My husband and I were looking for live Maine lobster and came across this place. My husband had sent them a message asking if they had any, and they quickly responded that they did, and with all the necessary info we'd need. We called one day ahead to reserve our order, then day of we headed there for pickup. It's in a nice little strip mall area with plenty of parking. When we first walked in, I noticed it smelled a little like seafood, but like FRESH seafood. Some seafood shops can have a really strong fish smell but this smelled more like the sea than fishy. One thing to note is that it does not appear that they serve hot cooked-to-order food anymore. They no longer had that small kitchen/grill area out front. But they did have a ton of really awesome products! The owner was extremely helpful and grabbed our order from the back, showed us the lobsters, and then packed it up really nicely for us for the drive home, and to keep in the fridge for a few hours until dinner time. We also saw they had live mussels so we grabbed a bag of those too. I also picked up a Better Than Bullion in lobster base, I had never seen that in stores before! We also grabbed some hush puppies from their frozen section. The owner was super excited for us, for our first time cooking fresh lobster, hyped it up and him and the other lady employee were giving us some cooking tips! Everything turned out amazing,, the lobsters were delicious and every mussel was perfectly fresh. Just overall great place and great people! We'll be back, I'm looking forward to grabbing some of their fresh fish next! read more

Very friendly clean and knowledgeable Had the seafood I wanted as well I tried some suggestions of fish, they turned out to taste good, it also let me know they really listen to the type of fish I liked and weren't just trying to sell me any fish. I'm definitely a return customer! read more

Purchased Grouper on the 1st day of Grouper season. This is the freshest, FRESHEST, fish I've ever purchased. No fishy flavor, just pure deliciousness. I've never purchased anything from this place before but I am for sure going back! Also, if they don't have what you want, they can probably get it for you. read more

My dad eats here religiously on Sundays after church and after years trying different things I found my favorite. Grouper with Asiago cheese n linguini. I really cannot put into words how amazingly fresh the fish is. Outstanding prices and they cook for you on sight with fries, pasta or veg. I stopped in and had the grouper and my son had mussels. I mean we tore it UP! Sauce was just perfect! The pics do no justice. These folks have everything you need fresh or frozen. I Love It Here! read more

Really enjoy coming to this quaint seafood shop, and the wonderful staff. The gentleman said he's owned it for several decades, and he had great knowledge of the flavors and was very patient while I asked him questions. Do NOT walk out without grabbing their freshly made crab cakes. Everyone I have had try them have said they're the best they've ever had! We also love their homemade salmon burgers. So glad we stumbled on this hidden gem! read more

Nice Pluto drop by and pickup some great fish dishes. They are not a restaurant but a fish store to buy and cook at home. Usually not too busy and the staff are Soto help to address your needs. Nice and clean store with some display cases and lots of freezer space. read more

Really wanted to like this place. The first few visits were OK, but our most recent purchase, redfish, trout, and sea bass were inedible! Tasted like soap or disinfectant! Also, fresh fish should not smell fishy, but they smelled slightly fishy during cooking. $60 down the drain. We won't give them another try. read more

The food felt like it's been sitting there for days The owner John was grabbing the seafood with dirty hands and selling while his place was under construction. NOT WORTH IT GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. read more

Fantastic wild caught seafood store. We tried the Corbi white fish which was buttery, flaked easily and tasted great. Next day we had the hand made crab cakes. Another winner. We had one each, next time we will get two each. read more

After driving by this place about a million times, I finally stopped in to get some fresh fish. Nice little shop. The service is super friendly, and the variety of fresh and frozen seafood far surpasses what you'd find at a typical grocery store. The first time I went, I bought fresh halibut and crab cakes. The crab cakes were okay, but the halibut was absolutely succulent. I bought king salmon on my most recent trip, and it was also amazing. This place is more expensive than the grocery store, but I suppose that's because of quality and variety. Also, most items in the fresh fridge are not labeled, so I end up having to ask what's what. read more

Pandemic update: been here twice since mask wearing became the thing to do. Two different employees, neither one had a mask on. Neighborhood seafood restaurant is top notch! Friday night my wife and I ordered two crab sandwiches, and they were delicious! Extremely fresh and tasty. It is nice to be able to get a couple of crab sandwiches with fries and slaw hot, fast, delicious and affordable in our area of Naperville. With so many new places opening up, it is nice to have a trusted and convenient place to get a wonderful seafood dish. Succulent Seafood is great! read more

This is the place around town to get crab legs!!!. You will not be disappointed coming here!!

