You've heard it all before. What can I say except everything you've heard about Sugar Moon is true! This is easily now my favorite bakery in the city. Shout out to everyone that works there because they are super nice and helpful. Let's get the logistics out the way: yes if you show up when they open at 9, there will be a line, but it moves quickly! I'm usually out with my order by 9:25! I have a huge sweet tooth and let me tell you the savory pastries are my favorite. I will not visit without getting at least one miso mushroom pastry. I absolutely hate eggs and the jalapeño popper pastry is so good, I barely noticed the egg in it until I'd eaten half of it This place is the TRUTH. Every pastry is flaky, every bun is fluffy and the flavor combinations are so unique. Let me stop typing so I can go stand in line!
um absolutely yes this is what they mean when they say support small businesses!! I stumbled across this bakery on my way to the suburbs and it's sooooooo good! I see why they're known for their banana pudding croissant. There were so many things I wanted to try, the people working were so nice and despite being small inside, it gave a very intimate cafe feeling. Will 100% be back to try more things. Come early to get first dibs on everything before it sells out.
Holy freakin best bakery in the nation! Sugar Moon is a local fave in Logan Square--and for all the reasons possible. They make scrumptious cookies, pastries, danishes, chai cinnamon rolls, the whole shebang. Our eyes were nonstop drooling over all of the fresh goodies. I had such a hard time choosing, but knew I had to get the corn flake espresso cookie (SO FRICKIN AMAZING) the textures were elite, and the potato focaccia. The southwest hash brioche was friggin incredible. They were very generous with the sweet potato, WHOLE EGG, and veg. Like seriously, with the cost of groceries skyrocketing, I can't believe I got a whole bit of egg white and yolk. You must eat your goodies warm, the initial crunch had me in a chokehold. They also had a vegan focaccia which my friends appreciated. There's street parking and expect lines. Inside isn't super spacious, but the line does move. Bring sunnies and a book if you don't like to stand around. We got here before they opened on a Saturday morning and only had to wait like 15mins. They also sell cute lil Sugar Moon merch like fun tshirts and cards. Would 100% come back to get morning pastries from them. Super queer friendly as well. MUST visit.
I've been to a variety of bakeries but Sugar Moon is on my top three list. From the cookies to the focaccia, everything was fresh and absolutely delicious. The only thing I hate is that I'm not from Chicago and I can't come here regularly. This is a must visit spot.
Sugar Moon is only open weekends, and they had a line out the door when I went. The line moved fast and the staff were super helpful and friendly despite the crowd. I really enjoyed the chai roll and cloud cookie, but the southwest brioche was what stood out to me. It was packed with flavor and really well-made! They didn't have as many savory items out when I came (no focaccia that day and only 1 savory brioche and 1 savory galette) or I would have loved to try more - I feel like that's what shone for me! Definitely would return for more delicious baked goods, and surprisingly despites the tiny amount of seating I was able to eat in the store because most everyone gets their order to go. This spot is clearly welll-loved for a reason!
The best bakery in Chicago hands down. I feel like a lot of people don't know about this place but it is so busy even with the group that does! Definitely deserves all the hype it gets. This is the place I miss most from when I lived in Chicago. The staff is super friendly and the pastries and so unique. Their pastries rotate a lot but if you like banana you must get the banana pudding croissant it's incredible! Definitely get there early- even before open there is a line (worth it!) and they are only open until they sell out.
What a fun treat -- As an avid sweet treat tasted this place was so fun! Walked in on a Thursday morning and they had most items in stock and the goodies were so yummy. I appreciate they had a large savory section. My favorite was the bacon brioche and savory scone. I loved it all-- I went back and got one of each cookie to take home to Denver. Will be enjoyed for a solo Valentine's Day! Super small bakery -- 4 bar stools and minimal standing room. So i can imagine it gets incredibly busy on the weekends The ladies helping were so sweet -- loved it all!!
This is a top tier Chicago bakery!!! We got lucky getting in with no line (we did go pretty early to opening on a negative wind chill day though), but I would come back here and wait through the line any day for their treats and kind staff I would definitely the Jalapeño Popper and the Potato Focaccia again, but probably would pass on the Tiramisu Cloud Cookie and the Tahini Chocolate Chip Cookie. The inside is small but quaint, definitely more of a takeout spot but there are a few bar like seats near the windows!
This place is amazing. I got a lot of things and they were all good. Their savory items are must have. I tried the brioches and they were all so fresh with a little crisp on the outside. The braised pork one was my favorite. They also had a large selection of gourmet cookies, I loved the espresso chocolate one. Service was great, staff were very nice and friendly. They greeted me and helped me pick out my items. They also take Apple Pay. The store is pretty small on the inside but very cutely decorated. They had water available. Not a huge area to sit though. Definitely recommend.
Sugar Moon is one of those places I told myself to visit once the hype dies down. Well the hype never died down so I decided to try it out and wait in line anyways. I was skeptical but it's worth it, especially on a nice cool fall day. Necessary and sufficient coffee is also down the block so you can grab a drink while waiting in line. I got there 15 min after opening and got inside 30 minutes later. Everything was amazing and the price is very reasonable for the quality and flavor. I got veggie focaccia, chocolate chip tahini cookie, sweet scone, veggie gallete, and the chai spice roll. My favorite was the spice roll! Service is extremely quick friendly. One of the best, if not the best bakeries I've tried in the city! Pro tip, go on Friday to avoid the long lines. There is minimal seating so expect to take most pastries to go.
Glorious. One-of-a-kind. Amazing. Definitely some of the best pastries I've had in Chicago recently. If you haven't made it over to Sugar Moon yet, it's well worth a trek out of the way! We visited around noon on a Sunday, and after reading the reviews here, I wasn't optimistic there would be many pastries left. Maybe I should play the lottery, because luckily there was no line and a pretty good selection of pastries left. The staff were super friendly and there were so many unique flavors of baked goods. We decided to split several and opted for the blueberry cloud cookie, chai cinnamon roll, banana pudding croissant, espresso cornflake cookie, and potato focaccia. The shop was more of a small take-out operation, so we took the pastries to a nearby park to eat. Everything was absolutely divine! The group favorite was the focaccia- the creamy potatoes and cheese brought a rich flavor that was perfectly balanced by the fluffy bread. The chai roll was perfectly soft and delicately spiced, completed with that soft cream cheese frosting and gooey center we all like to see. My personal favorite was the banana pudding croissant- the dough was so crispy that I'm pretty sure others could hear the bite, and there was a generous amount of filling with fresh bananas and visible vanilla beans in the whipped cream. The espresso cookie was super soft- while I couldn't taste the espresso very clearly, I absolutely *loved* the caramel-coated cornflakes topped with sea salt. Super unique and would definitely order again. Despite their decadent appearances, none of the pastries were too sweet. Already plotting a return visit and can't recommend this shop enough!
Based on the reviews, we arrived around 8:30 to get in line. We ended up being first, but it was a snowy morning--by 9:00 the line was already long. The bakery itself looked and smelled amazing. It's primarily a pickup spot, with only about four seats inside. The staff was very friendly, and we tried a handful of items: the tiramisu cookie, chai bun, pizza focaccia, poblano brioche, and the London fog basque cheesecake. Everything was good, but nothing really stood out as spectacular or worth a 30-minute wait. The tiramisu cookie was definitely the highlight. I'd consider going back, but probably only once the hype dies down and the line isn't as long.
Was hoping that this spot was not all hype and I can confirm, it is indeed NOT just hype! Delicious pastries that tasted so fresh and are made with high quality ingredients. We tried an assortment but the faves included the chai spice roll, the strawberry pretzel croissant, the pistachio cake with chocolate frosting, and the poblano brioche. I have a big sweet tooth but the savory pastry really wowed me! The space is small but there is a great selection from which to choose. The staff were very friendly and we will definitely be back to try more soon!
Reviews are largely positive. People highlight the unique pastry flavors, fresh and high quality baked goods, and friendly, efficient staff.

