On Tuesday, they have a different taco special. As takeout, I tried two steak fajita tacos with chips and salsa for $12. Their unique sauce was delicious although looks different. The chips were crunchy and not salty; salsa was great, too. A recommendation is that they have two shells per taco as one just breaks apart making it hard to eat as a taco. I asked for no pico. First, my breakfast old fashioned was smoky and delicious! It was made with Buffalo Trace and I loved the cherry. I am on a mission to find the best smash burger. This was a 9.0 out of 10! The meat had flavor and the rest of the burger was amazing! I'm not one for eating the whole sandwich but I was today! It was that good!! It had their "burger sauce" maybe mayo and ketchup. Waited about 20 minutes to be told the Porter I wanted was not available (but it ended up on the bill) The shrimp spaghetti squash was mushy and salty. I sent it back. The Manager did come out to apologize. Brussels sprout were tasty but maybe a little overdressed. Hubby's fish and chips were edible but looked a little sparse on the large black plates. I'd increase the price and fill the plate with more fries and another piece of fish. My beans and cornbread appetizer was pretty tasty but cornbread was more like cake. I've been here several times. The food and service are always excellent. I've had the tenderloin, steak salad and a few other items. It's always consistently good. They have a full bar and an area for families as well. The prices are reasonable. I definitely recommend. read more

Not only does the food suck, for example the tenderloin was soggy on one side, the drink, that was so inventive, was tasteless.full of ice, no alcohol. Out story: We were looking for a quick Sunday-after-church. We are foodies and steer away from chains for this meal. We didn't want the usual places we go. We decided to stop in at the Local. Luckily, they just restarted Sunday service. Their story: They just restarted Sunday service and have a very limited menu and staff. Our server told us that if there was something we wanted from the standard menu, she would see what they could do (time, ingredients, etc. - being a cook myself, I know sauces, etc. could be impossible...). They are in the process of addressing customer feedback (complaints) with concerns about noise level, etc. Since Sundays are slow, they had unfinished decorations and rolls of paper. They left us to eat and socialize and didn't work on these tasks in the front. The experience: we were the only people in, so service and sound level (a common complaint) were perfect. They have a wonderful drink and cocktail menu that is innovative. The mock tails are just as creative and enticing. The sandwiches and salads are the Local menu standards. No surprises for customers, so comfort for returnees looking for their favorites. The loaded tots have all the best on one tray. A real winner. The Ham and bean soup was good as well as the house salad. My husband was a little disappointed with the size of the patty in his lamb burger. The Bottom Line: we will return on Sunday. The food is good and not the usual Sunday brunch eggs and.pancakes (although they have beignets so you can go sweet if you wish and still enjoy something new). The Local just started up with a band tonight. They are too F****** loud. I asked three people, including the manager to adjust it lower. The band increased the volume!!!!! I could not hear my dinner companions and neither could three other tables. DONT GO HERE UNLESS YOU WANT YOUR HEARING BLASTED TO SMITHEREENS. A friend had a decibel meter. Lately my family has been looking for new restaurants to try out in the area instead of just ordering takeout from our favorite chains. My mom saw that this place was close, and so we went to try it out. It was the perfect place for a relaxing Saturday night dinner with plenty of entrée options and appetizers to choose from. At the time we went it appeared that the dinner rush was just ending, so we got the comforting chatter of an active restaurant that didn't intrude on my family's own conversations. Unfortunately my family isn't big on appetizers so I definitely missed out, but there's always next time. I ordered the Smash Burger, which was delectably hot and juicy, with a side of waffle fries. Although I went a little basic with my order there were plenty more adventurous options for people that enjoy trying more complex dishes. The portions given for the food could probably be considered small compared to other restaurants, so it left me wanting a bit more, but the quality of the food was not lacking. Especially since this business prides itself on using local ingredients. Of course we also had to get dessert. We ordered the Chocolate Torte, which was delicious. My family had no issue with the service. The staff was amiable and welcoming. Furthermore, we were served in a reasonable timeframe. Overall I would say that I would go back here to try out more of the options on the menu. Handsome husband had BBQ sandwich, NOT soaked in sauce which is a good thing! Fries were crispy and fresh. I had shrimp protein bowl. Shrimp were blackened perfectly and tender, not chewy or tough. Quinoa was a copious serving, but squash was cubed, mushy and tasteless...???frozen. Fresh roasted would have been ideal. Walnuts were nice crunch. Kale only made a nominal showing....so disappointed....BUT had so much to take home, we had breakfast. This is where we put in our offer to buy our house in Lochaven two years ago so we have fond memories. But we also like their food and drinks. They have good bourbons and their mixed drinks are great. And they have a nice mock tail selection. My favorite is the meatball - I always order a second one to bring home. Great little Caesar salad and bread. The lemon caper garlic shrimp on spaghetti squash is the next favorite. I also love the roasted beet salad. My husband gets the sandwiches. And if you have room, the beignets are a real treat! There is a secluded section for families with kids apart from the adult section that includes the bar. Wait staff are all efficient and friendly. Been fans of this place but was let down tonight. Plain Jane 6.5/10 they took off my favorite burger with tomato jam so I had to switch it up. Basic burger, nothing special. Great tater tots. Tenderloin 7.5/10 best thing tonight! We got two, one was more grisly than the other but overall pretty good. BBQ Wings 6/10 really did not like these. Under new management and they've done everything right! The new management has fixed the noise/ambience issues and have improved on the menu. Everything we've had recently has been so good! Went there today for the tenderloin sandwich to find out they have a reduced menu on Sunday's. That's fine and decided to try the loaded tots and wings. The loaded tots was HUGE but so bland and nothing was warm but the tots. The Mac and cheese and pulled pork were cold with a few spots being barely warm and it felt like I was eating old leftovers the were poorly attempted to be warmed up. The wings dry rub tasted like straight paprika. The fry on them was good but ruined by how much paprika was used. Server was nice but everything was slow especially considering we were one of 3 tables. We have enjoyed the local in the past but this kind of ruined it for us. We may try again after some time but definitely not on the reduced menu Sunday. read more

