Quick dinner before our 1st Italian Opera and it rains. We were the only ones not to move inside the restaurant (although they offered). With our umbrellas up to keep our food dry, we enjoyed a lovely dinner on the streets in Rome with cars driving by right next to us. Some serious red flags being the multiple languages on the menu and the fact that it was open all day instead of closing between lunch and dinner. But we were SO HUNGRY and I needed something right away. It was perfectly edible and reasonably priced. I enjoyed the octopus salad, but it was over cooked (shock). This was a clean and decent place if you're in a pinch. Be warned- the restroom is downstairs past a pizza oven that is very hot so make sure to be careful on your way past it. read more

A little bit touristy restaurant near the Spanish Steps. No matter though, their freshly made pasta is excellent! We ordered the carbonara with fresh pasta, and the bolognese with normal pasta. Such a big difference the fresh pasta makes. There was a woman making pasta in the window which I initially thought was just a come on, but she was actually loading onto plates and sending it to the kitchen! Carbonara was creamy, a little eggy, fresh pasta had superb flavor and texture, and the bacon was in good sized chunks. A very good version of the dish. The bolognese was a little less good all around. Not as rich a flavor of sauce and the pasta was a let down in comparison with the fresh stuff. This place is deceiving. They have a woman in the window making pasta, luring you in, making you think you're getting some super fresh food. Not in my opinion. Our Margherita pizza was nothing special. Wine was just ok. Atmosphere was pathetic. Similar to an American pizza place that invests nothing in its interior because all their money is made delivering pizzas. There's a random fish tank and open display of fish in a refrigerator. Not to mention the cheap (and corny) paper table cloth. Good lord, this is Italy. Get some real textile. Food is meh and service is horrible. Only redeeming quality about this restaurant: central location Food: carbonara is fine, not out of the world but edible. Our tour guide recommended this place for its seafood so we ordered two seafood dishes, both are a disaster. Seafood pizza - good pizza and sauce, seafood is not fresh at all and you can taste it. We also ordered seafood salad that we had to return. The salad had mussels, shrimp, and calamari, and none of those were fresh. I told the server to please return this or at least ask the chef if they had fresher ones. The server responded along the lines of "we serve this dish everyday to lots of people, why are you the only one complaining". We had to return this after what he said. Service: horrendous. The server reluctantly returned our dish and brought the bill to us. He then told us the bill did not include tip and asked how much we'd like to tip him in a very aggressive tone. He then suggested that I tip "3 euro" according to the menu so I said fine I'll tip three euro (although I was never asked to tip in Europe as it's not customary). The server was visibly not happy. He brought back the bill and THERW our card onto the table. I was appalled. He then told me very loudly he did not charge the tip as I seemed unhappy but he doesn't understand why, in a raised voice and other tables started looking over. He doesn't understand why we were unhappy? As we were walking out, he was still going on about why I was unhappy and didn't tip him. So I told him that by his way of acting, he should know why I didn't feel happy about his service. He literally chased us across the street to continue harassing us about why we did not tip him. He didn't stop until his colleague came out to check on the situation. Extremely unhinged service with disappointing food. We visited this on our way back from spanish steps in Roma. We were starving so did not pay much attention to decor and other stuff...kids ordered Ravioli and Pizza margarita, my husband ordered Gnocchi and I ordered sea food risotto.. everything was great , specially my risotto was out of this world. Then we tried lemon cheese cake and Papas with rum and it was yummy ... loved it and will be back on our trip back to Roma. We came to this place on a whim because the menu looked awesome and the lady outside was very friendly by showing us how they made their own pasta. Anyways, it's pretty rare that we go out to eat without reading reviews first but that's exactly what we did today. This restaurant was intimate yet bright and colourful. There's wine displayed all over, sparkling wine glasses on every table, a lobster tank, and a tv as well. The service was good. The lady in front of the restaurant was very outgoing, enthusiastic, and energetic. As mentioned, she showed us the area where they made their own fresh pasta as well as the table in the front with fresh fish. After we agreed to dine here she also gave us each a complimentary glass of champagne which is always a plus in my books. To eat I got the pasta and salmon which was good but not great. My niece got the linguine with shrimp and zucchini which she also thought was good but not great. She also said her shrimp was overcooked as it had a rubbery texture to it. We both agreed that the pasta didn't taste homemade whatsoever and tasted more like it came straight from a box. Moreover, there was wifi available but it wasn't working at the moment. (The wine name is CERVARO dell Sala 2016) It was our last meal in Rome when traveliing in Italy. We were tired and we just walked by any resturant. Sugo D'Oro was there. We just ordered basic 2 kinds of pasta and house wine. The server brought one bottle and I was worried if it is really house wine or not. (Usually they are in the transparent bottle) So I asked the server if that was really house wine or not. He answered yes. We should have asked him the price. But we didn't because I understand the house wine is usally inexpensive. As soon as we checked the bill, the wine was 90 Euro and there were even any mark for "house wine" in the wine list! (Total 114 Euro= 90+24(2PASTA)) I asked the server like "usually isn't house wine inexpense one?" He replied like "we are high level of restaurant so our house wine is this and you should have checked cuz you have the wine list on the table. that's your fault." We've never expected house wine would be 90 Euro. I really really recommend to ask the price for the house wine if you want to try it. The pasta was also not good. High priced as well! My family and I went to this place to eat for a quick bite and as pleasing as this place looks we were never served only our appetizer, sodas, a beer and two glasses of wine that's all. Really terrible food. Lasagna was just sauce with a few overcooked noodles. The bolognese didn't have the strong tomato flavor you get used to in Rome (tasted like Prego, the canned stuff), and the noodles were overcooked. This is quite an odd tourist restaurant. In the front window a woman "chef" will be rolling the same dry pasta dough so that passersby believe the pasta is made minutes before they eat. The food was incredibly bland and overpriced, meaning their main source of income is not locals with a good palate but unsuspecting tourists who need to sit down and eat. We didn't receive our full order, and when we requested that we just get the check so we can leave after we had waited about an hour and a half the staff acted like they hadn't seen us before. Our bill was 90€ for 2 kids meals, their drinks and 2 Chardonnays. This was a terrible experience and the staff was not well trained at all. I do not recommend this place if you're a tourist. Vacationed in Rome for a week. After visiting the Spanish Steps, decided to try a restaurant nearby. This host saw me standing outside, looking at tje menu and suggested I come in for lunch. My new friend Dominick stepped into the street and convinced us to step into the restaurant and try their food. This is my first time to Italy so I have nothing compared to but I can't compare it to American food and some of the best restaurants in the United States and this is the best food I have ever eaten. They made a special seafood homemade pasta plate for 8 and it was heavenly. The owner Remo even brought over food that he and his friend were eating at a separate table and allowed us to try their special chicken and pork plate. The pizza was made with a special spicy Italian salami that I've never had before. The entire staff greeted us like we were their own family. It seems like all the people that were in there were local family people having dinner. We specifically asked questions about your steak florentine and told you that we wanted a small portion - so you throw a 40 euro cooked T-bone in front of us and then offer us a side of fries? You purposely took advantage of the fact that we were unaware of portion sizes here in Rome. And then we get stuck with a 75 euro bill in an average restaurant?!
