Visited The Queens Arms while in the area. Best pub experience! I think you have to get there early if you are coming for dinner or you have to reserve your table. I'm not sure on that, it's just something I thought we caught on to before we left and there started to be RESERVED tents going on the tables. We went and had Scotch Egg, Calamari, Arancini, fish & chips and STICKY TOFFEE PUDDING. Oh. My. Goodness! First the Scotch Egg. I don't want to be a Debbie Downer but it was....ok. It was a little plain. A little tasteless. They could have thrown a few spices into the meat, just a little something. To say that we've made better at home wouldn't be far out. But still good. The calamari was cooked just right. It's what you expect out of a calamari appetizer. Was it the best you'll ever have? Not really. Worth the price? Add it to your appetizer list! The rice balls, which is arancini is, were good. Add a little salt to the top and they were, also, as you'd expect. The fish & chips were exactly as we were hoping when visiting an English Pub for fish & chips. The fish was perfectly cooked, the coating was fabulous, and of course the chips were a perfect compliment to the fish. A great fish & chips experience. The star of the show was the Sticky Toffee Pudding. What a treat! Granted I've nothing to compare it to, this was my first time having it, but whether I've had it before or not THIS was perfection. Perfect texture, the flavour was amazing, the caramel drizzle was perfectly proportioned, and the little bit of ice cream on the side was just perfect. I would go back here simply on this dessert alone. As for the drinks, because, you know, it's a pub....I couldn't say. I don't drink alcohol but my Diet Coke was great! Fresh bottle! ....I suppose I could have gotten a non-alcoholic beer. Wait....did they have non-alcoholic beer there? SOMEONE FIND OUT IF THEY HAVE NON-ALCOHOLIC BEER THERE. The atmosphere was great. We went based on Yelp recommendations and the hotel concierge stating The Queens Arms is a proper pub! it was a short walk from St Ermins Hotel, and perfect for ensuring you get a little exercise before and after! It's a smaller space but the vibe was very cool and energized!! love it!!! We couldn't get a table so we sat and ate at the wall bar. We had a Modelo and Guinness...to start, the Appleby's Cheshire Onion, cheese and potato pie! and Fish n Chips! Both were scrumptious and we cleaned our plates, finished our beverages and went on about our way! What I can say is that is a locally great place, like no one wanted to leave! What a lively place! I thoroughly enjoyed my meal at The Queens Arms. The food was delicious! The fish was perfectly light and crispy. My favorite was the chicken Caesar salad wrap which was super juicy and flavorful. On the menu, it was listed as a light bite but the portion size was large enough to be an entire meal, especially with the side of greens. The cocktails were also very good. However, they were definitely not the strongest drinks I've had, especially at their pretty steep price point. For an early weekday afternoon, there were a TON of people. There was a good mix of locals and tourists, which I think suggests it's a pretty good spot. This meant that service was pretty slow though. Two tables with large parties were seated after us yet served their drinks before our drink order was even taken. The food also took a long time to come out (but totally understandable because it was very busy). Service: We were taken care of warmly and thoughtfully. We arrived and got a table that was too close to the door... when a table opened up, we were promptly moved. Our server was very sweet and helped us have a full English experience. Ambiance: quiet for a pub, but also lively enough. I would go back to be amongst these things that have been around since 1846. What an incredible meal we had here at this restaurant. The server was very friendly and accommodating. I ordered a frozen margarita that was quite lovely. For supper I had the salad with cucumbers, pomegranate seeds and feta cheese. It was refreshing and the perfect size. I stopped by here by myself for a quick dinner on my last night in London. I am so glad I stumbled upon this spot. They prepared some of the best fish n chips I've ever had! The serving was enormous, it was basically two meals. I also ordered the sticky toffee pudding which was excellent. We wanted that London pub experience and found this place. It was super cute and lively when we walked in the main floor. We actually got to sit in the upstairs room which was a nice 7 or 8 table room with good service. He brought us everything and checked up on us frequently. Drinks were great! We had the steak burger and the fish and chips. I thought the chips with the fish and chips were a bit excessive in size. We made a last minute reservation and we were seated by the door. There were two women sitting there but they were asked to leave, I presume bc they just had drinks. I felt bad. The place is a bar setting so it does get a bit loud, which is no big deal. We ordered drinks and then some starters. My husband had the bao bun which he said was very good. My daughter and I had the baked Brie with crostini. It was delicious, just wish it came with more crostinis to be able to eat more of the Brie. For dinner my daughter has just a house salad which she thought was good but a bit heavy on the dressing. My husband and I split the steak sandwich which was flavored nicely but a bit cool. My son had the steak frites which he said were good. We have found it a bit different here in the UK that restaurants don't ask how you want your meat cooked. For dessert my husband had the amazing spiced pudding, and both of the kids ordered the brownie with ice cream. They shared, so I can say first hand it was beyond good! The first meal I wanted in London was fish and chips. I did a Google search for highly rated restaurants by our hotel, and The Queens Arms came up. It was a cute, traditional pub with an upstairs dining area for more seating. I made reservations for 12pm on a Tuesday. The place wasn't too crowded at the time of arrival, but it started picking up shortly after. Service was great. Food came out promptly, and service staff members were friendly and helpful. My fiancé and I both got the cod beer batter fish and chips, which was excellent. The piece of cod was huge, and the crunchiness on that fry was impressive. I oved the chips as well. Thickly cut potatoes that were also nicely crispy on the outside. I would go as far as saying that this is in my top two of best fish and chips plates I've ever had and definitely the best I've had in London. We also shared a side salad that was quite nice and refreshing. The sweetness of the chopped grapes and acidity from the dressing cut through the heaviness of the fish and chips. read more
