Beneath at least five layers of individually-wrapped paper and about 15 Subway wrappers total, here's my "eat fresh refresh."

The sign on the door said that the store closed at 9pm. When I arrived at 8pm to pick up my online order, the employee, who was listening to sexually-explicit lyrics on a personal speaker, told me that the dine-in hours had just closed. I was also wary that the employee left the chips and drink out of the meal I ordered. When I got home, I was stunned to find my sandwich (if you could call it that) individually wrapped at least five times (each wrapper I peeled off led to another wrapper), plus an outer layer of Subway wrappers that brought the total to at least 15. Were I that employee, I would not have wanted my customer to open the bag in front of me, either. See the photos. You can't make this stuff up. UPDATE: Below is the response from August 12, 2022; this, unfortunately, is the typical "thanks for letting us know" non-response this store gives whenever customers bring concerns of any magnitude to their attention. "I want to take a moment to thank you for contacting me and sharing your feedback regarding your order placed online. I apologize that you had a negative experience with our online process. I appreciate your feedback and can assure you the team that is responsible for this functionality has received this information and will take it into account, as we are always looking to improve the customer experience. Thank you for choosing Subway® restaurants."

I've been to this spot about a dozen times because of its convenient location, but today will be my LAST TIME. First, our meatball sub was WAY over-toasted. My son chose to not have them remake it since the line was getting long. Then upon arriving at our destination, I found that my foot long Italian Herb bread was WAY undercooked and soggy. Shouldn't they realize the bread is not cooked properly? The employees were unsmiling and did not communicate well with each other either. So basically today was the last straw. We'll be driving a little further to the other Subway because we've given this location multiple opportunities to impress us.

    Great location!

Everytime we come in they're understaffed. If you don't mind waiting, which I don't mind, then you'll be fine.

    Retro’s Subs & Brews

    Retro’s Subs & Brews

I was killing time in Chandler when lunch time approached and getting a sandwich was on my brain…read more Thanks to the Yelp app, I was able to find Retro's Subs & Brews and it seemed like the perfect spot to cure my itch. I was super stoked to check a place with "retro" in the name out, and I gotta be honest here, I left with pretty mixed emotions about a lot of things. The restaurant itself is pretty boring inside, mostly just being black with a few small pictures hanging up. I was kind of expecting big retro movie posters or something hanging around, but I definitely didn't get much of a retro vibe from this place minus a small neon "bar" sign and a claw machine in the corner. The menus were very cool, right by the front door its a record shelf and the records were the menus, so thumbs up for that idea. I thought i was mistaken, but I don't remember seeing sandwich prices on the actual menu, but as I look at other photos on yelp it does appear that the sandwiches don't have prices attached to them, which explains why I was thrown off by the end price. I settled on ordering the "take on me" which was black forest ham, roasted turkey, hickory smoked bacon, cheddar cheese, lettuce, and mayo on a Hawaiian style roll. I also ordered a sprite and a chocolate chip cookie as a side. The chocolate chip cookie was okay, pretty standard cookie though definitely not worth $3.75. The sprite was $2.99, and the sandwich came to $15.58. I was also charged $0.96 for something called the advantage program which I have no idea what that is. I gotta say, spending over $25 on a sandwich, a small cookie, and a drink is not something I would care to do at a place like this. The sandwich itself was very good, I won't deny that. The meat tasted fresh, and when it was all together it was definitely a good sandwich, but when there's not combo option and a basic sandwich, cookie, and drink ends up being $25 it's gonna be a no from me on returning in the future. Overall, I really wanted to love this place for the name, but the lack of much decorations and prices left something to be desired. The food itself was good, but not worth what was spent.

At 6:30pm, again, I was greeted by the Asian chain smoker men outside and even coming into the store, you can smell the second hand smoke. I know that these men need a place to find community but gosh can you guys quit smoking already? I feel like the health department could step in here as this would never be allowable in NYC as the second hand smoke is harmful to others. But whatever, its Maricopa County, live and let die or whatever that motto is. I ordered the #1 combo and no mayo. Order came to close to $9, which is more expensive than ones in California! Wow! I can get a banh mi in California for about $7.50. The banh mi is also smaller than the ones I have gotten in California, so they are skimping here and probably making more a profit margin. This is probably my last visit to Lee's in Phoenix. After a close to 10 year relationship, I am breaking up with this place.