They claim to be under new management or ownership via the sign out front and I want to like this place more, but I have generally found it to come up short in value due to high prices for what you get. To their credit, our server Amanda was awesome at tending to my colleagues and me. Another positive item was that I did very much enjoy the taste of my porter that was on tap. The issues were that $9 for the beer and $15 for my falafel wrap and fries (that was semi-lacking in falafel) seemed a tad high. I am willing to occasionally give them a try in hopes their food matches their prices, primarily because of their convenient location. read more

Arrived at 4:30pm to have a nice dinner with friends. We ordered a drink each. Mine was good, but my wife sent hers back because it was very watered down. We ordered dinner and the steaks came out very cool. The manager came over and they took the steaks back to be put back on the grill. We ordered medium rare and was served very medium steaks. the place was not busy and the drinks were watered down and the food was cool. This review is tricky. I want this place to do well because there are not a lot of great options around us... but. The last couple of times we have went I leave hungry. The portions aren't great - and the veggies are soooo lacking. This photo of our shrimp bento bowl had 4 shrimp and 2 slices of a green and yellow squash. I know restaurants skimp on veggies but this is bad. It was like this last time we came and I got the salmon and asparagus with rice- it was probably one whole asparagus spear in the whole thing. Very pricey for the meat you get. Lots of rice though. Good flavor but just not all there. Cocktails are good. TGIF! I had been cooking dinner at home all week - so we decided to order carryout from a local restaurant to celebrate Friday evening and the weekend! My husband was on a mission to try The Local, so I started looking at the menu and pretty much immediately found what I was going to order. The Local's website starts off making a general statement about their offerings: "...hand-crafted, freshly made artisan foods, locally crafted ales, and cocktails, using all-natural and organic ingredients when available." Okay...they had my attention! I rarely order a burger when we dine out - but I was craving one tonight and I landed on Old Smokey...a 17 day aged local beef burger topped with bacon, smoked aioli, house giardiniera, and smoked gouda. For my side I chose fries and splurged for the Cajun seasoning, which is a $0.75 upcharge. I ordered my burger medium rare and it came that way. I was very happy about that! The giardiniera was a bit... chunky. It had a great flavor, but the carrots were really big and fell off the sandwich as I was eating it...kinda messy. I probably won't splurge on the Cajun seasoning again, either. It was good...but not THAT good. Since we ordered carryout I didn't have a chance to look around much, but the staff member I interacted with was masked, which was very comforting. Our order took a little longer than they predicted it would, but again, since we ordered carryout, that wasn't a deal breaker. All in all, a pretty average experience - but I think we would venture back again sometime and try something else off the menu. read more

