Succulent Seafood - Mahi Mahi - Seafood Markets Near Me - Naperville, Illinois

It's amazing how this place continues to meet the highest standards of customer service and the freshest seafood. John and his staff have run this place since I was a child and they offer the friendliest service every time I go in. The crab cakes are a must, and I love getting fresh mussels as a make-at-home dinner. read more

Succulent Seafood is a minority in the area for being in the small demographic of Naper mom & pop owner-operated. Obvi, not only is it great to support the local family businesses, but the service is almost always better. And service is excellent here. Prices: hooray! Cheap (shhh, please don't rise them)! I've ordered from here a few times now and had to do a double-take to confirm what I was seeing. Especially because the other options in the strip mall (Trader Joe's, Casey = uber pricey). The food: if you like seafood and especially FRIED seafood, you'll love this place. We've ordered the crab cake sandwich (soft bread, yummy), hush puppies, fried shrimp.. all delicious. Reluctantly, 1 star deducted for two reasons. First of all, it would be nice to see some more options that weren't fried. How about grilled shrimp, grilled salmon? Also, I've ordered the crab cake sandwich twice and it lacked consistency (somehow, the recipe varied or maybe it changed). In general, I'm a solid fan. We just don't order from here too often since there isn't more of a non-fried selection. My husband doesn't eat seafood so maybe if they added just a little burger, it would help get more dinner orders. read more

Grabbed some takeout from here--the seafood pasta was delicious, but the battered cod, coconut shrimp and crawfish rangoon were all burnt. I don't know if they were fried too long or if the oil they were fried in needed to be replaced, but it was not good. And I was pretty disappointed that we were even given that because when I got home and opened up the takeout boxes, you could visually see that everything was burnt. If I owned a place and saw that, I would've remade them because they were so obviously burnt. read more

The food is excellent! Stopped down this afternoon for a dozen shrimp and fries, cooked-to-perfection. The owner John is truly a relationship professional...this is going to be my new spot! read more

Fish here was fresh, but their refusal to wear masks during a pandemic is irresponsible. I'm taking my business elsewhere.

Just ordered take-out last night. Calamari and crab cakes apps, grilled swordfish and salmon dinners. Firstly, the fresh fish section is not fresh, the display case was dirty, the fish looked old, and not much of a selection. When you go into a fish market you expect to see variety and fresh fish, not a large frozen section that looked to have old frozen fish. The menu says, portions are larger with the dinners over the lunch menu. Absolutely ridiculous. The swordfish came with a side of pasta that was clumped together, undercooked and cold. It also came with 3 small pieces of broccoli. The swordfish itself tasted old and dried out. Our calamari app was not fresh, overly fried, hard and had no taste. The 'fresh' crab cakes were not fresh. Over-priced, no selection, not fresh, small portions. It wasn't worth the 20 min drive. read more

This gem of a restaurant has been here 21 years and I am just coming here for a meal? I feel as though I have done myself a HUGE disservice. The owner was so very gracious, kind, and hospitable. The establishment is a real seafood restaurant because when you walk in your automatically hit with freshwater fish smell & it is amazing! Come enjoy the meal, the cleanliness, the hospitality. The prices are so very reasonable and when he brought us our meals the catfish filet and the grouper filet meals they were AWESOME! The flakiness of the crust was a melt in your mouth experience which was unforgettable. Come one come all! The CRAB CAKES ARE EXCELLENT! Stop reading and get up and get over here. He gave us two of the fried shrimp as a gracious act and they stopped me in my tracks. WAIT! Just stop reading and get OVER HERE! I could write all day! Thank YOU JOHN! read more

Succulent Seafood is the best! The quality of their seafood exceeds competitors. John and Peggy are customer focused and bend over backwards to accommodate anyone. They offer call in curb side for anyone who has COVID concerns. For those who choose to enter the store they maintain behind the counter 6 ft distance. read more

This was a nice find. My parents love seafood so we ran out to get some grillins. I've been on a couple occasions now. The first time I bought escolar, which I'd never heard of. As it turns out, escolar is somewhat controversial because some businesses try to pass off a similar tasting fish as escolar that makes people quite sick. Any, I don't mean to confuse things - the escolar at this market is the real deal. Delicious. GREAT on the grill. Another time I got sea bass, which was melt-in-your-mouth fresh and wonderful. The fish guy is great at helping you find the perfect catch. Best of all, the nice lady at the register gave me 10% off my first purchase, just cuz. read more