I love that they change their menu daily, it's handwritten and the details are posted on their Instagram page if you want to take a look before you arrive. Everything is made fresh to order! The day we had gone in, they had a few sandwich and pasta options available to choose from. My husband got the spicy Italian sausage ziti pasta dish and I ordered the chicken parm sandwich. The sandwich came out first; I really liked the marinara sauce on it. It was a bit difficult to eat but exactly what I was expecting and wanting. The pasta took some time to come out, but that was fine. The sauce was like a pesto vodka sauce, very rich & filling, and also tasty. We were both only able to eat half of each dish since they were both large dishes. I believe they only serve pasta dishes on certain days, so if they have them on the menu, definitely consider ordering one of those. They seem to have sandwiches everyday. It's a pretty small place with a few tables & some bar type seating. It gets pretty busy around lunch time, so plan accordingly. We'll be back again to try other items!

I've had Italian Beef before. I've loved Italian Beef before. But nothing--NOTHING--prepared me for the transcendent, jaw-dropping, flavor-explosion experience that is ordering the Big Beef DIPPED at this Chandler location. If you haven't done it yet, you haven't lived. And if you've had it elsewhere but haven't had it here with their cheese sauce... well, buckle up, because you're about to discover your new favorite thing on the entire planet. From the second you walk into Portillo's on Ray Road, you can smell the magic--crisp sport peppers, rich au jus, and that unmistakable aroma of slow-roasted beef that makes your stomach growl instantly. But the real moment of truth comes when you look that server in the eye and say: "I'll take the Big Beef, DIPPED, LOADED with cheese sauce. And I mean loaded." Watch their face light up--they know. They understand. This is not just a sandwich; it's a ritual, and this location performs it with reverence. Then it arrives. Oh. My. Goodness. The bread is drenched--and I mean perfectly, gloriously drenched--in that deep, savory au jus, so every inch is saturated with rich, beefy flavor. It's not soggy; it's luscious. It's a sponge for joy. And then... the cheese sauce. Sweet, spicy, velvety, liquid gold--it's like someone took pepper jack, dreams, and a touch of heaven and whipped it into a creamy, molten ribbon that cascades over every millimeter of that dipped bread and tender, shreddy beef. The first bite is not just a meal--it's a religious experience. The crunch of the giardiniera, the pop of a sport pepper, the warm, juicy beef, the cheese sauce pulling in golden strands... it's an OMG moment so intense you might actually forget your own name for a second. You'll hear yourself making sounds you didn't know you could make. You might cry a little (happy tears). You might order a second one before you've even finished the first. And here's the thing--the Chandler location executes this with flawless, almost artistic precision. The line moves fast, the staff is smiling, and they don't skimp. They don't hold back on the beef, they don't drizzle the cheese sauce like it's an afterthought--they PILE IT ON with pride. You can tell this team lives for these moments. They're not just serving food; they're delivering pure, unadulterated happiness. Even the atmosphere feels electric--like everyone in the room knows they're about to have their day made. You'll see strangers nodding at each other in mutual respect over their sandwiches. You'll hear "OMG!" echoed across the dining room (seriously). And when you finish that Big Beef Dipped--cheese sauce glistening on every corner, not a drop of au jus left--you'll sit back with a food coma smile so wide it hurts, already plotting your next visit. Bottom line: If you are within 50 miles of 7200 W Ray Rd, you have no excuse. Go. Right now. Order the Big Beef DIPPED with EXTRA cheese sauce. Thank me later. And maybe bring a napkin--because that cheese sauce is so good, you're going to want to lick every last drop off your fingers. Five stars? Try FIVE OUT OF FIVE STARS PLUS A STANDING OVATION! This is the best sandwich I've ever had in my life, and I'm pretty sure it's illegal to be this good.
