We were looking for someplace to go to Dinner on a Sunday night in Albany and I've since been told that, most places are closed. However we stumbled upon Sukhothai and decided to try it out. It is a hole in the wall kinda place with just a few tables. Seems like they do a lot of take out from the amount of people I saw coming in and out to pick up. Every table was taken we were lucky to get a table and not have to wait. The dining area isn't anything special and is very small but it's clean. The staff were friendly and service was quick. The menu is sufficient and pricing is reasonable. I thought the food was fresh and decent. I wouldn't say it's the most flavorful Thai food I've ever had but I enjoyed it. I don't like a lot of spice or heat so I like Thai food that is milder, someone else who likes more spice and heat might not enjoy this or might have to ask them for more spice. All in all a good experience.

I am not sure if they have a new cook in the kitchen but Sukho Thai used to be one of my favorite restaurants in downtown Albany. It is highly unlikely that I will go back. I ordered the Massaman Curry with Duck. It is my go to meal in any Thai restaurant. This time, I was very disappointed. The curry was salty and there were only 3 pieces of duck, two of which had bones. In the past, the dish was enough that I would take home leftovers; not any more. But then again, with the quality of the meal I had, I probably would not have wanted leftovers a yw

We hadn't planned to have lunch at Sukhothai but seeing the 4-star rating, we thought we'd give it a try. We were initially the only patrons until three other tables arrived shortly after we were seated. Our server was extremely helpful and courteous as he answered our questions and offered suggestions. We chose homemade dumplings as our appetizer and Laht Nah and Pad Thai as our entrees. The dumplings did seem to be 'homemade' rather than a staple product from a food purveyor. They were flavorful and the dumpling was cooked well. We enjoyed both sauces which came with them. The Pad Thai had a different flavor or spice than we're used to which was interesting and good - a dish we would order again. Our server stated the Laht Nah was 'soupy' and it was which made it somewhat difficult to eat in the shallow serving bowl. It might be better if they served it in a soup bowl. The restaurant looked to be clean and was comfortable enough. We enjoyed our visit and look forward to going again sometime soon.

The food here is not meant for Asian people. The taste is for the American only. Look at that pad see ew. The pictures said it all. Tasteless and bland. This id sad because this is an Asian restaurant and they're not going to pass to an Asian customers. They should taste their food first. I think the chef is not Asian. That's why? I see latinos cooking in the kitchen. But dont order any pasta. The curry is ok. The service is 3/5

Maybe it's me. I have to say, though, that my quest for a local Thai place that consistently knocks my socks off remains unfulfilled. I was really wanting some Thai soup and ended up here when I found out that my first choice was closed. Split the chicken satay with a friend and found it very dry and tough. My soup was perfectly edible, but nothing about it struck me as super fresh or flavorful -- they're probably not grinding spices back in the kitchen. Service was slow and scattered: I got the sense that they didn't have enough staff to keep up with both takeout and dine-in orders. The Thai tea with lemon was tasty, and portions were very generous. Not a terrible meal, but not my favorite option around either.

This place seems to improve exponentially! See pictures, finally. Pad Thai! Best in Albany. Love the thicker noodles, and the really fresh helping of bean sprouts, not to mention the generous serving size. Standard comes with shrimp, chicken, and tofu. I sometimes get it with just the chicken and tofu. The tofu is seasoned just right, and yummy. It's so yummy wife couldn't help stealing some from my plate. We tried for first time the Pla Goong Salad (Spicy Thai Shrimp Salad). Asked for the spicy dressing on the side, and they we more than accommodating. Wow! Fantastic, even with the sauce on the side. The shrimps were fresh, plump, and STILL full of spice. Recommend with the dressing on the side. It's a nice sweet and salty kind of dressing, with a spicy kick, which could be too salty or fishy for some, but perfect for dipping the shrimp and salad. Wife ordered her standard green curry, with egg plant, veggies, and Salmon... Thai Spicy of course. Curry doesn't look green in the picture, because of the additional spices. She also asked that they not put any green beans. Surprisingly, they didn't. So, I'm asking for no carrots in my curry, next time! As a good wine matures and becomes a great wine, so goes Sukhothai through the years on Lark Street. Great to see a mainstay, but even better to see the improvement. NOTE: Our dishes took a little longer, because of requested changes, but they came out hot, fresh, and delectable.

Hole in the wall with a few tables & lots of takeout. I'd be willing to try half the menu. I ordered seafood noodle soup for a bit over $10, expecting a small soup, hung about of seafood wonderful prepared. My spouse ordered green curry tofu with mixed veggies. Big portion there as well.

Great Pad Thai

My friend and I walked here to get some Thai food after visiting the state capitol. Service was good. I had pad Thai with chicken and shrimp which was on the point. I really enjoyed the sauce. My friend had curry and she said it was good too. We had mango sticky rice for dessert. Mango was kind of raw so not very sweet. The sticky rice with condensed milk was yummy. Good place for quick lunch but nothing very outstanding.

