I like to give restaurants more than one chance if the first visit leaves more to be desired; however, the owner has made that impossible. First, the soda machine may need a good cleaning as none of the sodas we tried tasted quite right. Then, the catfish was inedible. The texture was rubbery and it was extremely difficult to cut into. I tried one bite and it was awful and seemed unsafe to eat. Something definitely went wrong in the kitchen. However, when this was brought to the owner's attention, he didn't apologize but instead tried to guilt me, the customer, with, "Aw, you didn't like my catfish?" The staff at the register showed him the catfish and I directly told him it was inedible and explained why. His response? "That's ok. You're not hurting my feelings." It wasn't personal and it's weird that he tried to make it about him. I doubt a single soul wants to eat rubbery catfish. A simple apology would have gone a lot further. read more

I ordered the two-meat combo plate featuring ribs and jalapeño sausage, which came with two sides, Grandma's collard greens and fried okra. Jalapeño Sausage: This was the highlight of the meal. Cooked to perfection with excellent flavor. Ribs: Disappointing. Although they were smoked, they lacked seasoning and were very bland. Grandma's Collard Greens: Underwhelming. They were undercooked and had an overpowering vinegar taste. Fried Okra: Just okay. Edible but nothing memorable. The meal I just had today with the turkey, brisket, fried okra, and potato salad was one of the best meals I've ever had. The owner came over and let us sample some sausage which was delicious. Honestly, this place reminds me of what heaven will be like. You walk in, and they celebrate if it's your first time in. Their brisket is soooo juicy and they have so many choices for sides. Their pork rib portion great for the price!! Negatives were: not enough cheese (ended up with lots of extra tortilla chips), not enough sour cream, and no bbq sauce. I did think to ask for pickled jalapeños which (was an extra .50). We found the outside quaint and inviting. Inside was simple, tables and chairs with an open plating and serving area. We were able to order fairly quickly and our plates were ready in minutes. My son ordered the 2 meat plate with brisket and mild sausage. Both were tender and seasoned. The brisket is a little salty but, tasty. Cole slaw was different in flavor but, I liked it. Mac and cheese was just ok for me but, my son loved it. I ordered the loaded nachos and was kind of disappointed. The picture on the website has pico, grated cheese and sour cream and looked delicious. Mine was just liquid cheese, chips and chopped brisket. Now the brisket was VERY good mind you. But, it looked better with all the "loaded" toppings. Loaded to me means loaded. Not just cheese and meat. The brisket was tender and smoky, the pulled pork was excellent, and the bologna was surprisingly one of my favorites. Sides were just as good -- creamy potato salad, fresh coleslaw, and flavorful collard greens. The jalapeño cornbread was also a great touch. You order at the counter when you walk in and they greet you right away. They even ring a bell for first-time customers, which adds a fun, welcoming vibe. Our first stop on our barbeque tour- Sullivan was super friendly. The manager gave us a piece of brisket with chimichurri on it- holy cow! I loved that they had smoked cabbage as a side, which is super unique. The corn muffins were decent but I would pass next time (they weren't warm either). I try not to review the same places twice but I have to for Sullivan Texas BBQ! Stopped in because I needed another Nacho fix and once again they were awesome! We also had a combo plate with Brisket, Corn, Mac and Cheese, and Collard Greens. Those Collard Greens are phenomenal, full of flavor and perfectly tender. Both entrees came with a delicious house made roll and cinnamon butter that we an amazing dessert. I did see a sweet lady handing our Cinnamon Rolls. She ran out just before our table, but she really just saved me from shoving that cinnamon roll in when I was already full. :). I will be back for sure and I hope I can get one next time.
