We sat down for dinner there and had a nice time. The soup, pad thia and curry were all great. Between two people we had plenty left over for dinner the next day. The restaurant was small but quite. The staff was very nice and helpful. It also seems like a perfect takeout place. We saw some people come in and their wait was very short. read more

So I wanted to wait until I had visited this place a few times before I left a review. The reason for that is because I've found that with many Thai restaurants they may excel in one dish (such as Pad Thai) but then struggle with others (such as curry...or vice versa). At this point in time I have eaten here 4 times and not by choice. I happen to have a good friend that enjoys this place and well I enjoy his company. As for the food, it's mediocre. Not good enough for me to ever want to eat here on my own volition, and not bad enough for me to make a big stink when my friend wants to eat there. I've tried their Pad Thai, multiple curry dishes, multiple fried rice dishes and rice plates. Today I had their "Mixed vegetables lunch entree" - which consists of: Napa, carrot, broccoli, bean sprouts, scallion and pepper on top of rice. There was some flavor to it but it was kinda bland - like all their other meals I've tried. I feel like I'm always asking them for chili sauce on the side to give their meals more oomph. I don't wanna give my meals more oomph. They should already be pre-oomph'd! The other issue I have is the ambiance. It's nothing special, is dim and sometimes even smells a bit strange. As for the service, they're usually pretty nice and friendly (if you get the young guy) but there's only ever one waiter during lunch hour. It takes forever to get your check and pay for your meal. If you're looking for Thai in Albany I prefer Sweet Basil. If you're in Troy try Choms. This place isn't terrible but could definitely be better. read more

I'm going to get to it. Me and my friends wanted to get something good to eat so we decided to go here. I had the Chicken and Shrimp Pad Thai which was amazing but next time I will ask for no tofu. My friend has Chicken Pineapple Curry which he said was amazing. Here's the deal you get great food here for little money my dinner was huge and I only paid $10 . If you don't like tofu as for no tofu cause I think tofu taste like wet chalk but I forgot to ask for none, and my meal was piled high with tofu. The place is very small can get really loud. Service a little slow. But over all worth the trip and the food was great. read more

This is my favorite spot in Albany. If you are even remotely into Thai food this spot is worth a visit. Everything is priced fairly. Especially the drinks which are at a very nice price range. The food is incredibly tasty. The duck is worth the extra money, very tender and delicious. If you really like spice, request the curry extra spicy. It's intense but well worth it. I'd recommend the musman curry and the green tea ice cream. Inner decor isn't anything to write home about and small, but the kitchen is excellent. read more

On the high end of one $, but it really depends on what you get. I always get Thai tea and wanted to get the bubble tea but they ran out of the bubbles! ;) they're called boba... Anyways I'm excited for the food, it's Friday night so they are pretty busy and it's been a while (our local Thai place is super quick) but I can wait for good food :) The food finally got to us after 45 minutes of waiting in a small restaurant that instantly froze every time someone came and went with their to-go order. The food was good, my local place has stronger flavors and larger Thai tea. So I wasn't blown away but I would still recommend this place, but it'd probably be a better experience on a slower night. read more

Sukhothai - Pretty tablecloths :) - Thai Near Me - Albany, New York

Great Thai place in a great spot of Albany. They've worked so well with the little space they have and even better, they have AMAZING food!

This is my favorite Thai place in the capital region. It's priced well, tastes well, and I like the small cozy place. It is always packed!! And always has people coming to pick up any day any time!! read more

Just 3 things I want to mention for this review, probably all that you would need to take in considerations, I hope. Let's keep it concise: First thing is that it might not have the best dining environment, it is located underground. But they have tables on the street if you would like to dine on a nice day out. Secondly, the price for the foods is very cheap. Probably one of the cheapest places for Thai food in the area. Last but not least, although the pricing of the foods is cheap, the quality of the food is quite decent. Overall, I would recommend people for a try, especially if you are looking for a place for takeouts. read more

Loving Thai cuisine, I am comfortable stating that this is the WORST Thai restaurant in the entire Capital Region. The prices are reasonable though. read more

This place was decent I ordered the duck noodle. The broth was good but most likely it's frozen duck. The mango sticky rice was good tho. read more

This was the first restaurant I ever ate at when I first came up to Albany to start grad school and look for a place to live for 3 years. When I found this place, I was already pretty down and depressed from seeing Albany for the first time (since then the city has grown on me). Anyways, their food is really good--but the spicy dishes could be made spicier. Service is always prompt and friendly, and the waitress was nice enough to give me some advice on where to live :) read more

It's not "perfect" but I've never had anything less than awesome here so I'm giving Sukhothai 5 stars. I usually order take-out and pick it up 15 min later - very fast! My favorites right now are the Musman Curry and Pad Thai w/ Duck (that one isn't on the menu, but they still make it for me - try it!). read more

We're not in northern Virginia but still on the east coast, so this gets five stars. This is exceptional Thai outside of an area with a significant asian population. The green curry is great, especially if you ask for it thai spicy. The basil chicken is also good, when asked for spicy. I like the samosa, but I love the tom yum chicken soup even move, and think it makes a sufficient meal. I have had good, spicy, hot food every time I have ordered out. I've also had fairly good service whenever I've eaten in the restaurant. I'm pleased. read more

Not the biggest fan of Thai food though I do enjoy it from time to time. That being said, I think this place is the best Thai food I've ever had. It's tasty but not overwhelming. It's got a homemade feel to it with huge portions and low prices (compared to NYC). Space is small, but staff is very friendly and the food came out very quickly. Will be returning. read more