Hot sake heck yea

This place is fire. The subterranean location on Lark Street is small but cozy as heck. When I came here last, it was freezing and windy and I was craving some real stick-to-your-bones, hot food. So we hiked over to Sukhothai and got us some joy. We came pretty early in the evening and it was pretty quiet. There was only one other couple in the restaurant but they were very busy with takeout orders. We sat at a table and the waitress immediately took our order for some hot sake. After perusing the menu a bit we decided to share a couple of items. Bae and I ordered some kind of bbq pork and Thai red curry because we basic. The BBQ pork was ok but the curry was some of the best I've ever had. My friend ordered duck noodle soup and that was really good too. The service was quick and our food came out in not time. We split the bill 3 ways and each payed less than $20 AND we all had leftovers. For value, service and quality, this place definitely crushes it.

The aesthetic inside is the perfect vibe, I love the dark greens and florals. The lighting was perfect for photos too, so instagram-able. The bar was gorgeous and so were the drinks, and they were incredible too. I ordered the lychee martini but subbed the vodka for gin. I am not a sweet drink girlie but I love a lychee martini, and this was the best I ever had. I also ordered the Oliang Martini which was just like an espresso martini but a little more bold, delicious. The coconut mojito was also gorgeous and my sister ordered two. Great spot for cocktails. We wanted to try so many things, and we did, with plenty of left overs. I had never really been to a Thai restaurant but I knew enough to know I wanted to try Tom Kha. I love soup of all kinds and this was no exception, I worry I will crave this all the time. The creamy, savory and slightly sour taste was addicting. For other apps we tried the golden dumplings which were perfectly moist and flavorful inside, with the crispy wonton crust you love. We also tried the shrimp donuts, these were good but a little on the spongy side, so the texture wasn't really my thing. We also ordered the chive cakes, which were like cube shaped scallion pancakes. I honestly was full at this point, but everything was so delicious and I love left overs. For entrees, I had to order the pad Thai because I never had it. I got it with beef and it was such a delicious dish. The noodles were the perfect texture and it was flavor packed. We ordered mild in all dishes, and they still had a kick, which I loved. We also had crab fried rice, perfectly fluffy and light. Crispy duck curry, insane dish that I would love to order at a future visit, and the pad see u noodles. I honestly have nothing bad to say. This is a new hot spot. Vibe is immaculate. Cocktails are noteworthy. The food matches the experience. Price is on par with similar caliber restaurants locally, I wouldn't consider it a cheap night out. Come here to splurge a little on a great experience.

Tamarind Thai in Latham is one of my favorite Thai restaurants!…read more There are several dishes that are already "accidentally vegan" meaning it is a plant-based meal that doesn't include any animal products like eggs, butter, dairy milk, seasoning or sauces made from seafood or mollusks. Their curry dishes are all accidentally vegan, and you can keep them vegan when you add a protein by choosing either steamed or fried tofu. The staff is so polite and extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the dishes and can help you customize your meals if you are vegan, vegetarian, gluten intolerant, or have any other food sensitivities. On this visit they were decorated for the holidays. Beautiful red, silver, and white balls hung from the ceiling, string lights, pine garland, and a flocked Christmas tree in the front window all made the restaurant cozy and inviting. I had the curry fried rice with spring rolls and unsweetened iced tea and my husband had the hot vegetables entree with white rice and a side of sticky rice.

Many people get take out from here which I will admit, we have done twice but we really enjoy dining in at the restaurant because it's fun. The staff is really nice and extremely helpful. When we say vegan they know what we mean which is difficult sometimes because a lot of people have misconceptions about what that entails. You have to think about what ingredients the noodles were made with, do they contain egg or not. What sauces are traditionally used, is it a fish sauce? Is something cooked with butter? So just saying no meat, eggs, or dairy doesn't always make people think about everything but this restaurant gets it. Also people ask well what about gluten? It has nothing to do with being vegan it is related to having celiac disease. Bottom line, if you have food allergies or sensitivities, they know what is in their food and they will tell you or offer suggestions to help you out. The spring rolls, the gyoza, the crazy noodle (drunken noodle), curry rice, fresh rolls, all of it has been good everytime we go. This review is long overdue, Tamarind is just so good if you need vegan or vegetarian options they have a lot of plant-based menu items. The unsweetened iced tea, that's my jam! Love it!

Not only does it have excellent Thai food, it also has one page of their menu offering Korean choices. There are separate lunch and dinner menus. Both menus are easy to navigate and clearly written. Their menus state designated spicy dishes can be modified on a scale of 1 to 5. There are numerous lunch specials offered. They come with miso soup or green salad. The waitress (owner?) was friendly, helpful, and attentive. We started with Spring Rolls and tea. Tea bags were placed in large mugs. I would have preferred a pot of brewed tea and small handleless cups offered at a few other places. We ordered lunch specials: Drunken Noodles with Tofu and Pang Kamee with Chicken. The soup broth was flavorful but could have had more tofu pieces. The Spring Rolls were average. My Pang Kamee was seasoned perfectly. Very tasty, it was seasoned nicely with spices, but not hot. I liked the perfectly cooked wide noodles and thinly sliced carrots. The chicken was moist and tender. The Drunken Noodles was also enjoyed by my daughter. What was exceptional about it was the Tofu! There were large pieces of tofu that were sautéed or grilled slightly. Delicious! Best tofu she has eaten in a long time. Our portions were generous, and both meals were finished because they were tasty. The restaurant has nine uncrowded tables and does a lot of takeout.
