestly my husband and I were very disappointed with the serving sizes/ quality of the food in relation to the cost. We ordered coke zeros, potstickers, KG sliders, and waygu fried rice and it cost us over $100. The portion sizes are small!! Without the appetizer, we would have left hungry. The grilled onions on my sliders were a joke.. one of them had ONE grilled onion on it. We will not be returning. I won a silent auction item for a "Chefs dinner for 2" at a fundraising event. It was amazing! Very generous of the restaurant to donate to a local nonprofit, and our meal was incredible. One of the best happy hours I've been to in a while! The prices were so good for the portions you received. My favorite was the chicken fried rice and hamburger. The rice tasted like Benihana, soft, flavorful and plenty of chicken. The burger was delicious too, it was crispy and I loved the special sauce they provided. Our waitress was very nice too! Came late after a show due to their amazing happy hour. Our waitress told us that the food would come out so fast! It did not and to make it worse the sushi that was ordered didn't come out I with everyone else's food due to not printing. It was pretty quiet inside so we were wondering what was taking so long. Popped in for lunch after taking a baking class at a nearby restaurant. We didn't have a reservation but was able to get in and seated right away. I come here a lot, it's a large enough restaurant that you can always get seated without a wait. Plenty of seats in the main dining room and in the bar. I like sitting in the bar area and people watching through the patio feel dining area. I got the angry edamame which is a favorite of mine. We got food and drink and they put on the soccer game we wanted to watch. That was what we wanted, and they certainly met our needs! I found this place by just looking on Yelp for sports bars because the guys really wanted to watch a particular game, and then was a little anxious that this place might be too nice once we got there...but they were happy to seat us in the bar area, and since I had called them ahead to make sure they could show they game, they quickly put it on for us. We came here over the weekend to celebrate my aunt's 75th birthday. Let me start by saying the food was great, but the service was a bit slow. The restaurant wasn't too busy at the time, and our table actually had two servers--one of whom seemed to be in training. Interestingly, the trainee felt more efficient than the veteran server. Both were very kind, but we often felt like our table was forgotten. We even had to get up a couple of times to check on our server. That said, the food definitely made up for it! My family and I chose Kona Grill to celebrate my aunt's 75th birthday yesterday. While the food and drinks were pretty good the service was lacking for most of the meal. It took 30 minutes for some people to get a drink at the bar, appetizers took just about as long and came out just before our food. 4 people at the table ordered the salmon dish pictured and all four by portion sizes were vastly different. The second half of our dinner I think the manager noticed our frustration and came over to assist the waiter and the young lady he was training which improved our experience. After walking around keystone shopping mall, we were looking for somewhere to eat with less than an hour wait. After a short Google search, we easily made a reservation at Kona Grill. We were seated right away upon arrival. Kurt, our server greeted us immediately. One of our glasses was dirty, and he switched it out right away and filled our glasses with water. I ordered a watermelon margarita. A blue moon for the hubby. I have to admit I was a bit wary of the menu. American cuisine with sushi?! I saw a sushi bar and a regular bar. Something was off. But I decided to risk it. I was hungry and I love sushi. Our drinks arrived and they were great. We ordered-penne pasta with chicken for my daughter, burger with bacon, avocado and fries for the hubby, and the sushi plate for me (includes an Asian salad, roll (I got the spicy tuna), and 3 pieces of sushi (I picked two tuna, one salmon). We enjoyed our drinks and watched as the place got busier. Our food arrived in a reasonable amount of time. I was shocked. It looked delicious! All of it. Sushi, burger, pasta with bread. What is happening? It tasted as good as it looked. Kurt got us another round and kept our waters filled. He got busy with a few large tables, so we paid with the little device on the table. The prices are fair and not overpriced. Overall, I was pretty impressed that this place was able to do more than one cuisine in the same place. I was there for a recent event put on by a friend so I wasn't paying but it was a $65/person affair and I couldn't help but leave a review as I feel others need get a perspective should they desire to do the same. First, the food was good. I don't think there was anything wrong with the food but I wasn't wowed by it. I don't think there was a single thing I had there that was memorable or felt like if I had wanted to come back I'd definitely order it. What came out was multiple but very small plates of food ranging from salad and some vegetables and rice (Ok they had a brown rice that was actually really good...) and then worked their way up through some chicken, beef and fish. The portions were small and there were occasions when some of us were hesitant to take the last piece off a plate for fear of stealing food from someone else. $65 per person and we are worried about whether there is enough food there??? It was all average too and nothing to get excited about. I genuinely felt bad for my friend who had paid all this money for this. Also, don't even think of this place if you are a vegetarian. Several attendees were and there was almost nothing to eat except salad and one vegetable and some rice. Now, whether the food portions were enough could be a result of how frequently they could server which seemed slow and haphazard. The server was very polite and seemed attentive but had so many small dishes to run back and forth that sometimes it seemed like she had trouble with it all. Just bring out some larger portions all at once and get it over with. These weren't appetizers being brought out they were supposed to be the main part of the meal and yet they were served like that. I know there are fancy places that have seven course meals and bring out one peanut sliced in half as a course but this wasn't that type of place nor the caliber of food. A final nail in the coffin that was a complete miss is there there was such a large delay in getting to the point of bring desserts out that everyone thought the meal was over and started getting up and mingling and then some even leaving and then, as an afterthought, asked some (not all) if they wanted dessert. I had to find someone to even ask to bring mine and then had to share it with another because apparently $65 doesn't cover your own dessert which, btw, was ice cream and a brownie. Big buck treats! So I can't say how they are normally, or if this place would even deserve another chance, but I can honestly say I feel my friend was ripped off and based on my experience, I'd never touch the place again. read more