The wait was insane! Comparable to kasama but I think it moved a bit faster since it's only take out. We waited for 1hour and 15 mins on a Saturday morning but definitely worth it. My fav was the GIARD focaccia- very fluffy and flavorful! I also got the black sesame cheesecake , tiramisu cloud cookie, corn beef croissant, bacon bagel, and cinnamon roll. Their pastry are freshly made and constantly refilling so you will never get ones that's been sitting there for a couple of hours. The service is fast and friendly. And the decor is super cute and aesthetic! read more
We were lucky enough to enjoy some pastries at our place. We tried the tahini chocolate chip cookie, the giardiniera focaccia, apple croissant pastry, and a savory everything bagel pastry. Everything was super tasty and we loved how unique all the flavor profiles were. My personal favorite was the apple pastry and it is 10x better than any baked apple treat I've had. We will be back to try more things! read more
I saw all the great five-star reviews of this particular bakery shop so I thought I would finally give this place a try! Have to admit, I was a bit intimidated by the small hours over the weekend, changing and slightly elusive menu, long reported lines, and high sell-out risk. However, we got to the shop around an hour after they opened, and although we did wait in a line for around 25-30 minutes, there were plenty of options left and it was really hard to choose just one from what we could see! They feature both sweet and savory and have plenty of vegan options. The interior is small (but well decorated and cute) with window seating, but other than that, it is expected you clear out if those seats are available so those in line can enter. As other reviews have mentioned, it doesn't really matter what you order because it is all made in small batches and high quality. I was surprised that a lot of it isn't warm (we were there on a really cold and snowy day, so they probably taste better when they're warmed up), so FYI on that. We got: Cranberry scone - dense but slightly sweet, strong cranberry flavor with icing, everything you would expect! Jalapeno cheddar - clearly had a salty cheddary/savory flavor, would have loved to taste more of the jalapeno throughout the scone or for it to feature a bit more spice but was still lovely! Tomato foccacia - was my favorite, so yummy, plenty of herbs and bread was slightly chewy and very fresh! Chai spice roll - soft and delivered on chai and spice flavors with plenty of icing I think it's so cool that they're constantly working on different recipes and changing their menu as well, so you have more opportunities to come back and try more of their creations! All the pastries are large and look beautiful, the presentation is fantastic and would also make a great gift for anyone :) I'll definitely come back! read more
This place is amazing! Have a few chairs if you want to dine in, but it's mostly a carry out spot. I particularly like their savory pastries, like the Buffalo chicken croissant. Staff is very friendly too. However, if you're in a time crunch and need to get your fix in early, might need to prepare ahead. On Sunday, I went in line at 8:55 am and only got to order at about 9:25 am. From Eater: This cute Logan Square bakery is off the beaten path but is pure Chicago. The chocolate chip cookies are can't miss, addicting with the ability to transform the most rotten day into a win. The savory pastries, there might be some giardiniera or Italian beef involved, make for a game changing snack. The neighborhood may not want this secret out in public, but Sugar Moon is destination worthy. read more

