Once in a while, you find a restaurant where the food has you repeatedly saying, "Oh my God!" sporadically, and often without your consent. This is one such restaurant. It's not surprising, given its posh location; whatever Harrods does, it rarely disappoints. I won't even mention price, as you should expect high-end quality here, at all times.
It being my birthday weekend, I decided to go for the most expensive dishes I could find- that didn't involve seafood- so here is the rundown to some of the most decadent items on the menu:
Laminated Milk Bread - This is a croissant-style starter served warm, straight from the oven with a creamy dollop of Miso butter with Borage honey. It has a slight sweetness to it and trumps any sourdough slice you'll find anywhere else.
Sweden vs. Japan - This petit little meat dish is made with 2 different types of meat: a smooth, fatty, melt-in-your-mouth grilled wagyu beef, and a hefty and satisfy cut of beef brisket. The name is derived from the chef's Swedish origins and the Japanese fusion most of the dishes here are showcasing.
Given the small portion of my main, I decided to go for the heaviest option they have, which is a delicious Lindonberry Waffle with a fruity mousse in the center, a crispy waffle, and broken meringue pieces to add to that satisfying texture.
As unusual as it is for me to say this, the booze didn't actually steal the show this time; but with gold-flaked cocktails, like the Hartass, and well-balanced coconut old fashioned-style drinks that you can't even hope to pronounce, you have but to pick your poison, and I guarantee you won't be disappointed. A little-known secret Swedish drink they serve here is called the 'Hot Shot,' which is essentially a creamy Espresso Martini in a single shot. I think it's the perfect finisher to your dessert.
If you happen to be in London or are lucky enough to live here, this is definitely somewhere you'll want to try at least once. read more