Our group of 11 arrived for Thanksgiving lunch and were greeted nicely at the door and the waitress took our orders. One of the steaks was barely lukewarm and the cod in the fish and chips had an odd taste and wasn't eaten. The Kona rolls were good. Our waitress was good at first, the food arrived quickly, and the orders were correct. Then she disappeared for too long. They were only about half full, so I don't think she was overloaded. The place wasn't busy at all, with only a few other tables, yet we were blatantly ignored while servers waited on everyone else. After being completely overlooked, we walked out. Happy Hour review only! Sat at the bar, read a book, observed all that was going on. The lettuce wrap portion looked good for the $9 HH price. I got the chicken satay, $3, small, good, but small. The satay and the peanut sauce are interesting flavors to combine. The slaw adds a Big Crunch, and it's full of cilantro. I would do the shrimp taco next time. The margarita is in a cordial glass full of ice, it was probably 4 ounces for $6. Menu and pricing attached to my review, you'll have to turn your phone, lol. So my hotel recommended Kona Grill and even gave me a discount card, which I now realize was probably their way of saying, "Go, you'll be the only one there--bring life to the party." I ordered the pub burger with fries. Nothing earth-shattering, but it was solid--cooked well, seasoned decently, fries crisp. The kind of burger that says, "I'll never win an award, but I'll get you through the night." The menu is huge, especially with seafood and sushi. The bartender told me the sushi is what people rave about, so maybe next time I'll level up from "Burger & Fries Guy" to "Spicy Tuna Roll Guy." Now, let's talk about the bartender. Absolute pro. Friendly, attentive, and most importantly--he was kind enough to throw on the Yankees game for a New Yorker stranded in Indiana. That's top-tier hospitality in my book. The place itself is massive. On a late Tuesday night, though, it was basically me and the echoes of my own chewing. If you've ever wanted to feel like you rented out an entire restaurant for yourself, this is your shot. Pro tip: mention you're staying at a hotel nearby and ask about a discount--they slipped me one, and it made the burger taste at least 15% better. All in all: solid burger, sushi still on my to-do list, bartender deserves a raise, and Kona Grill might just be the most exclusive club in Carmel on a Tuesday night. read more

Shocked mostly because how in the world was a $37 chicken breast not jaccarded and overcooked... Chicken that cost more than $14 should not be prepared so horribly. Ordered takeout on Christmas Day which I understand is a busy day but they should have given a better estimate of the time: they said order would be ready by 6:50 so we showed up at that time but we didn't get our food until 8:20. It was also unclear if maybe they lost our order as they said they couldn't find it after we had already been waiting for ~40 minutes. When we finally got the order it turned out that they totally forget one item and for another item they said they ran out and so just arbitrarily decided to substitute it for something else which they didn't ask about - they just wrote it on the receipt. The food was only ok at best honestly not that great. I met a friend for dinner tonight at Kona Grill. I haven't been in quite a while so I was happy to eat there again. Once we sat down, I noticed the menu wasn't the same. It was trimmed down quite a bit. There was no sushi menu just a couple options. My favorite, Cilantro Lime Chicken was missing amongst other popular menu items. I asked the server if the selections online were still available and she confirmed they were. I opted for the Pad Thai with chicken. It was, to say the least, just okay and definitely not $31 worth. My friend had a couple sushi rolls. He said his dinner was also just okay. Needless to say I left feeling hungry and unsatisfied. I should have stayed home and cooked dinner. read more

I had a family member suggest Kona Grill several times over the past few months, and we had been meaning to go for a while. We decided on Easter since we were last minute and most other places were full. I should have known it wasn't the best when I noticed how empty it was. There was a brunch menu that I probably would have been happy with, but I decided against it. The service was not bad at all. It was just that I didn't feel like the food was worth the high prices. Now if you're into sushi and rolls and all that, it may be good. But I just didn't like my order, which was shrimp tacos. Nothing I had was worth the $100+ price tag for my family of 3. Kona Grill ALWAYS hits the spot with food and service. Tonight I went in around 9pm with my husband & daughter and enjoyed some delicious food on the patio. We got tons of items off the happy hour menu (best happy hour in the city by a landslide.) We had the California roll, crab crunch roll, avocado egg rolls, chicken & shrimp lettuce wraps, and angry edamame. Aside from having the best happy hour their kids meals have an incredible selection and my 11 year old loves the Cali roll with green beans! have always appreciated the quality food here and tonight we super appreciated the excellent and efficient service from Brittany-she is such a rare gem and I hope Kona keeps her forever!!