Sugar moon definitely lives up to the hype! I was surprised at all the options they had. On a Friday morning close to opening it will take maybe 30 minutes to get to the front of the line, so be prepared with a jacket or umbrella as needed. Their savory pastries were all delicious. Highlights were the miso portobello brioche and the Thai tea cloud. It's a very small space inside so once you get in, you're very close to ordering. Be mentally prepared to make quick decisions since you'll need to peer at all the displays to see what's offered. read more
Ordered at 9:20 after arriving at 8:45. Went with the chai spiced cinnamon roll, cloud cookie, and bacon brioche. The cinnamon roll was pretty big and smelled immaculate. There were some hard spots around the edges but the interior was soft. It also had a nice caramelized bottom and the frosting wasn't overly sweet. Next, the tiramisu cloud cookie which I chose over the lemon one. I didn't know what to expect but the name makes perfect sense. This was literally the lightest cookie I've had. Basically eating tiramisu in cookie form. Finally, while I'm not the biggest bacon fan, I split the brioche and wow. Not much bacon but the bread was so so fluffy and an unexpected hard boiled egg tucked in the hole. I just wish this place was closer cause everything was phenomenal. read more
I'll just say it was worth the 45 min wait in the rain! This place is charming, cute, and inviting. I had no idea there was ganna be a line, especially when it was raining hard but I thought wrong. It was so hard not to buy 1 of everything. This place has made my top 5 pastries in the city! They are only open Fri-Sun so the goods here are pretty sought out. I believe they rotate flavors and have seasonal stuff too. Everything I bought was phenomenal on so many levels. This is a place I can def see myself going to again and again. read more
Such a wonderful bakery that has a great selection of pastries. I got the almond butter jam bar (loved the jammy pop of berry flavor that contrasted with the nutty almond butter and oatmeal) and the espresso cornflake cookie (which I'm currently eating as a late afternoon snack right now) - my friends got a hodgepodge of sweet and savory pastries and I got to try a bite of each. The raspberry pistachio croissant stood out to me and was super fresh and yummy. I recommend going right when they open - there's typically a line but it moves fast. And be sure to get enough so that you can enjoy the goodies the next day!! read more
My friend had gifted me a box of assortments from Sugar Moon for my birthday, and I practically ate it all in one sitting-- it was THAT good! My particular favorite was their Egg, Poblano, Bacon, Cheddar on Brioche w/ Everything But the Bagel Seasoning (I'm not sure if that is even the name, but you get the idea). It was so delicious it had me craving more, and the weekend after, I had to make the trip up north from South Loop to get myself another one! As many of the reviews mention, it is recommended you do come early since lines can be long, and its first come first serve. I suggest following their instagram @sugarmoonchi, where they post live updates on their stock throughout the morning. This is the route I took, and even though I did come a few hours into their opening, I was still able to get what I came for (thank goodness!). Given that I came close to closing, I was able to sit down by their window and enjoy and soak up the sun! In conclusion, don't let the traveling and wait scare you away. It's a must try!! read more

