Great quality food at very reasonable prices. They offer a lunch special deal where you can select an entree and you get a free soda or pint of soup Monday - Friday 11-3 PM.. Lunch special is only $7 including tax. My favorite Chinese restaurant in the area by far.

Well, it's taken nine years for us to return to Pho Queen. Actually, it wasn't even our intended…read moredestination as we arrived on Jay Street in Schenectady a little after 6 pm on a Friday. We had been wanting to try Simone's Kitchen. But their line for service was sooo long and then the likelihood of finding an available table to eat at looked very discouraging. So, my wife suggested we walk two blocks north to Pho Queen. This was a new location since my last review, but it had the same warmth and comfortable high-back chairs from the former location. Overall, the space is not much different in size from the former; it still only seats about 18-20 customers. We were warmly greeted by the sister of the owner/chef who said she was helping her sister out tonight and offered us seating at a table for two in the front window. The menu still lists a variety of both Thai and Vietnamese style dishes, and I think they still do not offer alcoholic beverages. We didn't inquire about beverages as we were satisfied with the tap water provided. I did see a blackboard that listed a variety of bubble teas. One of the specials that we saw listed on the sidewalk sign from our window seating was Curry Puffs ($10). They were something we'd never had before so, of course we had to try them. The dumpling dough was unlike a wonton wrapper, maybe more like an empanada or pierogi wrapper, and the filling was curry with some vegetables like peas and carrots. There were four of them and they were provided with a side sauce similar to a nuoc mam. They were flavorful and quite enjoyable. My wife ordered the Tofu Phad Khuen Chai ($20). The menu description is sautéed fried tofu with bean sprouts, khuen-chai (Chinese celery) caramelized with sugar, fish sauce, and soy sauce. The dish provided also included carrots and green peppers. My wife enjoyed it but also said it could have been more flavorful. My entrée was a total surprise. I had been thinking about ordering the seafood dish, Phad Cha Talay. But decided instead to order the duck dish, Kaeng Phed Ped Yang. When my meal was served by the Chef it was Phad Cha Talay ($26). I had not mentioned to anyone my original thought. We had a good laugh with the Chef and her sister and I insisted on staying with my "first thought." The Phad Cha Talay was delicious with shrimp, scallops, mussels, squid, broccoli, carrots, green peppers, kaffir lime leaves, rice, and a very flavorful sauce. Each seafood was perfectly cooked to perfection, and the white rice provided an excellent opportunity to soak up all that yummy sauce. Looks like we'll have to plan another visit for me to try that duck dish. Hopefully, when a clairvoyant isn't working.

The rice noodles were so overcooked I could barely eat it. The shrimp was very good though. I wish they had a tofu pho option like most places I go to, but then again, this isn't actually a pho restaurant like I thought it was. Then, I got mango sticky rice, and they gave me about 2 tablespoons of rice. I have never experienced that at a Thai restaurant. Overall, very strange and expensive night for not much payoff. The server was very friendly. I hope it was a fluke, but it was my first time there so I don't think I will be coming back

Their curry dishes are all accidentally vegan, and you can keep them vegan when you add a protein by choosing either steamed or fried tofu. The staff is so polite and extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the dishes and can help you customize your meals if you are vegan, vegetarian, gluten intolerant, or have any other food sensitivities. On this visit they were decorated for the holidays. Beautiful red, silver, and white balls hung from the ceiling, string lights, pine garland, and a flocked Christmas tree in the front window all made the restaurant cozy and inviting. I had the curry fried rice with spring rolls and unsweetened iced tea and my husband had the hot vegetables entree with white rice and a side of sticky rice.

Many people get take out from here which I will admit, we have done twice but we really enjoy dining in at the restaurant because it's fun. The staff is really nice and extremely helpful. When we say vegan they know what we mean which is difficult sometimes because a lot of people have misconceptions about what that entails. You have to think about what ingredients the noodles were made with, do they contain egg or not. What sauces are traditionally used, is it a fish sauce? Is something cooked with butter? So just saying no meat, eggs, or dairy doesn't always make people think about everything but this restaurant gets it. Also people ask well what about gluten? It has nothing to do with being vegan it is related to having celiac disease. Bottom line, if you have food allergies or sensitivities, they know what is in their food and they will tell you or offer suggestions to help you out. The spring rolls, the gyoza, the crazy noodle (drunken noodle), curry rice, fresh rolls, all of it has been good everytime we go. This review is long overdue, Tamarind is just so good if you need vegan or vegetarian options they have a lot of plant-based menu items. The unsweetened iced tea, that's my jam! Love it!

We were told when we went to pick up, that the phone line is on the same line as the credit card machine, which is why the calls kept going right to voicemail. I love a good Thai curry, and went for the Red Curry with Tofu ("Thai curry prepared with green beans, zucchini, red & green peppers, peas and basil in red curry coconut milk sauce. Spicy.") We ordered for dinner, and my meal was $14 and came with a scoop of rice. I was a bit unimpressed with the sauce, which seemed a little watery, and I would definitely describe it as watered down. I think it would have been much more flavorful if it was thicker or more concentrated. The menu also says this dish is spicy, but I only detected a little bit of heat to it. Normally I find myself needing rice to go with curry, but this was not the case. There was some fried eggplant in the curry, which was fantastic, but the green beans seemed undercooked and overall, I was underwhelmed. (I get some very flavorful and delicious Thai Red Curry with tofu for almost half the price at the Chinese place up the road, so I was disappointed with both the food and the portion). My husband ordered the Pad See Ew, a Thai standard that he has enjoyed many times over the years at different establishments. We both tried this and agreed that like my dish, this was also a bit bland. The menu has a lot of choices on it, and I hope that the issues we had were simply an issue of this restaurant getting their bearings, but I don't see us ordering in the near future.

Not only does it have excellent Thai food, it also has one page of their menu offering Korean choices. There are separate lunch and dinner menus. Both menus are easy to navigate and clearly written. Their menus state designated spicy dishes can be modified on a scale of 1 to 5. There are numerous lunch specials offered. They come with miso soup or green salad. The waitress (owner?) was friendly, helpful, and attentive. We started with Spring Rolls and tea. Tea bags were placed in large mugs. I would have preferred a pot of brewed tea and small handleless cups offered at a few other places. We ordered lunch specials: Drunken Noodles with Tofu and Pang Kamee with Chicken. The soup broth was flavorful but could have had more tofu pieces. The Spring Rolls were average. My Pang Kamee was seasoned perfectly. Very tasty, it was seasoned nicely with spices, but not hot. I liked the perfectly cooked wide noodles and thinly sliced carrots. The chicken was moist and tender. The Drunken Noodles was also enjoyed by my daughter. What was exceptional about it was the Tofu! There were large pieces of tofu that were sautéed or grilled slightly. Delicious! Best tofu she has eaten in a long time. Our portions were generous, and both meals were finished because they were tasty. The restaurant has nine uncrowded tables and does a lot of takeout. It took a few minutes- not long- for our food to arrive. It is made to order and not just sitting around. The burritos arrived hot and the filling was plentiful. Several times the owner came over to ask if everything was ok and to see if we had any additional requirements. She was extremely friendly. Although I was totally full after downing my hefty burrito I ordered churros for dessert. They arrived with whipped cream and a chocolate drizzle. We will definitely be returning to this restaurant.