Tried this based on a review of a Yelp friend Rachell J. It was amazing. I grew up in the city and this place reminds me of DiCola's was a family favorite. At Succulent Seafood you have a choice to buy fresh fish and seafood to take home and cook or to buy it semi-prepared (marinated, seasoned, breaded) or prepared fish/seafood from their menu to take home or eat in at one of the few bistro tables. I tried the fried jumbo shrimp and it was fantastic. Large shrimp the breading was nicely flavored and still crisp (and not greasy) when I got home. I also purchased salmon and sea bass to cook at home. I found the fish to be priced either the same or better than the supermarket and the salmon was wild instead of farm raised. A great DiCola's like experience (Chicago South-Siders understand) in Naperville. Thanks for the review that got my attention Rachell J! P.S. I list it as pricey because seafood in general is pricey but you get a lot of value and it is the same to slightly cheaper than supermarket prices. read more

The fresh fish/seafood selection is somewhat limited but it has always been extremely fresh. My family always enjoys when I can find fresh tuna from here because it is always excellent. The butterfish has also always been fantastic as well. I would say to try and visit early in the day for the best selection. John is also a great resource to determine what you may want to try as well as portion sizes to consider. read more

"Do not overcook this dish. Most seafoods...should be simply threatened with heat and then celebrated with joy." That was Lyndon B Johnson..... In Naperville, and the midwest, seafood is for special occasions. Succulent Seafood has totally changed that. They have fresh fish in the back which they will tell you how to prepare or even marinade it for you. On your way out why not take a load off and have fried oysters and a soft shell crab sandwich! Oh yeah, still in Naperville and for under $15. Its amazing, fried to a crisp and served on a roll with lettuce, tomato, and mayo. Completely worth the visit. Its such a secret in Naperville, I take people there who have been living in Naperville their whole lives and they can't believe it. Think i'm joking? There are 180,000 people in the town and less then 10 reviews. So really nobody knows how great this place is and I'm telling you to have your next lunch there. Say Hi to the owners, they are so friendly and they'll help you make better seafood at home. read more

Literally a mom and pop shop. Prices are pretty good, knowledgeable folks who can give you advice.

So, when you walk into this place you will immediately wonder exactly what they do here. There's a menu as if they are a restaurant, yet there's a variety of grocery like items, and further back is a case filled with fresh seafood cuts. Is it a restaurant, a fish monger, or a grocery? Part of me hates giving a place like this 5 stars. It's small and has a less than ideal atmosphere. That said, it is the best place to get fresh or cooked seafood in at least a 20 mile radius (34th Street Fishery does come close). John will cook anything for you on the spot at a more than reasonable price. The scallops, crab cakes, and cheese balls are my favorite. Don't let the whiteboad above the stove limit you. If they have some fresh seafood in (skate, perhaps) that is not on the menu, they are generally happy to cook it up for you. One last thing to note. If you want the best fresh fish, fresh lobster, crab legs, or other seafood, this is the place to go. I usually go to pick up fish for the week and get a nice lunch while I am there. If there's something specific you are looking for, ask. They have been able to get a lot of fish in for me at special request. read more

Succulent enough for seconds, you can count on it. A little seafood confection hidden off of the beaten path of Gartner, Succulent Seafood offers a nice array of bite worthy salt water offerings that can be grilled, baked or mashed together for a mouth watering salad. The deli is home to not only fresh and frozen selections but also a pitstop for a mid day sandwich or roughly constructed meal. I was in search for calamari to be added to gazpacho and decided to try them out to see what was in stock. The fresh fish selection is impressive considering the location and the fact that the deli is in a far western suburb. The items are no different than a seaport give or take the larger frozen selection and the more variety for picnic favorites like crab salad or seafood salad. I was impressed with the filet cuts and the assortment of thawed on ice types of fish like salmon, cod and shrimp. Automatically drawn over to see if there was calamari, I was lucky to find the rings and quickly nabbed one of the many bags available. While it's only rings and no tentacles one can't complain. It's fresh, pre-cut and ready to be thawed. Capped out at $13.00 for the entire bag, I would say this was a job well done. When in need for some seafood and not feeling like leaving the local area I would definitely give Succulent Seafood a call. The service is on the money, prices are in tact and the variety is definitely noted. read more

Great atmosphere. Food was great. BYOB for beer and wine. Customer service was top notch. Felt like I was dining at family members home.