I called and talked to Peggy at Succulent Seafood about helping me with a small seafood appetizer buffet for a party in September. I then went into the store and met with John to prepare two trays of seafood for a party I was hosting. I gave them my own platters to use. No problem using what I gave them. They did an exceptional job at displaying their seafood. The crab claws here a huge hit with my guests. I picked up some fresh fish for dinner when I dropped off the trays and also some large oysters that were flash frozen. Just thaw and it's just like they were shucked right then. I will definitely be using Succulent Seafood for my party needs, not to mention when I want fresh seafood for dinner. read more

I stopped here to get some sushi grade salmon and tuna. This appears to be the closest place to Yorkville that carries sushi grade fish. I brought my toddler with me. We were greeted upon walking in. I didn't realize they had a seafood restaurant built in. I will be back to try that next time. Idk if it was the owner who helped me, but the man was super friendly and helpful. He complimented my selections and also my toddler's selections of olive oils and balsamic vinegars I had to keep putting back because that's parenting in the season of toddlerhood. Prices were very reasonable and because of this and the wonderful customer service, I will definitely be coming back despite the long drive (40m 1-way). read more

If you have not been here yet you NEED to go. The seafood variety is great and the food tastes amazing. I got a linguine and clams, fried calamari, and grouper. Everything was beyond delicious and the service was incredible as well. This place is definitely 5 star worthy. read more

Succulent seafood NOT. I'm not sure if the seafood was from the ocean or dry land. The crab cakes had a weird aftertaste. I was afraid to eat them, sorry to say. read more

We found Succulent Seafood while searching for a needle in a haystack -- shrimp having the lowest possible salt content for a restricted-diet dinner party at our house. The owner was very knowledgeable and immediately knew which shrimp to recommend! I had researched the subject in advance and was thrilled to find that she had the low-salt shrimp in stock, in the large size, recently frozen. (Seafood is freshest if frozen immediately, onboard the ship.) The shrimp turned out to be truly delicious, and the dinner party was a huge success. While at the store, my husband and I ordered the clam pasta and coconut shrimp for lunch. Both were excellent! The french fries were crispy, and the cole slaw was tasty. From the reviews, I knew to expect a super-casual atmosphere, but I was surprised that the food was so good. The store did not smell very fishy, which is a huge accomplishment as I have a very good sense of smell. And, the prices were very reasonable. In the past, I have always picked up whatever seafood they have at Costco. In fact, my husband used Costco shrimp to test recipes in advance of the party. But the shrimp from Succulent Seafood was a LOT better and well worth the longer drive. We definitely will shop there again. read more

Succulent Seafood has the absolute best fresh seafood in the area, not to mention the wonderfully accommodating owner and employees who are very friendly and offer top notch service! Love their Arctic char and King Salmon the best. I notice a few reviews complained about their mask compliance, even one former customer Paula, who according to her reviews stopped going there awhile ago, continues writing new complaints (yet she is no longer a customer?) The nice thing about Succulent Seafood is they have curb side pickup if you are not comfortable going inside. Also, when I wear my mask it protects me if I'm ever concerned. Finally, you have the option to not buy your fish there. But when I'm there, they always have masks on So glad I discovered them and I highly recommend to any seafood lover. read more

I went in to buy fish for sushi at home for the first time since the store was recommended by friends. The store smelled fishier than I would have thought, some level of indication of freshness for me. I've been to multiple fishmarkets that have not smelled as much. I bought 3 kinds - the tuna was OK, but the other two were not great. I'd have been willing to give it a second shot, but the person behind the counter did not wear a mask. I respect that's her choice, but I'm not comfortable and will not go back read more

