Take out dinner for five adults and three children was ordered by my daughter. The bad-- I will start with the bad since it was my order. I was so disappointed in the Sesame Chicken, my go to order. I was hungry, but after trying several pieces, I had to toss it out. No leftovers to eat tomorrow. The "chicken" pieces consisted of over fried hard to chew skin around a small piece of thigh meat. Mostly gnarly chicken skin. The only thing good was the flavor of the sticky sauce with sesame seeds. I know where to get delicious Sesame Chicken with White Meat. China King and Mr. Wasabi in Schenectady are two of those places. The good-- My husband's Chicken with Broccoli in a white sauce was very good. My daughter enjoyed the same dish with a darker soy based sauce. The children liked the Edamame, Dumplings, and noodles. The mediocre-- The order of Chicken Fried Rice was not greasy but rather bland. It needed more seasoning. The Chicken Mai Fun lacked flavor and was bland. Pluses: Portions are generous. If you want classic old school Chinese American food this is it. They have all the classics on the menu. Our last order was General Tso's Chicken and Shrimp with Mixed Vegetables platters. The platters included pork fried rice, an egg roll and a generous portion of the main entree. The egg rolls were a little burnt but ok otherwise, nothing special. The shrimp and vegetables were good and tasted fresh. General Tso's was enjoyed by my son. Our biggest disappointment was an order of Crab Rangoon. Very little filling and very greasy and tasting of oil. The food was hot when it arrived. 31/2 stars rounded up to 4. read more

This place gets slower and more expensive every time i order. Last order the broccoli in my general tsos was rancid and gross. The eggroll's were sopping with grease and my order took over an hour. Let's call it what it is ... as the other reviews might be a bit misleading because when I drove up I was pretty surprised... It's a hole in the wall type of Chinese restaurant. The quality of the food is good though. They posted their health inspection which was impressive with a passing result .The egg drop soup is excellent and the shrimp and lobster sauce was very good as well. The Kung Po chicken did not taste like Kung Fo chicken LOL...very odd sauce however the vegetables were very fresh. It is not a gourmet Chinese place. This is my go-to spot for takeout Chinese in the capital region: no-frills, classic American Chinese food that's always consistently good. The restaurant area itself on the inside is small and exactly what you'd expect from a takeout Chinese spot, you're not there for table service, just to order your grub and bring it home. All of the usual suspects are on the menu - various different noodle, rice, veggie, combo dishes and so on. No surprises here. The hot and sour soup is probably some of the best I've had from any Chinese place, it's excellent. The menu is pretty big and lately I've been trying out some new things instead of the usual General Tso's or lo mein I normally get (which are both really good here!). Previously, I was a patron of another Chinese fast food in Latham. It's not to say they aren't any good, it just seems that there's a new chef in town and he's working at J's. Food seems more authentic as I am told by those in the know. Dishes that I've tried are always very flavorful without being overly sauced or sauce overly thickened. Of course, there is much to choose from on any take-out menu. After ordering there is a bit of a wait since there are (obviously) a lot of orders coming in. Staff are masked up, there are plastic partitions keeping them in and us out. Parking is always tight. That being said, I do enjoy their food. read more

My husband and I have been looking for a good Chinese restaurant in the area for some time. We ordered J's Kitchen via Grubhub and were very delighted with our food. I had the general tsos which was very tasty (I really enjoyed picking my spice level) and the accompanied fried rice was also very good. My husband really enjoyed his sesame chicken. I am a bit surprised there are not more recent positive reviews of J's. We have had their food a few times over the years and it has always been good and reasonably priced. J's was not our go-to place for Chinese or Sushi but was a secondary option until recently. The COVID situation caused some closures and forced us to look for alternative options for delivery/take-out and J's turned out to be a a good option. We have ordered Chinese/Sushi delivery and take-out from J's several times recently and have been consistently happy with the quality, quantity, accuracy, timeliness, and value received. They have a good COVID pickup process - I have called when I arrived for pick-up and they bring my order out to my car wearing a mask. Food is ok. They use a lot of mushrooms and heavy seasoning in the filling for dumplings, egg rolls, and fried rice. They also definitely use gelatin in their sauces to thicken it, which leaves leftovers with a really gross jelly texture all over them, and it doesn't always liquify again when heated. Also would be nice to have noted in the menu. In addition to being kind of gross texturally, that sauce is used on the vegetable and tofu options and is not vegetarian/vegan friendly. read more