Wow, what a gem this place is!! It's pretty rare these days to find a small, individually-owned place like this in Naperville and even rarer to get such fresh, amazing food for such a low price. For anyone to say the food is "average at best" must not have ever eaten fish in their lives, because I have eaten at 5 star restaurants like Everest that paled in comparison to this place. The prices are also WAY lower than they should be, so complaining about the price is just plain ridiculous. If you have ever BEEN to Naperville before, you should know that you absolutely can NOT get a beautifully grilled piece of Grouper with veggies for a measly $10 anywhere but here. If you want delicious, super fresh fish presented simply without all of the unnecessary frills, you need to make this place your second home. The owner is clearly so passionate about his business and really loves the product (how could he not??). He chatted with me for quite a while yesterday while whipping up our absolutely to-die-for tuna steak salad and crabcake sandwhich (best tuna and crabcake I have had, no joke) and I was so impressed by how incredibly friendly and knowledgeable he was. P.S. This place is NOT dirty at all and there is no reason whatsoever for anyone to claim that there is "God knows what" in the freezer. How would anyone claim anything about what's in a freezer when they can't see it even from the outside?? Some people just have to complain about everything. It really angers me when honest, exceptionally hard-working business owners suffer because someone has to make imaginary claims about their business due to their own standards being impossibly (and ridiculously) unattainable. The fish here is absolutely the best quality and the freshest you can get outside of living right on the coast, period. read more

John, the owner of this establishment and his assistant Peggy refuse to wear face masks during this coronavirus pandemic. When asked why, Peggy stated, "We don't believe in it." I have been a loyal customer for years. Too bad they cannot put aside their political views for the welfare of their customers. I will find another place to buy my fish. Paula Vollmer read more

Worked in Naperville over 20 years and did not know about this place. Yes, it's a fast food place, if that's what you call slicing off a slab of fresh fish from the cooler and getting it batter fried. Crab cakes were as good as what I've had on the north end of town. DItto for fried oysters. We'll be back. read more

It's a seafood joint. There is no need for bs here. Fried seafood, fresh fish, sandwiches. A place of the frying arts. BUT IN NAPERVILLE? Whaaa??? I'll admit this, even living in Naperville for nearly 2 decades, AND having this place within 5 minutes driving distance, I never actually tried this place until a few days ago. I'm ashamed, because I knew it was there but was never curious. Maybe it was that I never knew it was a restaurant (always thought it was a fish market, but selling seafood and cooking it in the same place makes perfect sense). Then one day, I was craving some fried seafood, and the rest is history. read more

I first went to these guys' second location down at Rt 59 and 100 something. At both locations they're smallish but organized. So friendly, as fresh as you can get seafood. The Butterfish I bought and grilled tonight was spectacular.

Tried food off the menu today and what a disappointment! Ordered the pasta with shrimp, sausage, and crawfish let me say this was the worst meal I've paid for in my life. The dis had 4 average sized shrimp, a scattering of crawfish, and five thin slices of sausage on a small bed of store bought spaghetti noodles topped with some Bays seafood mix. Paid $13 for a dish that had at best $1.5 in ingredients! My daughter ordered the salad with salmon and again a huge disappointment, couple cups of chopped lettuce topped with a small piece of salmon. Bland taste and tiny portion. Don't waste your time ordering anything off the menu!!! I would have given Zero stars but that isn't an option. read more

We spent quite a bit of money here Friday and the fresh fish we cooked at home was very good but the pasta seafood dishes were very dry, they promised different sauces but the all tasted the same and very dry. Don't like saying these things but I have to be honest, especially after seeing how much my son spent, we had to try to save the pasta with olive oil and we really missed the flavors we were looking forward to. read more

This is the kind of local market I love to give my business. The seafood is top notch. I've never had a bad purchase from them. On top of it, they make prepared dishes as well, and those are always outstanding. Just today I had a fried grouper sandwich that was phenomenal! Lastly, the owner John and the others that work there are super friendly and knowledgeable. read more

