I stumbled onto this place today. BBQ wasn't on the schedule, but one of my old favorites is closed on Tuesdays, so I needed a quick lunch spot and here I was. It was a hot day, and I don't think their A/C was working. The restaurant was hot and humid, and I genuinely felt bad for everyone working there. They were all smiles, so maybe they mind the heat less than I do. I would not have been all smiles. The menu has all the usual BBQ favorites. I went with the brisket, mac and cheese, and okra, then followed it up with a corn muffin. It was good. I love brisket. But I didn't find it better or worse than any of the other BBQ places I've tried, and in Texas that's a crowded field. The owner came by the table a few times. Nice guy. How did I know he was the owner? Because his face is plastered everywhere. They appear to hand out coloring book pages of his head, which customers then color in and post all over the walls. Charming or mildly unsettling? I genuinely cannot decide. I'm leaning charming. Ask me again on a cooler day. Food was good. Atmosphere, eh. If I'm in the area again and want BBQ, I'd drop in. I like to give restaurants more than one chance if the first visit leaves more to be desired; however, the owner has made that impossible. First, the soda machine may need a good cleaning as none of the sodas we tried tasted quite right. Then, the catfish was inedible. The texture was rubbery and it was extremely difficult to cut into. I tried one bite and it was awful and seemed unsafe to eat. Something definitely went wrong in the kitchen. However, when this was brought to the owner's attention, he didn't apologize but instead tried to guilt me, the customer, with, "Aw, you didn't like my catfish?" The staff at the register showed him the catfish and I directly told him it was inedible and explained why. His response? "That's ok. You're not hurting my feelings." It wasn't personal and it's weird that he tried to make it about him. I doubt a single soul wants to eat rubbery catfish. A simple apology would have gone a lot further. read more

Came on a weekend evening and there was a line waiting. Place was busy and bustling, but food was coming out in a timely manner. Live music on the outdoor porch. It was quite hot, but with the way the interior is built, it is a given the ventilation isn't too well - old and rustic. Banana pudding was yummy, however, there was a brunette piece of hair lodged in it. Sanitation overall was still clean; hair tied up, gloves used, etc so I'm sure it was an honest mistake. However, it ruined my dessert appetite so -1 star. Brisket was absolutely delicious and well-seasoned. You know how the meat sometimes looks gray? Not here. It was heavenly and not crazy fatty. The building has that iconic old BBQ restaurant vibe with a large patio with picnic tables. When stepping inside, you're enthusiastically greeted by the staff. The cashier asks if it's your first time, and if it is...more enthusiasm fills the restaurant. Once you order, the cashier hands you a buzzer. You pick your order up from the pickup area when it buzzes. They offer three types of brisket cuts; fatty, mixed and lean. We've had the fatty which melts in your mouth, but will get the mixed next time for the chew. The flavor is good and smoky, but the fatty cut didn't keep me from devouring it. The ribs have an excellent salty rub and fall off the bone. I appreciate the 3 BBQ sauce options; original, bourbon and habenero. All 3 are delicious and the habenero isnt too spicy. The cheddar sausage has a good amount of cheddar cheese. They have a condiment bar with pickles, onions and jalapenos. We love the pork empenadas, the pork feels like a creamy porky paste deliciousness with a crust like that of a puff pastry. It was so flaky and almost muted the pork. The ladies restroom is a single seater, but it is very clean and decorated with the care of a homeowner. Terry Sullivan even graces your table to check in and make you feel welcome in his restaurant. I appreciated him being hands on in his restaurant and took notice that his staff seem genuinely happy to work there. Cooked to perfection with excellent flavor. Ribs: Disappointing. Although they were smoked, they lacked seasoning and were very bland. Grandma's Collard Greens: Underwhelming. Their brisket is soooo juicy and they have so many choices for sides. Their pork rib portion great for the price!! We found the outside quaint and inviting. Inside was simple, tables and chairs with an open plating and serving area. We were able to order fairly quickly and our plates were ready in minutes. My son ordered the 2 meat plate with brisket and mild sausage. Both were tender and seasoned. The brisket is a little salty but, tasty. Cole slaw was different in flavor but, I liked it. Mac and cheese was just ok for me but, my son loved it. I ordered the loaded nachos and was kind of disappointed. The picture on the website has pico, grated cheese and sour cream and looked delicious. Mine was just liquid cheese, chips and chopped brisket. Now the brisket was VERY good mind you. But, it looked better with all the "loaded" toppings. Loaded to me means loaded. Not just cheese and meat. I would return tho and try the loaded baked potato or maybe just some sliced brisket. read more

Sides are mediocre at best. Brisket is absolutely fire! The texas twinkie bacon is very fatty. They also ask how you want ur brisket lean or fatty, i said very lean and it still had a good amount of fat on it. Overall a 6/10 brisket saved them a good amount. Also they didn't have okra due to weather they said it made it more hot in their but it was already super hot in their which could be avoided with a better A/C system. read more

The brisket was tender and smoky, the pulled pork was excellent, and the bologna was surprisingly one of my favorites. Sides were just as good -- creamy potato salad, fresh coleslaw, and flavorful collard greens. The jalapeño cornbread was also a great touch. You order at the counter when you walk in and they greet you right away. They even ring a bell for first-time customers, which adds a fun, welcoming vibe. Our first stop on our barbeque tour- Sullivan was super friendly. The manager gave us a piece of brisket with chimichurri on it- holy cow! I loved that they had smoked cabbage as a side, which is super unique. The corn muffins were decent but I would pass next time (they weren't warm either). We also had a combo plate with Brisket, Corn, Mac and Cheese, and Collard Greens. Those Collard Greens are phenomenal, full of flavor and perfectly tender. Both entrees came with a delicious house made roll and cinnamon butter that we an amazing dessert. I did see a sweet lady handing our Cinnamon Rolls. She ran out just before our table, but she really just saved me from shoving that cinnamon roll in when I was already full. :). I will be back for sure and I hope I can get one next time.
