My dad eats here religiously on Sundays after church and after years trying different things I found my favorite. Grouper with Asiago cheese n linguini. I really cannot put into words how amazingly fresh the fish is. Outstanding prices and they cook for you on sight with fries, pasta or veg. I stopped in and had the grouper and my son had mussels. Really wanted to like this place. The first few visits were OK, but our most recent purchase, redfish, trout, and sea bass were inedible! Tasted like soap or disinfectant! Also, fresh fish should not smell fishy, but they smelled slightly fishy during cooking. $60 down the drain. We won't give them another try. read more

After driving by this place about a million times, I finally stopped in to get some fresh fish. Nice little shop. The service is super friendly, and the variety of fresh and frozen seafood far surpasses what you'd find at a typical grocery store. The first time I went, I bought fresh halibut and crab cakes. The crab cakes were okay, but the halibut was absolutely succulent. I bought king salmon on my most recent trip, and it was also amazing. This place is more expensive than the grocery store, but I suppose that's because of quality and variety. Also, most items in the fresh fridge are not labeled, so I end up having to ask what's what. read more

I called and talked to Peggy at Succulent Seafood about helping me with a small seafood appetizer buffet for a party in September. I then went into the store and met with John to prepare two trays of seafood for a party I was hosting. I gave them my own platters to use. No problem using what I gave them. They did an exceptional job at displaying their seafood. The crab claws here a huge hit with my guests. I picked up some fresh fish for dinner when I dropped off the trays and also some large oysters that were flash frozen. Just thaw and it's just like they were shucked right then. I stopped here to get some sushi grade salmon and tuna. This appears to be the closest place to Yorkville that carries sushi grade fish. I brought my toddler with me. We were greeted upon walking in. We found Succulent Seafood while searching for a needle in a haystack -- shrimp having the lowest possible salt content for a restricted-diet dinner party at our house. The owner was very knowledgeable and immediately knew which shrimp to recommend! I had researched the subject in advance and was thrilled to find that she had the low-salt shrimp in stock, in the large size, recently frozen. (Seafood is freshest if frozen immediately, onboard the ship.) The shrimp turned out to be truly delicious, and the dinner party was a huge success. While at the store, my husband and I ordered the clam pasta and coconut shrimp for lunch. Both were excellent! The french fries were crispy, and the cole slaw was tasty. From the reviews, I knew to expect a super-casual atmosphere, but I was surprised that the food was so good. The store did not smell very fishy, which is a huge accomplishment as I have a very good sense of smell. And, the prices were very reasonable. In the past, I have always picked up whatever seafood they have at Costco. In fact, my husband used Costco shrimp to test recipes in advance of the party. Love their Arctic char and King Salmon the best. I notice a few reviews complained about their mask compliance, even one former customer Paula, who according to her reviews stopped going there awhile ago, continues writing new complaints (yet she is no longer a customer?) The nice thing about Succulent Seafood is they have curb side pickup if you are not comfortable going inside. Also, when I wear my mask it protects me if I'm ever concerned. I'm so happy I discovered Succulent Seafood. My review is based on his selection of fish, not the kitchen as I've only had them cook for me once. For a fish lover living in the landlocked Midwest fresh fish is not always an easy option to find, especially if you are not a fan of pale, farm raised, previously frozen Atlantic salmon. John always has a great selection of fish on hand. He'll take the time to answer questions about fish you may be unfamiliar with, provides cooking tips and as an added bonus has a little kitchen where he can prepare meals for you in a pinch. Knowing I don't come in every week he even has started freezing and saving cuts of some of my favorite fish that he doesn't get on a regular basis. Some of my favorites that I buy almost every trip are the king salmon, arctic char, red trout, and butter fish when it's available. To be honest, I have yet to buy something I didn't love. I've been coming here for years for seafood but I've never dined off of their menu! I don't know if I'm excited to have experienced such good food, or if I'm upset with myself for not having tried it sooner! I looked over the menu and since I had been having a taste for a Caesar salad, I decided to order that with shrimp BUT my mind was quickly changed when I was told that ahi tuna was an option. First off, the Caesar dressing is homemade. I never really thought about the possibilities of a fish market making their own Caesar but now that I'm aware, I am a big fan and may not be able to have store bought any longer. Secondly, the ahi tuna, perfectly seared, complimented the salad so incredibly well, that I don't think I'll ever go back to chicken. So aside from this incredible salad, the variety of fish and option to order caviar caught my ear so I ordered four ounces of salmon roe that I am anxiously awaiting to hear from. I was desperately looking for sashimi grade fish to accompany the sushi kit I bought for the sister for her birthday (outside of Lawrence fish market) and I stumbled upon Succulent Seafood which I had previously been recommended by a trusted foodie friend for the cooked goods. I have to say these folks were not only helpful but super cool and helpful! According to Jim he can get anything with about a weeks notice. I'll be in to get yellow tail for sushi by request. This should be the hottest seafood joint outside of city limits. Please support this place because we need more of these types of businesses to flourish like fresh salmon against the stream. Obvi, not only is it great to support the local family businesses, but the service is almost always better. And service is excellent here. Prices: hooray! Cheap (shhh, please don't rise them)! I've ordered from here a few times now and had to do a double-take to confirm what I was seeing. Especially because the other options in the strip mall (Trader Joe's, Casey = uber pricey). The food: if you like seafood and especially FRIED seafood, you'll love this place. We've ordered the crab cake sandwich (soft bread, yummy), hush puppies, fried shrimp.. all delicious. Reluctantly, 1 star deducted for two reasons. First of all, it would be nice to see some more options that weren't fried. How about grilled shrimp, grilled salmon? Also, I've ordered the crab cake sandwich twice and it lacked consistency (somehow, the recipe varied or maybe it changed). In general, I'm a solid fan. We just don't order from here too often since there isn't more of a non-fried selection.