My boyfriend liked this place more than I did, but I found the interior a little dirty and outdated. I got the fried shrimp dinner to go and was unimpressed with all parts of it- the coleslaw had big pieces of cabbage in it and wasn't especially well-seasoned, and the fries were bland and some were soggy. The shrimp themselves were the best part but even with them the breading didn't taste like much and was prone to falling off. I'm not a huge seafood fan to begin with, so I do not think I'll be back. read more

Was craving some seafood so decided to give this place a try, so we ordered 2 grouper sandwiches, 1/2lb of shrimp and hushpuppies. After i ordered i started looking around and the place is disgustingly dirty like not been cleaned in 10yrs dirty. so dirty i should have left but we were starving. fryers filthy, fresh seafood counter nothing fresh about it filthy. way more frozen fish than fresh and the fresh looked horrible. Everything we ordered came out of the freezer. Hushpuppies were black and burnt, shrimp were large but tasted old and breading just came off in chunks with 1 bite, grouper fish was very small, not fresh and over fried. Fries and slaw were also not good at all and to top it off the lady running the place went from cooking area to fresh fish area to cashier and never one time put on fkn gloves. The bowl she used to put food in after it came out the fryer has not been cleaned in a wk and everything went in that bowl, frys, shrimp, hushpuppies. This place is grosse, Better food at long john silvers and if u wanna cook your own go to supreme lobster or shit marianos this place mite have been something to be proud of 15yrs ago but now if i owned this place i would just be ashamed. If you are the owner clean your damn restaurant, make your employee ware gloves and get rid of the freezers. NO ONE WANTS FROZEN SEAFOOD WE CAN GET THAT CRAP ANYWARE. read more

This place is the best! The owners take great pride in their seafood and for good reason - it is outstanding. Always fresh and very good prices. Succulent Seafood is a hidden gem!! read more

I ordered the crab cake sandwich which included French fries and small coke slaw. I have to say the crab cake was very thin and deep fried. It was not what I expected as I have eaten other crab cakes that had better flavor and 1-inch thick flaky crab cake but this was I/4 inch it was okay but not the best. The cole slaw was 1/4 cup with a lot of mayo and lacked flavor. The thin French fries was very greasy. Overall, this place I would give it a 2Stars compared to the other reviews that rated it 3stars and higher. Not impressed, don't waste your time or money at this place move on as there are other restaurants that serve better crab cake sandwich. read more

I don't understand how in the world this place can even exist in today's economy? The place is dirty, the fresh fish selection is poor at best and you're going to pay whole foods prices. Then there are huge freezers full of god knows what? Everything I've purchased from here has been so totally average yet not priced accordingly. I just keep thinking it's a drug front cause every time I try to get some decent fresh fish, they just look at me weirdly when I'm staring into the case trying to figure this place out - a few clams here and there, a bag of mussels, and some old dried out perch. Kinda like fish props. Wondering what's going on in the back? I mean really... read more

Stopped by for a quick lunch before heading home from Naperville. I was able to pick out my fresh fish and see it being prepared right in front of me. Couldn't decide between grouper, arctic char or wild salmon. Opted for wild salmon lunch special - grilled with a light drizzle of honey dijon and a side of fresh grilled asparagus and fettucini al dente with a little bit of butter sauce. All this for $8.99 a plate! Needless to say that the fresh grilled fish tasted incredibly delicious. The owner is super friendly and said that they get their fish flown in fresh daily. Went looking for a new seafood restaurant for Lenten season last night. Found this place but couldn't make it that night. Had to go to Naperville Saturday afternoon so we stopped to check them out. The place was empty which made me happy. Apparently though it was Joplin' the night before. It felt like a fish mongers shop in the south, nothin fancy but it doesn't have to be. I had time to look at everything at my leisure and made mental notes of what to try on our next visit. John, the owner was preparing Oysters Rockefeller when we walked in and the smell was intoxicating. We ordered some along with the crab bisque, clam chowder, crawfish rangoons, and crab cakes. Everything was fresh and hot and delicious. The oysters were outstanding and the crab cakes were perfect. His pricing was beyond reasonable and we are happy to report that we will be making Succulent Seafood our go to for seafood from now on! read more