Shrimp Shacks are a dime a dozen in Chicago. Every neighborhood has one. Once you leave the city limits they become a rarity. The fact that a place like this exists at all in the western suburbs warrants some attention. Naperville just happens to have one. The "Jumbo Shrimp" oxymoron is in full effect because the fried shrimp offered here are"Large" at best! However in a few minutes cooking time, the six count portion is devoured in equal time. "A crave has been satisfied"! The carry-out presentation is visually disheveled. They must have a quota on the frozen matchstick fries...15 to 20 per order and not to exceed 21. Very Stingy! The container of Cole Slaw was MIA while the watery slurry of cocktail sauce...not bad! The lemon wedge sat there looking pretty just waiting to be squeezed. Seafood is a tough business which requires some big "cajones" just to pull it off! I'll give them credit for that and overlook some shortcomings..."just because". read more

Great place to buy seafood! Highly recommend supporting small businesses during a time like this. Love the selection especially the shrimp.

This place is amazing. End of conversation. Seriously though this should be your western suburban GO TO for fresh, beautiful fish! The combination of knowledge and customer service as well as experience is no less than incredible. When you talk to or interact with what I assume is the owner of this blistful small locally owned business, John I think, you will melt faster than the fresh king salmon will in your mouth... I was desperately looking for sashimi grade fish to accompany the sushi kit I bought for the sister for her birthday (outside of Lawrence fish market) and I stumbled upon Succulent Seafood which I had previously been recommended by a trusted foodie friend for the cooked goods. I have to say these folks were not only helpful but super cool and helpful! According to Jim he can get anything with about a weeks notice. I'll be in to get yellow tail for sushi by request. This should be the hottest seafood joint outside of city limits. Please support this place because we need more of these types of businesses to flourish like fresh salmon against the stream. Good, if not great fish, accompanied by superb customer service? Lifetime customer right here. Look we live in the land of corn... 800 miles from the ocean. This may be the only place outside of Chicago that has fresh fish flown in on regular basis. I'll prepare you a nigiri platter if you are disappointed, but I seriously doubt that will happen. read more

I'm so happy I discovered Succulent Seafood. My review is based on his selection of fish, not the kitchen as I've only had them cook for me once. For a fish lover living in the landlocked Midwest fresh fish is not always an easy option to find, especially if you are not a fan of pale, farm raised, previously frozen Atlantic salmon. John always has a great selection of fish on hand. He'll take the time to answer questions about fish you may be unfamiliar with, provides cooking tips and as an added bonus has a little kitchen where he can prepare meals for you in a pinch. Knowing I don't come in every week he even has started freezing and saving cuts of some of my favorite fish that he doesn't get on a regular basis. Some of my favorites that I buy almost every trip are the king salmon, arctic char, red trout, and butter fish when it's available. To be honest, I have yet to buy something I didn't love. If you're looking for a new place to buy your seafood, look no further! Just remember not to over cook it, fish is perfect at 145 degrees, and chewy and rubbery not too much beyond that! read more

I've been coming here for years for seafood but I've never dined off of their menu! I don't know if I'm excited to have experienced such good food, or if I'm upset with myself for not having tried it sooner! I looked over the menu and since I had been having a taste for a Caesar salad, I decided to order that with shrimp BUT my mind was quickly changed when I was told that ahi tuna was an option. First off, the Caesar dressing is homemade. I never really thought about the possibilities of a fish market making their own Caesar but now that I'm aware, I am a big fan and may not be able to have store bought any longer. Secondly, the ahi tuna, perfectly seared, complimented the salad so incredibly well, that I don't think I'll ever go back to chicken. So aside from this incredible salad, the variety of fish and option to order caviar caught my ear so I ordered four ounces of salmon roe that I am anxiously awaiting to hear from. I'm looking forward to my next meal here; the option to bring your own wine to accommodate your fish sounds lovely! read more

Good place for seafood when preparing for an at home feast. I bought a dozen lobster tails for a dinner at home and they were high quality and ordering was easy. Prices weren't too bad-they're cold water lobster tails after all! I've had meals at their grill and it's been decent, but could be better. The staff are very friendly, and I recommend going there when planning on a dinner party at home or buying a good amount of seafood to prepare versus the many subpar grocery stores in/around Naperville (Mariano's can't open soon enough!). read more