I ordered from there for the first time.First of all when you walk in all you smell is old oil.The place itself needs a good cleaning.Windows slimy with grease.I ordered wonton soup.It was the most disgusting thing I've ever seen.They use gelatin I guess and it doesn't break down when heated.It was so thick I has to add tons of water which took away from any chicken flavor. I tried reheating it but again it didn't break down.I also got chunks of gross yellow chunks of gelatin despite being heated.The sauce for the egg Foo young had a yellowish color instead of a brown gravy color.Ut also tasted like nothing with a little bit of flour flavor.The dumplings were good but very meaty.The Egg Foo Young was pretty good but not much flavor.The plain white rice was ok but notvenough of it.They also tried to tack on 1.50 fee bec I ordered online.I asked for a credit and got it. read more

Delicious flavors, not too saucy, crispy fried items and the place is always busy so there is definitely no chance of food that has been sitting around. The Chinese food here was pretty good. I was looking for a Chinese takeout place in Latham to grab some lunch and also offers lunch specials (on Sundays). I already knew that the newer Chinese takeout place down the street and the place in Latham Farms only offers lunch specials on Mon-Sat only. So I decided to check out Amazing Wok (next door to the 76 Diner), which does offer lunch specials everyday until 3PM. This is a standard Chinese takeout place with counter/open kitchen and table seating in front of the counter. This place serves up the usual Chinese dishes including Hunan, Szechuan, and Cantonese cuisine, no MSG. 41 luncheon specials ($4.95-$5.95) and 23 special combination plates ($6.85-$7.85) are offered here. A weight watchers menu with over 40 items is also offered, served with steamed rice and ginger garlic sauce on the side. I ordered the L8 ($4.95 plus tax): Pork Lo Mein with Pork Fried Rice and choice of soup (I chose hot & sour). The food was ready in 10 minutes. The generous portion of food was very good and simple. The lomein had tender pork strips and vegetables (including snow peas). The fried rice (yellow color) had tender pork cubes, peas, carrots, and onions. The hot & sour soup was pretty decent tasting and light with medium spiciness with red pepper flakes, tofu, mushrooms, & bamboo shoots. There was enough food for two meals. Usually if I want take out I'll go to the place closer to where I live but lately they've been off so I wanted to try somewhere else. I work in Latham and my BF suggested J's cause it was his go to when he used to live in the area. Honestly my expectations were low but everything we ordered (chicken lo mein combo and sesame chicken combo and an order of steamed dumplings) was fresh and very yummy. I was also surprised they had some sushi options with decent prices. The lady who took my order over the phone was polite and efficient and she knew as soon as I came in that it was my order somehow lol. She asked if I need utensils or sauces or a receipt and I love that she was covering all the bases, that's solid customer service right there. I'll definitely be back again. The restaurant space may not look like much but I'm more concerned with the quality of the food and it did not disappoint! read more

Simply put, J's Kitchen is better quality food than your typical "Wok" or "Dragon" Chinese take out/delivery but still just as affordable. In terms of appearance and service they would blend in with their contemporaries and don't seem particularly different. Some of my favorite dishes from them so far are their Chicken Szechuan and General Tso's Chicken. Their fried rice is also a cut above. More moist and flavorful than the typical after thought it tends to be with other Chinese takeout. If you are looking for typical Chinese food at typical prices that is atypical in its quality, than give Jay's a try. read more

In the mood for Chinese over the weekend, but it was late and we were hungry so we decided on take out instead of sitting down. We absolutely love Ala Shanghai, but some of our favorite dishes there don't travel all that well. Have passed by J's Kitchen many, many times without stopping. Gave it a try and are glad we did. Very solid American-style Chinese take out place. Nothing fancy, but everyone enjoyed their meal. It was great to order on-line. Our pretty large order was exactly correct. We ordered Amazing Wok at work last week, venturing away from our usual Chinese spot, and that turned out to be a mistake. No one was particularly pleased with the food quality and after most of us had finished eating, a coworker found a bug in her food. Needless to say, none of us were thrilled. When a coworker called to let the Amazing Wok know what had happened, there was absolutely no reaction. This leads me to believe this may happen often enough to create complacence among staff. Yesterday we ordered food a boneless spare rib combination platter and the rice was full of HAIR. DISGUSTING!!! I tried to call today for a remedy and they are not open on Monday's any more.