With my week off winding down, I took one more opportunity today to try out a new to me restaurant and to snag another Yelp review. The Local Eatery & Pub is located in Westfield at 146th & Gray Road. I'll confess that I'd originally headed up there to try another nearby establishment, but when I went there I ultimately decided it wasn't what I was looking for today. I wanted a decent meal, a quiet setting, actual service, and maybe even outdoor dining. Mission accomplished. I headed back to this place that I'd passed. I had no idea what to expect, though usually the word "pub" gives quite a bit away. Their website indicates that they are a farm to table driven restaurant focusing on families, a rather nice emphasis given that many farm to table establishments tend to lean toward finer dining. While that doesn't necessarily mean that The Local is inexpensive, it certainly means prices are pretty reasonable and the atmosphere is a lot less pretentious than in some farm to table places I've been. The Local is located in a strip center that looks like it's about half full. There's a couple disabled parking spots directly by the entryway with an appropriate curb cut. At least one, if not both spots, would work for wheelchair spacing needs. You go in through the main door to a hosting area. It looks like they have a couple different rooms for dining, plus a private entry bar area that is, quite obviously, not for the kids. They also offer outdoor dining directly in front of the restaurant. All of these areas are on one level with no steps involved. The hostess was obviously comfy with the wheelchair and quite deliberate in giving me a workable table that offered both access and shade. She moved a chair. The Local offers a solid alcohol menu that includes local brew options. For my Kombucha loving friends, they offer a Kombucha option from Circle City Kombucha. The food menu consists of Market Specials (Essentially their higher-end entrees), sandwiches (a variety of burgers, tenderloin, etc.), starters, quite a few salad options, a children's menu, desserts, and more. It's really a menu that goes beyond the usual pub fare. I ended up ordering the Plain Jane, a burger made from 17-day aged, local beef with lettuce, tomato, onion, and their house sauce. It comes with fries or tots - cajun seasoning can be added for $1.00. You can substitute soup or salad for $1.50. I went with tots because, well, I wanted them. The burger, pictured with this review, was a nice chunk o' meat cooked as ordered (medium well). I openly confess I picked off the tomato (they freak me out. I have issues) and the lettuce (Is there some actual purpose for lettuce?). The burger was delicious - it's nice to have a burger that doesn't seem like it disappears in 3-4 bites. The tater tots were an absolutely delight, with a serving size that complemented the meal nicely and let me satisfied but not stuffed. My unsweetened iced tea was filled twice, so that's a huge plus. My server was Sydney - she was spot on. She was friendly, patient, helpful and attentive without being overbearing. You can always tell when I like a server - I typically pay a bill by trying to get as close as possible to an even dollar amount. In this case, I had no issue going over because I wanted to make sure her tip was fair. I also appreciated the ability to linger a bit. I think you can also tell a lot about a business by the customers - and I found this place had really friendly customers who openly engaged, but not in an intrusive way. It was nice. While I wouldn't call this a 5-star experience, it's a solid 4-star experience and there's no question I'd return when I'm in the area. It's a beautiful setting, solid food, great service, and a great way to experience farm to table without going completely broke. Give them a try! read more

We tried the Local for the first time this evening and loved it! The waitress was very friendly and helpful. Their menu has a lot of variety and healthy options as well as standard pub food. The mahi mahi special was amazing. They should make it a regular menu item. They also had spaghetti squash with shrimp in lemon sauce, which I haven't seen on any other menus. Their cocktails are inventive, good beer selection as well. They offer desserts: beignets & pie from a Zionsville pie shop. We will definitely be back often!! read more

Meh. I was initially excited to try this place with friends for a double-date. More of a forgetful, rather than memorable meal. IMO, it was fairly pricey for the value received. Our party of 4 ordered 3 appetizers. They were out of the goat cheese one. Not sure how you are "out" when it's already a limited menu. - The hummus platter only came with a few pita slices, so that was a bit disappointing. - pretzel is only offered with mustard. Honestly, it needed cheese. - wings - kudos here! We were able to try different sauces. I preferred "Nashville hot." It was pretty spicy but not your typical "Nashville hot" flavor. - street corn salad with salmon. ($21) - only the salmon was enjoyable. The Local has been one of our favorites since we moved to Hamilton County 10 years ago. My wife had surgery last Fall so we hadn't been there for a few months. Evidently, the restaurant has a new owener who is dismantling the unique characteristics that have provided the unique charm we enjoy. However, we can ignore the menu holders for the paper menus that reminded you that you might find a new gem on the menu. Also, the strangeness of having butcher block paper on top of cloth tablecloths. This place doesn't know what it is anymore. I could ignore all that if the food was its normal high quality. I ordered the pork tenderloin, which has always been delicious. Rather that being served on a plate it was served in a paper lined plastic basket like you might get at a fast food restaurant. Unfortunately, it also tasted like fast food quality. This no longer feels like the unique farm to table restaurant we loved so much. It seems to be moving to the generic kind of place that sells a $15 hamburger. I don't know if we will be back to give another try and I am sure we will not be taking our out of town visitors there as we have in the past. read more

I hate this. we blamed the poor service and quality a year ago on COVId. Then 12/16 we gave it another shot. We got our first drink 15 minutes in a 10% full bar and brushed it off. Orders a chef special mahi and fritter and wife ordered plain hamburger. She's a heathen Her burger arrived with all the fixings she didn't want pand I bite into my fritter and it was raw. Like stick to your finger raw. And no sauce to dip. Waitress asked me if I wanted to keep the fish and rice and I'm like "no, want my meal together.". 25 minutes later it shows up. Rice and mahi cold and the fritter burnt. Beat part: the jerk refiring shoved his finger in the fritter and they came back one short because he redid the same ones. W. O. W!! All the tables are covered with dispensable paper sheets. The restrooms have hands free soap dispensers and paper towel dispenser. So, I think the management has done everything possible to make sure that the people feel safe which is impressive. This was our first time here and we had the chicken gyro, Nashville hot chicken sandwich which comes with fries or tots. The Nashville hot chicken was HOT but I loved it. The gyro sandwich was ok. I wish we ordered something else instead of the gyro. We got the fries and tots seasoned with Cajun seasoning. We also have the vanilla milkshake which was tasty. The ambiance is great but the wait time was a little long even though there were only a few people dining in. The place is located in a plaza and is easy to find and there is ample parking place available We will definitely go back again to try things on the menu.