This bakery is small but efficient, quickly getting through all the orders. I've been here twice, and it's a solid spot. It's a cute little bakery shop with a lot to offer. I really like the chai cinnamon roll. read more

Still thinking about the banana pudding croissant and wishing I lived closer to regularly partake. I personally enjoyed the sweet offerings over the savory. Come early. A line forms 30 minutes before opening. read more
Have walked past this spot countless times since they're a block away from where I live. Lines are always long whenever I walk by and they're open. In 2021, I had a few pastries that a friend had bought. Absolutely delicious. Popped in one recent Friday morning and bought a blondie and a pastry topped with pear slices and caramel. The blondie was great with coffee. The pear pastry was a nice night snack along with a glass of wine. If I ate desserts more, this bakery would be trouble for me because I would be in there constantly. I will admit that I like their small batch offerings better than what I'd get at any neighboring bakeries. read more
We waited in a long line for a good 30 minutes. It was definitely hot outside, but worth the damn wait. We were kind of worried that they would sell out of everything before we got inside, but once we were in, they still had plenty of everything out on the display. That was definitely a big relief. Service was also great. They had smiles and very friendly and welcoming. We took home, a Blondie, Tahini chocolate chip cookie, and their Corn Flake Espresso cookie. All tasted fresh, very sweet and so soft. It's hard to say which of the three was my favorite but I kept taking bites of all three. I really didn't realize why it was called a blondie until I took a bite and it reminded me of a brownie, but it wasn't chocolate in color. Silly me. Can't wait to come back and try some more. read more
The best bakery I have been to.. maybe ever. They have such unique pastries and each one is better than the next! I got there at 11:00am or so, maybe due to weather there was actually no line but I wouldn't count on that. The inside is very quaint and they move through customers quickly. I thought the service was fast paced maybe not as overwhelmingly friendly as I've seen some other reviews mention, but they're a super busy bakery and it was later in their hours so I definitely didn't see it as anything rude. I got many many things to try. Savory- I had the poblano roll and the jalapeño popper roll. Both were very yummy. The jalapeño popper was the favorite of both my boyfriend and I. Sweet- I got a big box of stuff to share amongst friends after a dinner and all lasted throughout the day without becoming stale! It was so hard to choose a favorite we all liked different things the most. I loved the banana pudding croissant and the tiramisu cloud cookie the most. We also loved the chocolate passion fruit cookie & the cornflake espresso cookie & the brown butter blondie. The only thing I wouldn't get again was the almond cherry olive oil cake. It was still really good but was not standout compared to so many other phenomenal items. I think what makes this place so special is that they really know how to uniquely blend flavors in a way that gives you something unexpectedly perfect. There was often a hint of saltiness to make the sweet desserts that much more complex. Nothing was too sweet, it was all just right. The textures were also amazing, specifically the tiramisu cloud cookie they somehow encapsulate the texture of the soaked lady fingers in tiramisu but in a cookie form that's not soggy but fluffy instead. read more