Tried to order in one afternoon after reading great reviews and found that they do not deliver. So I placed my order of Pork Pad See Ew and Pineapple Curry Duck and went to pick it up. When I went to pick it up, turns out there was a misunderstanding and the waitress thought I ordered "Four" Pad See Ew, not "Pork" Pad See Ew. Okay, simple enough, but I hate it when restaurants try to blame the customer for their mistake. According to the PDF menu on their website, my order should have come out to be roughly $17 but when I got there, the lady told me it was $23. Why? Because they add $2 more to all orders on Sundays. What? Why wasn't I informed of this over the phone? And then another lady came out and tried to tell me that they had raised their prices. Okay, so again, why wasn't I informed? And she refused to show me a receipt. The Pad See Ew was dry (how do you dry out noodles??) but the duck was good. I've had better but it wasn't too bad considering I'm in Albany. But I'm so disappointed w/ the service that I will not return. read more

Poor attempt at authentic Thai food. I got the chicken pad see ew, which was a lot chewier and 'al dente' than it should have been. The sauce was blander than expected. Hey, I've been to Thailand, and the worst street food there is better than this stuff. I was surprised at how poor the quality of the food was considering how full of people it always is. I guess it just goes to show how Albany lacks good options.. The pricing was okay - although for that amount of money, I'd probably get a couple slices of cheese, Chinese take-out across the street, or spend a couple of extra bucks to try Kinnaree across the street. I would have been willing to give one more star had the service been any better. But frankly, it was just cavalier. read more

Best Thai in town! Pathai and yellow curry are highly recommended. Their Alevera drink and Thai iced tea are amazing also. Definitely my go to Thai food place in the capital region. read more

I really like this place. The pad thai was decent and not overpriced. However, it is a lot better if you actually eat it in the restaurant. I got takeout once, and it was just not very good. My friend got the pad se ewe, which is my favorite thai noodle dish. I was very happy to see that they use authentic flat noodles, as opposed to other restaurants that use something similar to chow fun. Again, it's one of those places that's close, convenient, and "good enough." I haven't explored others in the area, but I've eaten a lot of thai. This is better than the places I frequented when I was at Syracuse. Edit: either I messed up or Sukho changed. They do not use the correct pad se ewe noodle. The flavor is still good, but the texture is not the same. Dropping down a star; but will probably still frequent the place. Tasty and friendly enough. read more

I can't rate the food. as soon as we walked in it I could smell something. After we sat I could tell it was a combination of bathroom, cleaner, and other odors. It didn't smack in the face, but it was there. As food was coming out of the always visible kitchen (not appealing either), I said to my partner I can't do it. He said we could sit somewhere else, but I just couldn't get the idea or smell out of my mind and I know I wouldn't enjoy the food. I also didn't like the boxes of beer siting around. He said I should have told them, but I am a chicken shit, and I shouldn't have to be put in that situation, anyone coming in could smell that. We went down to the reliable inexpensive Indian restaurant down the street instead. read more

Top 3 reasons to go to Sukothai: 1. It's REALLY FAST. 2. Totally and completely casual. Wear whatever. Come with whoever. It's laid back. 3. I always get the Thai Suki from here. The portion is big, I always have to take it to go because I can't finish. The place is really small and it's in a basement but one of the best Thai places in Albany (esp when you're a college student craving for affordable but great food). read more

Our office has struggled to find cuisine that everyone enjoys, that delivers, and that delivers well. There's been plenty of late deliveries, crushed containers, soggy food, missing orders, etc... I don't know what everybody is raving about. The food was mediocre. Nothing memorable. I ordered the netted prawn which was OK! It was fried noodle wrapped around a simple salt & pepper shrimp. I love me some good Thai and this place delivers. It definitely feels a like a hidden gem when you walk in there. From it's location, tucked away in a basement next to Bomber's, to it's delic variety of rices, soups, curries, and awesome Thai coffee, you can't beat it. As previously mentioned, the Pad Thai is fanta-bulous! If you eat-in, the servers are super knoweldegeabe and the whole experience is very low key/mellow. If you eat out, well it's pretty much a heavenly experience. KEY to a killer take-out/veg-out night. Word up to their faboo veggie selection. read more

This is one of my favorite place to eat. My favorite dish here is the Green Curry Shrimp. I think the Service is friendly, the food is delicious!, and the prices are good. I've tried lots of Thai food in my day, including in Thailand. This place had 7.8/10 in terms of taste and quality. The price is great very affordable and good portions I had the Pineapple Curry, Seaweed salad, and pad thai. All were good, I especially enjoyed the curry. Pad thai was good as well, best I've had in the area. All in all, a great place for good thai food with the best prices and taste in Center Square read more

So I guess I only Yelp when I get inspired to write reviews. Sukhothai inspired me. Little step-down hole in the wall place on Lark St. in Albany, right next to Bomber's. Maybe seating for 15, plus a pick-up counter. I was with a vegan and there were plenty of options for her and I more than enjoyed my soup and rice plate. Plenty of veggie selection, hot soups, they serve beer and wine, quick service, fresh food, informal, not expensive, so solid. Want Thai, no frills? Go here. read more

Sukothai is almost always the first place on our list for date night. The food is always great, and the waitresses are friendly. The dining area has a very limited amount of seating though, so don't walk in here on a weekend night and expect not to be rubbing elbows with your neighbors. That being said, during the week you can usually get a table with no wait, and even when the restaurant is full, you never wait an absurd amount of time for your food. Kinda nuts when you realize how tiny their kitchen is. Relax, and talk to whoever you came in with, the food is always amazing when it shows up. I highly recommend the curries, especially pumpkin if they're serving it. read more

Friendly service, good food, and good prices. My favorite here is the Pad See Ew, but the Green Curry is really good too. They also have a bunch of interesting flavored shakes. I like the cantalope.