Sugar Moon has easily become my favorite bakery in Chicago! I would definitely recommend showing up about 10-20 minutes early, especially on Sundays when the Logan Square Market is going on. They are only open from 9am-when they sell out, which can be pretty early! I have come with friends a few times and we usually wait in line for about 15-20 minutes or so, but there is a coffeeshop around the corner so you can sip and wait. I would highly recommend getting one of their cookies while you are there (favs are the chocolate chip and the espresso cookie). I also really liked the jalapeño popper galette, as well as their pear brioche. Everything is great though! Will definitely be going back soon :) read more
On Sunday mornings my son and I like to walk the little over a mile to a sugar Moon Bakery and get in line for their incredible sweet and savory goodies. The walk makes me feel better about what I'm about to inhale, because the food is so good I can't only buy one thing. Last weekend I got a slice of their focaccia pizza (excellent), a vegan chocolate chip cookie (gooey and outstanding) and some croissant twist that had asparagus and prosciutto in it (mind blowing). Yeah, I probably should double the walk with all those calories I'm getting, but damn is it worth it. Pro Tip - send your friend down to the corner to get coffee while you wait in line for Sugar Moon. The coffee shop is sloooooow. read more

This small bakery has such unique and delicious pastries, I want to get one of everything everytime I'm here. There is usually a line but it moves fairly quickly and they still have almost all of their stock available around 10am. We got the bacon brioche, chai spice roll, savory scone, and pumpkin pecan olive oil cake. They were all delicious but I especially liked the scone and olive oil cake. This is easily one of my favorite bakeries in the city! read more

Everything was delicious. We particularly enjoyed the savory ones, really flavorful and balanced. Cloud tiramisu cookie was light and fluffy, which I preferred over cornflake espresso cookies. It's worth the wait. If get there a bit before the store is open, it can shorten the wait. read more
Trying a new bakery is kind of like going to a new barber or pizzeria after going to the same one for several years. The comfort. The consistency. The quality. You almost feel like you'd be cheating if you ever went somewhere else. Well, ever since Sugar Moon opened last year in Logan Square, let's just say I hope my old bakery isn't jealous. Sugar Moon opened in the fall of 2021 to lines around the block, lines which still form each weekend even before owner Dina Cimarusti opens her doors. The baked goods are plentiful and delicious - customers can browse the cute, detailed menu on social media or simply let their eyes (and nose) marvel at the displays inside the shop. Let's start with the sweets. From delectable cookies to unique scones and brioches, there's no shortage of things to choose from. The Tahini Chocolate Chip cookie is perfect, chocolate gooeyness toward the center with that perfect, slightly crusty outer edge. The Espresso Cornflake cookie, however, is my new favorite, an unbelievable marriage of flavors and textures that could be enjoyed for breakfast, lunch, or that perfect after dinner snack. When Corn Flakes are on a cookie, well... Speaking of flavors and textures, don't sleep on the Carrot Cupcake, perfectly moist and scrumptious, balanced with pineapple jam and pecan praline. While many bakeries around town exceed in the sweets department, few offer such a wide variety of savory treats as Sugar Moon. My wife and I can't get enough of the giant Poblano and Cheddar Scone, popping with flavor and balanced savoriness, that smoked paprika elevating it beyond belief. And how about that Roasted Carrot Galette, essentially a savory French tart that brings to the party harissa, pomegranate molasses, honey, lemon mascarpone, and toasted pine nuts for an incredible celebration of flavor and texture. Menus change monthly, so make sure you stop by soon to check out some of the aforementioned treasures. You won't regret it! Just make sure you get there early, and um, don't tell your other bakery ;) read more

I only have one picture from this spot even thought I've been here many times, but I have a habit of inhaling everything I get before even thinking of taking a photo. Seriously, everything here is delicious. Sweet pastries, savory, you can't go wrong. If you're looking for a fancy espresso drink, go a few doors down to Necessary and sufficient, but sugar moon does have a solid cup of drip if that's what you need. Pickup only and be sure to get here early! There's almost always a li e and they do sometimes sell out. read more
Run don't walk to Sugar Moon!! Try to get here early as lines do form. Their menu changes all the time and it's always wonderful to try new items. This most recent time I got two sweet items and two savory items. I also had to get the tahini chocolate chip cookie as it's one of my favorite cookies. They have a wide variety of items and flavors so you'll be sure to find something that suits your taste. The pastries are large and there will definitely be enough to share. I especially recommend the pastries with fresh fruit. If you haven't tried Sugar Moon yet, you're missing out! Honestly, everything is really good and you will definitely not leave disappointed. read more

Sugar Moon is everything you want in a local neighborhood bakery! All the pastries looked delectable from the window and freshly baked every morning - you can tell by the smell of fresh baked goodness wafting through the air when you walk in! We waited in a short line outside Sugar Moon on a Friday morning around 9:30-10:00am. There is a coffee shop on the corner that my friend suggested we grab coffee to enjoy while waiting in line. It was absolutely delicious, fresh baked, unique flavors, rotating seasonal items like focaccia, brioche rolls, and other baked goodies. A MUST TRY in Logan Square! As other reviews mentioned you do have to get there early and wait in a small line outside the store. As they may sell out of the treat you'd like to try that day. read more
My wife and I lost our damn minds in this place! A couple of friends got us hip to the spot and let us know we had to get there early because they sell out. We arrived 30 minutes before they opened and were 4th in line. The box I'm the picture is one of two that we ordered (like I said we lost our damn minds). We ordered: tahini chocolate chip cookies, an expresso cereal cookie, giardeinera focaccia, a blondie, a corned beef croissant, a savory bacon pastry, a cinnamon roll, an apple pastry, and I'm sure there were others (We were feeding our family and had plenty of leftover for the week, so judge if you want, but it was so good that I don't really care). The staff were friendly and moved efficiently to fill the orders. The corn beef croissant did not make it home. We had to split that in the car. Not everything was a hit, but there were enough bangers to call this a classic album. The prices were very reasonable. Be aware that this is also a carry out operation, so don't plan on staying. They are also only open a few days a week. This is a must try spot. I'll definitely be back. read more

I love this bakery. I really do. But there's a serious supply and demand problem with them. When they first opened, it was Thursday through Sunday and I could pop in during lunch on Thursdays and get whatever was left from the morning rush. Now they've cut down to just Friday through Sunday and you have to be there at opening in order to get a decent selection because they got super popular over the spring. I understand they're small batch. I understand they have a tiny kitchen. I understand that the bakery isn't their entire life. But they've created a scarcity problem so people literally start lining up 30 minutes before opening and a line goes around the block. And because you wait in a long line, everyone comes out with a huge box of pastries. I don't have time to do that on the regular. I've loved everything I've had from them but they're not a reliable bakery. This isn't a bakery you can pop into for a small treat. Chances are they're sold out, closed because it's not the weekend, or closed because they took the weekend off. And they don't have a consistent menu so it's not like you can really have a favorite. And they don't post their menus in advance (sometimes they post on instagram stories). They're a fun novelty. I just wish they would go back to being a neighborhood bakery instead of being a novelty bakery. read more
Quite possibly the best chocolate chip cookie in all of Chicago. I also think the "focaccia" is something to be experienced although there's a slight resemblance to bonci is west loop. The dough here is much softer though. There's artwork for sale as well as feee books to add the allure of this place. This was a long trek for me however I wasn't disappointed in the drive but I doubt I'd make this drive often. The spicy aspect of the focaccia was a welcome surprise also. read more

Love stopping by and supporting small businesses. Huge variety from pizza to savory and sweets. We tried the scone, the bacon egg and cheese brioche and the spicy beef croissant.
